History revisionism; Dan Rather - Mary Mapes. Some coverage for those who are too young to know the story

The movie ‘Truth’ is as bogus as the original attempt to smear George W. Bush’s wartime service.
. . . The creative minds behind “Truth”—based on a book by the CBS report’s producer, Mary Mapes—have wrapped Mr. Rather and Ms. Mapes in a glow of heroic martyrdom so impenetrable there’s hardly a line not put to its service. When, toward the end, all involved in the report face firing, the film’s fatherly Dan Rather asks a young producer what made him want to go into journalism.
“ 'You,” comes the answer.
. . .
"In the years since this affair, Mr. Rather and Ms. Mapes have held fast to their regularly repeated assertions that whatever mistakes may have been made, they had reported a true story.
“ 'Truth”—starring Cate Blanchett as Mary Mapes facing down the enemies of the good and the true—is the latest iteration of the Mapes-Rather claim that the validity of their story wasn’t compromised merely because the supporting testimony was fabricated."

Dan Rather, Mary Mapes and the Busting of the Mainstream Media Monopoly

. . . "There is no doubt in anybody's mind that these two people made this story up or accepted a forged bunch of documents that contributed to it being a story because they wanted to effect the outcome of the 2004 race.  And so a movie has been made recounting the entire episode based on a biography written by Mary Mapes.  Now, the reason for the movie is very sympathetic to Rather and Mary Mapes and leaves open the possibility that they're the ones that got screwed, that they really were on to something.

"The reason this is done, -- again, just to remind you -- is not just to save or protect or maybe reconstitute the reputations of these people.  It is for people who are not born yet. " . . .
2004: CBS Apologizes for Report on Bush Guard Service  . . . "Network officials yesterday admitted that the man who gave them the documents had lied about where he got them, and that inconsistencies in the cloak-and-dagger account he gave them in the past few days had left CBS unable to say definitively where they came from. Moreover, CBS was unable to reach the person the man identified as his source, Mr. Rather said ." . . .

Mark Steyn: CBS defense of Rather hints at bigger story 2004. . . . "The following day Charles Johnson of the Little Green Footballs Web site drove a stake through your phony '70s memos by overlaying them with modern MS Word documents, whose automatic word wrap is amazingly an exact match with Lt. Col. Killian's ''typewriter.'' And every document expert agreed with Johnson your memos are junk, including your own analysts. "

Steyn: CBS Falls for Fake Memo
It took the savvy chappies at the Powerline Web site and Charles Johnson of “Little Green Footballs” about 20 minutes to spot the eerily 2004 look of the 1972 memo, and various Internet wallahs spent the rest of the day tracking down the country’s leading typewriter identification experts.

Say goodbye to the clock boy

'Clock Boy' Ahmed Mohammed moving to Qatar  . . . "Taking apart a 1980s-era digital clock and putting it into a pencil case so that it bore some resemblance to a bomb, and then bringing it to school for a science fair was guaranteed to trigger a Zero Tolerance reaction. School administrators have been known to throw children out of school for chewing Pop Tarts into the shape of a gun, after all. Ahmed got exactly the reaction he expected, and with his evasive answers, even got arrested. Propaganda gold! The claim that he was being persecuted because of his dark skin and Muslim name was perfect for the progressive media narrative. Never mind all those other, non-Muslim victims of idiotic Zero Tolerance school officials.

"As you no doubt know, in addition to meeting with tech luminaries, Ahmed got to the White House and met with President Obama.  And less than 24 hours later, he and his family announced they were moving to Qatar, which outbid others anxious to shower boons upon the boy and his family:" . . . Cool Crock, Ahmed
"It's been a big week for young Ahmed Mohamed, the budding genius who figured out how to stuff the guts of an electric clock into a pencil case. First he got to meet with Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir, the genocidal "Butcher of Darfur." Talk about a childhood dream come true!

"Next, the Council on American-Islamic Relations named him "
The American Muslim of the Year," apparently for going 365 days without killing anyone. Which, make no mistake, we think is a good thing - although we're not quite sure why it deserves a trophy.

"But best of all, Ahmed was finally able to make good on Barack Obama's tweeted invitation to the White House, where he attended
the 2nd annual "Astronomy Night" along with luminaries like climate change evangelist Bill Nye "The Science is Settled Dammit" Guy, and 11 astronauts who have participated in NASA's exciting Muslim outreach program and occasionally actually gone into space thanks to Islam's dramatic contributions to rocket science.

"Well, actually the contribution wasn't that dramatic. Centuries ago,  Muslims "invented" a symbol to represent the already-existing concept of "zero" - that symbol being a simple circle ("You know - for kids!").  We're not quite sure how this translates to putting a man on the moon, but surely the president couldn't say it if it wasn't true.

"Interestingly, Ahmed didn't have his (ahem) "clock" with him and he didn't get any quality one-on-one time with Mr. Obama... no doubt because the Secret Service takes security a
lot more seriously than the president wants our nation's schools to do. "

Weasel Zippers

fireobamasign

"A major coal mining company has agreed to pay $5,000 to settle charges that it violated election spending rules by distributing anti-President Obama signs in 2012.
I
"n a settlement announced Friday with the Federal Election Commission (FEC), Murray Energy Corp. admitted that it failed to disclose paying for signs that read, “STOP the WAR on COAL — FIRE OBAMA” in the months before the 2012 presidential election.

"Following a complaint by a liberal group in Ohio, FEC investigated the signs, for which Murray paid about $22,000." . . .

Gangbangers walk her halls, but this lady knows her rights

Maggie's Notebook  "We’ve seen some very powerful NRA television ads recently. This one speaks to the hundreds of thousands who lose their rights because of their address, the elderly with gang-bangers walking up and down their halls. This woman says she marched behind Martin Luther King, Jr., and she knows her rights.". . .

. . . The boy hugged the dictator just six days before Obama greeted the boy at the White House.   . . .
"Since then, the boy and his supporters have declared Americans to be “racist” and intolerant of individual Muslims because of routine American opposition to Islam’s theocratic, violent, supremacist and intolerant ideas.

Patriot Post The kid has picked up on the "white privilege" routine.
. . . ""Indeed, Ahmed said, “I’m pretty sure if I was a Caucasian male I wouldn’t have got arrested. … Pretty sure I would’ve been awarded the smartest kid in class if I was a Caucasian male.”

"Ahmed’s father is politically active and ran for office in Sudan a number of times, and the photo-op with Bashir was Ahmed’s 15 minutes of fame. The optics of an Obama-Ahmed visit didn’t look as good for Obama, though he did personally greet the boy Monday night. "

Arthur Miller-Communist

On the centenary of his birth, he remains the playwright who made anti-communism a hate crime.

. . . "It’s not that liberals have been pro-communist so much as they are antianti-communist. They dislike anti-communists more than they dislike communists. Their preferred demon isn’t Joe Stalin but Joe McCarthy. As James Burnham, the great ex-communist, put it, “for the left, the preferred enemy is always to the right.”

"But this does not suffice to describe Arthur Miller. Miller was not only anti-anti-communist; he was pro-communist. More than that, Arthur Miller had been a communist. And that’s something that students in their public schools and in our woeful universities had not and still will not learn as they are spoon-fed Miller’s left-wing morality plays. To the contrary, Miller’s most-lasting works have succeeded in portraying anti-communists as the lowest form of political troglodyte. Chief among those works, the playwright became a hero among the left for The Crucible, his political parable of the alleged excesses of anti-communism, which portrayed accused communists as innocent fighters for truth, justice, and the American way." . .

"B---- Sh-- on the pages of the New York Times"

Honest Reporting

"Nathan Thrall’s recent New York Times column is an error-filled diatribe that has no place on the pages of any legitimate newspaper. Worse than simply misleading readers, his bottom line is frightening. He claims that efforts to restore calm and prevent violence are actually not constructive:
But what does seem guaranteed is that most Palestinians will continue to believe that if the occupation is cost-free, there will be little incentive to end it.
"In other words, the path to peace lies in making the conflict more “costly” to Israelis rather than negotiating for peace. It is clear from the column (in which he cites the “success” of the previous Intifadas) that what Thrall means by “cost” is deadly violence against Israelis.

"But let’s first count the lies which he uses to come to his poisonous conclusion." . . .

Climate Change is the usual scapegoat

RedState

"I think I have figured out why Democrats are so wedded to the climate change narrative, even when it doesn’t make sense or isn’t supported by the evidence. The reason is that they have figured out that, to their own scientifically illiterate voters, climate change works as a universally applicable scapegoat. Why bother informing yourself about literally any issue under the sun when you can just blame anything that is going wrong on climate change and know that at least liberal voters will believe it.

"The latest example of this is California Governor Jerry Brown, who is blaming the recent spate of wildfires on climate change. Wildfires in California have been an issue since as at least as long as I’ve been alive, so it seems that the connection is tenuous at best. And, indeed, even people who are committed believers in climate change were forced to note that, even under the assumption that climate change is real and man made, Brown’s comments were completely full of crap:
The ash of the Rocky fire was still hot when Gov. Jerry Brown strode to a bank of television cameras beside a blackened ridge and, flanked by firefighters, delivered a battle cry against climate change.

Incitement Fuels the Knife Intifada

"Jeffrey Goldberg takes a long time to say it, but he gets some of it said. It’s not a “cycle of violence” where both sides are similar. One side is lying and inciting its people to violence, and this has been going on at least since the 1920s in very similar fashion. The current dispute concerns the history of the Temple Mount and the Dome of the Rock, and access to those sites.

"The NY Post says it more succinctly, and adds a few more things, such as the latest incident of what one might call the Muhammed al Durah phenomenon, complete with the cooperation of our State Department:
…Wednesday…Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said in a speech that Israeli security forces “executed” an innocent 13-year-old boy, Ahmad Mansara, “in cold blood.”

The story has fueled Palestinian anger for days. A photo of a bleeding Mansara, lying on the ground, filled social networks and gave birth to endless angry tweets. It also, apparently, informed official statements, including at the State Department, denouncing “excessive use of force” by Israel.
"What’s wrong with this picture? This:" . . . Read the full article here.

Here’s how the State Department has been complicit in furthering the Palestinian narrative:

Enter State Department spokesman John Kirby, who said Wednesday, “certainly, the status quo has not been observed, which has led to a lot of the violence.”
Come again? That factually challenged statement followed Secretary of State John Kerry, who has his own “narrative”: Israeli settlement expansion is responsible for the violence. (State later walked back Kerry’s statement.). . .
