Before the Tea Party: the Magna Carta

American Thinker  "Mrs. Thatcher did not disappoint. What did she think of the French Revolution? "It resulted in a lot of headless bodies and a tyrant," she said. But, but, the speechless reporters countered, don't you think the French Revolution marked the beginning of human rights? "Certainly not," Maggie answered with steely determination, "that began with Magna Carta." "   Robert Morrison

More on the Magna Carta "When representatives of the young republic of the United States gathered to draft a constitution, they turned to the legal system they knew and admired--English common law as evolved from Magna Carta . "

What Obama Should Say Tuesday Night

Mona Charen "There is nothing immoral about companies that extract the coal, oil, and gas from the earth -- no more than those of us who enjoy air conditioning, computers, cars, and airplanes are immoral for using those fuels. Perhaps we've all learned now that we must take another look at ANWR and shallower waters. Environmentalists did us no favors by agitating for bans on drilling in more accessible sites. At least if a spill happens there, it can be dealt with."  In our dreams.

Energy Demagogues   "...trucks and cars don't run on sunlight or wind, and coal -- whose cost of generation the U.S. energy department priced at 44 cents per megawatt three years ago -- is our second cheapest form of energy, next to oil and gas, at 25 cents per megawatt. Nuclear power is $1.59.

"And how much, according to the energy department, is wind power? Oh, $23.37 per megawatt. Solar power? A whopping $24.34."  Bill Murchison is a senior columns writer for The Dallas Morning News.
  Emphases added.

Obama in the Bunker  "In politics, a "bunker mentality" is an embattled frame of mind, often accompanied by an aggrieved sense of being unfairly under attack. The term is most often applied to American Presidents who suffer political reverses and assume a surly, defensive posture - all critics are enemies; if you're not for us you're against us; etc."  Rich Galen has been a press secretary to Dan Quayle and Newt Gingrich.

The Obama Energy Tax Game Plan

Heritage "Politico reports that Benenson’s recommended “messaging architecture" includes the slogan “Making BP Pay Isn’t Enough” and adds: “frame the opposition” as “Big Oil and corporate polluters who have blocked energy reform for decades” and “politicians protecting the special interests that fund their campaigns.”
"The irony here is that BP has been a special interest pushing for carbon pricing on Capitol Hill for years now."

America Truly is the Greatest Country in the World. Don't Let Freedom Slip Away

Kitty Werthmann    "We had been told that [Nazi Germany] didn't have unemployment or crime, and they had a high standard of living. Nothing was ever said about persecution of any group -- Jewish or otherwise. We were led to believe that everyone was happy. We wanted the same way of life in Austria . We were promised that a vote for Hitler would mean the end of unemployment and help for the family. Hitler also said that businesses would be assisted, and farmers would get their farms back. Ninety-eight percent of the population voted to annex Austria to Germany and have Hitler for our ruler.
"We were overjoyed, and for three days we danced in the streets and had candlelight parades. The new government opened up big field kitchens and everyone was fed.
"After the election, German officials were appointed, and like a miracle, we suddenly had law and order. Three or four weeks later, everyone was employed. The government made sure that a lot of work was created through the Public Work Service. "  Kitty Werthmann is an 84-year-old native Austrian survivor of the Third Reich.
My point is not to liken Democrats to Nazis; It is, rather, that bad choices can made by voters even with the Electoral College as a safeguard.

"66% of US voters are angry at the state-run media "

Gateway Pundit "66% of US voters are angry at the state-run media and 48% understand that the teabag-hating media is out to support Obama’s radical leftist agenda."

Obama's 9/11 envy

John Podhoretz  "By comparing an unwanted disaster to a conscious act of war, Obama is adding an improper moral dimension to the effort to clean up the Gulf -- a moral reckoning that will make it harder rather than easier to focus on the task of actually plugging the damn hole.
"By likening the murder of 3,000 people and the efforts to take out the US government to a series of mistakes that added up to a catastrophe, Obama has defined evil down in a fashion that does immense violence to good sense, good taste and good leadership."

Obama’s Destruction Of Capitalism (UPDATED)

CanadaFreePress "Obama’s administration is rapidly replacing capitalism, markets and free enterprise with socialism and total government control. In Marxist theory socialism is a stage on the way to the overthrow of capitalism and establishment of communism. It’s doing this by finding examples of capitalist ‘failures’ and using them to justify government regulation and takeover."

Obama's Assaults on Liberty Proceed Unabated     "There is no excuse -- none -- for any existing or prospective congressman to fail to comprehend the magnitude of the revolution that is now occurring inside our government. Any candidate who downplays or whitewashes the gravity of the ongoing assaults against our liberties must be defeated. Any congressman who suggests we can just tinker around at the edges of Obamacare and strip away its most noxious provisions -- as opposed to "repeal and replace" -- must be defeated." David Limbaugh

Students Turn On ... Anti-War Teachers – Want Them Fired

Gateway Pundit "Verani is a history teacher? …Can you imagine the anti-American filth she must be flinging at the children in her classroom?" Ask her if she was taught from  Howard Zinn's textbook when she was a student.

Obama from the Oval

Political Wire "Presidents should use the Oval Office selectively. It has the weight and bearing of the Pope giving a special Mass at the Vatican. It's not the place to announce volunteerism awards. It's not a place for updates. It's a place to announce serious plans."

Dems look to use oil spill in push for carbon caps

Washington Examiner "The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has breathed new life into legislation aimed at putting limits on carbon emissions, with President Obama expected to push Congress to pass a bill that addresses both energy and global warming in a national address."
Fla. Republicans ask Obama to waive Jones Act    "The federal maritime administrator in emergencies can waive the Jones Act that bars foreign ships from carrying cargo and passengers between U.S. ports. "
Brazil To Profit From Obama Drilling Ban  Not only is capital being directed away from the Gulf – at least any American operations – but the rigs and other equipment are going to migrate elsewhere — for years. So, by all means, invest in Brazil. Mr. Obama and his master Mr. Soros thank you.
THE OIL SPILL: THE CRISIS THAT WILL NOT GO TO WASTE "Sorry .. there is no way the federal government, especially a federal government being run by an anti-capitalist incompetent like Barack Obama, should be allowed to order a bunch of people out of their workplaces on the one hand, and then demand that some other private entity cover their salaries while they're not working. This is something that, if it is going to happen at all, happens through legal action."

Beware the lame ducks

The Daily Caller "This year it’s the Democrats who may stuff major controversies into a post-election free-for-all, but Feingold’s principle holds true: Politicians who won’t face the voters ever again–or not for at least two years–have less accountability, especially when they know it’s their last chance before a major power shift."
