"Los Angeles County has a credible and viable district attorney's race going, and it may be their salvation. Incumbent district attorney George Gascón could not even reach 30 percent of the vote on March 5, and the level of disgust with him among Angeleans only continues to rise.

"Gascón's challenger, former federal prosecutor and assistant U.S. District Attorney Nathan Hochman achieved just shy of 16 percent of the vote, but it is enough to be the top two vote-getter and included on the general election ballot." . . .

"The flaw in this analysis is the writer views this race through the lens of Democrat vs. Republican, instead of safety and accountability vs. endangerment and irresponsibility. Now that the race has been drilled down to Gascón and Hochman, let us hope that Los Angeles County voters will have the wherewithal to demand a return to safety, accountability, and sanity--and jettison Gascón from office."

Derek Chauvin and his colleagues did not murder George Floyd. Chauvin’s prosecution and trial are emblematic of a criminal justice system gone awry — and not just in Minneapolis.

To control the still struggling Floyd, Chauvin used a prone restraint known as the Maximal Restraint Technique (MRT), an approved MPD protocol for resisting arrestees and prisoners. Chauvin knelt on Floyd’s left shoulder and neck. Lane restrained Floyd’s back, and Keung his legs. Chauvin’s partner, Tou Thao, shielded the officers from a hostile crowd. 

"Thinking Floyd subject to excited delirium, a diagnosis well known by law enforcement, the officers called for an ambulance within a minute of initiating the prone restraint. About eight minutes after the restraint was applied, Floyd suddenly grew quiet. He had, in fact, died.  Resuscitation measures on scene and at the ER were unsuccessful.

All suggest cardiac arrest.  An autopsy was performed Tuesday morning, May 26, by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner, Dr. Andrew Baker.
