From Chamberlain to Biden, Lessons in Appeasement

Today we have pro-Hamas groups, just as then we had American Nazi Bunds standing up for Germany. Like today, the mass killing of Jews was not an issue with them. TD

The American Spectator | USA News and Politics

. . ."Our present -day appeasers have exhibited all the delusory smugness that characterized early Chamberlain. Perhaps they have it in them to realize their inadequacy as leaders, as he did, and to devote whatever energy and talents they have left to helping defeat the world menace they have themselves nurtured through their woeful, blind self-absorption." . . .

You were given the choice between war and dishonour. You chose dishonour, and you will have war.' - To Neville Chamberlain”; Winston Churchill.  Similarly today, we have the feckless Biden and the campus snowflakes.  TD

"To recognize appeasement, it’s best to learn from a master.

"One must not mistake Neville Chamberlain for a Nazi. He wasn’t. His antisemitism was that of T. S. Eliot — an offended sensibility, a mild disgust at there always being some untidy trouble attending them. He was a prim Englishman who dressed the part of the aristocracy, but who was more of an accountant than a man of leisure and noblesse oblige. He was secretive and manipulative when in power; he was easily threatened by brilliance and outspokenness, separately, and doubly threatened when both qualities were combined, to excess, in Winston Churchill.

"Though he is famous for appeasement, he did draw a line, unexpectedly, and held to it. In the fall of 1938, he fervently believed that he and Hitler had saved the peace of Europe at Munich, and that Hitler could be trusted when he said that the Sudeten territory the Allies had carved off of Czechoslovakia and given him was the last of Germany’s territorial ambitions in Europe.  Then when less then six months later, Hitler gobbled up the rest of the country, after a slight delay, Chamberlain declared himself as having been bamboozled, and he drew a red line in front of where Hitler was heading next — Poland. When Hitler invaded Poland that September, Chamberlain did not pull an Obama and just pretend he had never made a commitment. He sent Germany an ultimatum, and by September 3, Britain was at war.

"But even at war, Chamberlain and his French ally continued to behave as if he was still conducting a negotiation, and it affected the British war effort.

"Churchill had been brought into the government the moment the war started, and he was full of ideas on how to put the Nazis on their heels. Churchill oversaw the water aspect of the war, and the Germans began in his department, by striking at where Britain was most vulnerable – its sea lifeline. The Germans dropped mines all over the shipping lanes and their submarines started the terrible work.

"Churchill sought to take away the momentum from the Nazis, and his thinking ran inventively, as was his wont. He put forth the plan of fluvial mines — launching hundreds of floating mines into the Rhine River to disrupt the river traffic that carried so much of Germany’s goods. It was a fine idea, but Chamberlain dithered for months. When his government okayed it, the French dithered further, worried that such an escalation would unnecessarily provoke Hitler into the kind of serious fighting that the Allies dreaded. " . . .

360 degrees of hostility: The Biden administration and Israel

  Caroline Glick

"Seemingly with each passing day, the Biden administration announces a new initiative aimed at undermining Israel’s ability to defend itself, either by limiting its military options, constraining its diplomatic maneuvering room, empowering its enemies or inducing domestic discord and social cleavages." . . .

"The Mothers of IDF Soldiers group led a demonstration last week of army mothers, reservists in the Israel Defense Forces, bereaved families and other concerned citizens outside the U.S. embassy in Jerusalem. They demanded that President Joe Biden stop leveraging power to force Israel to resupply Hamas.

"The following day, hundreds of Israelis, including parents of soldiers, families of hostages and terror victims gathered outside Ashdod Port. For hours, they blocked trucks laden with supplies for Gaza from exiting the port. Activists have been blocking trucks from entering Gaza via the Kerem Shalom and Nitzana border crossings for more than two weeks.

"Speaking to the crowd in the southern Israeli city of Ashdod, Shifra Shahar, who runs a nonprofit organization that cares for the needs of soldiers, addressed her remarks to Israel’s leaders:

“ 'Government of Israel, defense minister, IDF chief of staff, get ahold of yourselves!

“ 'We had elections last year. I don’t recall voting for [U.S. Secretary of State Antony] Blinken! Blinken is sitting in the war cabinet and protecting the interests of my enemy. … We have sons in Gaza. We have sons fighting. The entry of the trucks endangers them, prolongs the war, increases the number of casualties and delays the return of the hostages!

“ 'They tell me, ‘There are constraints.’ He who is constrained doesn’t win the war.

“ 'They tell me, ‘The Americans are threatening not to provide us with ammunition.’

“ 'To this, I say, if we were besieging them, we wouldn’t need ammunition! The war would end. They’d be screaming for help, returning the hostages and the war would end!” . . .

Marg bar, masks, and mania; Anti-war activists in Chicago learn to chant “Death to Israel” and “Death to America” in Farsi.

"One can understand if the crowd in the Chicago video was hiding behind masks out of shame for their wishing death on others.  That they are hiding behind masks out of likely exaggerated fear for their own hides, one cannot.  It’s time to stop indulging self-centered advocates of terrorists chanting their own death wishes."

John M. Grondelski - American Thinker   "Last weekend, as Iranian missiles descended on Israel, some Americans were standing with terrorism.  Social media featured a Chicago group happily being taught Persian phrases for “Death to Israel!” They even asking how to add “Death to America!”

"Think about that: people in America wishing – and wanting to know how to wish – “death to America!”

"Most commentators on that video noted that paradox.  None noted two other things in the video.

"The first is “what does it mean?”  After the crowd enthusiastically chants those slogans, somebody finally asks, “what does it mean?”  One might have expected that question to come first, but at least it came out.  What’s telling is the leader’s response (at 0:40).  He says it has two meanings, “depending on who’s asking.”  Marg bar can mean “death to” or “down with.”

"Depending on who’s asking,  I guess “down with” can include “six feet down under.”

"That word game is not new.  Apologists for leftist supporters of the “Iranian revolution” have played that verbal shell game for years, insisting that fanatical crowds chanting marg bar Amrika!  were merely proponents of a multipolar world.

"My second observation on the video are the masks.  Almost everybody in that video is masked.  I count at least nine." . . .

President Trump Did Not Incite the Jan. 6 Capitol Riot

Donald W. Bohlken - American Thinker   "President Biden and others claim that President Trump incited the Capitol Riot, falsely described as an  “insurrection,” on January 6, 2021.  This belief explains Colorado’s failed attempt to remove Trump’s name from the ballot because he is an “insurrectionist,” as well as a national YouGov poll that found that 54% of Americans approved of the Colorado action.  It is now used as a justification for Biden to refuse to debate Trump.  This claim remains a serious problem — not only for Trump, but for obtaining an accurate history of what happened on January 6.

"A rational evaluation of Trump’s words and actions, and other factors, demonstrates that this claim is nonsense.

"If Trump wanted a riot, why would he repeatedly request National Guard troops for January 6?  On January 3, 2021, President Trump asked Secretary of Defense Miller and General Milley to assign National Guard troops to counter violence on January 6.  Miller responded, “We’ve got a plan and we’ve got it covered.”

"Troops could be legally provided only if requested by law enforcement.  The Capitol Police declined the Defense Department’s offer of troops.

"The Secret Service, the Marshals Service, Park Police, and the Department of Homeland Security informed Defense “that they did not anticipate needing DoD assistance on January 6th.”

"The District of Columbia requested 340 troops, primarily for crowd control at Metro stations and intersections.

"On January 5, Trump asked Secretary Miller for 10000 troops “to do what’s required to protect the American people.' ” . . .

Thus, by January 5, President Trump had not only twice requested national guard troops, but had been assured that the Department of Defense had “a plan and we’ve got it covered.”

Mob rule at Columbia

...and we do everything Hamas does!

Power Line (powerlineblog.com)

"It looks like the mob has taken control of Columbia University, SA style. The Columbia Spectator reports on the suspensions issued for for participation in Wednesday’s “Gaza Solidarity Encampment.” One of Ilhan Omar’s daughters (Isra Hirsi) is among the suspended students. The rotten apple doesn’t fall far from the rotten tree.

"The Spectator quotes Columbia undergrad Maryam Alwan, another one of the suspended students. Alwan told the Spectator that she received a letter informing her of her interim suspension from the Center for Student Success and Intervention [!]. “I think all of these administrators need to get a grip and listen to their students and watch the news and see how many people have been killed,” Alwan told the Spectator. (More wisdom à la Alwan in this Spectator column.)

"Who are these people? Four New York Post reporters look into their background in “Columbia anti-Israel protest arrests include Letitia James intern, UPS exec’s daughter who killed elderly couple in crash as a teen.” The Post reporters identify several rotten apples.

"The Columbia “protests” and “protesters” do not support “Palestinians.” They support Hamas and other genocidal maniacs. They are subjecting Jewish students and teachers to something like a reign of terror. The Washington Free Beacon’s Meghan Blonder reports that “Columbia Students Call on President Shafik To Restore Order on Campus,” and it’s not because their feelings have been wounded. It’s because they are unsafe.

"Take the case of Arab-Israeli journalist Yoseph Haddad. He was assaulted at Columbia as he thought he was about to give a lecture on campus. The Free Beacon’s Collin Anderson covers that story here (including video of the assault on Haddad). Haddad’s speech was canceled. “Instead of a lecture, I went to file a police complaint,” he noted. In the tweet below he also commented on the misrepresentation of his story by Reuters. By the way, he understands the Columbia mob perfectly (“terror supporters”). No euphemisms for him." . . .

Biden annoys Papua New Guinea's locals with his 'cannibal' claims about them

  Monica Showalter - American Thinker

Why he would do this, pointlessly alienating an important nation that America needs as a friend and one that has never done anything bad to us at all, is really disgusting. It shows what a hash Joe Biden has made of foreign policy and just how cartoonish his knowledge of foreign affairs really is.

"There he goes again.

Joe Biden, once billed as a foreign policy genius, has gone and alienated another country, upsetting the Papua New Guinea residents with his phony claim that his Uncle Bosie, who died in World War II, was eaten by cannibals on one of their islands, which he wasn't.

The mainstream media isn't saying anything, but the British press is paying attention:

According to the Daily Mail:

Outraged Papua New Guinea academics have slammed President Joe Biden for his 'unacceptable' suggestion that his uncle was eaten by cannibals in the country after his plane was shot down during World War II.

Biden implied on two occasions Wednesday that his maternal uncle 2nd Lieutenant Ambrose J. Finnegan had met a grisly end at the hands of cannibals after his plane was shot down by the enemy over New Guinea in 1944.

But the White House and official defense records confirmed that Finnegan died when the military plane he was in experienced engine failure and crashed into the Pacific Ocean, not over land.

Historically, cannibalism has been reported Papua New Guinea, the Pacific nation that occupies the eastern half of the island of New Guinea, but local academics say Biden's categorization of the act is 'very offensive'. . . .

The cannibals should sue Biden for defamation - Silvio Canto, Jr.

Indeed, we sit back and listen to every word because it's likely another story that he made up. Of course, the real problem here is not the storyteller-in-chief but rather the media that lets him get away with it.

Below:  Was Biden's uncle eaten by cannibals in World War Two? Military records reveal what REALLY happened to Ambrose Finnegan as White House dodges questions on Joe's tall tale | Daily Mail Online   "Local people watching wounded U,S. and Australian soldiers being placed on a row of stretchers. Papua New Guinea, December 1942" Waiting to bear the stretchers of the wounded.

'And he became an Army Air Corps before the Air Force came along. He flew those single engine planes as reconnaissance over war zones. 'And he got shot down near Guinea and they never found the body because there used to be, there were a lot of cannibals for real, in that part of New Guinea.'

Then Biden and Karinne diverted back to the "suckers and losers" bromide that should work well with the MSNBC crowd. TD

Oh, then there is this: Biden 'doesn't understand the Catholic faith,' bishop says: 'I'm not angry at him, he's just stupid' (Not MSNBC)    "Catholic bishop in Michigan weighed in on the discrepancy between President Biden's policies and his professed Catholic faith earlier this month, suggesting "forgiveness" for the president's "stupidity." . . .

Democrat House reps stop just short of explicitly calling for Trump’s assassination

 Andrea Widburg - American Thinker

Those Democrats who retain a smidgen of rationality might realize that this is a very bad look for their party. For those in the public who have given credence to the lawfare against Trump, the fact that prominent Democrat party members are using that same lawfare as a vehicle for assassination might finally give them pause.

"Rep. Bennie Thompson (D. Miss.), who chaired the House J6 Committee, introduced legislation that calls for President Donald Trump to lose his Secret Service protection if he’s convicted and sent to prison. Thompson fully understands that there is a strong likelihood that the current Manhattan hush money trial or the upcoming Georgia RICO trial, both of which are open partisan lawfare rather than justice, will see at least one felony conviction and prison sentence for Trump. In other words, this legislation is an almost explicit call for Trump’s assassination.

"It’s been apparent since the get-go that the myriad criminal actions against Trump are a form of election interference. Each case has no basis in law or fact. All are purely partisan actions intended not only to prevent Trump from re-taking the White House but to tell anyone else who opposes the Democrat machine that the machine will go into Destructor-mode. Now, though, we’re seeing an even more sinister side to the Democrats’ anti-democratic and immoral actions, all of which are zooming the U.S. toward a constitutional crisis as profound as that which faced America in 1861." . . .

. . ."It wasn’t just the entertainment world that got in on the act during Trump's first term. Politicians were there, too:

A Missouri lawmaker is under mounting pressure to resign after she said on social media she hopes President Trump is assassinated, following his response to violence at a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville.

Democratic state Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal went on her personal Facebook page Thursday morning to vent two days after the president blamed “both sides” for the brutality.

“I put up a statement saying, ‘I really hate Trump. He’s causing trauma and nightmares.’ That was my original post,” she told the Kansas City Star. The Facebook post received many responses, Chappelle-Nadal said, and to one she replied, “I hope Trump is assassinated!”

. . ." This cannot be allowed to stand. The only way to counter it is to vote for Trump for president. Otherwise, America will forever be under the Democrat party jackboot. And of course, once Trump is in office, he must truly clean out the moral filth and financial and power-based corruption that characterizes Washington D.C.’s Augean Stables. ' . . .

If they jail Trump, what’s next? - Clark Wren  "The insiders, the elites, the establishment, whatever you want to call them, are hoping our Soviet-styled Department of Justice (“show me the man, and I’ll show you the crime”) will keep rolling forward and steam-roll Donald Trump. Although the Trump base is solidly with him and has stopped listening to anything the legacy press tries to manipulate us to believe, the Department of Justice has the power to incarcerate Trump if that is the will of the court.

"What then? The elephant in the room is precisely what the talking heads won’t say. We have a constitutional crisis right now. Refusal to acknowledge the elephant doesn’t make it go away." . . .

Democrats Move to Strip Trump of Secret Service Protection | The Gateway Pundit | by Cristina Laila

A sight I found fairly terrifying in a meeting room filled with American citizens who are "useful idiots"!

The Tunnel Wall blog: The radiant young Americans and their pleasant teacher enjoy each other as he teaches them Muslim chants of "death to America!", and 'death to Israel'. Which is more frightening: that smiling teacher or the young sheep with their raised fists and words implanted in their fertile minds, coming out of their ignorant mouths? It is awful to see so much murderous ignorance in American young people who might be our neighbors. Or family members!

For that matter, can you picture this man now teaching Arabic chants to American children placing an infant into an oven to cook to death; beheading a young person with blows from a hoe or shovel; raping a lady while her family watches at gunpoint. Can you see this pleasant man raping a woman from behind while another grabs her hair and bends her over a truck bed? Would he shoot her in the head while in the act of penetrating her?

All these have been witnessed by some who have escaped alive from the young men of Hamas who recorded their deeds while doing them with glee. Those video scenes were played for the people of Gaza City who cheered each act that they found to their liking.

American youth, do you not realize that the friendly instructor in front of you wants Israeli people dead? Picture him and his fellow kaffiyeh-wearing people in the villages of southern Israel, encouraging you to be capable of accomplishing what you see in this link:

Who could expect Israel to be angry over their families; their women being burned to death and having body parts, including breasts amputated during rape? How could they mind Palestinians being gleeful while breaking the bones of captured Israelis?

Was cooking infants in ovens a problem for them?

Gazans raped Israeli women, then shot them in the head during the act of rape; how would we have thought that was a problem for Jews?

Horrific new stories of Hamas attacks in Israel surface, including rape of woman who screamed to be killed (nypost.com)   "A “beautiful woman with the face of an angel’’ was raped by eight to 10 Hamas terrorists in Israel on Oct. 7, while another tragic victim was beheaded with a shovel while trying to defend herself, a stricken survivor says.

Yoni Saadon, a 39-year-old father of four, told the UK’s Sunday Times that he is still haunted by the horrific scenes he witnessed at the Nova Music festival, when the Hamas fiends slaughtered at least 364 festival-goers, including the gang-raped woman, who begged to be killed.

“I saw this beautiful woman with the face of an angel and eight or 10 of the fighters beating and raping her,” recalled Saadon, a foundry shift manager. “She was screaming, ‘Stop it already! I’m going to die anyway from what you are doing, just kill me!’

“ 'When they finished, they were laughing, and the last one shot her in the head,” he said." . . .

If you say, "I am Hamas!", then stand by your actions in these villages!  Hamas terrorists had 'a thing with sexual organs' and targeted genitalia of Israeli victims: UN testimony (nypost.com)   . . ."I remember how [one attacker] shifted her position, then passed her on to another person,” she recalled in the video testimony.

“She was alive. … She was standing. … She was bleeding from her back. … She had a long hair, and he was pulling it. … She wasn’t dressed. … He cut her breast. He threw it on the road, and they played with it,” the woman recounted in the gruesome testimony." . . .

UPDATE: HAMAS MASSACRE (saturday-october-seven.com)  The work of Hamas is so revolting they had to blur out the photos of what they did to publish them.  But since you Keffiyeh-Klad Kollegians are so proud of your latest passion it seemed necessary to display your work. You chant "We are Hamas"? Which Hamas are you; the one who shattered a woman's pelvis by your violent rape? The one who beheaded an infant in its crib? He who made an Israeli family watch you kill their parents? How about one of those who took four Israeli women to an intersection, shot them, then left their bodies in the road?

The Lawfare Racket Against Trump -

The American Spectator | USA News and Politics

What the Democrats are doing to him is beyond anything that exists in American law.

"Has Trump redeemed himself? I don’t know. But I do know he never did and never would get involved with any woman other than his wife while in office. I trust him there. John F. Kennedy was not that pristine while in office, though the media covered for him. LBJ walked around on airplanes with his private male organ exposed, for the media to see . . ."

"I attended UCLA School of Law from August 1990 to May 1993. I was chief articles editor of the UCLA Law Review and then moved on to clerk for a brilliant (I add: most brilliant) federal appeals court judge, the Hon. Danny J. Boggs of the United States Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit. I then practiced complex civil litigation for more than a decade at three of America’s most prominent powerhouse law firms, moving over to teaching law school for nearly 20 years. Yes, I am a rabbi of 40-plus years who knows Judaic law and the Bible pretty respectably by now, but I also know American law every bit as well as the pundits you see on TV. And those pundits don’t make puns.

"What the Democrats and their media co-conspirators are doing to former and future President Donald Trump is beyond anything that exists in American law, and they are destroying our country. You see, here is how it works:

"Nixon screwed up but did not deserve to be thrown out of office. It was not he who cooked up the bungled Watergate break-in. He probably fumed when he learned about it. He was leading in the polls at the time by 2 million points, give or take Massachusetts, and he did not need to do anything because George McGovern was campaigning for him. No one wanted McGovern. No one. Then Nixon learned that his backers broke into the Watergate Hotel, yada-yada-yada. What should he have done?

"The leftist media know he should have called 9-1-1 and turned them in. But that is not realistic. What kind of jerk learns that his closest friends, on their own, tried to “do him a solid” but messed up, so he then snitches on them to the fuzz? No one does that. You cannot do that. You can call out others for failing to do that, but you never would do that yourself. If there had been a Fox News at the time, for all their flaws, Nixon’s side would have gotten a nightly airing, and he would have gotten censured but not impeached. But the Democrats smelled blood.

"That day was the day that the impeachment of Bill Clinton began. No one had ever heard of him, but that didn’t matter. Sooner or later, the Republicans were going to retaliatorily impeach a Democrat. Then the Dems impeached Trump, and then the GOP impeached Alejandro Mayorkas. It never mattered whether there were enough votes in the Senate to convict Clinton, Trump, or Mayorkas. Once it started with Nixon, it had to be avenged, and then more retaliation, and then more. Nixon never should have faced impeachment. Clinton dishonored himself and deserved to be sued in civil court serially by the women he abused, but you don’t impeach a president because he lies to a lawyer in a deposition over whether he “had sex” with a female while he falsely swears to his wife at home each night that he never touched her. It is what it is. Trump’s phone call to Volodymyr Zelensky was perfectly reasonable. Of all the politicized impeachments, the only one that is legit is the present one to throw out Mayorkas. And the Democrats dismissed it before it could begin.

"Let the word go forth from this time and place (my column at The American Spectator) that the Trump lawfare obscenities will unleash lawfare against the Bidens after January 2025 or whenever his time ends. If Joe is reelected and dies in office, they still will go after Hunter and all the other Bidens. Then the Democrats will go after the next Republican president like Ron DeSantis or whoever, and then the GOP will imprison the next Democrat after. Welcome to the Banana Republic. Make sure not to slip on the peels in Aisle 8 while the criminal attorneys file slips on appeal in Courtroom 8." . . .

Are Iran's Nine Lives Nearing an End? Victor Davis Hanson

 Victor Davis Hanson (townhall.com)

"Before the Biden appeasement of Iran, the Trump administration had isolated and nearly bankrupted Tehran and its proxies. Its Revolutionary Guard terrorist planners proved to be easy targets once they operated outside Iran."

"The theocracy of Iran has been the world's arch-embassy attacker over the last half-century.

"So it has zero credibility in crying foul over Israel's April 1 attacks on its "consulate" in Damascus and the killing of Iran's kingpin terrorists of the Revolutionary Guard Corps there.

"Remember, the world was first introduced to the Iranian ayatollahs by their violent takeover of the U.S. embassy in Tehran in 1980.

"Iranian surrogates next bombed the American embassy in Beirut and the Marine barracks in 1983.

"In fact, Iran has attacked U.S. and Israeli diplomatic posts off and on for decades, most recently in 2023, when Iran helped plan an attack on the U.S. embassy in Baghdad.

"For this reason and several others, Iran's justification for sending 170 drones, 30 cruise missiles, and 120 ballistic missiles into Israel because Israel had bombed an Iranian diplomatic post is completely ridiculous.

"One, Iran has never honored diplomatic immunity. Instead, it habitually attacks and kills embassy personnel and blows up diplomatic facilities across the world.

"Two, on April 1, the Israelis attacked a pseudo-"consulate" in Damascus which was hosting grandees of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps as they planned terrorist attacks on Israel.

"Without Iran, the Middle East might have had a chance to use its enormous oil and natural gas wealth to lift its 500 million people out of poverty rather than to be mired in constant tribal and religious anti-Israeli, anti-American, and anti-Western terrorism.

"During the Iraq War, Iran's Shiite terrorists and its massive supplies of deadly shaped-charge explosive devices killed hundreds of Americans. It routinely hijacks container ships in the Straits of Hormuz and stages near collisions with American ships and planes." . . .

The World Is Paying a Deadly Price for Barack Obama's Foreign Policy Legacy  . . ."The Trump administration undercut Palestinian terror efforts, stifled Iranian ambitions, and created space for the Gulf states and Israel to enhance ties.

"Biden immediately reversed those gains, reverting to Obama-era Iranian boosterism. We're now experiencing the consequences of pacifying Islamic ideologues. Obama might have sent the mullahs pallets of cash in the middle of the night, but the Biden administration openly subsidized the Revolutionary Guard with a $6 billion ransom payment, at least $25 billion in sanction relief, including $10 billion via a waiver, and so on."  . . ."Every conflict against Israel unfurls the same way: Its enemies threaten or attack the country. Israel responds and heads for a victory. Only then does the world demand "restraint." Finally, the antagonists demand Israel rewind history to a more convenient spot. (Modern Democrats demand that Israel show restraint before it even has a chance to respond. That's a new twist.)" . . .

Trump v. Biden; will they debate?

Democrats Aren't Protecting Biden by Not Allowing Him to Debate Trump, They're Protecting Something Else – RedState    "We're not going to get a debate between Donald Trump and President Joe Biden. Common Sense Custodian commented courteously:

It’s amazing, Donald Trump shows up at a bodega and people of all walks of life all races all ages all genders cheer him! Biden tries to do the same gets ignored or gets booed. I honestly think we could be looking at a landslide like we haven’t seen since Ronald Reagan .

Should Biden and Trump debate? Political strategists weigh in on risks for candidates; The Charlotte Observer    “ 'If there is one thing Americans can agree on during this polarized time, it is that the stakes of this election are exceptionally high,” a dozen outlets, including CNN and Fox News, wrote in a joint statement released on April 14.

“ 'Amidst that backdrop, there is simply no substitute for the candidates debating with each other, and before the American people, their visions for the future of our nation,” the statement added.

"Still, with eight months to go until the election, Biden’s campaign has yet to commit to any televised debates.

"When mulling over whether to participate, there are several risks for the Biden campaign to consider, political strategists told McClatchy News. There are others for the Trump campaign to contemplate as well."   Full article here...
