Foreign Policy: From Bad to None; Our enemies are gloating, and our allies are grimly deciding where to go from here.

Victor Davis Hanson   " Barack Obama had a foreign policy for about five years, and now he has none.

"The first-term foreign policy’s assumptions went something like this. Obama was to assure the world that he was not George W. Bush. Whatever the latter was for, Obama was mostly against. ...

"If Bush wanted garrison troops left in Iraq to secure the victory of the surge, Obama would pull them out. If Bush had opened Guantanamo, used drones, relied on renditions, reestablished military tribunals, and approved preventive detention, Obama would profess to dismantle that war on terror — even to the point where the Bush-era use of the word “terrorism” and any associations between it and radical Islam would disappear.

"If Bush had contemplated establishing an anti-missile system in concert with the Poles and Czechs, then it must have been unwise and unnecessary. If Bush had unabashedly supported Israel and become estranged from Turkey, Obama would predictably reverse both courses..."  More...

Doctors And AMA Split Over Contentious Issue Of ObamaCare

It seems that just as the teacher's unions do not seem to have the education and welfare of our children at heart, neither does it appear that the AMA looks out for our doctors. Never assume because the AMA endorses a program that it helps patients or doctors.
Our own family physician has been burdened with much more paperwork, even having to hire an extra person just to put government-required patient information into a computer.
She has told us that after all patients have been seen for the day, she continues to do paperwork at home until bedtime. She admitted that her family life has suffered.  I can attest to that, having just recently received an email from her explaining results of some tests she had ordered for me.
The email came to me at 11:30 pm.  The Tunnel Dweller.
Forbes  "For more than 160 years, the American Medical Association has served as the self-appointed chief lobbying group for doctors. But the AMA’s lofty status has been under threat over the last several years — and is under attack today. In fact, the AMA now only counts about 17% of doctors as members.
" According to a new survey, the majority of doctors do not believe that the AMA represents their views and interests. Much of that dissatisfaction stems from the organization’s support for President Obama’s contentious health care reform package.
"That shouldn’t be surprising. The AMA declares that its core mission is to “help doctors help patients.” But ObamaCare undermines that pursuit by making life harder for physicians and driving down the quality of care available to patients."  More here.   Emphasis mine, TD

The Radical Left’s High-Stakes Gamble on Intolerance

American Center for Law and Justice  "Not for the first time, the radical Left is moving rapidly away from any respect for free speech and pluralism and is decisively throwing itself into creating a self-righteous culture of intolerance and intimidation. It’s playing a dangerous game, one that is already alienating its own allies.

Bullies: How the Left's Culture of Fear and Intimidation Silences Americans     ... "The left has created a climate of fear wherein ordinary Americans must abandon their principles, back abhorrent causes, and remain silent. They believe America is a force for evil, that our military is composed of war criminals, and that patriotism is the deepest form of treason. They incite riots and threaten violence by playing the race card, then claim they’re advocates for tolerance. Disagree with Obama? You must be a racist. They send out union thugs and Occupy Wall Street anarchists to destroy businesses and redistribute the wealth of earners and job creators. No target is off limits as liberal feminists declare war against stay-at-home moms, and gay activists out their enemies, destroy careers, and desecrate personal privacy."

Here is where leftist intolerance can lead you: Churchill Quotation Gets Liberty GB Leader Paul Weston Arrested

"At around 2pm Mr Weston was standing on the steps of Winchester Guildhall, addressing the passers-by in the street with a megaphone. He quoted the following excerpt about Islam from the book The River War by Winston Churchill:"

"How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many countries. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property – either as a child, a wife, or a concubine – must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men. Thousands become the brave and loyal soldiers of the faith: all know how to die but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith."

"Reportedly a woman came out of the Guildhall and asked Mr Weston if he had the authorisation to make this speech. When he answered that he didn’t, she told him “It’s disgusting!” and then called the police."...  Via Brenner Brief

"Charles Krauthammer is calling newly released emails “a smoking document” that the conservative columnist says shows the White House was involved in a coverup of the Benghazi attacks.

"Appearing on Fox News on Tuesday evening, Krauthammer said the email shows that the Obama administration fabricated its contention that the 2012 attacks in Benghazi, Libya, were a reaction to a YouTube video because the revelation of a terrorist attack would have been politically costly to the president’s reelection campaign."

Health Care Spending Soars 9.9% On ObamaCare In Q1    "This isn't what President Obama and other Affordable Care Act supporters have said would happen. They've argued that the law would rein in medical costs, even while providing massive subsidies to expand coverage to millions of people. The White House had touted recent data showing slowing health care costs, though that trend preceded ObamaCare and was global. The GDP report offers the clearest evidence yet that, at least in the short term, ObamaCare is having a big impact on spending."  More

National popular vote bill could give Democrats permanent control of White House

Brenner Brief  "Democrats have quietly been working on a way to usurp the Constitution and subvert presidential elections forever. In the interest of being fair and balanced however, many misguided Republicans have signed on to this also. It’s called the National Popular Vote Bill and it could well give Democrats permanent control of the White House." ...

... "That is music to the Democratic Party’s ears. If Democrats can get this bill passed in enough states to reliably grant them the magic 270 Electoral College votes, they will wrap up the White House for decades to come. The heavily populated areas and big cities are right in the Democrats’ wheelhouse, and the blue states contain the majority of those areas. Imagine if all presidential campaigns were waged entirely in big cities and rural America was ignored. It would become a Santa Claus contest where each candidate must promise more goodies than the other to win and no matter who won that contest, America would lose."   More...

Look at this night photo of the US. Judicial Watch: Benghazi Documents Point to White House on Misleading Talking Points

The Right Planet   "Emails obtained by Judicial Watch ...have revealed that the top priority after the Benghazi terrorist attack was not national security ...No, the priority of top advisors in the earliest days after the Benghazi attack was ensuring that President Obama “looked good” prior the 2012 election.
Judicial Watch   "(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch announced today that on April 18, 2014, it obtained 41 new Benghazi-related State Department documents. They include a newly declassified email showing then-White House Deputy Strategic Communications Adviser Ben Rhodes and other Obama administration public relations officials attempting to orchestrate a campaign to “reinforce” President Obama and to portray the Benghazi consulate terrorist attack as being “rooted in an Internet video, and not a failure of policy.”  Other documents show that State Department officials initially described the incident as an “attack” and a possible kidnap attempt.

"The documents were released Friday as result of a ... Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit filed against the Department of State ... to gain access to documents about the controversial talking points used by then-UN Ambassador Susan Rice ... Judicial Watch had been seeking these documents since October 18, 2012.

Ben Rhodes at center of plan to whitewash White House on Benghazi   ... "For years I have wondered why Rhodes had achieved such influence with Obama-given a clear lack of qualification to serve any role in the upper reaches of government. Now we know it is not sycophancy alone that worked for him. Nor is it just the fact that his brother heads CBS News (which recently parted company with Sharyl Attkisson following her persistent investigative reporting on Benghazi).  It goes beyond those factors: he will do his boss’s bidding, hiding information, manipulating the facts, distract people: the truth and the American people be damned.

The 'Don't Worry, Be Happy' President

Ed Lasky  ... "Very few of our presidents have ever been truly prepared to handle the rigors of the presidency, but most of them have risen to the challenge. The time period for Obama to do so expired long ago. His leadership has been consistently and willfully obtuse and oblivious to the duties and responsibilities of the presidency.

"He has routinely dismissed massive problems and threats to Americans as being trivial -- beneath his God-like goal to halt the rise of the oceans. Instead, he has portrayed his stewardship as being exemplary -- one of the top four presidencies in history -- and conveyed in various ways we should not worry and be happy, if not be thankful to have him."

... "Come to think of it, why shouldn’t Barack Obama be happy? He has succeeded in his goal of fundamentally transforming America. And the rest of America will be left cleaning up the mess from his party."

A Doctor's Declaration of Independence: It's time to defy health-care mandates issued by bureaucrats not in the healing profession.

Wall Street Journal   "In my 23 years as a practicing physician, I've learned that the only thing that matters is the doctor-patient relationship. How we interact and treat our patients is the practice of medicine. The Week Ahead in Regulation: April 28 to May 2

American Action Forum  "There is plenty afoot on the regulatory scene heading into this week. Congress is back in session after a two-week recess. More notably, there are a few significant regulations scheduled for publication."
...
Today, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) published its final Tier 3 fuel standards rule. At nearly $14.5 billion in total costs, it is the most expensive rule to date in 2014. AAF reviewed its implications here.
  • Tomorrow, the Department of Energy will formally publish a proposal for new energy efficiency standards in fluorescent lamps and incandescent reflector lamps. The total regulatory cost of the rulemaking approaches $13 billion.

  • On Thursday, the Mine Safety and Health Administration will publish a rule seeking to limit exposure to coal dust. Although annualized costs are somewhat modest, at $28.1 million, the rule itself is massive. The pre-publication version is nearly 1,000 pages.
When A Major Regulation Isn’t Major, Or Is it?   "For more than three years, the American Action Forum (AAF) has been tracking every federal rulemaking, no matter how trivial. In that time, AAF has developed a searchable database with more than 4,000 notable federal regulations, with information on costs, benefits, and paperwork hours.

"Just as finding regulations and supporting documents can sometimes be difficult, determining whether a rulemaking is “economically significant” or “major” is not always straightforward. We at the American Action Forum have experienced this first hand."

Decoding Common Core Math. A more penetrating look

    Perceived as this:

Accuracy In Academia   "If the Common Core education reforms introduced by President Obama and supported by big-name Republicans were subject to peer review, they might become a “whatever became of?” question.
“Take, for example, my first-grade son’s Common Core math lesson in basic subtraction,” David G. Bonagura, Jr., writes in an article which appeared in The Education Reporter. “Six- and seven-year-olds do not yet possess the ability to think abstractly; their mathematics instruction, therefore, must employ concrete methodologies, explanations, and examples.”
“But rather than, say, count on a number line or use objects, Common Core’s standards mandate teaching first-graders to ‘decompose’ two-digit numbers in an effort to emphasize the concept of place value. Thus 13 – 4 is warped into 13 – 3 = 10 – 1 = 9. Decomposition is a useful skill for older children, but my first-grade son has no clue what it is about or how to do it. He can, however, memorize the answer to 13 – 4. But Common Core does not advocate that tried-and-true technique.”
"The Education Reporter is published by the Eagle Forum, an organization founded by conservative attorney, author and activist Phyllis Schlafly. Bonangura’s article was reprinted by permission from National Review, in which it originally appeared."

Obama’s Staggering Record of Failure  ... "By now, nearly five and a half years into the Obama presidency, objective people can draw reasonable conclusions, among which are these: Barack Obama was among the least prepared men to ever serve as presidency. It shows. He has been overmatched by events right from the start. He is an excellent campaigner but unusually inept when it comes to governing.

"By temperament and experience, based on skill set and ability, Mr. Obama is much better equipped to be a community organizer than to be president of the United States."

Obama’s Approach to Foreign Policy; He either doesn’t care about it, or he’s afraid of it.    " I think we all know what Barack Obama’s foreign-policy strategy coming into office was.

Step 1: Be Barack Obama (and not George W. Bush).

    Step 2: ????

    Step 3: World peace!
    ...

"He issued a red line in Syria until his bluff was called. He’s let our ally, the Philippines, fend for itself as China tries to annex Scarborough Shoal. He’s made it clear to the Iranians that he considers talking its own reward, since that will likely kick the hard decision about their nuclear program onto the next president’s desk. When Vladimir Putin began his invasion and annexation of Crimea, Obama mumbled a soft denunciation and then hustled downtown to a DNC rally, telling the crowd, “Well, it’s Friday, it’s after 5:00. So this is officially happy hour with the Democratic party.' ”  Jonah Goldberg

State Department launches hashtag strike on Russia   "Just when you thought the Obama Administration’s foreign policy couldn’t get any more ridiculous, the State Department sallies forth with a bracing challenge for Russia to respect the lame-o Twitter hashtag they touted last month:
Israeli launches spy satellite after US refusal to push for Iran’s weapons program's dismantlement   You're on your own, Israel.
"The top level of the US administration appears to have fallen into two factions pulling in opposite directions: One group, led by President Barack Obama and National Security Advisor Susan Rice, wants Israel to carry the can for progress or for obstacles in negotiations with the Palestinians, while appeasing the latter and letting Iran off the hook on the concerns of Israel (and other Mid East nations)."

And not one bit of the above seems to concern this president at all.

UPDATE: Barack Obama’s Foreign Policy Is Driving Us Towards War
    neville chamberlain
"President Obama’s foreign policy is a disaster, not only for the United States, but for the world. From the Ukraine to North Korea to Israel, there is nothing but Obama’s failed policies.

"Russian aircraft have entered Ukrainian airspace several times in the last 24 hours. Putin has every intention of seizing Eastern Ukraine and probably all of Ukraine. Will he stop there? He has already made menacing gestures towards the Baltics. He will act while the embarrassingly weak Barack Obama is in office." ...

Charles Krauthammer: Finally getting it right on affirmative action

    Political Cartoons by Michael Ramirez
WaPo   "Every once in a while a great, conflicted country gets an insoluble problem exactly right. Such is the Supreme Court’s ruling this week on affirmative action. It upheld a Michigan referendum prohibiting the state from discriminating either for or against any citizen on the basis of race.

"The Schuette ruling is highly significant for two reasons: its lopsided majority of 6 to 2, including a crucial concurrence from liberal Justice Stephen Breyer, and, even more important, Breyer’s rationale. It couldn’t be simpler. “The Constitution foresees the ballot box, not the courts, as the normal instrument for resolving differences and debates about the merits of these programs.' ”
    ...
"This is pretty weak gruel when compared with the social harm inherent in discriminating by race: exacerbating group antagonisms, stigmatizing minority achievement and, as documented by Thomas Sowell, Stuart Taylor and many others, needlessly and tragically damaging promising minority students by turning them disproportionately into failures at institutions for which they are unprepared." ...

In the old cowboy movies range wars were fought over cows and sheep. Now they’re fought over cows and dessert(sp) tortoises.
Thanks to the Cliven Bundy standoff with BLM we learned that the federal government owns 81% of the land in Nevada. Harry Reid owns the rest. Well, not quite but it seems that way.

Cliven Bundy -- The Man Who Said Too Much    ... "Distance themselves, they should, not just because Bundy’s comments are flatly racist, not just because he managed to project an awful lot onto a segment of society after driving by a building one day, and not just because continued political support will end careers.  His supporters should separate from his cause because his statements go against American ideals on a very basic level."
