DOONESBURY'S CREATOR TURNS TO VICTIM-BLAMING

Astute Bloggers
"Garry Trudeau, veteran cartoonist of Doonesbury, blames the late contributors of Charlie Hebdo for the horror they went through:
Less than four months after Islamic fanatics stormed the Paris offices of the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo and butchered 12, while accepting the George Polk career award Friday, left-wing cartoonist Garry Trudeau blasted the dead with the claim that they had “wandered into the realm of hate speech.” He also added that “free speech… becomes its own kind of fanaticism.”
Without irony, after punching 12 of his dead colleagues, the creator of “Doonesbury” said that a cartoonist’s job is to “punch up” not down.

What Trudeau fails or chooses not to understand is that rebellion is not hate speech. Charlie Hebdo was not gratuitously mocking Mohammed or Jesus Christ or the Pope. For the cause of free speech, Charlie Hebdo was pushing back against what it rightly saw as creeping fascism, especially Islamic fascism, in the most blatant and in-your-face way possible.
"Trudeau has really scraped the barrel's bottom this time. I used to read Doonesbury years ago, but largely lost interest around 1995, and after learning what a screwball Trudeau's become, it's harder and harder to get interested in his long-running strip again. He must wear an ear-covering helmet more impenetrable than B.D's football helmet. Making matters worse, one of the New York Times' leading staffers is defending Trudeau's journey off the deep end. His own comic strip's long lost any relevance thanks to his plummet. I think it's about time he retire it for good. It probably didn't even have much cultural value in the first place."

The Daily Caller is a bit more blunt: Garry Trudeau Craps On The Corpses Of Charlie Hebdo. . . " Normally, Trudeau’s tedious, hamfisted harangues run the gamut: conservatives, people who hold conservative views, Republicans, right-wingers, and anybody who isn’t a liberal. And now he’s branching out to attack a whole new set of targets: left-wing atheists who were butchered at their desks by religious zealots." . . .

150 years later: Remembering the Lincoln assassination

CNN

"On April 14, 1865, an actor and Confederate sympathizer named John Wilkes Booth shot President Abraham Lincoln at Ford's Theatre in Washington. The following morning, less than a week after the end of the Civil War, Lincoln would become the first American president killed in office.                                             "It was the crime of the 19th century. Booth fled the building and, along with co-conspirator David Herold, evaded the authorities for nearly two weeks. Booth was shot and killed during capture in Virginia on April 26."

Read Original Associated Press Report of Lincoln's Assassination  "On the night Abraham Lincoln was shot, April 14, 1865, Associated Press correspondent Lawrence Gobright scrambled to report from the White House, the streets of the stricken capital, and even from the blood-stained box at Ford's Theatre, where, in his memoir he reports he was handed the assassin's gun and turned it over to authorities. Here is an edited version of his original AP dispatch:" . . .

. . . "By the way, Hillary's new logo really is terrible. If this were a design class, and the assignment were to make a logo for Hillary, I would think the teacher would get mad at a student who handed in that one. What, did you spend one minute on the assignment? You just did the most obvious thing, the letter H, the colors blue and read, and an arrow, the most cliché logo element possible?! An arrow to signify moving forward! That's what you came up with?"

"Hillary Clinton’s video was very slight on specifics and she appears in less than a quarter of the video.
"But what does appear is a bunch of people talking about proud they are of themselves and proud to vote for Hillary.
"Up first is Jared Milrad.  Seems legit enough at first.  Gay couple that doesn’t wanna be hassled by the man.

5 Hillary Quotes That Foreshadow Disaster

 Liberty Conservatives
"As a nation, if we only learned one thing while having Barack Obama as president for two terms, I hope that it’s to make sure, in the future, we properly vet our presidential candidates. We took a man that we knew very little about, with very little political experience and a questionable past, and we made him the most powerful man in the world based on the promise of “hope and change”. Now, as we approach the end of Obama’s presidency, we see a very real possibility of Hillary Clinton being the next Democrat candidate. While many might say that we know much more about Hillary, I would argue that we know what the MSM has pushed our way and not really the true “Hillary”. There are many quotes that the former first lady has said publicly over her last several decades in the public eye, but the following five I feel shed light on who this woman really is. She will lead us into an age of collectivism unlike any we have seen in the USA. She is the most “big government” politician the USA has seen and she will attempt to enact policies that make Obama look just “slightly left of center”." Excerpts:
1. “We must stop thinking about the individual and start thinking about what is best for society.” . . .

2. “There are rich people everywhere, and yet they don’t contribute to the growth of their countries.” . . .

3. “Europe is a miracle.” . . .

4. “It’s true that America can’t solve every problem, but I don’t know of any major problem in the world that can be solved without us.” . . .

5. “Don’t let anybody tell you it’s corporations and businesses create jobs. You know that old theory, ‘trickle-down economics.’ That has been tried, that has failed. It has failed rather spectacularly.” . . .  Full article

David Limbaugh: "Why Hillary's candidacy doesn't worry me"

David Limbaugh has several reasons Clinton is 'a terrible' White House wannabe
Hillary Launches Campain
http://comicallyincorrect.com/2015/04/13/hillary-launches-campaign/
David Limbaugh  "Why is Hillary such a terrible candidate, you ask? Let me count the ways, in no particular order, as many of them vie for top seating.
  • Her main qualification is she believes it’s her turn; she’s entitled. It’s not about what she can do for her country; it’s about what her country owes her.
  • Obama has been a dreadful president. Our economy and foreign policy are both in tatters. Our health-care situation is barely managed anarchy. America’s fiscal position, now and projected, is abysmal. People are out of work in record numbers. And never have Americans been more polarized.
  • Obama’s record necessarily taints Hillary Clinton for multitudinous reasons. Her husband’s enthusiastic defense of Obama at the Democratic convention may have saved his presidency. Whatever policy differences the Clintons had with Obama, they effectively buried them there. If that weren’t enough, Hillary was an integral part of Obama’s administration as secretary of state, where she not only embraced his regrettable foreign policy but also contributed to making it worse. Though certain news reports alleged Hillary didn’t agree with Obama on isolated policies, she has been vocally supportive of his policies when speaking on her own behalf, from Obamacare to Israel to “women’s rights.”

David's brother Rush isn't too worked up at present either . . . " RUSH: Saturday Night Live.  I didn't see it, but Saturday Night Live apparently ripped Hillary to shreds in a skit, in an opening skit.  I don't know what about. I don't know what the details were. I just read that it happened.  I don't know that it means anything.  I know a lot of people are going to write that it does.  A lot of people are gonna say, "Hey, you know what?  Saturday Night Live, no conservative show that, and if they start ripping into Mrs. Clinton, that's pop culture, a lot of young people watch Saturday Night Live."

Alan Caruba; Avoiding Hillary Misery

"While we endure the daily lies of President Obama, do we really want to have another four to eight years more of Hillary Clinton’s? It’s not like we don’t have ample evidence of her indifference to the truth and that is not what America wants in a President, now or ever.

"The office has already been degraded to a point where neither our allies nor our enemies trusts anything Obama says. Do we really want to continue a process that could utterly destroy our nation?

Political Cartoons by Jerry Holbert

"Hillary Clinton’s announcement that she intends to run for President is predicated not on any achievements in her life beyond having married Bill Clinton. Instead, her message is that America needs a woman as President. Having already elected an abject failure because he was black, one can only hope and pray that enough voters will conclude that America needs to avoid race or gender to be the determining factor.

"In 1974 the 27-year old Hillary was fired from a committee related to the Watergate investigation. Jerry Zeifman, a lifelong Democrat, supervised her and when the investigation was over, he fired her and refused to give her a letter of recommendation. When asked why, he said, “Because she was a liar. She was an unethical, dishonest lawyer. She conspired to violate the Constitution, the rules of the House, the rules of the committee, and the rules of confidentiality.'” . . .

"Noonan had earlier written a book about Hillary. “As I researched I remembered why, four years into the Clinton administration, the New York Times columnist William Safire called Hillary ‘a congenital liar…compelled to mislead, and to ensnare her subordinates and friends in a web of deceit.’”

“ 'Do we have to go through all that again?” asked Noonan. “A generation or two ago, a person so encrusted in a reputation for scandal would not be considered a possible presidential contender. She would be ineligible. Now she is inevitable.”

"Well, maybe not inevitable. We have a long time to go until the primaries arrive and then the election. We have enough time to ask ourselves if we live in a republic where merit, integrity, and honesty are still the standards by which we select our President."

Welllll, back in 2012 the story was:  Barack Obama's Global Job Approval Down Sharply, Poll Says  . . . See the transcript and video below:" . . .

. . . "THE LEADER OF THE FREE WORLD – you know, the chickens--t one — rescues his people when they are held hostage – PERSONALLY rescues them – and stands arm in arm with world leaders against the endless, savage, Islamic murders of Jews and all civilized people.

"THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES goes golfing while hostages are being murdered – PERSONALLY goes golfing – and will not so much say the words “Islamic Terrorists” or “Jews” as our time for chickens--t posturing and preening runs out as fast as the nuclear centrifuges spinning in Iran."

Bill & Hillary Clinton: A Life of Violating People  . . . "Hillary is a street criminal who thinks it is perfectly OK to send thugs over to beat and nearly murder Gary Johnson, Gennifer Flowers’ neighbor, (6-26-92) because he had videotapes of Bill often entering Gennifer’s condominium. Hillary is a serial perjurer who says she did not give orders to fire the White House Travel Office in 1993, even though David Watkins later said Hillary said to “fire their asses” and he wrote a memo saying there would be “hell to pay” if they Travel Office was not fired immediately.

"Hillary is a misogynist and phony “feminist” – like Bill – who thinks that Bill’s victims and girlfriends are “sluts,” “whores,” and “bitches.” Hillary hires a secret police like Anthony Pellicano (now in jail) and Jack Palladino to intimidate and terrify these victims and girls into silence. Hillary would rather protect and enable her rapist husband Bill than send him to jail." . . .

. . . "She’s been on the national stage for a quarter-century, though because of all the drama, it feels like we’ve lived through several lifetimes with her. Along the way, she’s reinvented herself more often than Madonna. While the spectacle of an aging hoofer trying to keep up with the kids is riveting, the kicks aren’t what they used to be and the odor of desperation is unavoidable."
. . .
"The real issue is Clinton fatigue, a national exhaustion from having been-there-done-that too many times. Her husband’s popularity counts for something, but she’s already milked that cow dry.
She’s got to make a case that goes beyond just wanting the Oval Office. She’s got to earn it and I’m not sure she can.

"Here’s another blast from the past — Monica Lewinsky is 41 and wants to reclaim her identity, making her a potential bombshell that could explode without notice.
. . .
"That bad run of experiences could have forged her character into something admirable, but her performance so far has been a disaster. Instead of re-emerging as a smarter and more focused force rejuvenated by defeat and exile, she seems to have learned nothing and changed not a whit."

The tough questions Hillary faces as candidate". . . Camille Paglia had this to say about a Clinton candidacy: “[H]illary does not have it. Hillary is a mess. And we’re going to reward the presidency to a woman who’s enabled the depredations and exploitation of women by that cornpone husband of hers? The way feminists have spoken makes us blind to Hillary’s record of trashing [women]. They were going to try to destroy Monica Lewinsky. It’s a scandal. Anyone who believe in sexual harassment guidelines should have seen that the disparity of power between Clinton and Monica Lewinsky was one of the most grotesque ever in the history of sex crime. He’s a sex criminal. We’re going to put that guy back in the White House? Hillary’s ridden on his coattails. This is not a woman who has her own career, who’s made her own career! The woman who failed the bar exam in Washington. The only reason she went to Arkansas and got a job in the Rose law firm was because her husband was a politician.”

Is Hillary Clinton a Husband Beater? . . . " Last week a new book about life behind the scenes at the White House included reports that Hillary Clinton physically attacked her husband on other occasions.

Silvio Canto, Jr. calls her a "Phony"  ". . . A President Hillary Clinton could be better at hammering out deals with lawmakers (of both parties) than President Obama has been. She would almost certainly try harder.

"But to what end? For someone who has been on the national stage for a quarter-century, her beliefs are strangely hard to pin down." . .  .

On shooting fleeing suspects

. . . "A commenter on my blog asked whether the hue and cry that has resulted means that “if you can run away from a cop, you can get away with any crime because any effort to stop your pursuit using a weapon is unlawful and wrong?”

"No, but unless some very unusual mitigating information emerges, this was too much firepower considering the offense and the situation surrounding it.

"But don’t take my word for it; here are the rules:
The Supreme Court held in a 1989 case, Graham v. Connor, that the appropriateness of use of force by officers “must be judged from the perspective of a reasonable officer on the scene,” rather than evaluated through 20/20 hindsight.

That standard is designed to take into account that police officers are frequently asked to make split-second decisions during fast-evolving confrontations, and should not be subject to overly harsh second guessing…

A seminal 1985 Supreme Court case, Tennessee vs. Garner, held that the police may not shoot at a fleeing person unless the officer reasonably believes that the individual poses a significant physical danger to the officer or others in the community. That means officers are expected to take other, less-deadly action during a foot or car pursuit unless the person being chased is seen as an immediate safety risk.

In other words, a police officer who fires at a fleeing man who a moment earlier murdered a convenience store clerk may have reasonable grounds to argue that the shooting was justified. But if that same robber never fired his own weapon, the officer would likely have a much harder argument.

“You don’t shoot fleeing felons. You apprehend them unless there are exigent circumstances — emergencies — that require urgent police action to safeguard the community as a whole,” said Greg Gilbertson, a police practices expert and criminal justice professor at Centralia College in Washington state.

"That’s the reason the condemnation of Slager was strong from all quarters, including from police." . . .
