Also, Obama issued same-day orders lowering the flag following the the July 20, 2012 Aurora, Colorado mass shooting, December 14, 2012 Sandy Hook, Connecticut mass shooting and the September 16, 2013 Washington Navy Yard mass shooting.

Seeking an effective argument FOR gun control (Posted here after the terrible Sandy Hook massacre)

 Here, two respected writers discuss the case against taking away individual firearms from Americans. Yes, it is true that if guns did not exist everywhere in this nation those little children in Sandy Hook would be living right now and I only wish that were the case. But it is not and there are violent people out there in their thousands and they are armed; willing and lusting to watch innocent people die in bunches by their hands. How, exactly do you gun-control advocates plan to remove those weapons from their blood-thirsty hands?
I will honestly look for a reasoned argument FOR gun control that contains effective means for keeping us safe from those who carry weapons illegally and are willing to do us harm. Cartoons showing crazed, wild-eyed gun owners don't wash.
As yet, I have seen only politically correct, emotional responses to the issue that have no value other than simply making a politician look as if they are doing something. TD

There was a collection of mostly local people on the Woodbury town green from noon on, growing to over a hundred by 2pm. People ... formed a human wall to block the signs of any would be protestors. The atmosphere was quiet and respectful for the sake of the families. .... I believe our numbers and our determination to not create a media scene or any trouble they could capitalize off of dissuaded them from showing up today.

Israel and Gun Violence; why gun violence is less common in Israel–where many carry guns openly–than in the U.S.:

It is hard enough for me to fathom one person feeling this way, but to think of him passing these feelings on to an entire congregation is beyond my comprehension.
We become like what we worship; to draw closer to the Jesus revealed in the Scriptures is to become more like Him who was always aware that everything in his life was under the control of the Father (hence the spiritual struggle I have doing this blog). This is part of what the peace of God the angels spoke of at the first Christmas was about. What these Westboro people have learned of Jesus I cannot begin to guess.

After the gunfire ended Friday at Sandy Hook Elementary School, the trail of loss was more than many could bear: 20 children and six adults at the school, the gunman’s mother at home, and the gunman himself.

"According to the authorities, all six adults killed at the school were women.
"Of the 20 children who were shot to death, eight were boys and 12 were girls. All the children were ages 6 or 7."

"Janet Robinson, the superintendent of Newtown Public Schools, said Sherlach and the school’s principal ran toward the shooter. They lost their own lives, rushing toward him.

First pictures of the tragic children murdered in their classrooms after 'deeply disturbed' gunman massacred 26 at Connecticut school

UK Mail  "The three teachers murdered at Sandy Hook Elementary School all died heroes trying to save their students from the gunman.

"Principal Dawn Hochsprung, 47, school psychologist Mary Sherlach, 56, and 27-year-old Victoria Soto (pictured right), a first grade teacher, as three of the eight adults found dead on Friday.

Twenty-eight people died in the shooting rampage, including 20 young children between the ages of five and ten, alleged gunman Adam Lanza, who took his own life, and his mother, who was shot before the school massacre.

"MailOnline can now reveal that Miss Soto sacrificed herself to save her students - throwing her body in front of the young children*.

"When Lanza began started firing at the school in suburban Newtown, Connecticut, some teachers dived under tables - but the Mrs Hochsprung and Mrs Sherlach never hesitated.

"They ran into the hallway to confront the danger - and were murdered execution-style as a result . The New York Times reports that Mrs Hochsprung buzzed Lanza into the school, bypassing the newly-installed security system - recognizing him as the son of Nancy Lanza. It's unclear what Nancy Lanza's connection to the school was, if she had one at all."

*Another report said Soto hid her kids in a closet and told the gunman they were in the gym just before he killed her.

"A custodian ran through the halls, warning of a gunman on the loose, and someone switched on the intercom, alerting people in the building to the attack -- and perhaps saving many lives -- by letting them hear the hysteria going on in the school office, a teacher said. Teachers locked their doors and ordered children to huddle in a corner or hide in closets as shots echoed through the building."

Newtown, Conn. School District Had Recently Installed New Safety Protocols

CBS New York  "In the wake of the tragic school shooting in Newtown, Conn., that left more than two dozen people dead, including 18 children, CBS 2 has learned the school district had just installed a new safety policy designed to prevent situations such as what happened on Friday.

"At approximately 9:41 a.m. a gunman opened fire inside Sandy Hook Elementary School. Early reports indicated one child and the gunman, who has not been identified yet, were killed, but later the horror of what actually took place started to come to the surface. It was later learned a second person connected to the massacre was taken into custody, but the specifics of who he is and how he was possibly connected to the tragedy were not immediately known."
