‘Social Justice’: What Khmer Rouge And Bernie Sanders Share. Trigger warning, snowflakes; head for your safe space!

. . . "Much has been made of the signature economic failures of the Democratic candidate’s professed socialism. The ongoing economic collapse in Venezuela is Exhibit A. But going hand in hand with socialism is “social justice” a concept that sounds noble for its presumption to level “the distribution of advantages and disadvantages in society,” in the name of equality. “My run for office was a manifestation of commitment to social justice,” Sanders said as he began his presidential run.
"And “social justice” made another appearance, this time, in the form of what they did in Cambodia after the last helicopter lifted off from the U.S. embassy roof in Saigon in 1975, an act explicitly sought by Sanders’ anti-war left." . . .   Via Lucianne

"Although Hope n' Change usually turns a deaf ear to celebrity political endorsements, we have to give serious consideration to beloved centenarian Dick Van Dyke's endorsement of the marginally-younger Bernie Sanders.

" 'Bernie has lit a fire," said Van Dyke, while cracking open walnuts and staring fixedly at their strange, glowing contents. "He's caught the eye and minds of young people. We've got to put him in the White House." And perhaps get him a nice bowler hat.

"Asked if he's joking about the endorsement, an unusually sober Van Dyke admitted to reporters that "I seem to have lost my sense of humor" about politics. . . "

Let's really be able to say we considered Mr. Trump, shall we?

Ron Fournier: My Love-Hate Relationship With Donald Trump  . . . "I hate how he exploits the media’s lust for ratings and clicks, trading access for softball questions. I hate how almost every interview is an autopsy of the horserace rather than a test of his mettle. I hate how he bullies opponents and plays footsie with the truth. God, I hate how he lies." . .    Via Lucianne
I’m having trouble expressing my disdain for Trump without appearing to cast aspersions upon his supporters, or to be a defender of the establishment. So let me be clear. I loathe him. I respect his supporters. And I hope that after Trump is finished grinding the gears of the political machine in 2016 Americans find a better vehicle for change.
UPDATE: Trump threatens owners of Chicago Cubs  "Earlier this month, Donald Trump called for a boycott of Apple products if Apple didn’t unlock a terrorist phone for the feds, even though the case is in the courts.
"I made this comment at the time:
What, me worry about him in control of the IRS, FBI, DOJ, CIA, NSA, EPA, and Park Police?
"Senator Ben Sasse made a similar comment on Twitter yesterday, after Trump threatened the owners of the Chicago Cubs for spending money against him in the campaign:" . . .

With GOP nomination looming, Trump is slated to take witness stand in fraud trial   . . . "This spring, just as the GOP nomination battle enters its final phase, frontrunner Donald Trump could be forced to take time out for some unwanted personal business: He’s due to take the witness stand in a federal courtroom in San Diego, where he is being accused of running a financial fraud."
This must go back to when Trump was a Democrat. He can always run as a Democrat and be admired as Hillary and Bill still are.
"In court filings last Friday, lawyers for both sides in a long-running civil lawsuit over the now defunct Trump University named Trump on their witness lists. " . . .
Trump is accused of financially threatening woman during secret deposition  . . . "The accusation was made in a motion by the woman . . .  to withdraw as lead plaintiff, asserting she has been “put through the wringer” by Trump and his lawyers and forced to “suffer daily with the fear that she could be bankrupted by Trump.”

William Kristol: Against Trump Fatalism  . . . "And this is all before further debates, before any sustained television advertising assault on Trump, while the other candidates are still (foolishly) sniping at each other instead of taking on Trump. And in a circumstance where the frontrunner has unusual vulnerabilities." . . .

NRO: Trump Is Not Leading a Conservative Revolt  . . . "But it should be obvious at this point that Cruz and Trump are tapping into very different sources of voter energy, and Trump’s source — a decidedly non-conservative populist movement — is far more potent and dangerous." . .

Dear Republican Sirs: It’s Up to You to Save the Republic

 Political Cartoons by Ken Catalino
Walter Shapiro:Roll Call   . . . "Candidate Trump represents something that goes far beyond pedestrian fears of damage to the Republican brand or the loss of Senate and House seats. He is the embodiment of the authoritarian temptation that has imperiled liberty since the days of the Roman Republic.
"At every stage of the campaign, he has thumbed his nose at democratic norms. Start with his admiration for Vladimir Putin. Instead of position papers, Trump offers the voters fact-free assertions about the Mexicans paying for a wall and the Chinese knuckling to his superior negotiating ability.
"Never in modern history has a serious presidential candidate displayed such contempt for responsibilities that come with the Oval Office and custody of the nuclear codes.
"His ignorance of the nuclear triad and his claim that he gets his foreign policy expertise from watching TV talk shows symbolizes something larger — an ego that makes Napoleon seem self-effacing." . . .

Weasel Of The Week Nominees! – 02/23/16

Noisy Room   "It’s time once again for the Watcher’s Council’s ‘Weasel Of The Week’ nominations, where we pick our choices to compete for the award of the famed Golden Weasel to a public figure who particularly deserves to be slimed and mocked for his or her dastardly deeds during the week. Every Tuesday morning, tune in for the Weasel of the Week nominations!
"Here are this week’s nominees…
Bolivian Presidente Evo Morales! "Evo Morales, aspiring to be president-for-life of Bolivia, and his girlfriend and her Chinese contracts i!  nvolving civil engineering projects, sugar mills, oil, and a railroad, amounting over $500 million USD."

‘Journalist’ Christopher Ingraham of the Washington Post!!  Christopher Ingraham of the Washington Post is using a self-described anti-gun propaganda web site to lie about the number of mass shootings that have occurred in the United States this year . . .
My fascination with propaganda began some years ago when I was studying journalism at Berkeley (fight on you Bears!) and continues unabated. The way it distills a message down to its basest form, and focuses its all on getting that message across and grabbing attention is what draws me in so much.

Twitter CEO And Anti-Free Speech Gauleiter Jack Dorsey!!
"I’m going to nominate Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey for saying in extreme weasel-like fashion, that “Twitter stands for freedom of expression, speaking truth to power, and empowering dialogue. That starts with safety.”
"His emphasis was on “safety” (for special SSW snowflakes) over freedom of expression, truth to power, etc.
"With the company’s decision to appoint an Orwellian “Trust and Safety Council,” freedom of expression and the ability to speak truth to power has already come under assault.
"Dorsey appointed assorted lefties and Social Justice Warriors like Anita Sarkeesian to be on the council and it hasn’t taken them long to use it as a platform to go after critics of feminism:" . . .

"Well, there it is. What a despicable group of  Weasels… ANY OF THEM COULD WIN! Check back Thursday to see which Weasel walks off with the statuette of shame!"

University president celebrates ‘inclusiveness’ by excluding conservative speaker

Thomas Lifson  "William Covino, president of California State University Los Angeles, has canceled a planned speech by Breitbart editor-at-large and conservative brainiac Ben Shaprio three days before it was to take place.  All in the name of inclusiveness, bringing to mind the notorious Vietnam War statement, “We had to destroy the village to save it.”

"In doing so, he has set the stage for what could be a major confrontation, as the speech’s sponsor, Young Americans for Freedom, has vowed to proceed with the speech, titled “When diversity becomes a problem,” regardless of the loss of the sanction by Covino.  Will the university president attempt to silence the speech?
"The rationale for Covino’s action is ridiculous on its face.
In an email to the Young America’s Foundation chapter at CSULA, university president William Covino wrote, “After careful consideration, I have decided that it will be best for our campus community if we reschedule Ben Shapiro’s appearance for a later date, so that we can arrange for him to appear as part of a group of speakers with differing viewpoints on diversity. Such an event will better represent our university’s dedication to the free exchange of ideas and the value of considering multiple viewpoints.”

"Shapiro is one of the smartest and most eloquent speakers on the right.  His talk, if it is not shut down, would be a tonic for the brainwashed students at CSULA"

CSULA students have reportedly said the event poses a “threat to their lives” and is “damaging to their mental health.”

. . . "Additionally, the YAF noted the fact that the public college has frequently hosted liberal speakers without offering a conservative counterbalance. In the past, CSULA has hosted Dr. Cornel West, who addressed “Post Racialism,” among others. And on Wednesday, Angela Davis and Tim Wise will deliver a lecture titled “Exploring Whiteness.' ” . . .

Jeb! cartoons close-out sale! Everything must go!

Barbara warned Jeb (and us)
. . . "While the nation has been focused on who will be our first black or female president, no attention has been given to who will be our last preppy president.  George W. Bush may prove to be the last.  Race, gender, ethnicity, and religion are no longer the concerns they once were, even as recently as the 2008 election.  We have come a long way since JFK’s religion was a major consideration.
"The Democrats’ strategy of identity politics is stale and becomes more so each year." . . .

Vetting Trump

"Fox News and Wall Street Journal opposition to Donald Trump as he marches inexorably toward the GOP nomination in July recalls the furious anti-Napoleon headlines in the Paris republican newspapers in 1815 when the deposed emperor landed in France after his first exile and began his march to Paris. “The Bastard Has Reached Boulogne!” the headlines screamed on the first day. Then a week later they read, “The Monster is at Marseilles!” Then three days later, “The Viper Has Reached Versailles!” Then the next day, the headlines proclaimed, “His Majesty Has Arrived!”  Comedian Argus Hamilton

Trump’s Foreign-Policy Legacy: Not Having a Foreign Policy   . . ."In fact, if Trump leaves the campaign, that might be his foreign policy legacy: he managed to remain the front-runner and command the election coverage for an astonishingly long period of time without making any visible effort to learn the complex foreign policy and national security issues that would constitute his major responsibility were he to win. If the 2012 campaign showed the also-rans the dangers of not preparing adequately, is the 2016 campaign showing how far you can go without bothering to do that homework?

Trump confuses Ben Carson for Barack Obama during a campaign stop in South Carolina

What Do the Trump Voters Want? . . . "Now in 2016 the rest of America is rallying to Donald Trump who will Make America Great Again. And what will he deliver?" . . .

Poll: Trump leads Kasich in Ohio   "Trump takes 31 percent support, followed by the Ohio governor, at 26 percent; Sen. Ted Cruz(Texas), at 21 percent; and Sen. Marco Rubio (Fla.), at 13 percent, in the Quinnipiac University poll released early Tuesday."
"Retired pediatric neurosurgeon Ben Carson gets 5 percent . . .

Donald Trump: Thin-Skinned Tyrant  . . . "None of us wants to be insulted or smeared. But sharia forbids not only ridicule or slander against Islam; it bans any examination that casts Islam in an unflattering light. Worse, truth is not a defense: Even if one’s questions are based on undeniable past actions or verbatim quotes from scripture, tough questioning is considered blasphemous. Retribution, moreover, is often completely out of proportion to the scale of the perceived “offense.”
"How is Trump different?
"They say politics ain’t beanbag: People in and around it eventually get slammed by opponents and other critics. But to Trump, the mildest criticisms are “vicious” attacks."
Trump’s Yuuge Lies  . . . "Is Trump actually committed to rolling back government-run health care? No. Last fall — on a Republican debate stage, no less — he touted the virtues of single-payer health care. And on abortion, Planned Parenthood funding, the crisis in Syria, Syrian refugees, his opinion of the flat tax, and a host of other issues, it’s simply impossible to know what Trump actually thinks, because he has repeatedly taken contradictory positions."  Read more

Pennsylvania teen hailed a hero for rescuing girl from abductor

"Here's a question: why isn't the name "Temar Boggs" as well known as "Treyvon Martin" or "Michael Brown"? "  America 101
Young men like this were usually victims of people like Michael Brown, I'd say

Hero Teen Temar Boggs Rescues Abducted Girl
"Temar Boggs, 15, is being hailed as a hero in his Lancaster Township, Pennsylvania home, after he rescued a five-year-old girl from her abductor.
Boggs was hanging with friends Thursday when they were approached by a man who asked them if they had seen Jocelyn Rojas, the little girl who had gone missing that day. The teen and his friend, Chris Garcia, decided to help look for the girl and set off on their bikes. As they searched for the missing girl, a maroon car caught the attention of Temar Boggs. Police officers were at the scene and gathered in the street outside the apartment when Rojas lived. Boggs noticed the maroon car approach the scene and then turn around, after which, it began to travel erratically up and down nearby side streets. Boggs decided to investigate and set off after the suspicious car. He could see Jocelyn Rojas in the back of the car and he also got a look at the driver, an older white man.
The man driving the car clearly became aware of the two teen boys following him on their bikes, as he stopped the car and allowed Rojas to get out. After a moment, Rojas ran up to Boggs and told him that she needed her mom. Boggs and Garcia then took the girl to police officers.
The suspect disappeared at that time but was arrested Friday. Police attributed his arrest in part to the description provided to them by the teen boys and by the abducted girl herself. " . . .

The Foreign Policy Conversation Democrats Would Rather Not Have

Legal Insurrection
"That would be defending the indefensible foreign policy of the Obama administration"
2016-02-21_231535_Sanders_Clinton

"If you receive Morning Insurrection, you would have seen Prof. Miriam Elman’s recommendation to read Jonah Goldberg’s piece on the importance of foreign policy in the upcoming election. . . .

"Goldberg wrote:
"We can debate how much blame Obama deserves for Syria’s civil war, but almost no one outside his paid staff disputes that he’s only made things worse. The conflict there has set off the worst humanitarian crisis in Europe since the end of World War II — that’s John Kerry’s own assessment — which may yet tear the European Union asunder.
"The instability closer to the fighting is even more dangerous. Russia and Turkey may soon go to war with one another, as Russia mercilessly and indiscriminately massacres anyone standing in the way of its pet, Syrian president Bashar al-Assad. The Jordanian monarchy may crumble, in part for a lack of assistance from the United States.
"And yet, the gravity of the situation has yet to enter into the presidential contest in a serious way. As a co-author of Obama’s disastrous foreign policy, Hillary Clinton has no interest in calling attention to the global catastrophes unfolding around us. Bernie Sanders doesn’t want to talk about anything he can’t blame on billionaires, and Donald Trump doesn’t want to talk about anything other than his poll numbers, his insults, and the fraudulent claim that he predicted all of this before Bush launched the war in Iraq."

. . .  "Pew poll in December showed that, in the wake of the Paris and San Bernardino terror attacks, terrorism is now the top concern among Americans at 18%. National security is third at 8%. A year ago those issues were listed by 1% and 2% of Americans, respectively. Worse for the Democrats, the same poll showed that American trust Republicans more on matters of national security over Democrats by a margin of 46% to 34%." . . .
