John Kerry will travel to New York to convince the world that the United States is working toward a world free of nuclear weapons. He has a stronger case than you might think.

Council on Foreign Relations. . . " World diplomats will work to ensure that the treaty’s basic bargain is still sound: as long as the five original nuclear powers work to eliminate their nuclear arsenals, the rest of the world’s states promise not to develop their own. This year, the nonproliferation regime faces a major test: Fed up with the slowest nuclear arms reductions since the end of the Cold War, a coalition of states are moving to draft a global ban on nuclear weapons. In response, the United States will attempt to assure the world that it is making progress toward a world free of nuclear weapons. In fact, the Obama administration’s record on disarmament has been strong, but it will have to work harder to revitalize the fragile NPT." . . .Adam Mount, Stanton Nuclear Security Fellow

Alan Caruba; Could You Spot a Potential School Shooter?

"In April 1999, we were all stunned by the news that Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold had attacked and killed students at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado and, more recently, in December 2012, that Adam Lanza, after killing his mother at home, then massacred twenty-six staff and students at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. These events evoke dread of potential events, a quest to understand why they occurred, and ways to avoid further comparable killings.

"Peter Langman has authored “School Shooters: Understanding High School, College, and Adult Perpetrators.” It offers very little comfort, but only because this psychologist, widely recognized for his expertise, is refreshingly honest.

“ 'Many people seek to reduce school shootings to a bite-sized explanatory chunk, but the phenomenon defies easy analysis,” says Langman. “There is no one cause of school shootings, there is no one intervention that will prevent school shootings, and there is no one profile of a school shooter.' ” . . .

Simper Fem

"In an increasingly dangerous world, it is critically important that the United States Marines remain the roughest, toughest asskickers on Earth. Unfortunately, what's even more important - at least in the eyes of the Obama administration - is to make sure that women can qualify for Marine infantry officer positions.

"Currently, there's nothing stopping women from getting those positions except for one niggling detail: they can't do the job. Specifically, out of a group of 29 female Marines who recently went through the Marine Infantry Officer Course, a grand total of none, nada, zip, zilch, zero passed. In fact only four of the women even made it through the first day's combat endurance test - which is pretty discouraging when one considers that some wars take even more than a day to fight.

"But as the old saying goes, "When the going gets tough, make it less tough for the girls." Or at least that's the old saying which seems to be guiding Army General Martin Dempsey, the nation's top military officer, who has said that if women can't meet the physical requirements for combat, it's up to the military commanders to either prove those requirements are really and truly necessary or lower the standards.

"Put another way, those damn sexist Marines will have to prove that their long-established standards of physical excellence and endurance are actually more than simple misogyny. After all, who's to say that it's better to be able to carry a wounded comrade to safety rather than just having a good cry?

"The administration's goal is to eventually have a military which is completely "gender neutral," much like the new bathroom in the White House. Failing that, they'll apparently settle for a military which is gender neutered."

18 spectacularly wrong apocalyptic predictions made around the time of the first Earth Day in 1970, expect more this year

 Political Cartoons by Henry Payne

Mark J. Perry at AEI  "In the May 2000 issue of Reason Magazine, award-winning science correspondent Ronald Bailey wrote an excellent article titled “Earth Day, Then and Now” to provide some historical perspective on the 30th anniversary of Earth Day. In that article, Bailey noted that around the time of the first Earth Day, and in the years following, there was a “torrent of apocalyptic predictions” and many of those predictions were featured in his Reason article. Well, it’s now the 45th anniversary of  Earth Day, and a good time to ask the question again that Bailey asked 15 years ago: How accurate were the predictions made around the time of the first Earth Day in 1970? The answer: “The prophets of doom were not simply wrong, but spectacularly wrong,” according to Bailey. Here are 18 examples of the spectacularly wrong predictions made around 1970 when the “green holy day” (aka Earth Day) started:"
. . .
 This was number eighteen:
18. Kenneth Watt warned about a pending Ice Age in a speech. “The world has been chilling sharply for about twenty years,” he declared. “If present trends continue, the world will be about four degrees colder for the global mean temperature in 1990, but eleven degrees colder in the year 2000. This is about twice what it would take to put us into an ice age.”

MP: Let’s keep those spectacularly wrong predictions from the first Earth Day 1970 in mind when we’re bombarded tomorrow with media hype, and claims like this from the official Earth Day website:
Scientists warn us that climate change could accelerate beyond our control, threatening our survival and everything we love. We call on you to keep global temperature rise under the unacceptably dangerous level of 2 degrees C, by phasing out carbon pollution to zero. To achieve this, you must urgently forge realistic global, national and local agreements, to rapidly shift our societies and economies to 100% clean energy by 2050. Do this fairly, with support to the most vulnerable among us. Our world is worth saving and now is our moment to act. But to change everything, we need everyone. Join us.

STILL NO REPORTS OF "HILLARY FEVER" OUTBREAKS

 Political Cartoons by Lisa Benson
Hillary's long list of accomplishments consists of: (1) being cheated on as first lady; (2) being handed a Senate seat from a heavily Democratic state, where she accomplished nothing legislatively (other than her vote for the Iraq War, which I think was terrific!); and (3) being appointed secretary of state, whereupon she participated in one foreign policy disaster after another.
Ann Coulter "I gather from the increasing hysteria of the feminists that Democrats are beginning to rebel at having a loser of a presidential candidate being foist upon them, in the person of Hillary Clinton.

"The same way the national tea party leaders are a thorn in the side of the Republican Party, constantly challenging incumbent Republicans with untested candidates who then go on to lose to Democrats (in Delaware, Indiana and Nevada, and nearly in Kentucky, Kansas and Mississippi), the feminists are a thorn in the side of the Democrats, saddling them with utter mediocrities like Hillary.

"Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Sen. Patty Murray are, objectively, two of the least appealing human beings ever elected to any office. (That sentence still works even without the words "elected to any office.") But God help the Democrats if they tried to replace Schultz as chair of the Democratic National Committee or Murray as secretary of the Senate Democratic Caucus.

"Slate magazine is even demanding that Murray be made Senate minority leader as a sop to the feminists. (I think they have a good point!)

"Now, to satiate the feminists, the Democrats seem to be stuck with Hillary as their presidential nominee.

"No one really likes Hillary. Ask Bill. Like Toni Morrison novels, most people just pretend to like Hillary just so liberals will leave them alone." . . .Full article

The Jewish State Alone

"In today’s WSJ, Bret Stephens headlines his weekly column, “Israel Alone”.
Recent conversations with senior Israeli officials are shot through with a sense of incredulity. They can’t understand what’s become of U.S. foreign policy.

They don’t know how to square Barack Obama’s promises with his policies. They fail to grasp how a president who pledged to work toward the abolition of nuclear weapons is pushing an accord with Tehran that guarantees their proliferation. They are astonished by the nonchalance with which the administration acquiesces in Iran’s regional power plays, or in al Qaeda’s gains in Yemen, or in the Assad regime’s continued use of chemical weapons, or in the battlefield successes of ISIS, or in Russia’s decision to sell advanced missiles to Tehran. They wonder why the president has so much solicitude for Ali Khamenei’s political needs, and so little for Benjamin Netanyahu’s.

In a word, the Israelis haven’t yet figured out that what America is isn’t what America was. They need to start thinking about what comes next.  Read more...

Episcopal Seminary: Jesus Christ is a Transexual Icon

RedState   "Yesterday, I posted on how history is being tortured in the service of promoting homosexual marriage as a completely normal thing that was honored through the ages but lately forbidden by uptight, sexually repressed white guys. It isn’t sufficient that marriage, and institution formed by Christ, be made to support distinctly un-Christian acts, now our Savior, himself, is being outed as a transexual."

"The political left has always been quick to enlist Christ in their causes even when they are, themselves, devout atheists. For instance,

"I say it should be no surprise as the Episcopal Church in America has completely disavowed Christianity as revealed by God and as practiced for two millenia. This total rupture from the body of Christ culminated in the ordination of Gene Robinson, a homosexual living — openly and notoriously, as lawyers say — in a state of mortal sin, as a bishop. Now, it seems like the Episcopal denomination, having killed off the vestigial traces of Christianity, is now hellbent on trolling the rest of us." . . .

Via Daily Mail:
A tree dedicated to the memory of Michael Brown has been destroyed by vandals just hours after being planted.

The sapling was planted in January-Wabash Park in Ferguson, Missouri on Saturday as a dedication to the teenager, who was gunned down in the street by a police officer last August[ed.- ‘gunned down’ = shot after attacking police officer].

It was called ‘a symbol of peace, comfort and hope for all who gather around its branches’ at a small ceremony led by the Black Caucus of the American Library Association, which donated the tree.

But by Sunday morning, the branches had been stripped, leaving behind just a shard of the trunk.

Victor Davis Hanson  "Hillary Clinton in recent months has done the following:

"She charged UCLA somewhere around $300,000 for reciting some platitudes. That works out to  over $165 a second for her 30 minutes on stage — meaning that she made more in one minute than a student barista does in a year.

"Ms. Clinton acknowledges that, while secretary of state, she solicited donations from wealthy foreign nationals for her family foundation, whose funds she and her husband have frequently tapped for exclusive travel and other expenses.

Mikey Weinstein, Obama’s Personal Czar To Eradicate Christianity In The Military: Nominated for Weasel of the Week (UPDATED)

UPDATE: The winner of the Weasel of the Week nominations! . . ." Now this award, the Golden Weasel, actually celebrates certain human qualities. To be able to freely demonize and attack people you hate just because without fear of consequences, be recognized and rewarded for it by prog fascists and their tools and to make a handsome living doing it, is, to be blunt about it, weasel heaven. Mikey Weinstein has achieved all three, from his posh offices to the Lotus he drives. The president is making sure the Pentagon has his back and he can destroy the careers of far better men with a phone call. Like I said, he’s in weasel heaven. He deserves this statuette and it belongs on the shelf with all the other awards he’s received for his war on Christians in the military." . . .

"JoshuaPundit : A lot of people have never heard of Michael ‘Mikey’ Weinstein. But he’s an influential point man in one of [commander-in-chief] President Barack Hussein Obama’s most ambitious projects.

"Whether it’s trying to force combat troops to give up their VA benefits, using their coffins as a campaign photo-op or illegally suppressing their votes, President Obama has shown from day one that he pretty much despises the American military, especially their values. Since most Americans do honor our military, the president’s solution is to change the nature of those whom serve to the degree possible. One way is to force as many men as possible out of the service, especially officers, and replace them with people more likely to see things this president’s way, especially when it comes to politics. A second front, if you will, is to change the military’s culture so that any semblance of Judeo-Christian expression and values are eliminated.

"And that’s where a militant atheist like Mikey comes in. You see, Mikey and his ‘Military Religious Freedom Foundation’ are raking in lots of taxpayers dollars to wage war on Christianity in the military as official Pentagon consultants.

"And Mikey Weinstein hates Christians (whom he sees as Tea Party right wingers) and Christianity with a special hatred, as well as religious Jews. He actually blamed Christians for the Fort Hood terrorist attack, saying proselytizing by “fundamentalist Christians”created a hostile environment that caused jihadist Major Nidal Hasan to go on his rampage,

"As a result, both retention and enlistments are way down among believing Christians, who have always been disproportionally represented among those who volunteer for military service. And because Weinstein has particularly targeted chaplains, whom he wants out of uniform and denied all military rank and benefits, recruiting Christian chaplains whom feel they can no longer practice their faith has become extraordinarily difficult.

"What this portends for the future of America’s military is not pleasant to contemplate."

Can you believe this? Democrats Rule By Intimidation and Personal Destruction

The John Doe Law:  Revealed: How Partisan Prosecutors Harassed and Intimidated Wisconsin Conservatives
. . . " Read the whole thing (and here's what SWATing is, for those who haven't heard of it).  French's reporting identifies the chief culprit in all of this as hardcore Democrat and Milwaukee District Attorney John Chisolm, who was skewered in this lengthy piece by Stuart Taylor last year.  Taylor quoted a former prosecutor explaining how Chisolm, at the prodding of his wife -- a fanatical Walker opponent -- made bringing down Walker his "personal duty."  Posters depicting the pro-union 'blue fist' emblem hung on the walls of Chisolm's supposedly nonpartisan office.  Milwaukee's top prosecutor became the Democratic Party's top hatchet man, abetted by a rubber-stamp judge (who has since recused herself), and vested with the full powers of the state. Wisconsin’s Shame: ‘I Thought It Was a Home Invasion’.

" 'They came with a battering ram.”
"Cindy Archer, one of the lead architects of Wisconsin’s Act 10 — also called the “Wisconsin Budget Repair Bill,” it limited public-employee benefits and altered collective-bargaining rules for public-employee unions — was jolted awake by yelling, loud pounding at the door, and her dogs’ frantic barking. The entire house — the windows and walls — was shaking.

"She looked outside to see up to a dozen police officers, yelling to open the door. They were carrying a battering ram." . . .
. . . "As if the home invasion, the appropriation of private property, and the verbal abuse weren’t enough, next came ominous warnings.
"Don’t call your lawyer.
"Don’t tell anyone about this raid. Not even your mother, your father, or your closest friends.
The entire neighborhood could see the police around their house, but they had to remain silent. This was not the “right to remain silent” as uttered by every cop on every legal drama on television — the right against self-incrimination. They couldn’t mount a public defense if they wanted — or even offer an explanation to family and friends.
" 'Yet no one in this family was a “perp.” Instead, like Cindy, they were American citizens guilty of nothing more than exercising their First Amendment rights to support Act 10 and other conservative causes in Wisconsin. Sitting there shocked and terrified, this citizen — who is still too intimidated to speak on the record — kept thinking, “Is this America?' ” . . .

Rush Limbaugh  . . . "Let me give you the actual title of the story.  "John Doe's Tyranny -- Wisconsin conservatives have been subjected to secretive, baseless investigations." But that subhead doesn't even come close to telling it is reader what he's about to discover.  It's about the John Doe laws in Wisconsin, which we have discussed on occasion on this program.  John Doe means the state can literally investigate anybody without telling them why, and they can deny them lawyers." . . . Emphasis added, TD

. . . "You know, I knew the John Doe laws and I knew they'd been abused and I'd heard this or that. But I did not know until Sunday night just how outrageous the application of the John Doe laws has been. There's a term that has been developed to describe what happens here. It's "lawfare" as in warfare, except this warfare conducted by law enforcement.  "Lawfare."  Walker hasn't talked about it.  I mean, everybody knows what he went through. Everybody knows the attacks on him."

. . . " 'As Scott Walker's first campaign for governor got underway in 2010, the Milwaukee district attorney, John Chisholm, opened the initial John Doe investigation under a proviso of the law that allows officials to keep their targets secret and to compel them to [shut] up." John Chisholm, C-H-I-S-H-O-L-M, the DA, "[a] partisan Democrat whose wife was a shop steward for a teachers union," and she was miffed  that Scott Walker was elected and began to implement his reforms of corrupt union activities in Wisconsin." . . .

. . . "The judge, without whom this case could not have happened, is Barbara Kluka, K-l-u-k-a, and I'll tell you what she did.  She came along in the second John Doe investigation, and she approved every petition, every subpoena, every search warrant in the whole case in less than one day's work.  She enabled law enforcement to raid these innocent citizens' homes. " . . .
. . . “ 'This is a taxpayer-funded, opposition-research campaign,” one source said. “This is not a question of what conservatives did wrong. It’s a question of one party in this state using prosecutorial powers to conduct a one-sided investigation into conservatives.' ”

John Does come with strict penalties for those who violate the terms of the secret proceedings.
The knock on the door in the dead of night is the stuff of Darkness at Noon, and of the state of Wisconsin. . . . "Wisconsin legislators are considering scaling back the law enabling John Doe investigations to prevent future abuses. The John Doe process might make sense for unraveling a dangerous criminal syndicate; it isn’t appropriate in a tenuous campaign-finance investigation, let alone as a tool of intimidation against people on the wrong side of a political argument."

Legal Insurrection: Wisconsin Dems used battering rams against Scott Walker supporters – literally. . . " It was a full-frontal assault on civil liberties and free speech, as was detailed in Exposed: How Prosecutors targeted Scott Walker and conservatives. It had a profoundly chilling effect on conservative activists, who were afraid to associate with each other or to advance political issues, for fear that they or others would hear the battering ram again at the door."

THIS IS A PICTURE OF JUDGE BARBARA KLUKA: Make Her Name a Household Word . . . " Empowered by a rubber-stamp judge, partisan investigators ran amok. They subpoenaed and obtained (without the conservative targets’ knowledge) massive amounts of electronic data, including virtually all the targets’ personal e-mails and other electronic messages from outside e-mail vendors and communications companies." . . .
. . . "Godwin's Law be damned: Barbara Kluka would have thrived as a judge in Nazi Germany. She should be sanctioned and subjected to every criminal charge imaginable. Judges are supposed to uphold the law, not rubberstamp the criminal suppression of political opponents."
