Time to Stop Reacting to Terrorists as if They Were Crooks  "From what I know, the three to four police on the scene responded quickly and followed the shooter into a back room.  Along the way, more people were killed than can now be blamed on Mateen with certainty.  Once in the back room and contained, the police treated Mateen like any other criminal, bank robber, or distraught individual, who wanted to live; backed off; and waited for a negotiator.  Meanwhile, the people hiding in that back room were being shot at will.

"The Clinton administration made a fundamental error when it decided to treat terrorists as criminals.  The result has been acknowledged as less than spectacular by most everyone but Madeleine Albright and the Clintons.  Our police, though, followed this example.

"Police follow procedures, with good cause, but it's time for procedures to discriminate killers from crooks and treat them differently.  A shooter in the midst of a mass of people, particularly in a gun-free zone, should be responded to as a terrorist by police and by civilians in the vicinity acting in self-defense." . . .

New York Times reports on desperate hunger and starvation in Venezuela, but omits mention of ‘socialism’

Thomas Lifson  . . . "Yet, oddly enough, in over 1,500 words on the situation, there is no mention whatsoever of socialism as a root cause.  Instead, low oil prices are blamed, and the only mention of a word related to socialism was this:

The man arrested at a Donald Trump rally on the Strip over the weekend said he tried to grab a police officer’s gun so he could kill the Republican presidential candidate, according to a federal complaint filed Monday.

Michael Steven Sandford, 19, was arrested Saturday at Treasure Island and later transferred to federal custody.

He was to appear before a federal judge at 3 p.m. Monday on a charge of committing an act of violence on restricted grounds.

Sandford told a U.S. Secret Service agent he drove to Las Vegas from California in his black 2007 BMW on Thursday to kill Trump, the complaint alleges.

Sandford said he went to a Las Vegas gun range on Friday to learn how to shoot a gun and fired roughly 20 rounds from a 9mm Glock pistol, according to the complaint.

Lynch: "Partial Transcript" Of Orlando 911 Calls Will Have References To Islamic Terrorism Removed

"In an interview with NBC's Chuck Todd, Attorney General Loretta Lynch says that on Monday, the FBI will release edited transcripts of the 911 calls made by the Orlando nightclub shooter to the police during his rampage. 

" 'What we're not going to do is further proclaim this man's pledges of allegiance to terrorist groups, and further his propaganda," Lynch said. "We are not going to hear him make his assertions of allegiance [to the Islamic State]."

"The Washington Post reported last week that the gunman made multiple phone calls while holding hostages: "The gunman who opened fire inside a nightclub here said he carried out the attack because he wanted 'Americans to stop bombing his country,' according to a witness who survived the rampage."

"Salon reported that: “Everybody who was in the bathroom who survived could hear him talking to 911, saying the reason why he’s doing this is because he wanted America to stop bombing his country.' " . . .
