Biden: one state or two?

Biden pushes Mideast leaders to consider two-state solution after Israel-Hamas war ends | PBS NewsHour   . . ."The push for a two-state solution — one in which Israel would co-exist with an independent Palestinian state — has eluded U.S. presidents and Middle East diplomats for decades. It’s been put on the back burner since the last American-led effort at peace talks collapsed in 2014 amid disagreements on Israeli settlements, the release of Palestinian prisoners and other issues.

"Palestinian statehood is something that Biden rarely addressed in the early going of his administration. During his visit to the West Bank last year, Biden said the “ground is not ripe” for new attempts to reach a permanent peace even as he reiterated to Palestinians the long-held U.S. support for statehood.

"Now, at a moment of heightened concern that the Israel-Hamas war could spiral into a broader regional conflict, Biden has begun to emphasize that once the bombing and shooting stop, working toward a Palestinian state should no longer be ignored.

"Until recently, Biden had put far more emphasis on what his administration saw as the achievable ambition of normalizing relations between Israel and its Arab neighbors than on restarting peace talks." . . .

Diversity Is Where Nations Go to Die

'Diversity' is not a virtue; it's morally neutral: A group of five white upper-middle-class liberal NPR-listening women is non-diverse; a group of four white upper-middle-class liberal NPR-listening women plus Sudan's leading clitorectomy practitioner is more diverse but not necessarily the better for it.

Naval Academy seeks 'Gender and Sexuality Studies' professor

~No such diversions from strategic priorities at the Hamas Military Academy. Our friend Laura Rosen Cohen is impressed by the sophisticated analysis such as one finds at New York magazine:

Sad to watch a man self-decapitating in public.

When I get weary of the BBC et al framing this story solely in terms of mawkish sob-sister drivel about the humanitarian toll in Gaza and I pine for more balanced coverage, I turn, of course, to Saudi Arabia's Al Arabiya. Here's the spunky Rasha Nabil showing the West's grisly Hamas suck-ups how to do it. You won't see this on the Beeb:"

Tamimi
"Despite their fealty to “People of Color,” members of the media just love blonds, especially when those blonds are photogenic young women who slap around Israeli soldiers. No one was more beloved than Ahed Tamimi, a young woman from a village in the West Bank who got the star treatment after a video of her violent act went viral. The same outlets that once thrilled to her dynamism, though, have been strangely silent since she’s revealed an openly expressed, antisemitic genocidal bloodthirstiness that makes actual Nazis look kind of colorless.". . .
"Western leftists fell in love with her. Here’s just a sample of articles over the years from a variety of leftist outlets celebrating the “lioness” of Palestine:". . .
She wrote: "Come on settlers, we will slaughter you. We are waiting for you in all the cities of the West Bank. What Hitler did to you was a picnic. We will drink your blood and eat your skulls."    This is the Palestinian version of blonds have more fun."

Here she is again: ‘We Will Drink Your Blood and Eat Your Skull’: A Legacy of Islamic Savagery - Raymond Ibrahim     . . ."Much, as usual, can be said here, but of curious interest to me are the cannibalistic references, and the fact that they are common among Muslims -- and, as can now be seen, not just of the so-called “radical” variety.

The Islamic State, for instance, has repeatedly stated that “American blood is best, and we will taste it soon.” Nor was this just “picturesque” language. According to a 2017 report, “Islamic State terrorists are teaching their fighters to eat non-Muslims, it has emerged.” (I managed to save one picture, since likely expunged, of an Obama-sponsored Free Syrian Army “rebel” digging into the heart of a fallen Syrian soldier in 2013.)" . . .

Biden is still President. Still.......

Biden can stall until the next president - hopefully a Republican - replaces him and then, with squinted eyes and clenched teeth, condemns anything he, or she- does as cowardly. TD

Iran attacks U.S. troops 28 Times, Biden administration fails to seriously respond - American Thinker'. . ."Hamas butchered more than 30 American citizens. Another baker’s dozen or so are unaccounted for, likely being held hostage inside Hamas’s tunnels in Gaza. Yet the Biden administration hasn’t seriously or effectively pressured Hamas to return them. Disgusting. The Biden administration is, however, constantly pressuring Israel to be measured—or “proportionate”—in its response to the Hamas terrorist attacks.

I am anything but a warmonger. But this isn’t Ukraine. We are talking about repeated direct attacks on American troops. 28 and counting. No other American president, with the exception of Obama, would have been so unconcerned with attacks such as these. (But, what do we expect after the Afghanistan debacle?) Every other one of them, from George Washington to Donald Trump, would have retaliated in one substantive way or another. Though that likely wouldn’t have been necessary, as Iran would have known that, so the attacks probably wouldn’t have occurred in the first place. Does the Biden administration have a bizarre case of Stockholm Syndrome?

Teddy Roosevelt admonished us to “speak softly and carry a big stick.” The Biden administration often yammers on loudly…but can’t even find its twig."

. . ."We’ve been clear. The president’s been clear-- and I have been clear right here-- that if this doesn’t stop, then we will respond. And so we maintain the right to respond. We have the capability to do that. And we will respond at a time and place of our choosing."  Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin
