Mutiny in Scrutiny?

NRO "The House bill has passed — barely and belatedly — and it is now dead. Nothing like it will ever pass the Senate. The question now is whether anything will, now that the voters have spoken in New Jersey and Virginia — and now that the exceedingly narrow margin in the House will likely invite even greater scrutiny of that which is being proposed. Greater scrutiny will not help the Democrats' efforts."

The Pelosi Health Care Plan: Employer Mandate Penalties on Small Businesses

Heritage "This legislation would create an employer penalty system that would apply to small firms--even those with 25 or fewer workers. Businesses expanding total annual payroll to $500,000 would face a $10,000 marginal penalty; this penalty rises to $19,200 for small firms expanding total wages to $750,000. This additional cost would create a strong disincentive for small firms to increase compensation or hire additional employees." More change.

Washington 'Shall' Control Your Healthcare

RealClearPolitics "...as you flip through the pages of the House bill, you will notice the word "regulation" appears 181 times. "Tax" is there 214 times. "Fees," 103 times. As we all know, nothing says "affordability" like higher taxes and fees. The word "shall" - as in "must" or "required to" - appears over 3,000 times. The word, alas, is never preceded by the patriotic phrase "mind our own freaking business." Not once."

Sweeping Health Care Plan Passes House

NY Times "Only one Republican, Representative Anh Cao of Louisiana, voted for the bill, and 39 Democrats opposed it. The House also defeated the Republicans’ more modest plan, whose authors said it was a more common-sense and fiscally responsible approach." H/t to Lucianne.

The left and terror

By J.R. Dunn h/t to Lucianne "The third step is to target them, isolate them and render them harmless. The question is how we go about it. The left itself may well have put the weapon in our hands."...."Van Jones should act as our model. A few years ago, it wouldn't have mattered that Jones was associated with a nut cult like the Truthers. Now everything matters, and everything goes under the microscope. Jones was a critical figure to the administration, one for whom they were willing to put their reputations on the line to save. It made no difference. Once exposed, and hammered, and spotlighted, he was shown the door and wished luck with his further endeavors. For this outcome, he has no one to thank but his own comrades on the left. "

Obama’s “Middle Option” in Afghanistan

Max Boot "If the Times article is accurate, the White House has arbitrarily made McChrystal’s request the high-end estimate and added a third option that’s higher than his low-end request but lower than his middle option. Presumably this is so that Obama can tell his liberal base that he didn’t just “cave” in to what the generals wanted, though why the president should be afraid of “rubber-stamping” a request from his handpicked commander in the field isn’t clear."

Graham: House Bill "D.O.A." in the Senate

CBS News "Graham argued that the House bill was "written for liberals, by liberals. "Just look at how it passed; it passed 220 to 215. It passed by two votes. You had [39] Democrats vote against the bill," " Hope for the best; expect the worst.

Hasan attended same mosque as two 9/11 hijackers

Thomas Lifson "The preacher at the time was Anwar al-Awlaki, an American-born Yemeni scholar who was banned from addressing a meeting in London by video link in August because he is accused of supporting attacks on British troops and backing terrorist organisations. Hasan's eyes "lit up" when he mentioned his deep respect for al-Awlaki's teachings, according to a fellow Muslim officer at the Fort Hood base in Texas, the scene of Thursday's horrific shooting spree." Update "His failed search for a wife seemed to haunt Hasan. At the Muslim Community Centre in the Washington suburb of Silver Spring, he signed up for an Islamic matchmaking service, specifying that he wanted a bride who wore the hijab and prayed five times a day."

How Now Blue Cao?

American Thinker Michelle Malkin wrote: "For what it is worth, here is the cheap price the Democrats paid for Cao's vote:..."...."He obtained a "commitment from President Obama." You know what that's worth: Nothing."

Napolitano's terrorist radar screen

American Thinker "It seems that Major Hasan's behavior raised no official eyebrows despite his outspoken views and possible links to radical extremism. In a world of political correctness and irrational fear of even the appearance of profiling, did concern for not offending Hasan's Muslim faith trump the numerous red flags that are littered in his deadly wake? Despite subsequent apologies and denials to the contrary, The Dept of Homeland Security led by Janet Napolitano profiled conservative Americans as potential domestic terrorists:"

Bloodless President Barack Obama makes Americans wistful for George W Bush

UK Telegraph "In a sign that the Obama honeymoon truly is over, I began to hear this week the first stirrings of a wistfulness about Mr Bush. "I never thought I'd hear myself say it," one Democrat told me. "But Obama makes you feel that at least with Bush you knew where he was on something.""...."Completely missing was the eloquence that Mr Obama employs when talking about himself. Absent too was any sense that the President empathised with the families and comrades of those murdered. "

House narrowly passes landmark health care bill

MyWay News "The bill drew the votes of 219 Democrats and Rep. Joseph Cao, a first-term Republican who holds an overwhelmingly Democratic seat in New Orleans. Opposed were 176 Republicans and 39 Democrats." Who is Joseph Cao? "Cao's district voted 75%-23% for Barack Obama in 2008..."
