Government Greed

Thomas Sowell  "Perhaps one of the most unconscionable acts of greed by government is confiscating people's homes, in order to turn this property over to other people, who are expected to build things that will pay more taxes.
"The Constitution allows the government to take private property for its own use, provided "just compensation" is paid. That way the government can build reservoirs, bridges, or highways, for example, even if that requires displacing some people. But judges over the years have expanded this power to include taking private property just to turn it over to some other private individual or business."

Obama administration appeals gay marriage ruling

Reuters  "The Obama administration decided on Tuesday to appeal a judge's rulings that prevented the U.S. government from banning same-sex marriages, a move that could undermine support among President Barack Obama's traditional liberal base ahead of a key election."

Casting Call for Audience of Obama’s MTV Town Hall?

ABC News  "What else would you expect from a president who was elected by our youth based on the fact that he was "cool".. MTV is holding a "casting call" for audience members for its townhall meeting with Obama." Via  Nealz Nuze

President Obama To Host Youth Town Hall Special On MTV  "President Barack Obama will take part in a youth town hall special on October 14 called "A Conversation With President Obama."

White House Is Lifting Ban on Deepwater Drilling

NY Times  "The moratorium left 33 deepwater drilling rigs idle in the gulf, and the resulting loss of jobs engendered some anger in the region. Senator Mary Landrieu, a Louisiana Democrat, has blocked the confirmation of Mr. Obama’s nominee to run the Office of Management and Budget, Jack Lew, saying she would not allow the nomination to go forward until the moratorium was eased.
"For their part, environmentalists have called on the White House to extend the freeze on deepwater drilling and extend it to shallow-water drilling as well."

Drill, Baby Drill  "So - do they manage to firther(sic) irritate their base by lifting the ban but not placate drillers as they drag their feet on permits?  Based on the current track record of the Administration that has to be the bet."   JustOneMinute

How the Obama Tax Hikes Affect You (Updated)

Heritage  "On top of President Obama’s failed spending policies, now the White House wants to saddle the U.S. economy with the largest tax hike in American history. Taxes on individual income, capital gains and dividends are all set to rise. As Harvard professor Greg Mankiw explained yesterday: “[D]on’t let anyone fool you into thinking that when the government taxes the rich, only the rich bear the burden.”"

Democrats and your pensions  "The Democrats got their "universal healthcare." What's to make you think that they wouldn't go for "universal retirement" next? This isn't some fairytale that I am making up to scare you right before an election. This stuff is actually being discussed in Washington as we speak.
"If you leave the Democrats in power I guarantee you that a move will be made to seize private retirement accounts."

States thumb nose at health reform  "A handful of governors are beginning to seriously flex their muscles in attempts to block the federal health reform law by rejecting grants or legislative action, a worrisome move for health reform’s most stalwart supporters."

ATTACKING THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE (Updated)

Neal Boortz  "In fact .. when someone asked Obama dog-washer David Axelrod to prove that foreign money is being used by the Chamber of Commerce in campaign efforts, Axelrod's response was for the questioner to prove that it wasn't. There's your sign of desperation. Make an accusation with no basis in fact, then tell your opponents to prove it isn't true. "

Pamela Geller on Obama's Foreign Campaign Contributions

"Obama received donations from people in Gaza and other foreign entities. He claimed to have returned the contributions from Gaza, but there is no record of his having done so. Apparently Obama's clean-up crew sent Asman a record of "refunds" -- something he claimed in '08 but which never appeared in the records. They claim that the money has been returned, but the donors in Gaza said it wasn't. When we reviewed the records it wasn't. The fixers had two years to wash these dirty donations clean. Dirty pool.

Terror threat to restaurants as Al Qaeda calls for attacks on government workers in D.C. (Updated)

NY Daily News  The advice appears in "Inspire," the latest issue of a slick propaganda publication by Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, Osama Bin Laden's franchise in Yemen.
"A random hit at a crowded restaurant in Washington, D.C., at lunch hour might end up knocking out a few government employees," Yahya Ibrahim writes in the 74-page jihadi how-to magazine.

D.C.'s busy bars, restaurants and lunchtime hangout spots could be the next terror targets as wannabe jihadis seek to kill U.S. government workers.

Low-Level Urban Terrorism: The Next Big Thing for Al-Qaeda?   We should certainly take prudent precautions against such assaults, but we should also keep some perspective. It is still “spectacular” attacks that we need fear the most — and especially the prospect of terrorists getting their hands on nuclear weapons, which, as President Obama accurately observed, would be a “game-changer.”

It's Okay on Nickelodeon for Girls to Beat Up Boys (Updated)

American Thinker  "Jon Stewart hosts "The Daily Show" on Comedy Central. In a controversial segment of "The Daily Show," Stewart, imitating Glenn Beck, criticized FOX for corporate contributions to the GOP. Stewart failed to mention that his parent company, Viacom, gives a lot of money to Democrats. So progressives run Viacom (yawn) -- back to Viacom's kids' shows on Nick.
"The first program I watched with my granddaughter was "iCarly." "...

Is Liberalism Killing the Manly Man?  "The truth is, that the spirit of the great American man is dying. In the age of entitlement mindsets and a perpetually defeatist attitude, if we don’t pro-actively pass the concept of independent self-reliance on to our children it could be lost forever." Steven Crowder. Hat tip to Bully Pulpit

ISLAM ON CAPITAL HILL: JESUS, THE MUSLIM PROPHET

Atlas Shrugs  "Throwing sand in the eyes of the kuffir*..... I am deeply offended as I am sure many of you are. But embassies won't burn and people won't get slaughtered. Which is why we are losing this war. That is the low state of the world."

The perils of overreach

George F. Will  "The damage that has been done to the Democrat brand in just 20 months has encouraged comparisons of Obama to Carter, who seemed miniaturized by the presidency, and to Dukakis, who seemed mystified that Massachusetts' political culture was not the national norm. There also is, however, an Obama resemblance to Lyndon Johnson."

Crisis averted: Man who threw book at Obama was “overexuberant” supporter

Hot Air  "The US Secret Service found and interviewed the man who threw the book onstage. He was deemed to be an “overexhuberant” supporter who wanted the President to have a copy of a book he had written, according the Special Agent Edwin Donovan of the Secret Service in Washington. “He was deemed not to be a threat and was not arrested,” Donovan told ABC News."
