Israel’s President Extends Invitation to President Trump, Holding Great Hope for the Future

Watcher of Weasels

"Israel’s President Reuven Rivlin has extended an invitation to President Donald Trump to visit the State of Israel.
“Mr. President, as a longstanding friend of the State of Israel, you now stand as leader of the free world, and of Israel’s most important and closest ally,” Rivlin wrote in the letter, which he posted to social media….
Trump has vowed to be a staunch ally to Israel, and had frequently criticized the Obama administration for its treatment of Israel[…]

This Dec 28th opinion in Yeshiva World News ponders the future with President Trump:
tr

“Let’s start with what the Israelis themselves are saying. After the vote, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he would be sharing information with the Donald Trump transition team that proves how the U.S. lobbied other countries behind the scenes to support the resolution. He has not made this public, but Israeli officials tell me it is based in part on what many Arab envoys told Israeli diplomats in private." . . .

Irish documentary on the making of "Saving Private Ryan"

The movie was filmed on a location in Ireland similar to the French Calvados Coast. Many of the troops, about 2500, in the movie battle were soldiers of the Irish Army.

15 Fascinating Facts About ‘Saving Private Ryan’
"It was up to eight men to save the life of one. Here are 15 things you may not have known about Steven Spielberg’s Oscar-winning World War II drama, Saving Private Ryan." . . .

Private Ryan Trivia Just a small sample:
  • "In the German-dubbed version of the movie, one of the actors, who was a German veteran of the Normandy invasion, dropped out and had to be replaced due to the emotional realism of the film."
  • "The Omaha Beach scene cost eleven million dollars to shoot, and involved up to 1,000 extras, some of whom were members of the Irish Army Reserve. Of those extras, twenty to thirty of them were amputees, issued with prosthetic limbs, to simulate soldiers having their limbs blown off.
  • Inspired by the true story of the Niland brothers. Sergeant Frederick "Fritz" Niland was in the 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne. Band of Brothers (2001), produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, told the story of another 101st Airborne unit, Easy Company of the 506th PIR, whose member Sergeant Warren "Skip" Muck was best friends with Niland back home in Tonawanda, New York.

Second Class in the Classroom

"For some students, the above scenario and options may not be a hypothetical, since a collective of teachers and administrators known as the Caucus of Working Educators (a part of the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers) plan to carry out an ad-hoc “Black Lives Matter Action Week” in the city’s public schools beginning January 23."

Steve Feldman   "You are a child sitting in a Philadelphia classroom. The teacher, by implication and action asserts that your life doesn’t matter – and furthermore, that your people and your country are guilty of oppressing and committing genocide against another people.

"Do you argue with the teacher, risking retribution in the form of a bad grade or biased treatment for the remainder of the school year? Do you get up and walk out of the classroom, facing whatever punishment applies for that action? Or do you sit there silently and helpless, feeling oppressed as you conclude that the teacher -- and by extension the school system and the government -- are against you?
. . .
"Perhaps any hatred that such materials and rhetoric foment can be tamped down while the students are in the school building. But what happens when the school day ends? How will this be acted out in the schoolyard or in Philadelphia neighborhoods? Within the past month in Philadelphia a synagogue was vandalized twice and a site where a mikvah (ritual bath) is being constructed was vandalized -- so the concerns are real."

Guess who was left unpardoned!

Political Cartoons by Jerry Holbert

Russ Vaughn "Obama has left town, and guess whom he has left holding the proverbial bag for possible criminality occurring during his presidency?  If you guess Hillary Clinton  and, by extension, her husband, her aide Huma Abedin, and her lawyer Cheryl Mills, among many others who hitched their wagons to the Clinton star  you’re right on the money.  Imagine the ominous sense of impending doom that must be spreading through the Clinton domain as all of them realize that they have lost forever the umbrella of protection from prosecution that a last-minute pardon from a friendly president of their own political party would have afforded them.  They now all stand fully exposed to the elements of criminal prosecution that they had thought themselves immune to during an Obama presidency followed by a Clinton election victory." . . .

American Silliness, naturally including CNN. January 21, 2017

University Gives Kids Juice Boxes, Legos to Deal with Trump Inauguration  . . . "GUPride, an LGBTQ student organization at Georgetown University, is setting up a safe space to help young people deal with the aftermath of making America great again.
"Join GUPride for a night of self-care after a long week. We will have Legos, juice boxes and more," the Facebook invitation reads.
"It's unclear if sippy cups will be provided or if students should bring their own. GUPride did not return my calls.
"The good folks over at Campus Reform got their hands on an email sent to club members with all the juicy details of what they called "Post-inauguration self-care."
“ 'There will be legos and stuffed animals and coloring books—come to embrace the inner child," the LGBTQ club declared." . . .

From Drudge comes this pair on CNN, which match nicely:
1. Nancy Sinatra Slams CNN, Congratulates Trump: ‘Why Do You Lie, CNN?’  . . . "Responding to an article published by CNN originally entitled, “Nancy Sinatra not happy Trump using father’s song at inauguration
She also congratulated the 45th president, tweeting, “Good luck to you.”
 2. Valparaiso YMCA Accused Of Censorship After Banning CNN From TVs  . . . “In order to eliminate perceived political bias associated with national news outlets, the Valparaiso Family YMCA will only be showing local news channels in the future.' ” . . .

TD wishes to thank CNN for their many contributions to this post.  CNN reporter Brynn Gingras breathlessly riding along with a bus of female protesters heading to DC  "CNN shows signs of going full opposition to the Trump presidency, probably in hopes of capturing the loyal viewership of Trump haters.  After being denounced as a fake news outlet, perhaps this is the only reasonable option left."
. . . "CNN’s compilation of her previous work shows that the assignment prior to today was a report on how the inauguration could be traumatic for the Rockettes.
Rioters Pitch Massive Tantrum During Inaugural Ceremonies
"If history has taught us anything, it’s that setting fire to municipal trash cans brings about rapid political change…
"During the inaugural ceremonies, anti-Trump rioters burned things and smashed car windows." . . .
Fox News' Griff Jenkins and this kid were the pinnacle of silliness, but I'd rather not go into it again

College Declares 'You Guys' To Be Offensive  "What are they putting in the water in the University of Wisconsin system? On the heels of UW-Madison students trying to get a conservative student organization declared a "hate group," we have the "Check Yourself Educational Campaign" at UW-River Falls." . . .
"Why not: Erases the identities of those who are in the room."
