World   "Police described the gunman who opened fire at a movie theater in Lafayette, La., Thursday evening as a “drifter” who was staying at a local Motel 6. John Russel Houser, 59, stood up about 20 minutes into a 7:10 p.m. showing of Trainwreck and fired 13 shots from a handgun. He killed two people and injured nine others before turning the gun on himself.
"Authorities searched Houser’s hotel room and found disguises, including glasses and wigs, but would not comment on a possible motive for the killings.
"Houser initially tried to leave the theater through an emergency exit after the shooting, but turned back when he saw police outside. Police found him dead in the theater from a self-inflicted gunshot wound." . . .

The shooting also comes hours after Barack Obama told an interviewer, “[T]he one area that I feel that I’ve been most frustrated and most stymied … is the fact that the United States is the one advanced nation on earth in which we do not have sufficient, common-sense gun safety laws.” But the greatest demonstration of character came from Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal. When asked about gun control, the presidential candidate said, “We’re just learning the details … let’s focus on the victims. Tonight’s not the night to be political.”

"The Academy Awards weren't diverse enough this year for Jesse Jackson.  I always thought that the writers, cast, crew, etc. were picked for their ability to do a good job and earn money for the company producing the film.  I wasn't aware until this year that we should have had quotas, or counted the number of people of each race who participated in the making of a film.  Thanks for that, Jesse.  I'll be sure to count all the people in every film I see from now on to make sure that proper percentages are represented.  Maybe the races and ethnicities of the producers, directors, cast, and crew should be listed in the credits to ensure that we are going to see diverse films.  Films are rated for violence, language, and sexual content.  Maybe we should be working on a diversity score so you would know instantly whether or not the film you were seeing is appropriately diverse.  And now, the Emmys aren't diverse enough, even though the two women nominated for best actress are both black." . . .
