Weasel Zippers " “Teens trained to be messengers to family members.” Covered California spokeswoman Sarah Soto-Taylor said staff have not questioned this goal. She stated, “We have confidence that the model LA Unified brought to the table will be successful in reaching our target population, which includes family members of students.” LA Unified will also use tax-paid staff to promote ObamaCare through phone calls to students’ homes, in-class presentations, and meetings with employees eligible for ObamaCare’s taxpayer-covered healthcare, the grant award says."

Trayvon Martin case: How Rachel Jeantel went from star witness to 'train wreck'

The Christian Science Monitor "To be sure, in the scathing commentary about what some called her puzzling demeanor and alleged lack of education was lost her singular background and her youth: A black and Creole girl growing up in a segregated Miami community, she represented part of the problem of the case – an America so divided, that many can’t “code-switch,” or move between the gauzy racial, cultural, and socioeconomic divides that have become hardened with the nation’s first black president, and which have helped fuel political polarization.

Krauthammer; Nationalized gay marriage, now inevitable

Charles Krauthammer   "Under the Defense of Marriage Act, the federal government does not recognize same-sex marriages even in states that have legalized it. This week, the Supreme Court ruled DOMA unconstitutional.

"There are two possible grounds, distinct and in some ways contradictory, for doing so. The curious thing about the court’s DOMA decision is that it contains both rationales.

"The first is federalism. Marriage is the province of the states. Each state decides who is married and who is not. The federal government may not intrude. It must therefore recognize gay marriage where it has been legalized."....

Paula Deen or Al Sharpton; which one should be ostracized?

Sharpton and MSNBC - perfect for each other  "Sharpton has a long history of racism and anti-Semitism that trails him wherever he goes, though this has been neatly excised by MSNBC, Bill Clinton and others who have found it politically useful to rub elbows with Sharpton. This has been a shameful practice - the likes of Sharpton have done harm not only to fellow African-Americans but to the nation as a whole."

The REAL Al Sharpton: Incitement of the 1991 Crown Heights Pogrom  "Al Sharpton is a user.  He exploits tragedy to get headlines for himself.  It's what he is doing in the Trayvon Martin Case--it's what he has done his entire career.  Though this story has been told before, I thought it appropriate to reexamine some the exploitative handiwork of this Reverend who has long forgotten the golden rule, a purveyor of hatred who  is given a place of honor as a civil rights leader by the mainstream media and by the President of the United States."
The first Sabbath after the Funeral Sharpton tried unsuccessfully to kick up tensions again by marching 400 protesters in front of the Lubavitch of Crown Heights shouting “No Justice, No Peace."

Parodies: Al Sharpton tells Obama he isn't down with the struggle  ;

The Architect of Destruction

Maureen Scott
"Obama comes from a community organizer background where it's us against them. But that's not who we are. And that's not the position the leader of our Nation should take." – Dr. Benjamin Carson

...."Not a day goes by that he is not attempting to defy our laws, remove our rights, over-ride established procedures, install controversial appointees, enact divisive mandates, and assert a dictatorial form of power.
  • Never has there been a leader of this great land who used such tactics to harm and hurt the people and this country.
  • Never have we had a President who spoke with a caustic, evil tongue against the citizenry rather than present himself as a soothing, calming, and trustworthy force.
  • Never, in this country, have we experienced how much stress one man can cause a nation of people – on a daily basis!
"Obama has promoted the degeneration of peace, civility, and quality of cooperation between us. He thrives on tearing us down, rather than building us up. He is the Architect of the decline of America, and the epitome of a Demagogue."  Hat tip to JP Curnutt, Oregon

As long as Paula Deen is in the news, I think Al Sharpton should be as well

If sponsors are leaving Paula Deen, shouldn't they be deserting NBC because of Sharpton?

When Al Sharpton Incited a Massacre at Freddy's Fashion Mart   "Angelina Marrero . . . Cynthia Martinez . . . Luz Ramos . . . Mayra Rentas . . . Olga Garcia . . . Garnette Ramautar . . . Kareem Brunner their names will forever be remembered as the seven victims of the massacre at Freddy's Fashion Mart.  Their deaths can be traced to the racial incitement of one man.. the faux Reverend Al Sharpton."
Complete Transcript of the "Hate Tape" Inflamatory Words that Caused Fire at Freddy's

Yet people continue to kiss Sharpton's ring for absolution of their sins; 2006: Sharpton: Michael Richard's apology not enough. "In an interview with CNN, Rubenstein said one of first pieces of advice he gave to Richards was to call Sharpton.
" "I knew that would be a good place to start," said Rubenstein, who is a longtime friend of Sharpton. "
It is true that Richards' rant was very much beyond the pale. I can think of many African- Americans for whom his words stir much pain and terrible memories that I feel shame for. I would not hesitate to ask their forgiveness, but the thought of groveling before this demagogue is too much to think about.

Don Imus: Why Apologize to Al Sharpton?  "Apologizing to Al Sharpton is more ironic than anything else, when you consider his shining record of slander and racism.  Between the results of the Tawana Brawley incident and his on-record slurs against Jews, he hardly seems to be the go-to guy for the maligned. ....  I wonder if anyone asked for Sharpton’s resignation when he called Jews “diamond merchants” from the pulpit?  Or when he was sued – successfully - for the slanderous remarks he made in the fallout of the Tawana Brawley case?"

We fail to recognize the true harm done to blacks in our past, yet the way so many have shown forgiveness to the source of that pain and truly desired to reconcile with I regard as nothing short of heroic. How sad that their reputations have been besmirched by these demagogues of the left who seek only power and money.
This nation has been torn apart, perhaps beyond healing by the actions of these sharks.

Let's sum Sharpton up with this:  Al Sharpton’s Long Bill of Goods, From Tawana Brawley to Primetime
"As a ‘Times’ documentary revives one of the many ugly incidents from the reverend’s past, it’s time NBC accounted for its decision to rehabilitate and promote him, writes Stuart Stevens."

Slippery Slope of Liberalism Part 8; on Wendy Davis' filibuster in Texas

just a conservative girl   "This is what the left has done with life.  It has been minimized to the point that even complimenting a woman is viewed as an attack.  Yesterday on twitter a young woman who described herself as an “intellectual progressive” compared a baby in the womb to both a tape worm and a parasite.  She has since deleted her account on twitter, but there is plenty of evidence of it still around."

Texas Chaos Illustrates Left's Increasing Reliance on 'Mob Rule'   "It appears from the actions of pro-abortion supporters in Texas on Tuesday night, "mob rule" is now the preferred way the left conducts legislative
business. Gov. Rick Perry has called a special session of the Texas legislature on July 1st for another vote on a bill that will ban abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy and set higher health standards for abortion clinics to be brought forward."

If only Wendy Davis had been born with a silver foot in her mouth  "I made the rare mistake of watching Morning Joe today.
"Wendy Davis was on the show to take a “victory” lap, a word used by Joe Scarborough." She tweeted:
Wendy Davis @WendyDavisTexas
Today, @GovernorPerry shamefully attacked me and my family, further exposing his belief that he knows what's best for Texas women.

You want to see a personal attack, check this one by Ann Richards at the 1988 Democrat Convention:

Wendy Davis: Tough, cool and wrong " Because no matter how many thousands of times abortion rights supporters repeat that the bill’s ban on abortions after 20 weeks is anti-woman — hateful in effect and by design — that’s just the opposite of the way I see it. And it isn’t how a majority of Americans, or American women, see it, either:"....

Obama: Snowden's no big deal; nothing here to get upset about.

Like the wimp at school who just had his lunch money taken and says, "I wasn't going to eat lunch anyway", or maybe the boy getting a spanking who says, "Didn't hurt". This clueless president is afraid of a confrontation with countries who know they can dominate him.
Just bow and be done.
Political Cartoons by Robert Ariail
Obama Calls Snowden '29-Year Old Hacker'  "After the big media extravaganza naming Edward Snowden a traitor, foreign spy, whistleblower, patriot, and hero as well as an enigma, the president, who has remained relatively mum on the affair since the story broke on June 9, has now downgraded Snowden to a non-threat status to U.S. security. Yawn.

"You have to wonder why Obama acted so cavalierly yesterday when discussing the possibility of the "hacker" being extradited from Russia."

How's this for flippant? Obama to Egyptian Christians: Don’t Protest the Brotherhood  ...."What’s worse is that the human rights abuses Egypt’s Coptic Christians have been suffering under Muslim Brotherhood rule are significantly worse than the human rights abuses that the average Egyptian suffered under Mubarak—making the Copts’ right to protest even more legitimate, and, if anything, more worthy of U.S support." As with the Iranian people, but I digress..

About That Leverage We Had Over Ecuador in Snowden Case… Never Mind  "Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said his conversations with world leaders on his travels, particularly in the Middle East, reflect a global belief that “there’s no American leadership, and that’s correct.”
“ 'I think it’s very clear that they believe that President Obama is not a player in the international scene, that President Obama, which has characterized his behavior, does not want to get involved or engaged in international security issues,” he said on Fox this week."
Political Cartoons by Steve Breen

Lets see what liberals are doing in the world lately in this reading list

Bumblebee memorial scheduled for Sunday at Wilsonville Target  "Fifty thousand bumblebees will be honored in a memorial this weekend at the Wilsonville Target where a majority of the insects died. State officials directly linked the die-off to trees that had been sprayed with the insecticide Safari."

How Not to Identify Terrorists  "Welcome to Obamaland!  As a nation now drowning in federal regulation and executive orders, Obama and his ilk have grabbed us by the throat and are gleefully dragging our middle-class butts though the gilded gates of a totalitarian asylum.  Here, truth, freedom, and justice are sacrificed on the politically correct altars of racism and multicultural sensitivity."

If she were an American, she would be an Obama voter: The Face of Cowardice: Theresa May  "British schoolgirls are being systematically gang-raped by Muslims and British soldiers are being hacked to death in the street by Muslims and yet this despicable gutless appeaser, Theresa May, thinks the way to solve the problem is to ban critics of Islam?"  More here.
1940: RAF battles Luftwaffe to save England from totalitarian evil. 2013: England surrrenders to totalitarian evil.
DOMA Ruling: SECDEF Hagel's Unprofessional Pronouncement  "Such unmasked joy crosses the line of supposedly remaining apolitical. He should have simply said, this is the ruling, and here's what we are directed to do by the President as a result of the ruling."

The liberal racists have overused “Uncle Tom.”   "Meet Ryan Patrick Winkler. He’s a 37-year-old liberal Minnesota state legislator .... He’s also a coward, a bigot, a liar, and a textbook example of plantation progressivism."

Senegalese president shoots down Obama’s push for gay rights in Africa  "O tells others how to live. W gave them medicine to keep them alive."

Guess Who’s Welcome in the White House?

Jonathan S. Tobin  [Sheikh Abdullah Bin Bayyah is]" also a leading supporter of Hamas and endorsed Islamist terrorism against U.S. troops in Iraq. If that isn’t enough, he’s also a disciple of radical Egyptian cleric Yusuf Qaradawi, the spiritual leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, who is banned from the U.S. as a result of his repeated calls for the murder of both Jews and Americans."
....
"While the Obama administration has developed an altogether commendable record on killing terrorists in the field, its weakness for some radical clerics and Islamist political parties in the Middle East has compromised its ability to think clearly about Egypt and Turkey. If the likes of Bin Bayyah are welcome in the White House, it’s little wonder the president and his foreign policy team have been unable to put forward a coherent policy on dealing with the problems of the Middle East."

WH Touts Kenyan Program to Obtain National ID Cards for Voter Registration

So we have been demonized and slandered as racists....for nothing?

The Weekly Standard This came from a White House fact sheet:
In advance of Kenya’s March 2013 general elections, Yes Youth Can’s “My ID My Life” campaign helped 500,000 youth obtain National identification cards, a prerequisite to voter registration, and carried out a successful nationwide campaign with Kenyan civic organizations to elicit peace pledges from all presidential aspirants. [emphasis added]
"At an August 2012 press briefing, Jay Carney had the following to say about a Texas voter ID law:

And on the voter ID case, I can tell you that, as you know, this administration believes it should be easier for eligible citizens to vote -- to register and vote. We should not be imposing unnecessary obstacles or barriers to voter participation.

Was Paula Deen Set Up?

filipspagnoli
Jim Clayton  "When Matt Lauer interviewed her he was a bit too rough on her I thought. As she said and I’m paraphrasing, ”Those who are without sin cast the first stone.” She also said “who hasn’t said something they later regretted?” She also told Matt that she has chastised young people who work for her for using that kind of language in the work place. Besides 30 years ago using that word was common in children’s games when selecting who would be ”it.” Black people call each other that all the time and you hear it on rap records constantly without complaint from the media. Travon Martin referred to George Zimmerman as that in his call to his girlfriend who is now testifying. If we’re going to go down that route where were all the feminists calling for Bill Mahr’s resignation and sponsors pulling out of his show when he called Sarah Palin the ’T’ word and ‘C’ word on his show?"

The Battle of Vicksburg, Mississippi, was the culmination of a two year effort  by Union armies and navies to wrest control of the Mississippi River from Confederate forces.

USS Cairo; sunken and restored "Over the years the gunboat was soon forgotten and her watery grave was slowly covered by a shroud of silt and sand. Impacted in mud, Cairo became a time capsule in which her priceless artifacts were preserved. Her whereabouts became a matter of speculation as members of the crew had died and local residents were unsure of the location."

Cedar Grove Mansion Inn and Restaurant We stayed here a number of years ago and were surrounded by history. The original front door has a repaired hole where a cannon ball from a Union gunboat went through it. In the wall of the parlor a cannonball is still embedded after a century and a half. Shame on Target and Wal Mart.

Paula Deen fans lash out against Wal-Mart

"Return all of their items and ask for refunds if they cant support Paula Deen!" read the first comment on Wal-Mart's Facebook page.
"I think it is absolutely terrible what you have done to Paula Deen," a commenter said on the Facebook page of Caesars Palace Casino.
"That chicken looks a little racist. Maybe it shouldn't be on that salad," wrote a commenter on a Food Network Facebook post about its Buffalo Chicken Salad recipe of the day.

If you care to register an opinion to these companies, here is a tip:

"Despite the outpouring of support for Deen, social media marketing consultants note that Facebook (FB) comments typically don't impact brands on their own. Negative reactions on Twitter, on the other hand, can actually do some serious damage."  Emphasis added.

How to join Twitter. In case you want to comment for or against Paula Deen among other things.

Paula Deen Fans Flock to Her Cruise to Show Support   "Where other Paula Deen sponsors are dropping like flies, a small travel agency in New Jersey that handles booking for the "Paula Deen Cruise" continues to stand by the embattled former Food Network personality amid popular demand."

Martha Stewart: 'I Feel Sorry For Paula Deen'  "Paula Deen might be in the midst of a professional spiral - following her admission of using the N-word in the past - but she does have the support of a fellow TV lifestyle personality, one who knows her fair share about public scrutiny."

Talk about demagoguery and distortion, see the cartoons

While Caesars, the Food Network and Smithfield Foods have dropped her, at least nine companies are voicing their support for Paula Deen.
"Deen's camp earlier Wednesday sent out two releases with letters of support from some nine different partners with whom Deen does business." They are:
  • Tasty Blends Foods of Frasiers Bottom, W.Va.
  • Landies Candies in Buffalo, N.Y
  • Springer Mountain Farms
  • Sandridge Food Co. in Medina, Ohio
  • 450ID, a graphic design company in Philadelphia
  • Harvest NA
  • IQ Craft
  • Epicurean Butter
  • Club Marketing Services

Sue and Settle: How the EPA Removes Power from States and Hands It to Environmental Groups

FreedomWorks   "In a report released Tuesday, the American Legislative Exchange Coucil (ALEC) sounded the alarm on the unchecked power grab by the federal government via the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) since the beginning of President Obama's first term in 2009.
"The report reviews the EPA’s unprecedented regulatory expansion that severely curtails state sovereignty by replacing input from the states with environmental groups. This transfer of power seems like something out of Atlas Shrugged, and is accomplished by a method known as Sue and Settle. The effect of Sue and Settle is to limit input from local elected officials and allow radical environmentalists to set policy at the expense of local residents, local budgets and local control."

Disruptive Crowd at Texas Senate Session Sets Terrible Precedent

Political Cartoons by Eric Allie
National Review Online   ...."One can only imagine the outrage if an unruly mob of pro-life activists — egged on by pro-life leaders — succeeded in blocking a pro-abortion bill by shouting down the legislature.
"Regardless of one’s views on abortion, last night’s actions set a terrible precedent. Allowing an unruly crowd to effectively block a vote on a piece of legislation will only serve to encourage disruptive activity in the future. That having been said, pro-lifers should not give up hope. There is speculation that Governor Perry might call another special session of the legislature to reconsider this piece of legislation."

Liberal State Bar Spends Three Years Going After Lawyer For Being Conservative Blogger

Intellectual Conservative  "The liberal Arizona State Bar has spent over three years going after the editor of this website, Rachel Alexander, over her conservative political blogging, attempting to suspend her license to practice law. At one point, they broadly demanded to know everything she had ever blogged over the past five years, an obvious fishing expedition. This should be chilling to every blogger out there."

If Paula Deen Is Out, Please Explain Maher and Sharpton

RealClearPolitics   "If celebrity cook Paula Deen is out because of her decades-old private use of the "n" word, what about its public AND private use by MSNBC's Al Sharpton? What about HBO host Bill Maher's use of the "c" word?"
....
"Sharpton, of course, rocketed to fame by falsely accusing two white men of raping and sodomizing black teenager Tawana Brawley. A New York grand jury investigation concluded that the whole case was fraudulent and that Brawley flat-out lied to avoid punishment for staying out too late. To this day, Sharpton refuses to apologize to former Assistant District Attorney Steven Pagones, one of the men Sharpton accused of rape, even after a jury found Sharpton liable for defamation."
Much more on Sharpton here. You should really know what Democrats are like today and he is one example.  And remember Al Sharpton= MSNBC
....
"Maher, on more than one occasion, publicly called former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin the "c" word.
He has called her a "dumb tw-t" -- a derisive slang word for female genitalia. He has described her son Trig, who has Down syndrome, as "retarded."

"Four families of Navy SEAL Team 6 and special ops forces will be filing a  suit in Washington, D.C federal court today over the death of their sons, whose helicopter was shot down by the Taliban on August 6, 2011 in Afghanistan. The Good and Bad of Obama’s Counterterrorism Strategy

Chappatte cartoon 3-5-13
The Foreign Policy Initiative  "In late May, President Obama gave a high-profile speech to announce his new strategy for countering terrorist threats to the United States and its allies. While certain parts of Obama's new counterterrorism strategy represent a step forward, other aspects alarmingly suggest a step backwards to pre-9/11 thinking."
The Foreign Policy Initiative seeks to promote an active U.S. foreign policy committed to robust support for democratic allies, human rights, a strong American military equipped to meet the challenges of the 21st century, and strengthening America’s global economic competitiveness.

Points of view on the DOMA decision today

DOMA/Prop 8: States Win, People Lose  "The Supreme Court's rulings Wednesday on the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and Proposition 8 are being viewed as a limited victory for advocates of same-sex marriage--and also for federalism. The Court's decision to strike down DOMA means that a federal definition of marriage cannot trump a state definition, and that same-sex marriages in some states will be honored by others. Its decision to refuse to rule on Prop 8 means that lower court rulings against it will stand, effectively legalizing same-sex marriage in California."

Scalia's Blistering Dissent on DOMA  "In a ripping dissent, Scalia says that Justice Anthony Kennedy and his colleagues in the majority have resorted to calling opponents of gay marriage "enemies of the human race." "

NRO: More Than Marriage Is at Stake Now  "The Proposition 8 ruling is the most disturbing. Though the Court chose not to rule on the merits, it did establish a terrible precedent, ruling that citizens who pass an initiative do not have the legal right or standing to defend that law when elected officials refuse to do their job and defend the duly enacted law in court."

Justice Scalia on the DOMA decision.  "In a blistering rebuke of the Supreme Court decision to overturn the Defense of Marriage Act, Justice Antonin Scalia said the self-governing power of the people has been eroded."

Volokh Conspiracy; Federalism Marries Liberty in the DOMA Decision   "For now, federalism wins out in theory as well as in practice.  States are free to define marriage as they wish (subject to Equal Protection and Due Process clause restraints), and the fight over “gay marriage” will continue in the states for years, as other litigation winds its way back to the Court.  So far, this process of federalism has been beneficial to the cause of same-sex marriage in a number of respects, not least of which is the perceived legitimacy of same-sex marriage in states where it has been adopted by legislation or popular initiative.  But whether this bodes good or ill for same-sex marriage, it is a visible demonstration that federalism need not be just for conservatives.

Left Coast Rebel: SCOTUS Rules Favorably on DOMA, Not Going Far Enough the Justices Tossed it Back To the States...  " Unfortunately the "... several congressional Republicans — including Ohio Sen. Rob Portman — have endorsed same-sex marriage" are in the decided minority. Therein lies one the reason the republican party is rapidly losing much of the nation to the Libertarian Party and the Democratic Party."
Gay marriage unlikely to be a focus of 2014 elections   "After the Supreme Court Wednesday struck down the Defense of Marriage Act and cleared the way for gay marriages to resume in California, GOP strategists said same-sex marriage will have a bit part in the midterms. Obamacare and the size of government will be a much keener focus."

Obama Renews His War On Coal  "Don’t say he didn’t warn us: “Go ahead and build a coal-powered plant — but it will bankrupt you.” Today President Obama put those words into action. With poverty and unemployment at record levels and his foreign policy in tatters, Obama decided to address a more important problem: Americans aren’t paying enough for electricity! So he mounted a new attack on coal, America’s principal source of power."
Obama Announces Plan to Save the Earth from a Problem That Doesn’t Exist

; Obama wants action on climate change in the worst way — and that’s what the US is getting  " Listening to President Obama’s big climate-change policy speech, one would never realize that climate-change science has been going through a rough patch. Climatologists are befuddled."
