I considered this a cheap trick by a president who loved to inject himself into every significant event, and, like Bill Clinton, wanted to play the role of loving his troops. This was early in his administration and I consider him to have been hoping for street cred with America's troops.
I cannot believe his mentors Bill Ayers and Jeremiah Wright would have approved without knowing it was a necessary political posture. TD
