The Gathering Cloud of Political Madness; This is a way station on the rockslide of the Trump-hate myth.

 Conrad Black

No greater gift to herd immunity from the COVID family of viruses could have been sought or imagined. Yet it is being used to justify a renewed campaign to transform Americans into a nation of cowardly, paranoid, and hypochondriacal moles.

"The year is ending in an increasing cloud of political madness. The January 6 commission and Trump-hating nightly media commentators professed to find in the fact that Donald Trump’s family and Fox News Trump personalities Laura Ingraham and Sean Hannity warned the then-president of backlash if he didn’t take a strong line against the trespassing and vandalism at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, proof that the melee was a pre-planned insurrection and that Trump’s complaints of election fraud were unfounded. (It confirms merely that like almost everyone, they disapproved of the attack on the Capitol, but did not deny Trump’s and his law-abiding supporters’ grievance.)

"Hillary Clinton choked back tears and sobs last week as she read the victory statement she had prepared to give on election night in 2016. The most inappropriately named person in the Western world, Joy Reid, accused Elon Musk of cultural theft against the African-American community by referring to Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) as “Karen”—the one-word summary of airheaded, self-indulgent, and overprivileged white women often used in black culture. Woke black America has now taken ownership of the English language, as well as the right to smash and grab, and otherwise steal what they want.

"Joe Biden and the Democrats are embarking on a new campaign of terror over the Omicron variant, (“a winter of . . . death” for the unvaccinated), which is, in fact, a Christmas blessing. There are fewer than 10 fatalities reported in the entire world as a result of this new variant on COVID. It is like a conventional flu, except that 90 percent of the people afflicted have mild or no symptoms and all of those afflicted benefit from the reinforcement their immune systems are getting against all variants of the disease. No greater gift to herd immunity from the COVID family of viruses could have been sought or imagined. Yet it is being used to justify a renewed campaign to transform Americans into a nation of cowardly, paranoid, and hypochondriacal moles." . . .    What can be said about Joe that does not apply to Hillary Clinton?

A simple question about Build Back Better: What’s in it for West Virginia?

A simple question about Build Back Better: What’s in it for West Virginia?  By Charles Lane    "Here’s a quick review of American politics 101: Congressional districts elect one member of the House of Representatives each; states elect two senators each. House members represent their districts; senators, their states.

"In those governmental units, groups that speak out, often based on economic interests, get the most attention from politicians. Otherwise, the latter may have trouble getting reelected.

"Elementary as they are, the above concepts bear repeating because at the moment quite a few people in Washington, Democrats especially, have completely forgotten them.

"Or so it would seem, judging by the fury being vented at Sen. Joe Manchin III (D-W.Va.) after he said he will not support the $2.4 trillion Build Back Better bill. Manchin stands accused by Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) of a “lack of integrity.” Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) said Manchin “doesn’t have the courage to do the right thing.”

"What Manchin is actually guilty of — if anything — is representing his state, including, to some extent, its special interests." . . .

The Daunte Wright NYT Readers Don't Know

 Ann Coulter

As for the trial of Kim Potter, the officer who shot Wright, neither the prosecution nor defense disputes that it was a mistake, that she thought she was holding her Taser. Several officers, and the defense's use-of-force expert, testified that Potter would have been fully justified in shooting Wright in order to protect the other officer from being dragged by the car.

"They're doing it again. The New York Times is aggressively hiding relevant facts on a matter of public interest simply in order to promote the narrative of black victimhood.

"OK, we didn't get away with it last time, but we probably will this time. Let's try!

"Daunte Wright is the half-black man fatally shot by a police officer in Minnesota earlier this year. According to Nexis, he has appeared in well over 100 articles in the Times.  But one thing Times readers will never be told is that Wright was facing criminal charges for trying to choke a woman to death while robbing her at gunpoint.

"They will also never hear about the lawsuit accusing Wright and an accomplice of shooting a guy during a carjacking.

"In a bold departure from customary practice, the Times did make two passing references to another lawsuit claiming Wright shot a guy in the head, permanently disabling him, but in both cases, quickly added: "The lawsuit offers no direct evidence tying Mr. Wright to the shooting."

"And those are just the crimes he's accused of committing lately, during the brief year and a half since he turned 18 and was no longer treated as a juvenile. When it comes to Wright's legal problems, the Times didn't even pull its usual trick of putting all the interesting information in paragraph 20.

"These grisly allegations, as set forth in police reports and lawsuits, have been completely, 100% censored from the Newspaper of Record.

"This isn't a genteel refusal to "put the victim on trial." Wright's short but exciting criminal record is highly relevant to the convulsions this country has been going through since George Floyd's death at the hands of the police in 2020 -- convulsions painstakingly fostered by the Times.

"Contrary to the media's black victimhood narrative, there's a very good reason Wright was in a position to be confronted by the police and in a way that most people are not." . . .

Joe Biden, the brains behind America and the free world?

The madness of King Brandon  "Less than one year since he assumed office, Joe Biden has managed to turn his presidency into a deeply unpopular monarchy.  No longer is he the genial but generally harmless buffoon who entertained most of us while he was in Congress with his mispronunciations, misquotes, and embellished tales of dubious authenticity.  As a result of the 2020 presidential election that was, at best, questionable, Biden was elevated well past his ability, and he proceeded to wreck virtually everything he touched as leader of the free world.

"On his first day in office, via executive order, Biden closed the Keystone pipeline for no other reason than a spiteful rebuke of President Trump's energy independence program.  It was a hare-brained sop to his fellow environmentalist lunatics who believed that this gesture would somehow "heal the planet" and reduce the phantom scourge of climate change.  How that was supposed to make a difference is anybody's guess.  It did, however, immediately succeed in reducing the supply of petroleum to our nation and raising the price of consumer gasoline and oil, as well as transporting goods.  Great start there, Joe!" . . .

Manchin shows Biden's dangerous  . . ."Now Manchin is a sharp guy, but come on. Biden is the president, and he calls the shots. He -- not his staff -- gave Kamala the cold shoulder at Bob Dole's funeral. He -- not the generals -- surrendered Afghanistan. He -- not liberals in Congress -- demanded socialism and green energy nonsense stay in the BBB bill." . . .

Joe Biden: demented idiot or crazy like a fox? . . ."Biden has proven to be a very adept criminal mastermind. For decades, he has funneled millions of dollars to his children and siblings and, especially, to his debauched, deviant son, Hunter." . . .

Well, if Joe is indeed a genius, America has become a nation controlled by idiots from somewhere or other. What does Neil Kinnock have to say about Joe? (Being a socialist himself, he may still like Joe, if not respect him). TD

Biden’s Pentagon continues its crackdown on conservatives in the ranks

The wise and/or paranoid among us believe that those new rules are an effort to clear the ranks of conservatives, especially Trump supporters (and, I bet, DeSantis supporters).

The Biden Administration’s Truly Ominous Christmas Wish List for America

Is Hillary Clinton Suggesting Civil War?

American Thinker "The other day, in an interview with NBC News, Hillary Clinton went public with a warning -- or was it a dog whistle to Democrats and the left?  It might be an instance of Hillary’s mouth running ahead of her brain, but don’t count on it.  Hillary is a coldly calculating woman -- and that might be one of her better qualities.

"Hillary suggested that if Trump or “someone of his ilk” is elected president in 2024, then American democracy is kaput.  Foolishness?  Knowing the conceits and delusions that infect her intended audience, her suggestion might not seem ludicrous.  Hillary’s side listens to her, so her words carry weight.

"From National Review, December 13:

“I think that could be the end of our democracy,” [Hillary] said. “Not too be too pointed about it, but I want people to understand that this could be a make-or-break point. If he or someone of his ilk were once again to be elected president, especially if he had a Congress that would do his bidding, you will not recognize our country.” . . .

Thomas Sowell on the Current Black Culture

Dr. Sowell warns against the race hustlers who keep blacks down and in poverty just for the enrichment of the Sharpton's, Jacksons, Waters and any number of Soros-supported public officials. TD

Hallmark Channel has gone "WOKE"

Having long noticed the regrettable absence of black actors in most Hallmark shows, the addition of them is appreciated by TD. But having said that, Hallmark was our refuge from indoctrination, a place of calm and peace away from those who would control our thoughts and opinions. Every source of nostalgia and appreciation for pleasant memories is threatened by the woke-ness monsters. TD

Hallmark commits to ‘LGBTQ storylines,’ caves to left-wing pressure  "The channel known for its wholesome entertainment is following Hollywood's lead by committing to offer 'woke' content."

July 22, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) – One of television’s last refuges from identity politics will soon be no more, as the Hallmark Channel announced it will add homosexual and/or transgender stories to its film slate.

And now in December we see we are overflowing with "woke" content.

From Russia Today: Surrendering to the ‘woke army’? Hallmark apologizes after pulling ad featuring same-sex wedding  The Russian site quite typically called the Hallmark movies "corny".

. . ."The ad showed two women tying the knot, leading to accusations that the network had besmirched its “family-friendly” programming. Perhaps naively believing it could avoid a scandal, Hallmark relented and pulled the ad.

"It wasn’t long before activists from the opposite side of the political spectrum grabbed their pitchforks. The move infuriated LGBTQ activists and their ‘woke’ allies on Twitter, who bombarded the channel with angry comments and accusations of bigotry.". . .

The Hallmark Channel Fell Into the ‘Woke’ Trap and Now Nobody Is Merry   "The cable network changes its stance on playing a “gay commercial” and it leads to bad-tidings.

"It has become an annual holiday tradition in this country: The cable network The Hallmark channel releases an avalanche of Christmas-themed movies and various reactionaries have to come out with contemptuous commentary about these offerings. They have been accused of being Red State pandering agitprop, of being Trumpian nightmare fantasies, and — of course — inherently racist entertainment." . . .  Isn't everything "racist"?

Who are the people complaining about Hallmark not being "inclusive" and bringing these changes about? These will be a good start:

‘Change the damn channel!’ Miserable woke movie critics gripe over ‘toxic masculinity’ in Christmas classics  "Some never-satisfied wokesters are reportedly trying to cancel, at least rhetorically, some retroactively “problematic” (to use one of the left’s favorite words) holiday movies that families across America traditionally gather around during Christmas to watch together.

"The much-beloved and inspirational 1946 film It’s a Wonderful Life with James Stewart and Donna Reed apparently has not avoided condemnation. Referring to Stewart’s lead character, “George Bailey was an emotionally-abusive and a manipulative misogynist,” one Twitter user claimed."

"Another lamented the lack of diversity in Bedford Falls, the fictional location of what is considered one of the greatest movies of all time." . . .

Others that are supposedly not measuring up to woke criteria are The Santa Clause starring Tim Allen (1994), now deemed too fat-phobic . . .

2nd Edition of the Idiot of the Year Awards

 American Spectator

"I adore repeat idiot offenders. I don’t know, it might just be because I am one of them, but the truth is that, all through the year, I see one of them and I just can’t wait for this special day to come around again. Yes, friends, after the resounding success of The 2020 Idiot of the Year Awards, it is truly an honor to bring my friends and readers at The American Spectator, the 2nd Edition of the Idiot of the Year Awards. Remember that in the comments section you can vote for your favorite idiot or even propose new ones. It is invariably a source of great pleasure to discover that, difficult as it may seem, there is always room for one more idiot.

"These are my proposals for 2021:" . . . Below is the author's list of choices and his reasons for choosing each one:

Anthony Fauci, the world’s worst futurologist

Jen Psaki, smart woman, sometimes

Joe Biden, Grandpa, absentee

Bill Gates, neighborhood butcher

António Guterres, sinking all past prestige

Nicolás Maduro, misunderstood intellectual

Xi Jinping, Chinaman from China

BLM's Patrisse Cullors, fighting for the poor but only a bit

Nancy Pelosi, trapped in time

Jackie Calmes, censor

Pedro Castillo, friend of terrorists

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Beautiful and Rich

Kim Jong Un — Missing  "I have included him in this list of idiots just to see if anyone can help answer a question about the only communist leader who looks like a meatball: Is he still alive?"

Three Retired Generals Loudly Demand A Military Coup In 2024

I understand their contempt for those running this nation, but something like this could make our stable  nation - for two centuries - become just another tin-pot banana republic that investors would stand clear of. TD

Obama also purged the military of any flag rank officer not reliably progressive, a process Andrea Widburg document at her blog and at American Thinker (here and here). Those who remain today are nothing but progressive race hustlers, such as the odious Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, or traitorous politicians in uniform, such as General Mark “white rage” Milley.

American Thinker  "Democrats claim that democracy is under attack in America and Democrats must act decisively to protect it. They’ve been trying to end the filibuster, nationalize voting, and pack the Supreme Court. The most ominous “fix,” which hinges on the myth of a “January 6 Insurrection,” sees retired generals argue that the military must purge the ranks of Trump supporters and prepare for a military coup to block a future contested election. This is unconstitutional, illegal, and spells the end of American democracy.

"Victor Davis Hanson notes that leftists are loudly worrying about democracy’s end while ignoring all they’ve done to end democracy, such as bringing in millions of illegal aliens, many of whom are being given the vote; destroying centuries-old governing traditions such as the filibuster; packing the court; ending the Electoral College; and more.

If Democrats can kill the Senate filibuster (and Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema is the only thing stopping them, not the craven Senator Mitch McConnell), they have the unfettered ability to enshrine vote fraud and pack the Supreme Court. The latter move spells the final—and deeply unconstitutional—progressive rewrite of our Constitution, and ends our constitutional republic.

"The wild card in all of this, though, is what would the military do if, in fact, the progressives were able to achieve these goals (or even if they weren’t). Three retired officers have signaled that they want to purge the military of Trump supporters, and then plan a takeover of the military and related federal agencies that coordinate with the military to effect a coup in 2024. Considering the current state of the Pentagon, this may be more than a progressive fantasy.

"Thirty years ago, when I was a U.S. Army Infantry Officer, our military was unquestionably a politically neutral, colorblind institution. It was the single most well-integrated institution in our nation and, indeed, was the primary engine integrating our nation.  But progressives have done everything they can to turn the military into a dysfunctional machine warped by racial, sexual, and gender identity divisions. This began with Obama, who injected the toxic myth of white supremacy and the tenets of critical race theory." . . .

A patient at a care facility was in cardiac arrest. Paramedics refused to enter, citing covid restrictions.

Jaclyn Peiser  "When the police officer entered a room at a southern California care facility last month, he found a panicked nurse performing chest compressions on a patient, body-camera footage shows. The patient was in cardiac arrest, and the staff did not have the proper equipment to help, according to a police report.

"But just outside the entrance of the building stood paramedics equipped with possible lifesaving tools. They had refused to cross the threshold, claiming it was against state covid rules, according to the report.

"So the officer jumped into action, helping the staff push the bed, which was not on wheels, through the building and out the front door to the first responders from the Rialto Fire Department.

"The patient, who has not been identified by authorities, was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.". . .

. . ."A second employee pleaded for help and said they were providing CPR and "could not move the patient and disrupt the rescue effort," Ballew wrote in his report.

" 'You are doing the same thing we would have to do if we went in," one of the fire personnel said, according to Ballew. "So, hurry up and bring him out so we can help."

"Ballew said one of the first responders then turned to him and said if the care center staff did not like the policy, they "should call their congressman," the report states. " . . .

Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s Theory of Stupidity

 Bookworm Room

I was not familiar with Bonhoeffer’s Theory of Stupidity, so I found this video fascinating and thought-provoking.

"A friend sent me this video about Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s Theory of Stupidity, a theory Bonhoeffer developed after being imprisoned for speaking out about Germany’s turn to Naziism. I found it fascinating and thought-provoking:"

"Here’s something else to think about, though. I noticed how careful the video was to avoid saying that it was Jews who were being attacked and persecuted. Therefore, I wonder about the political orientation of the people behind Sprouts, the company that made this video." . . .

. . ."That, of course, led me to another thought. We conservatives look at the increasingly totalitarian left, with its racial and sexual obsessions, anti-Semitism, militarization of the government, determination to exert complete control over all Americans, and manifest efforts to punish anyone who doesn’t fall in line, and we think “It’s the Nazis all over again (or the communists, or the Mullahs, or the military juntas, or any other totalitarian dictatorship).”

"With that thought in mind, it’s very easy for a conservative to see American leftists as the morally stupid people Bonhoeffer described. This is especially true given that they live entirely within a slogan-filled bubble that insulates them in a world of leftist values. Their media, movies, educational institutions, technology: It’s all a carefully curated narrative that ensures that leftists don’t have to analyze facts or ideas that are antithetical to their belief system." . . .

Young voters abandon Biden

Naomi Lim, White House Reporter  "Younger people have become disenchanted with President Joe Biden, the septuagenarian rapidly losing support with the demographic that was wary of him during the 2020 Democratic primary.

"On average, fewer than 3 in 10 adults under the age of 30 approve of Biden's job performance as president, and a majority disapproves, according to online polling conducted by the Economist and YouGov. Biden's net negative 21 approval rating with the demographic is his worst among any age group, the organizations found. On top of that, Biden has a net negative 17 rating among people aged between 30 and 44.

"The Economist-YouGov findings suggest Biden's popularity is dropping fastest with younger people, who earlier this year rewarded him with a net 32 approval rating. Biden currently has a negative 5 rating among adults aged 45 to 64, and a negative 8 with those 65 and older.

"The Economist-YouGov polling is not an outlier, aligning with Quinnipiac University data. In Quinnipiac's first national survey of Biden's presidency in February, 18- to 34-year-olds gave him a net 12 approval rating while he scored a net 15 rating from 35- to 49-year-olds. That plummeted to a net negative 10 among the former and a negative 21 with the latter last month. . ."

What about Bruce Springsteen's recommendation?
