Mizzou's Showboat

Universities have become totalitarian gulags

Robert Oscar Lopez "The modern American university has become a taxpayer-subsidized left-wing gulag.  In it, dissenters such as myself can be subjected to Stalinist show trials, spied on, and threatened with loss of livelihood for espousing dangerous ideas or associating with political pariahs.  If Republicans continue to moan about "liberal bias" and "losing the culture wars" without mustering the courage to do something about it – à la I have glimpsed the future that awaits the whole country if the Equality Act is passed.  My university – which I have nicknamed Gaslight University – has charged me with "discrimination" against gays and women.  I suggest that you check out the article by Peter Fricke (or this onethis one
or this one or this one or this one).  If moved, you are always free to sign the online petition posted by a British academic or the online petition posted by Ruth Institute president Jennifer Roback Morse.

"Everything you've heard recently about universities shredding the Constitution is unfortunately true."   . . .

American Silliness on campus: who has made this generation to be like the people they are?

For the sake of this country, raise the voting age to post-college. That's at least a start. TD

A Plague of Unruly Children  . . . "It is disturbing that a senior law enforcement executive fired a man when the situation was not fully known at the time.  However, what I saw in the video is greatly disturbing but a multiple levels.  To borrow the phrase from our president’s favorite pastor, “America’s chickens…have some home…to roost!” . . .
"Young men, have as many kids as you want, don’t worry about supporting them, we’ll ‘raise’ them and you don’t have to worry about getting a job.  We got disability for that, you can chill….”  Professor Thomas Sowell said it best, “The black family survived centuries of slavery and generations of Jim Crow, but it has disintegrated in the wake of the liberals' expansion of the welfare state.' ”  . . .

Center for American Progress kerfuffle accidentally reveals Palestinians were advising demonstrators in Ferguson

Was the Mizzou poop swastika a fake?
. . . "Later in his letter, Donley noted that he only found out about the alleged vandalism incident “via a flyer posted on the walls” of the dorm.
"Although Donley did not respond to repeated requests for comment prior to publication, The Federalist spoke with two RHA staffers while trying to get in touch with Donley. Neither had personally witnessed the poop swastika. When asked if there was any photographic evidence of the alleged incident, one staffer replied, “Not to my knowledge.”'  . . .

HopeNChangeCartoons . . . "Specifically, the University Police have issued a campus wide call for students to contact them immediately in case they are exposed, or even feel they are exposed, to "hateful or hurtful speech." The police are asking for descriptions, license plate numbers and, if possible, photographs of anyone suspected of saying something which is potentially hurtful." . . .

His positive, encouraging email did nothing but kick over the "freak hive".

Christie on College Temper Tantrums: “A product of ‘lawlessness’ that Obama allows”   . . . "Since Obama has yet to chime in on the series of temper tantrums unfolding at some colleges, although you know he will and will take the side of the agitators, this is a rather clever way of sucking him into the debate." . . .

Weasel of the Week Nominees

Nice Deb  "It’s time once again for the Watcher’s Council’s ‘Weasel Of The Week’ nominations, where we pick our choices to compete for the award of the famed Golden Weasel to a public figure who particularly deserves to be slimed and mocked for his or her dastardly deeds during the week. Every Tuesday morning, tune in for the Weasel of the Week nominations!
"Here are this weeks’ nominees…."

1. The Donald

"Fausta’s Blog : Donald Trump for choosing Ben Carson’s memoirs to pick on the doctor."

The Noisy Room: Politico for lying about Ben Carson and then retracting their lie, sort of.

3. Faisel Mohammed, Jihadi Murderer

. . . "The Merced Sun Star reported that Mohammed “smiled as he slashed at people during a stabbing spree.” He was also shouting Allahu Akbar.Needless to say, UC Merced is a gun-free zone." . . .

. . . "And remember, every Wednesday, the Council has its weekly contest with the members nominating two posts each, one written by themselves and one written by someone from outside the group for consideration by the whole Council. The votes are cast by the Council, and the results are posted on Friday morning."

The crucible that is Mizzou

Political Cartoons by Glenn McCoy

The Left Eats Its Own at MU  . . . "Once elected to high office, Democrats too cowardly to say "all lives matter" will yield to the mob as surely as their bourgeois comrades did in Revolutionary France.  Alas, they will discover, as Wolfe and Loftin did, that liberal heads are often the first ones on the chopping block.  The only real question for them is how long that chopping block remains a metaphor."

Was the Mizzou poop swastika a fake?   "Sean Davis at The Federalist asks a worthwhile question, given the hundreds of documented fake hate crimes, usually perpetrated for the purpose of launching political reactions.  The reason why the purported swastika drawn with feces at Mizzou is suspicious is:

… no evidence of the alleged incident, in which a poop swastika on the wall of a dormitory restroom was reported, has ever been made publicly available. Did this incident occur as reported, or was it an immaculate defecation that formed the foundation of an unimaginable deception?
Michael Ramirez Cartoon

Progressives, A Safe Space And Adult Diapers  . . ."Without a poop swastika at Yale, these brats have little to whine about. Rather than specifics, they simply want to feel “safe.” But unsafe means having someone with a differing opinion near them. They are a disgrace.

"These spoiled Yalies and Mizzou morons are everything that is wrong with progressives and the Democratic Party. They should be told to shut up and go back to school or leave. But these are Democrats. These are their voters. This is their base. These are their ideals."

Veterans Day, 2015

Hope n' Change Cartoons  "We humbly thank all who have served. You are the best of us."

Political Cartoons by Ken Catalino

 Political Cartoons by Gary Varvel
. . . "Regardless of how high his office, no politician who had the opportunity to serve in the military, but didn’t, will be allowed to make a patriotic speech, appear on TV, or poke his nose out of his office for the entire day.
"Any politician who defies this ban will be required to spend 12 hours wearing headphones and listening to tapes of President Clinton explaining his deferments." . . .Via Blackfive

 Political Cartoons by Steve Breen

Simple 5-Step Family Plan for Honoring Veterans  . . . "This last suggestion for making the most of Veterans Day does not involve thanking a vet. But it does aim at creating a family culture of remembering and appreciating our nation’s military history and heroes. Every veteran I know views cultivating this memory and appreciation as a high form of thanks."

Ann Coulter has some issues with Marco Rubio, I'd say

"Talking about the wall, Trump said: "The wall will be built. The wall will be successful. And if you think walls don't work, all you have to do is ask Israel." The cheering from the Coulter household was so loud, it could be heard in Tel Aviv, which is safer than El Paso because Israel has a wall.
"Given Rubio's special concern with Israel, you'd think he would have jumped at that invitation, but he stood dumb, like he was trying to figure out how to work in another reference to his father being a bartender.
"

DON'T ASK HIM THAT! IT WOULD BE TOO OBVIOUS
. . . "He said the "problem is that today people are not successful working as hard as ever because the economy is not providing jobs that pay enough."

I wonder if the dump of millions of low-wage foreign workers on our country has anything to do with that?

-- He gave a brave little speech announcing his opposition to jihadists -- setting him apart from everyone else on that stage, who LOVES Islamic jihadists! -- and claimed that radical terrorist groups "recruit Americans using social media."

No, Marco, ISIS doesn't recruit "Americans" on social media. It recruits immigrants and their children -- whom you want to import more of, by the way.

Given his record, it's too late for Rubio to take America's side on immigration. But it's still amazing that only Ted Cruz is smart enough to adopt Trump's runaway, most popular position.

After coming in the lower-middle of the last three debate polls, Cruz finally made it to the No. 2 spot this week. By sheer coincidence, it was the first debate where he fully adopted Trump's position on immigration.

Early commentary on the GOP debates

"Fox Business News was perhaps a mite too self-congratulatory about how well it conducted tonight’s debate–but the contrast to CNBC’s embarrassing performance was sufficiently stark that I can forgive it. "

"Ben Carson packed quite a bit into slightly more than thirty seconds of his closing statement, and each element resonated. "

The Winners, Losers, Running in Place  . . . "Biggest loser on merits: Kasich. He’s done. He came across angry, condescending and unprincipled. By the end of the debate he came across as the drunk, obnoxious, uncle everyone wishes hadn’t accepted the invitation to Thanksgiving dinner.
"Biggest loser politically: Jeb Bush" . . .

Shocked at Yale and Mizzuo? Look what pro-Israel students have suffered for years.

Shocked at Yale and Mizzou? Pro-Israel students have lived with intimidation for years
. . . "The attention on physical and other intimidation to silence opposing viewpoints is welcome, but don’t think this is something new on campuses, even if liberals are just paying attention because liberals now are targeted.
"For Israelis and pro-Israel students, physical disruptions of events by groups such as Students for Justice in Palestine,
have become common.

"We reported just the other day how Protesters shouted down an Israeli Professor at U. Minnesota law school. Law Professor Dale Carpenter gave this first-hand account:

The lecture, which I attended, was delayed half an hour as one by one the protesters stood up to shout denunciations of Israel and were escorted from the hall by university police. One young woman came screaming back into the lecture after having been ejected. Outside the hall, the protesters chanted so loudly that it was difficult to hear Halbertal, much less to concentrate on what he was saying, until 45 minutes after the lecture was to have begun….
"Just a couple of weeks earlier, an Israeli diplomat — who happens to be the first Israeli diplomat who is Bedouin — had his event disrupted at the University of Windsor. "

"A “Taste of Israel” event at Tufts University was disrupted in late October.

"Cornell students were physically threatened by SJP and Ithaca activists for silently holding pro-Israel signs (language warning):

Those campus protests at Mizzou discussed

There appears to be a theme at American Thinker today, and none of it humorous

White Racism at Mizzou and Berkeley: Racial Hoaxes of the Week
. . . "The racism on campus may have been a hoax. But like Columbia, violent crime in Berkeley is not:  and yes, it is a black thing there too. Often directed at their Asian students with their sweet, sweet phones and laptops.
Just a few months ago, while protesting police brutality against a New York sidewalk illegal cigarette merchant, a white man was attacked by a black mob. They fractured his skull with a hammer -- despite the fact that he was on their side.

Mizzou media professor tries to ban press from covering protests
. . . "As chilling as all this is, it's probably going to get worse. The protesters have tasted power and have developed quite an appetite. They are now calling for the resignation of the Chancellor of all Missouri state universities. Hopefully R. Bowen Loftin is made of sterner stuff than former president Wolfe.

Mizzou and the Hillary campaign
" . . .Keep in mind that both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have met with leaders of the Black Lives Matter movement.  Is it a coincidence that a few incidents in which nothing much really happened have now exploded into a national airing of racial grievances and apparent confessions of guilt via resignations?

"Remember how Occupy Wall Street, an AstroTurf movement supported by tons of MSM coverage, took place to frame the Romney campaign as out of touch and uncaring.  This is just the same tactic, translated to new circumstances."

Vocal fry: why some women talk the way they do

The Valley Girl Speech Pattern Meets The 21st Century
"If you’ve ever watched reality tv, then you are probably familiar with the concept of vocal fry. It’s a popular method of speaking where words are drawn out with a low, grungy twinge. Many find the sound of vocal fry annoying, but are there more serious consequences? Faith Sallie investigated and found that the use of vocal fry is a lot more prevalent than previously thought, especially among college-aged girls. It was also found to be dangerous to the long-term health of your vocal chords. Some medical experts even classify it as a disorder. So next time you want to emulate a Kardashian in your everyday life, stop and think before you talk."
