The Fourth of July: What We Should Be Celebrating

Of Thee I Sing 1776  "This is a Republic we have been given, “if” as Franklin is reported to have said, “we can keep it.” Keeping it means knowing what it is to be fortunate enough to live in a republic such as that bequeathed to us by the founders, and how important that is to maintaining both our freedom from the oppressive government our founders feared and the liberty necessary to pursue our individual dreams."

"On this 4th of July weekend, the 234th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence TabRight.com felt it would be appropriate to provide a copy of the document that marked the birth of an independent American nation. Happy Birthday America!"

Leno demonstrates effectiveness of American education on history   "If you want the right answers, get Grandpa to answer them, a message I heartily endorse. Hopefully, he took Jay’s advice and sat his family down with a history book or two, but in fairness, it looks as though plenty of Americans don’t have a clue about their own history."

A silver platter of GOP talking points for November

American Thinker  "Using what I call a "silver platter" of campaign talking points handed to them by the Obama administration and Democrat leadership; Republicans should trounce the opposition in debate after debate all the way to a landslide victory on November 2nd.
"But having said that, I'm beginning to get a little - no - a lot worried at what I am seeing after watching Republicans these past several months."  Neil Braithwaite

Obama Rated One of Best Presidents Ever - Better Than Reagan

Newsbusters "A survey of 238 "presidential scholars" released Thursday ranked Barack Obama as one of the nations's best presidents ever. According to the Siena College Research Institute, Obama is currently in the fifteenth position an amazing three spots AHEAD of Ronald Reagan.
"Imagine that: a man that has been in the White House for less than eighteen months and hasn't accomplished anything is considered better than the president that reinvigorated America after the dreadful Jimmy Carter years while also ending the Cold War.
"Speaking of Carter, these geniuses actually ranked him higher than George W. Bush."

Assimilation and the Founding Fathers

Michelle Malkin "George Washington, in a letter to John Adams, stated that immigrants should be absorbed into American life so that "by an intermixture with our people, they, or their descendants, get assimilated to our customs, measures, laws: in a word soon become one people." "
"In a 1790 speech to Congress on the naturalization of immigrants, James Madison stated that America should welcome the immigrant who could assimilate, but exclude the immigrant who could not readily "incorporate himself into our society.""

I Used to Love America More "I loved America more when a person could say that he thought a culture that had given the world Shakespeare, Rembrandt, DaVinci, Dickens, Bach, Beethoven, the telephone, the electric light, the automobile, the jet plane, rockets to the moon, cell phones, radar and a cure for polio, was superior to one that gave the world Sharia law, suicide bombers and clitorectomies, without being called a jingoist."  Burt Prelutsky  Much more to this letter from Patriot Post.

A Veteran Puts Kagan to Shame

Powerline "It is a remarkable fact that President Obama has nominated to the Supreme Court a woman who, as dean of Harvard Law School, discriminated against military recruiters in violation of federal law. Remarkable, but true. Yesterday, our friend Pete Hegseth testified in opposition to Kagan's confirmation at the invitation of Republican members of the Judiciary Committee. I find it interesting that his perspective--no doubt representative of most Americans--is one that the Democratic members did not think it necessary to consider as part of the confirmation hearing. Pete stated this part of the case against Elena Kagan eloquently:"...

Drug Cartel Shoots at Blackhawk Helicopter; Hits El Paso Courthouse

Gateway Pundit "The incident happened yesterday when a bullet flew into the 9th floor of City Hall. 6 more bullet holes were found on the building, but those rounds are believed to have gotten stuck in the walls."

Here is the letter by Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott:  ..."This threat demands immediate and effective action by your Administration to secure our border. As the Attorney General of Texas, I urge you to make border security your top priority so that no more innocent lives are lost to border violence."

Steele’s Afghanistan Remarks Criticized

WSJ "Conservative commentator William Kristol immediately called for Steele to resign.
At a time when Gen. [David] Petraeus has just taken over command, when Republicans in Congress are pushing for a clean war funding resolution, when Republicans around the country are doing their best to rally their fellow citizens behind the mission, your comment is more than an embarrassment. It’s an affront, both to the honor of the Republican Party and to the commitment of the soldiers fighting to accomplish the mission they’ve been asked to take on by our elected leaders,” he writes in a post at The Weekly Standard.
"Steele released a statement in which he walked back his comments and voices support for the war."
If Steele is forced to resign, let's hope he has enough class not to play the race card. Knowing the Democrats, they likely will. Others agree.

A Letter to Michael Steele  by William Kristol   "... At a time when Gen. Petraeus has just taken over command, when Republicans in Congress are pushing for a clean war funding resolution, when Republicans around the country are doing their best to rally their fellow citizens behind the mission, your comment is more than an embarrassment. It’s an affront, both to the honor of the Republican party and to the commitment of the soldiers fighting to accomplish the mission they’ve been asked to take on by our elected leaders."

Liz Cheney Joins The Michael Steele Should Resign Chorus  "Steele has since clarified his controversial remarks, urging a firm commitment of U.S. military force to Afghanistan on behalf of the president. His hold on the chairmanship, meanwhile, seems relatively secure, so long as other committee members refuse to call for his resignation."
