Give me liberty or give me Obama

Obama pushes to extend gun background checks to Social Security
"Seeking tighter controls over firearm purchases, the Obama administration is pushing to ban Social Security beneficiaries from owning guns if they lack the mental capacity to manage their own affairs, a move that could affect millions whose monthly disability payments are handled by others.

"The push is intended to bring the Social Security Administration in line with laws regulating who gets reported to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, or NICS, which is used to prevent gun sales to felons, drug addicts, immigrants in the country illegally and others.

"A potentially large group within Social Security are people who, in the language of federal gun laws, are unable to manage their own affairs due to "marked subnormal intelligence, or mental illness, incompetency, condition, or disease."
. . .
"More than half of the names on the VA list are of people 80 or older, often suffering from dementia, a reasonable criterion for prohibiting gun ownership.

"But the category also includes anybody found by a "court, board, commission or other lawful authority" to be lacking "the mental capacity to contract or manage his own affairs" for a wide variety of reasons.

"The agency's efforts have been criticized by a variety of groups.

"Rosen, the Yale psychiatrist, said some veterans may avoid seeking help for mental health problems out of fear that they would be required to give up their guns." . . .

Krauthammer; The price of fetal parts

 Political Cartoons by Michael Ramirez
Charles Krauthammer
“Thank you, Planned Parenthood. God bless you.”
— Barack Obama, address to Planned Parenthood, April 26, 2013

"Planned Parenthood’s reaction to the release of a clandestinely recorded conversation about the sale of fetal body parts was highly revealing. After protesting that it did nothing illegal, it apologized for the “tone” of one of its senior directors.

"Her remarks lacked compassion, admitted Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards. As if Dr. Deborah Nucatola’s cold and casual discussion over salad and wine of how the fetal body can be crushed with forceps in a way that leaves valuable organs intact for sale is some kind of personal idiosyncrasy. On the contrary, it’s precisely the kind of psychic numbing that occurs when dealing daily with industrial scale destruction of the growing, thriving, recognizably human fetus.
. . .
"What will be the reaction to these Planned Parenthood revelations? Right now, to try to deprive it of taxpayer money. Citizens repelled by its activities should not be made complicit in them. But why not shift the focus from the facilitator to the procedure itself?

"The House has already passed a bill banning abortion after 20 weeks. That’s far more fruitful than trying to ban it entirely because, apart from the obvious constitutional issue, there is no national consensus about the moral status of the early embryo. There’s more agreement on the moral status of the later-term fetus. Indeed, about two-thirds of Americans would ban abortion after the first trimester." . . .
Good grief, what is the philosophy of those in that one third?

Waiving the Flag

"We're just going to be totally up front about the fact that there's no way B. Hussein could come out ahead, in our eyes, in his long-delayed decision to lower flags to half-staff for the victims of Muhammad Abdulazeez.

"We were aghast at his original decision not to lower flags while offering up rationalizations like "that's only for senior statesmen" or "we don't want to have to decide whether or not to do it every time a service member is killed." But since this dithering represented about the standard degree of assholery from this administration, we were willing to accept it and move on.

"But now Obama has ordered the flags to be lowered. Not because it was the right and moral thing to do, but because too many angry members of the public called him out on it. In a rare instance of genuine transparency, it was clear that Obama simply wanted to bury the story as quickly as possible, along with any troubling questions about Islamic radicalism in our nation.

"Hope n' Change is glad that the victims are now being shown appropriate respect, but saddened that the tragedy of their deaths was compounded by the spectacle of a president who cared only about his own agenda."

Lafayette theater shooter identified, motive unclear. Let the politics begin.

World   "Police described the gunman who opened fire at a movie theater in Lafayette, La., Thursday evening as a “drifter” who was staying at a local Motel 6. John Russel Houser, 59, stood up about 20 minutes into a 7:10 p.m. showing of Trainwreck and fired 13 shots from a handgun. He killed two people and injured nine others before turning the gun on himself.
"Authorities searched Houser’s hotel room and found disguises, including glasses and wigs, but would not comment on a possible motive for the killings.
"Houser initially tried to leave the theater through an emergency exit after the shooting, but turned back when he saw police outside. Police found him dead in the theater from a self-inflicted gunshot wound." . . .

The left seems to have hit the Mother Lode:

The Politics of the Louisiana Theater Shooting  " People are trying to make sense of Thursday’s shooting in the Lafayette, Louisiana, movie theater. Twenty minutes into the 7:10 showing of “Trainwreck,” John Russel Houser, 59, stood up and fired a .45 pistol into the audience. He killed two and wounded nine. He tried to escape by blending into the fleeing crowd, but when two police officers quickly responded, the murderer killed himself. Later, police discovered the man’s car didn’t match its license plate, and the motel room where he was staying contained disguises like wigs and glasses. Police described him as a drifter, and there is a Tea Party Nation page set up by a man with his name. This incident comes just as a Colorado jury decided James Holmes, the man who entered a Colorado movie theater three years ago with the intent of killing as many people as possible, could be sentenced to death for his crimes. The shooting also comes hours after Barack Obama told an interviewer, “[T]he one area that I feel that I’ve been most frustrated and most stymied … is the fact that the United States is the one advanced nation on earth in which we do not have sufficient, common-sense gun safety laws.” But the greatest demonstration of character came from Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal. When asked about gun control, the presidential candidate said, “We’re just learning the details … let’s focus on the victims. Tonight’s not the night to be political.”

John Russell Houser: Lafayette Movie Theater Shooting Suspect Was Former Talk Show Host, Bar Owner "The page showed that Houser noted he attended law school at Faulkner University, then went on to become a bar owner. He owned and operated the Peachtree Pub in Columbus, Georgia, and Rusty’s Buckhead Pub in Lagrange.

"John Russell Houser also worked as a talk show host, filling in on Rise and Shine, an early morning show on WLTZ in Columbus.

Criminal Inquiry Is Sought in Clinton Email Account

These first three from Drudge:
CNBC   "Two inspectors general have asked the Justice Department to open a criminal investigation into whether sensitive government information was mishandled in connection with the personal email account Hillary Rodham Clinton used as secretary of state, senior government officials said Thursday." . . .

New York Times alters Clinton email story   "The New York Times made small but significant changes to an exclusive report about a potential criminal investigation into Hillary Clinton's State Department email account late Thursday night, but provided no notification of or explanation for of the changes. . . .
The Times also changed the headline of the story, from "Criminal Inquiry Sought in Hillary Clinton’s Use of Email" to "Criminal Inquiry Is Sought in Clinton Email Account," reflecting a similar recasting of Clinton's possible role. The article's URL was also changed to reflect the new headline.
Ron Fournier:  Clinton's Conspiracy of Secrecy Worthy of Criminal Probe . . . "The Clinton campaign doesn't – and can't – deny the nut of this story. Two Obama administration inspectors general want a criminal investigation into whether her personal email system contributed to the release of classified information.

"A rogue email system that:
-- violated clear White House policy.
-- shielded her work from congressional oversight, media inquiries, or any accountability.
-- contributed to a conspiracy of secrecy worthy of criminal inquiry.

BREAKING: Hillary’s Hopes For The Presidency May Now Lie With Obama’s New Attorney General   "The scandal surrounding emailgate — then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email account managed on a personal server — has just been escalated to a higher level that could prove extremely damaging to Mrs. Clinton’s hopes for the White House.

"The New York Times reports that the Justice Department has been asked to open “a criminal investigation into whether sensitive government information was mishandled in connection with the personal email account Hillary Rodham Clinton used as secretary of state, senior government officials said Thursday.”
. . . Mrs. Clinton recently drew a fair share of snickers and snide comments when she boasted to a CNN interviewer, “People should and do trust me.” Should Obama’s attorney general decide that a criminal probe is warranted into Hillary’s emails and their possibly classified content, even the presidential candidate herself would be hard-pressed to make that statement again with a straight face.. . .

Is There a “White Privilege” Tax in America’s Future?

Voice of Lillpop    "Now that “white privilege” is officially a part of the American lexicon, it is just a matter of time until some off-her-medications granny-nut like Nancy Pelosi proposes a “White Privilege” tax to punish lily- white Americans for their pigmentation, AND for those still- being- invented micro-aggressive attitudes and behavior, especially Caucasians who also happen to be Republican, Christian, anti-terrorism and whom oppose infanticide, also known as abortion!

"Liberals will spin it so that the new white tax sounds vital to the national defense and a critical element in kicking the buttocks of climate change.

Without this new tax, liberals will contend, places like Ferguson, Baltimore, and Charleston will become unmanageably hot, and perhaps even under water in a matter of months.

"America will surely fall into anarchy, they will warn.

"Chicago is not included in the above list only because everyone knows that the Godfather/Mayor and hard-boiled Jew in charge, Rahm Emanuel, has already driven the Windy City into anarchy and ruin. Behind underwater might be the only thing that can save this cesspool of liberal failure!

"It has been written, “One cannot squeeze blood from a turnip,” a particularly apt truism, when it comes to the massive ruins remaining after years of progressive “governance” in the windy city." . . .

Ted Cruz Crushes Code Pink

PowerLine   "Earlier today, Ted Cruz spoke to a rally protesting the administration’s Iran deal. Representatives of Code Pink and other radical groups, representing the establishment, crashed the rally and tried to shout him down. Cruz responded by inviting the leftists to the podium, where he engaged them in a civil debate. Medea Benjamin represented Code Pink, and another leftist or two was also heard from.

"Did Cruz crush them? He did. Maybe that sounds easy, but try arguing with leftists in the midst of a howling crowd, while somehow maintaining control over the microphone and the dialogue. Cruz is a brilliant guy. We knew that. But what he did today deserves all the credit in the world. It isn’t easy to get down in the mud with leftists like Code Pink, and engage them on a rational basis. Kudos to Senator Cruz:

A New Syndrome: Anything But Islam

American Thinker  "The disease affecting many on the political Left in America, the A.B.I.S. (Anything But Islam Syndrome), is one of the most baffling illnesses to hit our shores in centuries. From President Obama claiming that Islamists who call themselves “Islamic State” and commit terrorist acts in the name of Islam is “not Islamic” to Hollywood limousine liberals like Ben Affleck losing control and blasting talk show host and fellow Left winger, Bill Maher, calling him “ugly, gross and racist” for stating that radical Islamists kill people, the disease is impossible to understand.

"Examples of liberals defending jihadist behavior are far too numerous to detail. From elected officials to entertainers to grandmas and college students on social media, they can be found by the millions singing a similar tune, defending people who are beheading, dropping off buildings, burning, drowning, burying alive, and worse (if they can think of worse) in the name of service to their god.  The White House, via State Dept. Deputy Spokesperson Marie Huff, has gone so far as to suggest a driving force behind such bombings and beheadings being a lack of quality jobs. Yeah, jobs! That’s it.  A lousy job leads you to cut people’s heads off! Anything but Islam." . . .Read more

Obama faces political minefield during Kenyan 'homecoming'

US president’s visit to land of his father has sparked Obama-mania, but critics question decision to meet Uhuru Kenyatta and Ethiopia’s authoritarian regime

Guardian   "Everyone thought Francis Oduor was dead. In fact the Kenyan international footballer had fled into the bush, walked four miles and gone into hiding after his house was torched. When he resurfaced, people were shocked and ashamed. “I was like the walking dead,” he said. “Everyone recoiled at the sight of me.”
"Like many survivors of the post-election violence in 2007-8 that claimed at least 1,100 lives here, Oduor feels that justice has not been done because no senior politician has been held to account. He therefore refuses to join in the state-sponsored euphoria around Barack Obama’s “homecoming” to Kenya, which begins on Friday night when Air Force One lands in east Africa’s biggest economy.

"It will be Obama’s first visit to the land of his father as US president and a far cry from a 1988 trip when his luggage got lost. He will be greeted by the stars and stripes flying all over the capital, Nairobi, and giant billboards and paintings bearing his face with slogans such as “Welcome home”. Last-minute beautification projects include the painting of street kerbs and planting of flowers and grass, while 10,000 police officers will protect the honoured guest.

"Yet beneath the shiny surface lies a political minefield." . . .

Iran, sure...Hey, look! Climate change!

Thousands rally in Times Square against Iran deal  "An estimated 10,000 people jammed Times Square in New York City to rally against the Iran nuclear agreement.

"Apparently, that wasn't enough people to catch the attention of the New York Times, who feature a $15-an-hour minimum wage protest of a couple of dozen people on the front page, but not thousands rallying against the Iran deal."
. . .
"Indeed, Google News shows only a handful of news outlets who bothered to cover the rally, most of them foreign sources.  CNN has nothing on the rally, either.  The Washington Post front page features a story about Kerry's salesmanship, but not a word about the rally." . . .
