University of Chicago tells freshmen: Don’t expect ‘trigger warnings,’ ‘safe spaces’ or disinvitations of controversial speakers

The Volokh Conspiracy  Excerpts here:
"I wanted to join those who are praising the University of Chicago letter to incoming freshmen:
       Dear Class of 2020 Student:
Once here you will discover that one of the University of Chicago’s defining characteristics is our commitment to freedom of inquiry and expression. This is captured on the University’s faculty report on freedom of expression. Members of our community are encouraged to speak, write, listen, challenge and learn, without fear of censorship. Civility and mutual respect are vital to all of us, and freedom of expression does not mean the freedom to harass or threaten others. You will find that we expect members of our community to be engaged in rigorous debate, discussion, and even disagreement. At times this may challenge you and even cause discomfort. Our commitment to academic freedom means that we do not support so-called “trigger warnings,” we do not cancel invited speakers because their topics might prove controversial, and we do not condone the creation of intellectual “safe spaces” where individuals can retreat from ideas and perspectives at odds with their own. . . .

In Response to France's Burkini Ban, People are Demanding a Speedo Ban for Fat Men

PJ Media  "In the wake of recent terrorist attacks by radical Muslim extremists in France, beaches have begun banning burkinis—full-body swimwear worn by Muslim women—at public pools and beaches because they've been deemed a security risk. The first ban was imposed in Cannes on the French Riviera and they've now spread to 14 other cities. Tensions over the minimalist dress code escalated this week when someone snapped pictures of police officers in Nice reportedly forcing a Muslim woman in Nice to partially disrobe.
"Now, some people are wondering whether other swimsuits that make people uncomfortable should be banned. This guy will be the first to go if Paul Webb has his way:" . . .

Why not Hillary? American voters already chose a petulant, vindictive juvenile twice.

Hillary and the culture of impunity  . . . "Mr. Trump's call for a special prosecutor now puts the stakes in this year's presidential race in sharp focus. No one believes, of course, that this attorney general will seek the appointment of a special prosecutor. But for Mrs. Clinton, Trump's demand means that she will almost certainly face new federal investigation and, quite likely, prosecution if she loses the election.
"This takes the 2016 race out of anything before seen in American history. It's Hillary's own fault, of course. But it still makes this contest uncomfortably like an election in a Third World country." . . .
The moral rot which pervades Clintonism proceeds apace. As Bob Dole said in 1996 (when campaigning against Bill Clinton), "where's the outrage?"
Why didn't El Chapo create a foundation?  . . . "El Chapo's gang could have avoided the whole thing with the creation of a foundation.  They could have put some pretty face up front and collected cash for the purpose of sending glasses for the poor children of Oaxaca and other poor areas in Mexico." . . .

Gowdy: Hillary Used a Special Tool to Wipe Home-brewed Server  (video). . . “ 'That’s the interesting thing about credibility and believability, you can’t just keep it in one compartment,” said Gowdy discussing Clinton’s email press conference. “When you are a habitual, serial liar, in this facet of life, it tends to make people not believe you in other facets of life.' ” . . .

Byron York: Hillary Clinton BleachBits her past  . . . "Amid growing controversy over the Clinton Foundation, possible conflicts of interest, and allegations of access and pay-to-play, Gowdy's words served to return the focus to what the New York Times' Mark Landler recently called the "original sin" of the Clinton email affair: Clinton took it upon herself to decide which of her emails as Secretary of State would be preserved, and which would be destroyed." . . .Byron York

Time: Hillary Clinton’s Reaction to Her Foundation Scandal Is Disastrous  Pro-Democrat Time magazine gives Hillary loving advice on how to help herself win. Much more Hillary-friendly than this next:

New revelations show a nation for sale under Hillary Clinton
Hillary claims running the State Department gave her the experience and temperament necessary to be president. But if anything, it reminds us of the Clintons’ propensity for scandal and dishonesty. And if Clinton wins this year, she’ll become the most ethically compromised president in contemporary times. Perhaps ever.
The Clinton Foundation’s Global Bribery and Crony Access Scam
"Prostituting the State Department isn’t a sly joke—it’s unethical, it’s a national disgrace and it’s probably criminal. It will take a special prosecutor to evaluate the criminality because the Obama Administration is culturally and ethically incapable of conducting an investigation. Attorney General Loretta Lynch is totally compromised by the Clintons. The late June 2016 meeting in Phoenix between Lynch and Bill Clinton followed by FBI Director Comey’s sell out of the law proved that."

Investors Business Daily: The Clinton Foundation’s Global Bribery and Crony Access Scam   "Prostituting the State Department isn’t a sly joke—it’s unethical, it’s a national disgrace and it’s probably criminal. It will take a special prosecutor to evaluate the criminality because the Obama Administration is culturally and ethically incapable of conducting an investigation. Attorney General Loretta Lynch is totally compromised by the Clintons. " . . .

Not covered much by the TW, but Hillary's health is an item to be discussed.  If unable to physically or mentally handle the job of President, I see her being elected as a figurehead and, well, how about this: Valerie Jarrett can be on her staff, running America behind the scenes? She already has eight years experience doing just that.

Krauthammer: The bribery standard

clinton money train
Scott Johnson at Power Line introduces Mr. Krauthammer's column with these comments:
. . . "Circumstantial evidence may or may not be enough to secure a bribery conviction supported by evidence proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt in a criminal case, but it nevertheless constitutes powerful evidence of corruption outside the courtroom. Schweizer presents a lot of it in the case of the Clintons. At the least it warrants mention and consideration in the context of the new evidence of Clinton corruption revealed in the past few days."

Charles Krauthammer
"It's a sorry standard. And right now it is Hillary Clinton's saving grace."
Sen. Bernie Sanders famously said in a debate he was sick of hearing about Hillary Clinton’s emails. He failed to understand that Clinton scandals are complex. They grow and burrow.

"Bernie Sanders never understood the epic quality of the Clinton scandals. In his first debate, he famously dismissed the email issue, it being beneath the dignity of a great revolutionary to deal in things so tawdry and straightforward.
"Sanders failed to understand that Clinton scandals are sprawling, multilayered, complex things. They defy time and space. They grow and burrow." . . .
. . . "The real question wasn't classification but: Why did she have a private server in the first place? She obviously lied about the purpose. It wasn't convenience. It was concealment. What exactly was she hiding?
"Was this merely the prudent paranoia of someone who habitually walks the line of legality? After all, if she controls the server, she controls the evidence, and can destroy it — as she did 30,000 emails — at will.
"But destroy what? Remember: She set up the system before even taking office. It's clear what she wanted to protect from scrutiny: Clinton Foundation business." . . .

The downgrade of the media

What ever happened to the desire of journalism students to report with integrity? How did the mainstream press allow themselves to be "tyrannized into homogeneity"

Political Cartoons by Chip Bok

The mainstream media has chosen to commit suicide. . . . "My only quibble with Michael [Goodwin]* is that I doubt that the MSM had much credibility before it began its ambush of Trump, though for a certitude it has now gone beyond the point of no return. As he says, the MSM’s “reputations will likely never recover, nor will the standards. No future producer, editor, reporter or anchor can be expected to meet a test of fairness when that standard has been trashed in such willful and blatant fashion.” This is a historic moment. Mainstream Americans will continue their migration to the Internet. That is their alternative and in using it they will continue the steady bankruptcy of the news organizations of MSM.
"Their abandonment of the standards for fairness and accuracy is completely willful." . . .
The MSM is aroused by Trump’s words but unbothered about actions that Clinton has actually taken. They seem to think that Trump’s misfired jokes or loosely formulated statements are more dangerous to the commonweal than Clinton’s decisions with her e-mails and her mendacious cover-ups.  Emphasis added.
*American journalism is collapsing before our eyes  . . . "The shameful display of naked partisanship by the elite media is unlike anything seen in modern America." . . .

Mob Attacks , er..."harshly confronts" Trump Supporters, Burns U.S. Flag   " 'Video filmed by the Minneapolis Star-Tribune is simply revolting. It shows supporters being terrorized. But the newspaper dismissed the facts in its own video and said the Trump supporters were just “harshly confronted.'”
"This video at another occasion shows the news cameraman setting up his shot with the protester:"

"Tom Coburn wasn’t having any of Chuck Todd’s bias. The former Republican Senator appeared on MSNBC, Thursday, to discuss Hillary Clinton’s speech on the so-called alt-right movement. After Todd repeatedly pushed Todd on Republican connections to extremism, Coburn called out the network’s liberal spin: “That's just like saying if somebody hires you, Chuck, and NBC's viewpoint, politically, is far left anyway, so, therefore, it’s bad because you work for [NBC].' ”   Emphasis in the original

Politico’s Attack On GOP Candidate Shows What’s Wrong With Media   Brief outline of the column being quoted:

"Here’s why Caputo’s distemperate performance doesn’t look as good as he seems to fervently believe."

1) Uneven savageness against powerful

2) A political reporter should not be a campaign operative.

3) Uncivil defensiveness

4) Cross your t’s and dot your i’s

Ouch: British political party calls Hillary Clinton ‘Islam’s whore’ (Follow-up)

“ 'America and the free world have no place for conduits for Muhammed,” he added.  “It’s now imperative to keep Islam’s Whore out of the White House.”
At least Russo didn’t call Hillary, “Mrs. Clinton,” a term that some on the left have determined to be “sexist” and therefore, a doubleplus ungood thoughtcrime…"

Joe Newby  "On Tuesday, Liberty GB, a group calling itself “Britain’s most outspoken political party,” posted an article by REELTalkRadio show host Audrey Russo that minced no words in its harsh criticism of Democratic Party nominee Hillary Clinton.  So sharp was his criticism that Russo headlined his piece, “Hillary Clinton: Islam’s Whore.”
"Russo starts by calling Clinton “the most corrupt politician to run for the White House.”  And, he adds, that’s “before ever being elected.”
"He then called out the so-called “mainstream media,” known here as the “Democrat-media complex,” for giving her cover throughout the campaign." . . .
. . . "As we recently noted, Clinton reportedly promised Islamic countries that the federal government would intimidate Americans who speak out or criticize Islam.
"Last year, she also claimed that Muslims have “nothing whatsoever” to do with terrorism."

Late-Night Comics Have Hillary's Back. Again

PJ Media

. . . "That won't do for Trevor Noah, Seth Meyers, Samantha Bee, Stephen Colbert, John Oliver, Bill Maher and recently axed late nighter Larry Wilmore.

"They're with Her, and they want you to know it.

"Most late-night hosts wear their liberalism with pride. Being partisan isn't enough in 2016. Now, they're actively campaigning for Clinton and mocking Donald Trump at every opportunity.

"Trump is begging for such treatment, to be fair. The lies. The vicious smears. The word salad. The flip flops that make Secretary of State John Kerry look statesman-like by comparison." . . ,

Black Lives Matter Cost Univ. of Missouri 2,200 Students

Image: Daily Caller: Black Lives Matter Cost Univ. of Missouri 2,200 Students

"Enrollment at the University of Missouri's Columbia campus is down more than 2,200 students this year — including a drop of at least 1,400 freshmen — and the lower numbers appear to be the result of fallout from the Black Lives Matter movement, The Daily Caller says.

" 'It's not hard to find the cause of the school's woes," the Caller's Blake Neff writes, noting that last year, a black activist group called Concerned Student 1950 claimed the school was rife with racism and demanded MU president Thomas Wolfe's ouster.
. . .
"[ 'The University of Missouri] rapidly became identified with a new, more vigorous brand of disruptive campus activism bolstered by the Black Lives Matter movement. Evidently, that reputation is causing thousands of students to stay far away.' "

Joe Biden apologizes to Turkey for U.S. Constitution

Joe Newby   "On Wednesday, Vice President Joe Biden essentially apologized to Turkey for President Obama’s inability to unilaterally extradite a man the Turkish government blames for the recent coup.  He did, however, promise that the regime would do all it can to cooperate with the Turkish government.
"Biden claimed that the rule of law is a foundational principle of both Turkish and American societies.
“Gulen, Mr. Prime Minister, I understand the intense feeling your government and the people of Turkey have about him. We are cooperating. We are cooperating with Turkish authorities. Our legal experts are working right now with their Turkish counterparts on the production of and the evaluation of material and evidence that needs to be supplied to an American court to meet the requirements under our law in the Extradition Treaty to extradite Gulen. And we’re going to continue to do so as you continue to bring forward additional information. We have no, no, no, no interest whatsoever in protecting anyone who has done harm to an ally. None. But we need to meet the legal standard requirement under our law.”
"He wasn’t finished bowing and scraping." . . .
