Porta-Potties to Antiques: The Curious Journey of Obama’s ‘Green Jobs’

PJ Media Lawmakers accuse the Labor Department of using some broad definitions to give the president toutable green-jobs statistics.
"Galvin also answered “yes” to a string of occupations listed by Issa that the administration considers green jobs.
These include school bus driver, the guy who gases up the school bus, and a clerk at a bicycle repair job.
"And it also includes someone who works at an antique dealer, someone who sells rare books and manuscripts, or someone who works at the Salvation Army thrift shop or a consignment store. Those jobs are now considered “recycling.”
“Do garbagemen have green jobs?” Issa asked.
 “Yes,” Galvin responded.
“How significant is it when they claim 3.1 million jobs and it seems like these are not significant at all?” Issa said, noting that “porta-potty emptying” is now considered a green job. “You weren’t training for ‘magical new jobs,’ you were training for jobs that existed.”    Bridget Johnson
Green Jobs
Rick Moran: 'Green jobs' that aren't, but counted as such
"Obama has claimed that "clean energy industries created 2.7 million jobs and were 'expanding rapidly.'" Maybe if you include housepainters who use green paint, you might get close to that number. Otherwise, just another epic failure of the Obama administration to deliver what he promised."

Obama’s Memorial Day Photo-Op Blocks Families, Vets From D.C. Vietnam Memorial Wall For 7 Hours

Thoughts From A Conservative Mom"On Memorial Day, the Vietnam Memorial in D.C. is supposed to look like this:"
"Instead, for seven long hours, it looked like this:"
"Obama’s secret service shut down the memorial for most of the day, as families and veterans who had come to pay their respects to fallen loved ones were forced to stay hundreds of feet away."....
"In his campaign speech remarks, Obama made sure to mention that:...
“As long as I’m president, we will make sure you and your loved ones will receive the benefits you’ve earned and the respect you deserve,” Obama said. “America will be there for you.”
"... How did our veterans ever get their benefits before the benevolent Obamessiah came to office?   Is that his argument for why they should vote for him?  Because their benefits are only available “as long as I’m president?”"

 The White House account

Right: The official White House photo of the day.   Chosen by someone at the White House, naturally. I think the halo is a nice touch, don't you?

Via Moonbattery, which commented: "Those names represent heroes who died fighting socialism, not crypto-Marxist weenies who prospered by ramming it down America’s throat."
Comments to this post included this one by "Hedgehog":
When I saw that photo it occurred to me that the people who put Comrade Obama in the White House are the same people who helped to put many of those names on the Wall. They did so by knowingly conspiring with the enemy in time of war.

Like Bill Ayres and Bernardine Dohrn? Then "Czuch" added:
Remember, he wanted wounded Vets to pay their hospital bills. They [volunteered] after all.
From "good knight"
... he declared the way Vietnam vets were treated as shameful, while most of those who engaged in these ant-war shameful acts are his major constituency. The 60′s hippies were tools of communist propaganda just like the OWS dirtbags .. the end result, millions of Vietnamese were tortured and killed after the US pulled out… how many Americans will die because of Obama’s shameful support of OWS attacking American Capitalism?

Obama’s Third-Party History

Stanley Kurtz  "I have more to say on the New Party’s ideology and program, Obama’s ties to the party, and the relevance of all this to the president’s campaign for reelection. See the forthcoming issue of National Review.
"In the meantime, let us see whether a press that let candidate Obama off the hook in 2008 — and that in 2012 is obsessed with the president’s youthful love letters  — will now refuse to report that President Obama once joined a leftist third party, and that he hid that truth from the American people in order to win the presidency."   Also here.

Obama as World Leader

Heritage: Barack Obama’s Unwelcome Jubilee Present to Britain  "Barack Obama was all smiles in his carefully scripted message of congratulation to Queen Elizabeth II on her Diamond Jubilee. But...his administration was actively undermining Great Britain ...
....
"The inhabitants of the Falklands are more than 95 percent British and have no desire to be ruled by Argentina, a point that both the OAS and the Obama presidency are happy to ignore. This is a clear-cut case of ... a slap in the face for both the Falkland Islanders as well as the British people. In his message to the Queen today, Barack Obama paid lip service to the Special Relationship, but his actions over the Falklands demonstrate that in practice he has nothing but disdain for America’s closest friend and ally."

Secretary Gates’s STFU Policy   ....“By Wednesday of that week, Gates went to see Donilon, offering up a barbed assessment of how the White House had handled the aftermath of the raid.
“‘I have a new strategic communications approach to recommend,’ Gates said in his trademark droll tones, according to an account later provided by his colleagues.
" “What was that, Donilon asked?
" “‘Shut the f@*k up,’ the defense secretary said.” "

Rick Moran: Panetta: US reaching the 'limits of its patience' with Pakistan  "Every president and Secretary of State and Defense has said this for the last decade. "We're getting close...Lookout! We're going to do something really, really serious - like dash off an angry letter or something." "

Obama fails to commemorate D-Day  "An acknowledgement of the sacrifices of so many Americans on that fateful day would seem to be automatic if you're president. For Obama, nothing is automatic when it comes to American traditions and history."
Political Cartoons by Chuck Asay
Caroline Glick, Israel: The reign of the fantasists   "As for the US, to win the support of Europe, Iran and Turkey, Obama has adopted policies that enable Iran to become a nuclear power, make Assad the most attractive leader in Syria, empower the most anti-American forces in Turkey and pressure Israel to renounce its right and ability to defend itself.
"Standing alone never looked so good."

Bill Kristol: The Administration's Claim that we Need U.N. Authorization to Act in Syria is Just an Excuse   "The fault, of course, is less Panetta's (though he should be ashamed of making this argument) than Obama's."

Blackfive: OBAMA ADMINISTRATION: REMEMBER WHEN “TOP SECRET” ACTUALLY MEANT SOMETHING?  "This sort of behavior, for pure political gain, compromises our intel gathering capabilities and is likely to hurt future operations.   We spend years trying to develop human intelligence networks and agents and in one fell swoop we compromise them (the double agent in Yemen and the doctor in Pakistan).
"Who is going to trust us now?" (Emphasis added.)
...."Amateurs are dangerous.  Amateurs who leak classified information for political gain are even more dangerous.
"It’s time to stop “amateur hour at the White House.” "

The left reacts to the Walker win

Schultz On Walker Win: He Could "Be Indicted In The Next Few Days"  "Ed Schultz, an ardent supporter of unions and the recall of Gov. Scott Walker, reacts to the Wisconsin electorate voting to keep Walker as governor.
...."Ed Schultz concluded the segment by making a wild assertion. "Scott Walker could very well be indicted in the coming days," the MSNBC host said."

Sodahead:  What's this about the possible indictment of Gov. Walker that the left is salivating over?     "This morning, a criminal complaint filed in circuit court alleges that William Gardner, the president and CEO of Wisconsin & Southern Railroad Co., skirted campaign donation laws by soliciting employees to give to Scott Walker’s campaign and then reimbursing them.... It has also come out that Walker’s campaign then reimbursed Gardner and seven additional railroad employees to the tune of $43,800, which indicates a criminal probe is imminent of Walker’s campaign."

From Hope and Change to Fear and Smear

Victor Davis Hanson  "The "hope and change" slogan for a new unity gave way to a new "us versus them" divide. "Us" now means all sorts of targeted appeals to identity groups like African-Americans for Obama, Latinos for Obama, gays for Obamas, greens for Obama, or students for Obama. "Them," in contrast, means almost everyone else who cannot claim hyphenation or be counted on as a single-cause constituency. In 2008, the Obama strategy was supposedly to unite disparate groups with a common vision; in 2012, it is to rally special interests through common enemies."
....
"To be re-elected, a now-polarizing Obama believes that he must stoke the fears of some of us rather than appeal to all of our hopes by defending a successful record, while smearing with the old politics rather than inspiring with the new. That cynical calculation and constant hedging and flip-flopping may be normal for politicians, but eventually it proves disastrous for the ones who posed as messianic prophets."                         Image from Zazzle (right)

The recall heard round the world

Ann Coulter  "I watched the Wisconsin returns on MSNBC Tuesday night, and it came right down to the wire between “the Democrats were outspent 7-to-1″ and “Republicans are stripping union rights!” ....
"This election had nothing to do with people being paid a fair wage for the work they do. The question is: Do you want a society where the people whose salaries you pay make more than those who pay them?"
"The Democrats will do anything the government unions ask, because (1) It’s not their money they’re spending, it’s the taxpayers’; and (2) Government unions reciprocate by making sure the Democrats keep getting re-elected."

Coulter then discusses what the consequences were when Gov. Schwarzenegger tried to take on unions in an off-year election:

"Let’s see, who would be likely to vote in an off-year election? We’re going to cut your exorbitant benefits, require you to work, and make it easier to fire you, public employees. Do you have any interest in voting on that?....

"In the end, union members turned out in droves on Election Day, defeating every single initiative. "Everyone else in California woke up the next day and said, “Hey, did you know there was an election yesterday?”
"The failure of Schwarzenegger’s propositions ended his governorship. From that day on, he became the Democrats’ plaything.
"The 2010 census marks the first time California has lost population since it became a state."

"While the invasion forces gathered throughout Great Britain, the United States Navy assigned combat artists to record the great adventure. For the young artists, the challenge was unique. During their training period, they lived with the crews of the vessels destined to take part in the invasion; they rode the ships across the channel, and accompanied the troops as they landed. Their paintings, including descriptions of their work, were subject to strict censorship. Not until well after the events occurred did the Navy Art Collection receive these historic records."
