NEW YORK TIMES FACT CHECKERS: BED REST IS WORK!

Coulter
By Ann Coulter at Human Events    "The New York Times claims that Romney’s ad “falsely” charges Obama with eliminating work requirements. CNN rates the ad “false.” Underemployed hack Howard Fineman says Romney’s ad “is just flat out wrong on the facts” and “that every fair analyst, every fact checker” has said it’s “just factually wrong.”

"When a campaign ad induces this much hysteria, you know Romney has struck gold. On closer examination, it turns out that by “every fair analyst,” Fineman means a bunch of liberals quoting one another."
....  "It is striking that everyone who actually knows something about the 1996 welfare reform law says that Romney’s ad is accurate."

Reading list about the Tuesday RNC

NRO; Chris Christie: The Statesman  "He may be a YouTube sensation, best known for arguing with lefty hecklers, but Governor Chris Christie’s keynote speech late Tuesday was a temperate oration, forceful yet muted."   Text of Christie's speech.

Rick Moran; A subdued Keynote address from Christie  "This was obviously the way Romney wanted it -- a risky strategy considering that the Obama campaign has all but accused the GOP nominee of being a murderer, a felon, a tax dodge, and a greedy rich guy who enjoys putting ordinary folk out of work."  Please! Not another McCain campaign!

Christie says, "Enough is enough!"  "Then he launched into his attack, which was an attack on the character of President Obama as much as an attack on his policies."

Ann Coulter Upset Chris Christie Did Not Attack Obama "Though he received a standing ovation for lines like "they believe in teachers unions, we believe in teachers," Christie's language was immediately criticized for being too generic."
Larry Kudlow; The Star of Last Night Was Ann Romney "She described her work with, and empathy for, those less fortunate. Her description of Mitt as the man who “will not fail” was a terrific line."   Text of Ann Romney's speech

Reuters; In high-stakes convention speech, Ann Romney connects

PJ Media; Ann Romney: Mitt ‘Is the Man America Needs’  "She criticized those who have chided Romney for his wealth. “Are those really the values that made this country great?” she said. “Do we want to raise our children to be afraid of success?”

Meanwhile, Democrats teach us about civility: Obama jokes about the Republicans

When Tolerance Attacks: The Death Wish Double Standard  "The message here seems clear: In the name of Tolerance, you must conform - or else!"

Artur Davis Electrifies RNC   "Former Rep. Artur Davis (D-AL), the man who gave one of the nomination speeches for President Barack Obama before becoming a Republican and moving to Virginia, spoke tonight at the Republican National Committee, where he electrified the crowd with a spectacular attack on the presidency of Barack Obama."

ABC News: Romneys ‘Happy to Have a Party When Black People Drown’ "The anti-Romney joke was made while the person, presumably an ABC News producer, was on an active microphone, apparently unaware that his/her quips against the former Massachusetts governor were being recorded and broadcast live."
Leftist press is contemptible;
Pathetic: MSNBC Cuts Speeches Given by Minorities at RNC From Coverage "To fuel their false "GOP is racist" argument, MSNBC conveniently cut every speech given by a minority from their RNC coverage tonight. Francesca Chambers at Red Alert has the evidence:
Via Lucianne. Excellent commentary on this at Mediaite

Weasel Zippers; Congressional Black Caucus Attacks Former Dem Artur Davis For Supporting Romney…  Read their letter of reprimand and see the signatures for yourself.

Haters Hack Mia Love’s Wiki Page And Call Her A House “N”  (Offensive, but I want you to see what Obama supporters do)

Political Cartoons by Lisa Benson
The Weekly Standard; The Rabbi and the Governor  "You have called us to be a beacon of freedom to the world, and an ally of free countries like the state of Israel, an island of liberty, democracy, and hope."

Peggy Noonan; Ann Romney and Chris Christie  "[Delegates] walked out like people who weren’t quite sure what to think or how to feel but were hoping for the best because they love their country. A lot."

Rick Moran; Ann Romney a winner even if her husband loses   "Inasmuch as it is possible to do in 20 minutes to undo what the Obama campaign has spent many months creating...."

Legal Insurrection; Ann Romney skewers that big talking phony, without mentioning his name   "He is a poser, a money-hungry power-grabbing phony who brags about how much he cares about others while lining his pockets and playing people off against each other to advance himself.  I saw through his stage act early on, as the rest of the nation had the tingles."

William Sullivan; Juan Williams Spreads Democrats' Racist Narrative  "But the most hilarious thing is that, by proxy, he is suggesting that Michelle Obama just exudes this normalcy that Ann Romney lacks."

Jennifer Rubin; What if the GOP diversified and no one noticed?  "Over time, a more diverse country will require a more diverse GOP, if it hopes to remain a national party. Republicans are convinced that the party’s policies are the best solution to poverty, inequality and other societal ills. The appeal of those policies to non-white, non-male voters will be tested, with more effective messengers than the party has produced in a very long time."
Tony Branco

Doug Powers; If last night’s GOP convention seemed to have a stunning lack of diversity…
…you were probably watching MSNBC:  (Hat tip to Michelle Malkin)

  • When popular Tea Party candidate Ted Cruz, the GOP nominee for Senate, took the stage, MSNBC cut away from the Republican National Convention and the Hispanic Republican from Texas’ speech.
  • MSNBC stayed on commercial through former Democratic Rep. Artur Davis’ speech, as well. Davis, who recently became a Republican, is black.
  • Then, when Puerto Rican Governor Luis Fortuno’s wife Luce’ Vela Fortuño took the stage minutes later, MSNBC hosts Rachel Maddow and Chris Matthews opted to talk over the First Lady’s speech.
  • And Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval? Noticeably missing from MSNBC, too.
  • Mia Love, a black candidate for Congress in Utah, was also ignored by MSNBC.

The rebel yell that struck terror into the hearts of Northern soldiers

"In this exclusive clip from the 1930s, Confederate veterans step up to the mic and let out their version of the fearsome rallying cry"

How many people can say they have heard an authentic Rebel Yell?
"To our knowledge this is the only surviving example of the Rebel Yell given by one of the 140,000 Tar Heels who defended the state of North Carolina. We encourage you to listen to this voice from the past, read the see information below to learn of the man behind the voice and how this audio treasure came to be recorded for posterity."

Below: The rebel yell is depicted in this History Channel film, "Gettysburg" just after the 39 minute mark as Confederate General Barksdale's Mississippians attack Sickle's III Corps in the peach orchard near the wheatfield.

The rebel yell was thought to be Celtic or perhaps Commanche in origin.    More on this here.

For non-US readers, the term "Yankee" was a Confederate term for northern -Union- soldier.

DEMOCRAT CONVENTION TO PROCEED WITH 2-HOUR ISLAMIC ‘JUMAH’ PRAYERS (AND YOU WON‘T BELIEVE WHO’S INVITED)

The Blaze  "The host committee for the Democratic National Convention is raising a number of eyebrows after choosing to proceed with featuring Islamic “Jumah” prayers for two hours on the Friday of its convention, though Democrats earlier denied a Catholic cardinal’s request to say a prayer at the same event." (Cardinal Dolan has since been invited to bring the closing prayer.)

Watch the promotional video via the Bureau of Muslim Affairs, which claims it is hosting the event “at the Democratic National Convention.”  The first two minutes are rather dry, but around 2:04 a muezzin sings the call to prayer with an American flag background, and the video “picks up” considerably

"Dr. Zuhdi Jasser, a devout Muslim and the Founder and President of the American Islamic Forum for Democracy, wrote:"
The leaders of this event – Jibril Hough and Imam Siraj Wahhaj [are not] moderates. They are radicals. These individuals embrace Islamist supremacy and have demonstrated support for radical ideologies.
...."In particular, the event will target the Patriot Act, the NYPD, the National Defense Authorization Act, and anti-Shariah sentiment."
...." Robert Spencer speculates that the Democrat National Committee is simply so “in thrall to multiculturalism” that “few, if any” are even aware of the radical connections.
“To raise any concerns about such a speaker would be ‘Islamophobic,’ violating every rule of the anti-American, anti-Western ethos that prevails among so many Democrats today,” Spencer writes."

Navy SEALs ad to be shown at Tuesday's Republican convention: We Bow To Nobody

" “The ad itself accurately portrays where this President is,” said Zinke. “It accurately portrays his core belief that America should not lead. This president is shaping America to be one of the followers, to relinquish our role as a world leader. I didn’t fight 23 years as a Navy SEAL to watch America bow to anybody.” "

Tribute to a fallen comrade: New Zealand soldiers perform a Haka to say farewell

Blackfive   "As a huge fan of the All Blacks, this one got to me...if you don't know what the Haka
(traditional Maori war dance) is, go here to watch the All Blacks do one before a match."

I'd love a sendoff like this one, but it would have to be earned the hard way.TD

‘Kill Mitt Romney’ Facebook Page Was Online for 17 Days

Washington Free Beacon   "A Facebook page entitled “Kill Mitt Romney” garnered close to 30 likes and remained online for 17 days before Facebook removed the page Monday.
"The Secret Service was aware of the the page and is taking “appropriate investigative steps,” according to FoxNews.com."

Watch Out New Orleans….. Isaac Bearing Down. How do the Democrats feel about it all?

The Last Refuge;  (NOAA ) AT 400 PM CDT…2100 UTC…THE CENTER OF TROPICAL STORM ISAAC WAS LOCATED BY AN AIR FORCE RESERVE RECONNAISSANCE AIRCRAFT NEAR
LATITUDE 26.4 NORTH…LONGITUDE 86.2 WEST. ISAAC IS MOVING TOWARD
THE NORTHWEST NEAR 12 MPH…19 KM/H…AND THIS GENERAL MOTION IS
EXPECTED TO CONTINUE TODAY WITH A GRADUAL DECREASE IN FORWARD
SPEED. ON THE FORECAST TRACK…

But Isaac has slowed down and that is bad!

Actor Samuel L. Jackson says it's 'unfair' that Isaac missed the GOP convention  "Twitter has been the site of some seriously deranged Hollywood lefties musings on Isaac and their wish that it would have killed Republicans, or disrupted the convention." Including Ellen Barkin.

Boortz on Isaac Versus RNC   "Now I’m no political strategist, so I have no clue how you handle this.  Canceling the convention seems extreme, but even if the GOP did that (which it won’t), it won’t stop the ObamaMedia from coming up with a narrative which ultimately paints the GOP as the bad guys." Also here.

Obama campaigns during Isaac   "The storm comes at an opportune time and it may give Mr. Obama a powerful backdrop to show his leadership while Republicans are gathered in Tampa to formally nominate Mitt Romney as their presidential nominee.
"Mr. Obama said at “my direction” the Federal Emergency..."yada, yada, yada

Brokaw, Scarborough Enable Chris Matthews' Racialist Attack on RNC Chair

Matthews
Big Journalism   "What is noteworthy, however, is that as Matthews launches his rabid and irresponsible racialist smear against RNC Chair Reince Priebus, both Tom Brokaw and Joe Scarborough just sit there like cowards as Matthews does the impossible: allows his lunacy of lies to give the Peacock Network yet another black eye."
....

"Brokaw is supposed to be the Lion of NBC, its Anchor Emeritus and wizened conscience. If you watch the video, though, Brokaw acts like a bystander even though he's seated right next to Matthews during this disgraceful attack. Well, Brokaw doesn't do nothing the entire time. Near the end of the clip, he piles on the racialist "guilt by association" attack with his own list of ad hominems.
"Impossibly, Scarborough's even worse. This go-along-to-get-an-MSNBC-show Republican patronizes Matthews during the first half of the exchange. When Matthews really lets the spittle fly during the second half,  Scarborough proves he doesn’t even have the sand to exert control over…his own show."
MSNBC anchor Chris Matthews — not Mitt Romney — is the one playing the race card, according to Newt Gingrich.   "“You sit here and chuckle about it as if it’s not a game you’re playing,” Matthews said. “You’ve got that diabolic smile of yours, and you know you think you’re winning here, but everybody out there who’s black or white know exactly the game that’s being played here.”
“No, here’s the game. You have the worst president,” Gingrich said.

From Imprimus," An Empire of Wealth: The Epic History of American Economic Power"

John Steele Gordon "Today we live in a world far beyond the imagination of those who were alive in 1607. The poorest family in America today enjoys a standard of living that would have been considered opulent 400 years ago. And for most of this time it was the United States that was leading the world into the future, politically and economically.
"This astonishing economic transformation provides rich lessons in examples of what to do and not do. Let me suggest five."
1. Governments Are Terrible Investors .... 2. Politicians Have Self-Interest Too ....3. Immigration is a Good Thing...4. Good Ideas Spread, Bad Ones Don’t....5. Markets Hate Uncertainty....

"Undoubtedly a big reason for that is the enormous uncertainty that has plagued the country since 2008. Will health care—one-sixth of the American economy—be taken over by the folks who run the post office? Will the Bush tax cuts be ended or continued? Will the corporate income tax go up or down? Will manufacturing get a special tax deal? Will so-called millionaires—who, when you listen carefully to what liberal politicians are saying, can earn as little as $200,000 a year—be forced suddenly to pay “their fair share”?
"Who knows? So firms and banks are postponing investment decisions until the future is clearer. Perhaps the clearing will happen on November 6."   pdf of this article
Mr. Gordon's articles have appeared in numerous publications, including Forbes, Worth, National Review, Commentary, the New York Times, and the Wall Street Journal. He is a contributing editor at American Heritage, where he wrote the “Business of America” column for many years, and currently writes “The Long View” column for Barron’s. He is the author of several books, including Hamilton’s Blessing: The Extraordinary Life and Times of Our National Debt, The Great Game: The Emergence of Wall Street as a World Power, and An Empire of Wealth: The Epic History of American Economic Power.

A silver lining in Tampa

A Silver Lining  "The media is so obsessed with the impact of the still mundane Tropical Storm Isaac on the political scene they may be missing the bigger picture.  Here is Isaac's predicted path versus the current drought monitor.  Nothing spells drought relief more than the aftermath of a hurricane and while it is too late for this years grain crops Isaac should help the livestock situation a bit."

Neal Boortz on RNC Coverage  "Originally, the ObamaMedia was not planning on airing the GOP speakers slated for Monday night.  One of those speakers was supposed to be Ann Romney, a very popular figure.  The ObamaMedia knows this.
"As luck would have it, Isaac managed to spoil their efforts.  We are here broadcasting today from the convention but the speakers for tonight have been canceled and many moved to nights later this week.  Looks like the ObamaMedia may be forced to carry Ann Romney’s speech after all.
"Just remember, often times media bias is in the stories you choose NOT to cover more than the way you handle the stories you DO cover."
