Back in December, US Special Forces Engage ISIS for First Time, Inflict Heavy Casualties

CONTROVERSIAL TIMES

"Reports out of Iraq indicate that American Special Forces “advisers” have engaged ISIS in ground combat for the first time.
"ISIS forces attacked an Iraqi Army outpost occupied by more than 100 Americans around 1a.m. local time. The American forces responded “equipped with light and medium weapons, supported by F-18″ fighter jets according to sources on the ground.
. . .
"A field commander told reporters that the Americans were able to inflict heavy casualties on ISIS while suffering no casualties of their own while forcing the terror group back to their base some 10 kilometers away."

President Franklin Delano Obama Addresses the Threat of 1930s Violent Extremism

“ 'The United States has made significant gains[2] in our struggle against violent extremism in Europe. We are watching carefully aggressions in Czechoslovakia, Austria, and in Eastern Europe. My diplomatic team has made it very clear that aggression against neighbors is inappropriate and unacceptable. We live in the 20thcentury, where the 19th century practice [3] of changing borders by the use of force has no place in the present era."
. . .
“Finally — with Nazism and fascism peddling the lie that the United States is at war with Germany and Italy — all of us have a role to play by upholding the pluralistic values that define us as Americans. This week we’ll be joined by people of many faiths, including German and Italian Americans who make extraordinary contributions to our country every day. It’s a reminder that America is successful because we welcome people of all faiths and backgrounds. Germany has always been a part of America [16], always a part of the American story. The future will not belong to those who slander German culture. I made clear that America is not — and never will be — at war with Germany."  Full article at the link.

Obama Vetoes Keystone XL: ‘This Act of Congress Conflicts with Executive Branch Procedures’

PJ Media   "President Obama just vetoed legislation dropped on his desk to approve the Keystone XL pipeline.

“ 'Through this bill, the United States Congress attempts to circumvent longstanding and proven processes for determining whether or not building and operating a cross-border pipeline serves the national interest,” Obama said in his statement to the Senate.

“ 'The Presidential power to veto legislation is one I take seriously. But I also take seriously my responsibility to the American people,” he continued. “And because this act of Congress conflicts with established executive branch procedures and cuts short thorough consideration of issues that could bear on our national interest — including our security, safety, and environment — it has earned my veto.”

"The veto comes as no surprise, though this morning congressional Republicans were rallying pressure on the administration through social media.
"House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) called the veto “a national embarrassment.”. . .

The Hill reports: . . . "While the shutdown fight is intensifying on Capitol Hill, Republicans promise they won’t let Keystone drop, and appear ready to try their hand at staging a veto override — something that hasn’t happened in Congress since the George W. Bush years.
It's a risky option, and almost certain to fail — Republicans appear short of the two-thirds majorities they would need to overrule the president, particularly in the House.

‘Zionazi’: BDS Supporters Hate on Oscars Star Lady Gaga

PJ Tatler  The video plays now, but as for later you may have to go to the link to see it.

If you weathered the Academy Awards last night, you may have been pleasantly jolted out of your seat by Lady Gaga’s pitch-perfect tribute for the 50th anniversary of The Sound of Music.

"After Gaga belted out her medley of the musical’s numbers in an uncharacteristically conservative chiffon gown, none other than Julie Andrews came out to give her blessing to the tribute and to give Gaga a big hug.
"Then came the haters:" . . .

"Despite intense pressure from the BDS movement to boycott Israel, Lady Gaga performed in Tel Aviv last September. “Put your hands up and cheer for yourselves,” she told the crowd. “You are strong, you are brave, you are confident, and I f*cking love you, Israel.”
"Afterward, she stressed that “the world view of Israel is just not reality.”
“ 'It’s in a beautiful place, the people are in good spirits. I had a very emotional show with those fans. It was wonderful.' ”
And I has written this woman off as so much shallow pap, but after all this it is hard not to respect her much more. TD

Mitch McConnell is folding like a cheap suit

Red State
skyfalling

"Often we are told about the importance of doing the hard right as opposed to the easy wrong. The Senate GOP, however, is confronted with the option of doing the easy right or the hard wrong. Guess which one Mitch McConnell is opting for.
"The issue facing Congress on the Department of Homeland Security budget is not trivial. What is at stake is nothing less than the issue of separation of powers. The Constitution, despite being more than ahundred years old and hard to understand, gives Congress and Congress alone power to regulate immigration and naturalization. What Obama is doing is not a coincidence. He arrogated to himself the power to decide when Congress was actually in session. The EPA, FCC, and other federal agencies have worked overtime cutting into the authority of Congress.
"The Department of Homeland Security runs out of funding in just a few days.  " . . .

Why the Outrage at Rudy?

Thomas Sowell   . . . "Anyone who simply looks at the factual evidence as to whether Obama loves America, or does not, will find remarkably little to suggest love and a large amount of evidence, over a long period of years, showing his constant close association with people fiercely hostile to this country. Jeremiah Wright was just one in a long series of such people.

"Barack Obama’s campaign promise to “fundamentally change the United States of America” hardly suggests love. Nor did his international speaking tour in 2009, telling foreign audiences that America was to blame for problems on the world stage. President Obama’s record in the White House has been more of the same.

"Among his earliest acts were offending our oldest and closest allies, Britain and Israel, and betraying the country’s previous commitments to provide anti-missile defenses to Poland and the Czech Republic. Obama’s refusal to let Ukraine have weapons with which to defend itself from Russian invasion was consistent with this pattern, and consistent with his whispered statement — picked up by a microphone that was still on — to tell “Vladimir” that, after the 2012 election was over, he would be able to “have more ‘flexibility.’”

Garner’s daughter on Sharpton: ‘He’s all about the money’

NY Post via Drudge:  "Al Sharpton is all about the Benjamins, a daughter of police chokehold victim Eric Garner claims in a bombshell videotape.

"Erica Snipes tees off on the reverend as interested primarily in money during a conversation secretly recorded by controversial conservative activist James O’Keefe’s group, Project Veritas.

"One of O’Keefe’s investigators with a hidden camera posed as a Garner supporter during a protest last month at the St. George Ferry Terminal on Staten Island." . . .
