Examiner.com..."In an exclusive interview with NewsMax TV on Saturday, Alan Dershowitz, a lawyer, jurist, author, political commentator and a prominent scholar on constitutional and criminal law stated that the charges against the Baltimore police officers would be dropped due to lack of evidence. Dershowitz appeared on NewsMaxs', “The Steve Malzberg Show” in which he explained that this is not only a sad day in America but also that under the Constitution, the only people who are entitled to justice are the defendants, those who are charged with a crime, not based on political justice or agendas.

"Dershowitz told Malzberg, “This is a very sad day for justice. Today had nothing to do with justice. Today was crowd control. Everything was motivated by a threat of riots and a desire to prevent riots. The mayor outrageously said we're going to get justice for the victim, the family and people of Baltimore, never mentioning the defendants. Under our Constitution, the only people who are entitled to justice are the defendants.”
“ 'They are presumed innocent, they need due process of law, and the mayor and the state attorney have made it virtually impossible for these defendants to get a fair trial. They have been presumed guilty, “Dershowitz said. “I understand why the mayor and state attorney want to prevent riots… but that's not the job of the justice system. You cannot allow police officers or any other defendants to become scapegoats for crowds demanding a continuation of rioting.”
"Dershowitz’s comments comes days after the start of the riots and the ensuing decision by the Mayor of Baltimore who issued orders for the police to stand down and not fight back. As a result, over 100 Baltimore police officers were injured and some had to take medical leave due to the seriousness of their injuries. The Baltimore Police Capt. Eric Kowalczyk had stated they were not pelted with pebbles, but with bricks and some with embedded glass were thrown at his officers."
