The Fourth of July: What We Should Be Celebrating

Of Thee I Sing 1776  "This is a Republic we have been given, “if” as Franklin is reported to have said, “we can keep it.” Keeping it means knowing what it is to be fortunate enough to live in a republic such as that bequeathed to us by the founders, and how important that is to maintaining both our freedom from the oppressive government our founders feared and the liberty necessary to pursue our individual dreams."

"On this 4th of July weekend, the 234th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence TabRight.com felt it would be appropriate to provide a copy of the document that marked the birth of an independent American nation. Happy Birthday America!"

Leno demonstrates effectiveness of American education on history   "If you want the right answers, get Grandpa to answer them, a message I heartily endorse. Hopefully, he took Jay’s advice and sat his family down with a history book or two, but in fairness, it looks as though plenty of Americans don’t have a clue about their own history."

A silver platter of GOP talking points for November

American Thinker  "Using what I call a "silver platter" of campaign talking points handed to them by the Obama administration and Democrat leadership; Republicans should trounce the opposition in debate after debate all the way to a landslide victory on November 2nd.
"But having said that, I'm beginning to get a little - no - a lot worried at what I am seeing after watching Republicans these past several months."  Neil Braithwaite

Obama Rated One of Best Presidents Ever - Better Than Reagan

Newsbusters "A survey of 238 "presidential scholars" released Thursday ranked Barack Obama as one of the nations's best presidents ever. According to the Siena College Research Institute, Obama is currently in the fifteenth position an amazing three spots AHEAD of Ronald Reagan.
"Imagine that: a man that has been in the White House for less than eighteen months and hasn't accomplished anything is considered better than the president that reinvigorated America after the dreadful Jimmy Carter years while also ending the Cold War.
"Speaking of Carter, these geniuses actually ranked him higher than George W. Bush."

Assimilation and the Founding Fathers

Michelle Malkin "George Washington, in a letter to John Adams, stated that immigrants should be absorbed into American life so that "by an intermixture with our people, they, or their descendants, get assimilated to our customs, measures, laws: in a word soon become one people." "
"In a 1790 speech to Congress on the naturalization of immigrants, James Madison stated that America should welcome the immigrant who could assimilate, but exclude the immigrant who could not readily "incorporate himself into our society.""

I Used to Love America More "I loved America more when a person could say that he thought a culture that had given the world Shakespeare, Rembrandt, DaVinci, Dickens, Bach, Beethoven, the telephone, the electric light, the automobile, the jet plane, rockets to the moon, cell phones, radar and a cure for polio, was superior to one that gave the world Sharia law, suicide bombers and clitorectomies, without being called a jingoist."  Burt Prelutsky  Much more to this letter from Patriot Post.

A Veteran Puts Kagan to Shame

Powerline "It is a remarkable fact that President Obama has nominated to the Supreme Court a woman who, as dean of Harvard Law School, discriminated against military recruiters in violation of federal law. Remarkable, but true. Yesterday, our friend Pete Hegseth testified in opposition to Kagan's confirmation at the invitation of Republican members of the Judiciary Committee. I find it interesting that his perspective--no doubt representative of most Americans--is one that the Democratic members did not think it necessary to consider as part of the confirmation hearing. Pete stated this part of the case against Elena Kagan eloquently:"...

Drug Cartel Shoots at Blackhawk Helicopter; Hits El Paso Courthouse

Gateway Pundit "The incident happened yesterday when a bullet flew into the 9th floor of City Hall. 6 more bullet holes were found on the building, but those rounds are believed to have gotten stuck in the walls."

Here is the letter by Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott:  ..."This threat demands immediate and effective action by your Administration to secure our border. As the Attorney General of Texas, I urge you to make border security your top priority so that no more innocent lives are lost to border violence."

Steele’s Afghanistan Remarks Criticized

WSJ "Conservative commentator William Kristol immediately called for Steele to resign.
At a time when Gen. [David] Petraeus has just taken over command, when Republicans in Congress are pushing for a clean war funding resolution, when Republicans around the country are doing their best to rally their fellow citizens behind the mission, your comment is more than an embarrassment. It’s an affront, both to the honor of the Republican Party and to the commitment of the soldiers fighting to accomplish the mission they’ve been asked to take on by our elected leaders,” he writes in a post at The Weekly Standard.
"Steele released a statement in which he walked back his comments and voices support for the war."
If Steele is forced to resign, let's hope he has enough class not to play the race card. Knowing the Democrats, they likely will. Others agree.

A Letter to Michael Steele  by William Kristol   "... At a time when Gen. Petraeus has just taken over command, when Republicans in Congress are pushing for a clean war funding resolution, when Republicans around the country are doing their best to rally their fellow citizens behind the mission, your comment is more than an embarrassment. It’s an affront, both to the honor of the Republican party and to the commitment of the soldiers fighting to accomplish the mission they’ve been asked to take on by our elected leaders."

Liz Cheney Joins The Michael Steele Should Resign Chorus  "Steele has since clarified his controversial remarks, urging a firm commitment of U.S. military force to Afghanistan on behalf of the president. His hold on the chairmanship, meanwhile, seems relatively secure, so long as other committee members refuse to call for his resignation."

Freeway Flag - Display Of Patriotism Or Graffiti?

KTVU SUNOL, CAlif. -- "Interstate 680, in and out of the Silicon Valley, is one of the bay area's busiest freeways. And everyday for the last eight and half years there was a hillside mural motorists passed on the Sunol grade. "It just made me feel really patriotic, just seeing it everyday," said motorcyclist Dave Freely.
"Until Wednesday, motorists saw a 35 foot mural of the American flag painted on a concrete retaining wall.
"On Thursday, it was just gray concrete painted over by Caltrans."

The Black Panther case

Fox News "A former Justice Department attorney who resigned last month in protest of the Obama administration's handling of a voter intimidation case involving the New Black Panther Party accused a top Justice official of lying under oath about the circumstances surrounding the decision to drop the case."

DOJ Slimes Whistleblower Adams in Panthergate Case    "But given our current media environment, this is the kind of potential scandal that could easily be swept under the rug.
"Pajamas Media will continue to work with Chris Adams to get his story out. He will have more details for us next Tuesday, after his scheduled testimony before the United States Commission on Civil Rights." Roger L Simon

The Mainstream Media ; Fortney "Pete" Stark (D-Calif) Shows His Contempt For Constituents; MSM Lapdogs Barely Woof

Big Journalism   "You would hope the people of California might catch on to someone like Stark, but if nobody in the press reports on behavior like this, maybe it never happened. After all, if a clown falls in the forest and there’s nobody there to witness it, does he make a sound?"

Which leads us, naturally, to this: Gore: 'Come on, Baby, Release my Chakra'    The comedians of the world are avoiding the Gore debacle like flies avoid vinegar. That's what we call selective coverage. If you're a liberal, you can literally get away with probable murder (Teddy Kennedy), rape (Bill Clinton), children out of wedlock (John Edwards), association with known racists and terrorists (Barack Obama), involvement with the mob (JFK), pimping out gay prostitutes from your apartment (Barney Frank) and membership in the KKK (Robert Byrd), so long as you believe in bigger government and less financial freedom. If you're a conservative, you get ousted for complimenting a racist on his 100th birthday (Trent Lott) or having a consensual affair (John Ensign, Mark Souder, etc.). That's not to say that Lott and Co. shouldn't have resigned -- it's just to say that if they'd been Democrats, they'd be sitting secure in their seats, their brows bound with victorious wreaths.

Portland police: We messed up the Gore sex investigation

Sex, Lies, and Al Gore  "And there's Al Gore himself, a puffed up version of his former self. As the Green Messiah, his head has swelled as markedly as his girth. Gore dismisses any notion that the numbers around global warming have been cooked. When he recently testified before Congress, his contempt for mere mortals was evident." Robin of Berkeley
How in the world did we get from Pete Stark to this?

More Anti-Christian Propaganda From ‘Law & Order’

Big Hollywood "The incorporation of a premise intended to cast doubt on the foundations of Christianity is entirely unnecessary as a means of generating interest or suspense: anything that any character might find important could have motivated the murder. Consequently it’s obvious that the producers chose this story element because they liked the idea of imagining that some long-hidden document will prove Christianity a myth."
