American silliness Oct 15, 2015

Another massacre, another charade by Charles Krauthammer.  . . . " Nor does Obama propose any legislation. He knows none would pass. But the deeper truth is that it would have made no difference. Does anyone really believe that the (alleged) gun-show loophole had anything to do with Roseburg? Universal background checks sound wonderful. But Oregon already has one. The Roseburg shooter and his mother obtained every one of their guns legally. " . . . Put some more "Guns banned" signs up; that should do it.

Prominent San Francisco Bookstore to Close, Citing Minimum Wage Increase
"What this Means for Small Business:
San Francisco’s minimum wage increase will impact many small business owners operating under tight profit margins similar to Borderland Books. Their ability to raise prices is extremely limited,  restricting the ability of some businesses to absorb wage increases" . . .
Sponsors stepped in to keep them open

Leftist mobs' censorship . . . "Silicon Valley entrepreneur Brendan Eich created JavaScript and helped start Mozilla Firefox. But when activists discovered that he’d once donated $1,000 to support California’s Proposition 8 banning gay marriage, they attacked him as “a hater.” A year and a half later, Eich still can’t find a job." . . .

Aw: Clock Boy Now Meeting With Genocidal International War Criminals
. . . "Bashir has been accused of genocide and crimes against humanity.
ICC Prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo has presented evidence today showing that Sudanese President, Omar Hassan Ahmad AL BASHIR committed the crimes of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes in Darfur. . . .

Syrian Christians have been granted refugee status in the United States at lower rates than Syrian Muslims. It should be the opposite.

About That Aunt Suing An 8-year-old…. I would say she was victimized by yellow journalism.
“ 'Our client was very reluctant to pursue this case, but in the end she had no choice but to sue the minor defendant directly to get her bills paid. She didn’t want to do this anymore than anyone else would.” But her hand was forced by the insurance company. We are disappointed in the outcome, but we understand the verdict. Our client is being attacked on social media. Our client has been through enough.' ”

Is this a photo of Jesse James and his future assassin?

Controversy surrounds new Jesse James photo discovery

This is the photo that HPD's 33-year forensic artist Lois Gibson said shows notorious Western outlaw Jesse James and his eventual killer Robert Ford. Now expert debate rages over how to really find the answer.

"Expert debate has erupted over a photograph, identified in September by the Houston Police Department's veteran specialist in facial recognition as legendary outlaw Jesse James, seated next to his eventual killer, Robert Ford.

"James lived a life on the run from the law, and seldom sat for photos before his 1882 death. An image of him would be an exceptionally rare and valuable find, but would require a meticulous process of verification.
RELATED: Lost photo of Jesse James, assassin Robert Ford is found

"HPD's forensic artist, Lois Gibson, spent a month analyzing facial features of the men in the photo. And last week, a genealogist traced the family of the photo's owner back to the James' community in 19th Century Missouri. But even that is only the start." . . .

Did you REALLY buy every debate talking point made by the Democrat candidates?

You won't believe the price tag for all that free stuff offered by Dem candidates at the debate  "Any time you get a bunch of Democrats together in the same room, it is recommended that you grab hold of your wallet tightly and lock up the family silver. You also might want to hide your wife and daughters - just to be safe.

"The Democratic presidential candidates who took the stage for their debate on Tuesday night tried to outdo one another in rushing to give away tax dollars on wild spending schemes. How much are we talking about? The Washington Times has some thoughts:" . . .

Hillary Clinton's Take on Banks Won't Hold Up  . . . One of the most revealing exchanges in the Clinton-Sanders tilt involved the question of Wall Street corruption. Sanders has always been a passionate crusader against Wall Street perfidy, but Hillary's take on the subject was fascinating.

"Asked about it Tuesday night, she gave an answer that to me sums up her candidacy and the conundrum of the modern Democratic Party in general. She seemed to hit a lot of correct notes, while at the same time over-thinking and over-nuancing a question where a few simple unequivocal answers would probably have won everyone over.

"The key exchange began with a question from CNN's Anderson Cooper:" . . .

Hillary's 'Genocide' Lie
“ 'We deeply value the relationship between Libya and the United States,” Hillary told the press with the tall, Western-looking young man standing beside her."
. . . "When the late William Safire called Ms. Clinton a “congenital liar,” he knew whereof he spoke. Mendacity* is in Hillary’s DNA. There was no genocide in Libya, nothing close. Although I have written about the Libyan fiasco previously on these pages, the story bears repeating at least in part as Hillary has assumed full ownership of the genocide lie." . . .

*Mendacity
1. the tendency to be untruthful
2. a falsehood

Mark Steyn on The Alpha Female of a Beta-Male Debate  . . . "Nobody asked Bernie Sanders why an "independent socialist" who's never been a Democrat is running in the Democrat primary, but he could just as easily have said: "I didn't join the party, the party joined me." Last night the Democrats presented themselves [as] an openly left-wing party, to whose base Bernie's honeymoon in the Soviet Union appears far less eccentric than Jim Webb doing his Scoop Jackson routine 40 years too late." . . .

A Liberal's Ten Commandments

"To better advance their causes, liberals should follow these modest Ten Commandments to live the rather "progressive" lives that they advocate for the rest of us. "

Victor Davis Hanson
obama_ten_commandments_10-11-15-1
"The best way for liberals to advance their various causes would be to take a pledge to live the rather progressive lives that they advocate. Here are a modest Ten Commandments to lend them credibility in the eyes of the American people." . . .

"Given that these pledges do not reflect current liberal behavior, apparently abiding by them would mean that there would soon be no more liberals."

Coulter: Hispanics wouldn't vote Republican if you held a gun to their heads

"You've been conned, GOP. You are never going to beat the Democrats at sucking up to foreigners. And your conservative base will flee.
"The GOP should expend precisely as much effort fawning over the Hispanic vote as Democrats do over the gun vote, the pro-life vote and the white vote."
Ann Coulter  "At the Democratic debate on Tuesday night, Sen. Bernie Sanders bragged about getting a "D-minus" from the National Rifle Association (which was also Lincoln Chafee's GPA in high school).

"Nonetheless, Hillary Clinton attacked Sanders for having voted against an insane bill that would have held gun manufacturers and sellers legally liable for the behavior of anyone who uses one of their guns in a crime.

"I would be open to such a law -- but only after we pass a law holding psychiatrists liable for crimes committed by their patients; lawyers for crimes committed by their clients; and sanctuary cities for crimes committed by the illegal immigrants they released in violation of federal law.

"Gun dealers are a lot more careful about whom they sell guns to than psychiatrists, lawyers and sanctuary cities are about the criminals they loose on the public.

"In several recent mass shootings, the psycho was at least temporarily delayed when gun shops refused to sell him guns -- such as the Colorado gun range owner who put his whole staff on red alert in case James Holmes ever wandered in, simply on the basis of having heard Holmes' strange voicemail message.

"As Sanders himself once said, holding gun sellers liable for the crimes of their customers would be like holding "a hammer company responsible if somebody beats somebody over the head with a hammer." (As happened to Lincoln Chafee.)

"To cheers from the Democratic audience, Hillary denounced Sanders for his vote against imposing unprecedented liability on gun makers, saying, "It's time the entire country stood up against the NRA."

"Sanders bowed and scraped, finally saying he'd "take another look" at the gun bill.

"Former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley bragged about passing the strictest gun-control laws in the country (which explains why Baltimore is such a safe city). Asked which "enemy" he was proudest of, O'Malley said: "The NRA." (Loud applause -- especially from the radical Muslims in the audience!) " . . .

EU Importing Rape Culture into Europe

"While American college girls squeal about a boy daring to look at them, the EU and its subject countries are busy importing rape into Europe — violent, perverse, disease-ridden rape.  Indeed, the EU is making Europe more dangerous — significantly more dangerous — for every person imprisoned in the prettily historic cage. Pat Condell lays it on the line:"

Don't you remember the Soviet flag outside the White House on Obama's Inauguration day?

Bernie’s Strange Brew of Nationalism and Socialism
"And this is where the Bernieverse is really off-kilter, where the intellectual shallowness of the man and his followers is as impossible to miss as a winter bonfire."
. . . "But Tara Monson, a young mother who has come out to the UAW hall to support her candidate, is pretty straightforward about her issues: “Socialism,” she says. “My husband’s been trying to get me to move to a socialist country for years — but now, maybe, we’ll get it here.” The socialist country she has in mind is Norway, which of course isn’t a socialist country at all: It’s an oil emirate. Monson is a classic American radical, which is to say, a wounded teenager in an adult’s body: Asked what drew her to socialism and Bernie, she says that she is “very atheist,” and that her Catholic parents were not accepting of this. "

The Debate Lesson: America Now Has an Openly Socialist Party
"Sure, this batch of candidates sounded like a bunch of loons. They contended socialism is mostly about standing up to the richest one percent and promoting entrepreneurs and small business; climate change is the biggest national security threat facing the nation; college educations should be free for everyone; all lives don’t matter, black lives do; Obama is simultaneously an enormously successful president in managing the economy and the middle class is collapsing and there’s a need for a “New New Deal” which is in fact an Old Old Idea, considering how FDR called for a Second New Deal in 1935. The audience in Nevada applauded higher taxes, believes that Hillary Clinton doesn’t need to answer any more questions, supports the complete shutdown of the NSA domestic surveillance program, and that Obamacare benefits should be extended to illegal immigrants. There are kindergarten classes with more realistic assessments of cost-benefit tradeoffs than the crowd watching this debate at the Wynn Las Vegas." . . .

Commentary on the Democrat debate

From Taegan Goddard at Political Wire:
The Democrats are the Healthier Party   All on the same page; spending America into bankruptcy

Window Closes for Joe Biden . . . "If he was looking for a Clinton mess-up as a rationale to get into the race, he didn’t get it. What’s more, by hugging Obama as closely as she did, Hillary also closed off an important lane for Biden. " . . .

Sanders Generated Most Search Interest . . . "During the debate, Sanders continually attracted more Google interest than Trump.' ”
Political Cartoons by Lisa Benson
American Thinker:
Was Biden the biggest loser last night? . . . "So back to Joe B. If he is going to declare, he’d better do it soon. But seeing Hillary on her game, he is thinking about what his record could look like in the hands of her oppo researchers."

Bernie Sanders, Hillary's 'damned emails,' and the cheering press room

The Democratic Candidates Showed Themselves to be Lackluster and Out-of-Date  . . . "Social, economic, and foreign policy issues were discussed as though no laws addressing these concerns had been passed during the past 100 years.". . .

People's Pundit Daily:
Schultz and Clinton warned the other candidates not to harm Hillary   . . . "Though it wasn’t widely reported, Team Hillary and the Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman-Schultz put the word out to the other candidates regarding attacking the frontrunner. In short, any serious challenge to Hillary on Benghazi, the email scandal or her prior statements that proved false would not bode well for their political career. Fournier, who has repeatedly reported on Clinton’s campaigning shortfalls and crisis mismanagement, noted the candidates took the threats seriously and fell in line.

“ 'It took more than an hour before CNN’s Anderson Cooper asked Clinton about the covert email system she established as secretary of State in defiance of federal regulations, subverting the Freedom of Information Act, thwarting congressional
oversight, and jeopardizing U.S. secrets,” Fournier added. “And, even then, her chief rival offered Clinton cover.”

Weekly Standard:
Hillary Hugs Obama at Every Turn  . . . "In fact, if you look at the transcript of the debate, Obama was mentioned 34 times. The other four candidates mention Obama only a handful of times between them. Nearly every other mention of the president came from Clinton (or Cooper)." . . .

Hillary Gets Off Easy in First Debate. . . "Instead, Clinton’s Democratic opponents offered milquetoast gestures toward “new leadership” or wild-eyed calls for “political revolution.” And that gave Clinton the opportunity to turn tough questions to her into sharp criticisms of the Republicans running for president." . . .

Sanders Stumbles in Vegas Debate

Ron Fournier: Hillary won, but it won't always be this easy

Her performance was as good as it was dishonest
. . . "On the day of the debate, two stories underscored Clinton’s vulnerability.

. . . "That is Clinton’s problem. Like it was in 2008, her character is the issue that threatens to consume all others.

"The email scandal recalls questions about Clinton’s integrity that go back to the Rose Law Firm/Whitewater and the White House Travel Office. Flip-flopping on the Trans-Pacific Partnership and the Keystone XL pipeline add weight to the argument made by Democrats and Republicans alike that Clinton is a malleable opportunist.

"There are many people, including me, who know a side of Clinton that is strong (2012: “What I Learned Covering Hillary Clinton”) and compelling (2013: “Best Bet for a Third Clinton Term is If She Runs as the ‘Real Hillary’—warm, open, and honest”), which makes her actions this year shamefully inept (“Memo to Hillary: You’re Still The Problem”)." . . .

"It’s time once again for the Watcher’s Council’s ‘Weasel Of The Week’ nominations, where we pick our choices to compete for the award of  the famed Golden Weasel to a public figure  who particularly deserves to be slimed and mocked for his or her dastardly deeds during the week. Every Tuesday morning, tune in for the Weasel of the Week nominations!

"Here are this weeks’ nominees"

Let's talk about the bloodshed in Israel

Stop killing Jews
Bookworm Room   "Those who consume only the mainstream media do not know what’s going on in Israel. The media is lying to America through selectively presented news.  News reports are careful to lead with headlines about Palestinians killed or wounded, only mentioning deep in the article that Palestinians met these misfortunes only after they tried to slaughter Jews. Bret Stephens says it best:

If you’ve been following the news from Israel, you might have the impression that “violence” is killing a lot of people. As in this headline: “Palestinian Killed As Violence Continues.”
. . .
"Two Palestinian Teenagers Shot by Israeli Police,” according to one headline. Or: “Israeli Retaliatory Strike in Gaza Kills Woman and Child, Palestinians Say,” according to another."

"Such was the media’s way of describing two weeks of Palestinian assaults that began when Hamas killed a Jewish couple as they were driving with their four children in the northern West Bank. Two days later, a Palestinian teenager stabbed two Israelis to death in Jerusalem’s Old City, and also slashed a woman and a 2-year-old boy. Hours later, another knife-wielding Palestinian was shot and killed by Israeli police after he slashed a 15-year-old Israeli boy in the chest and back."

Will Obama invite the "Battlefield Cross boy" to the White House?

13-year-old faced discipline for T-shirt with battlefield cross
"GRESHAM, Ore. – A 13-year-old boy was told to change his T-shirt or face discipline at his middle school.

"Alan Holmes' shirt included the image of a gun, which school leaders said is not allowed.

"But the boy and his family argued the rifle is shown with boots and a helmet, in what is recognized as the battle field cross for fallen soldiers, and is meant to support the troops. The shirt said "Standing for those who stood for us."

"'It's not standing for violence, I tell you that much," Holmes said. "It's standing for the memorial for the soldiers, who have died for us and our freedom, and I 100 percent support them because they're supporting us."

"In a brief statement to KGW, Gresham-Barlow School District spokeswoman Athena Vadnais wrote "… we have a policy on student dress and grooming. Weapons on a shirt are not appropriate in a school setting"." . . .

The Fallen Soldier Battle Cross, Battlefield Cross or Battle Cross
. . . "It is made up of the soldier's rifle stuck into the ground or into the soldier's boots, with helmet on top. Dog tags are sometimes placed on the rifle, and the boots of the dead soldier can be placed next to the rifle. The purpose is to show honor and respect for the dead at the battle site. The practice started during the American Civil War or maybe earlier as a meansof identifying the bodies on the battleground before they were removed.

"Today, it is an immediate means of showing respect for the dead among the still living members of the troop. It might be seen in the field or base camp after the battle in Afghanistan or Iraq. Used less today as a means to identify the dead but more as a private ceremony among those still living as a means to mourn, as attending the funeral is not always possible for soldiers still in the fight." . . .
