When A Great Democracy Politicized The Military -

When A Great Democracy Politicized The Military - American Thinker   . . . "More than a decade of politicization of the military resulted in a French army that went to war in August 1914 with appallingly poor leadership and training. The great social experiment of the Left Bloc was a bloodbath. In the first month of the war, the French army lost 250,000 casualties—20% of the field army. Faced with an existential crisis, the French government announced a truce between the left and the conservatives. For the duration of the war, with France’s survival at stake, meritocracy would be the only standard in the French army.

"By 6 September 1914, General Joffre, French Commander-in-Chief, had relieved two army commanders, ten corps commanders, and thirty-three division commanders (half of the French Army divisional commanders) for incompetence. Some officers slated for retirement in 1914 and denied promotion for political and religious views, became full generals and army commanders within a year. France barely survived in 1914 thanks to the British Expeditionary Force and Russia’s invasion of East Prussia.

"We see an interesting historical parallel today, with a leftist government under Biden behaving much like the French Premier Combes in trying to impose a radical leftist orthodoxy and crush the conservative half of the nation. In Defense Secretary Austin we see a man obsessed with the internal politics of the army, just like French General AndrĂ©, intent on purging the armed forces of “extremists” rather than focusing on foreign threats.

"In France, the attempt to replace meritocracy with political loyalty resulted in military disaster. The moral of the story is simple. You can have armed forces that are completely loyal to the political leadership and rigidly follows its political ideology. Or you can have a military based on meritocracy and competence. You cannot have both."

Neera Tanden withdraws as Biden’s budget chief pick

Neera Tanden withdraws as Biden’s budget chief pick (msn.com)

"Tanden faced opposition from at least one Democratic senator and was struggling to win any Republican support, leaving her nomination to lead the White House Office of Management and Budget with no clear path toward confirmation.

“ 'Unfortunately, it now seems clear that there is no path forward to gain confirmation, and I do not want continued consideration of my nomination to be a distraction from your other priorities,” Tanden said in a letter requesting her withdrawal. Biden’s statement indicated that he expects Tanden to serve in another role in his administration.

"The withdrawal marks the first Cabinet defeat for Biden, whose other nominees have so far all cleared 50 votes in the Senate. But it is a potentially costly one. The White House is expected to introduce a budget in a matter of weeks or months and will now have to do so — at least for the foreseeable future — without a budget chief.

Golden Globes Goes ‘Woke,’ Ratings Crash Over 60 Percent

 Neon Nettle

"This year's awards, hosted by Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, appears to be headed for a ratings fiasco.

"Early figures for this year's more "woke" Golden Globes indicate that ratings for the annual entertainment industry awards have crashed by more than sixty percent.

"In the absence of Ricky Gervais as host, the awards saw an increase in political messaging, woke lecturing, and propaganda from left-wing celebrities.

"In previous years, Gervais's hosting remarks had gone viral after the British comedian roasted celebrity privilege while blasting liberal cancel culture and political correctness.

"The 78th annual Golden Globes was virtual for 2021, however, and was hampered by Zoom glitches, obscure nominees, and a total absence of both the fashion red carpet and Gervais's grounding hosting skills." . . .

Golden Globe Award For 'Not Being A Pervert' Goes Unclaimed Once Again |    The Babylon Bee "U.S.—In an effort to spice up the Golden Globes and keep in step with the #MeToo movement, a new award has been introduced in recent years. The highly coveted award category is reserved for actors who exemplify "not being a pervert."                           . . . "Desperate to find a new way to keep viewers interested, the team at the Golden Globes is considering some other categories that may be more relevant, such as "Most Oppressed Celebrity", "Biggest Political Activist Acting As An Actor", and "Obama’s Favorite Actor.' "

Golden Globes Ratings Recover After Ricky Gervais Hacks Broadcast | The Babylon Bee   . . . "Gervais went on for close to five minutes before NBC managed to recover control of the broadcast. Ratings immediately plummeted through the basement as Tina Fey and Amy Poehler apologized for Gervais' outburst and resumed lecturing everyone on inclusivity and diversity."

You’ll never believe what made Bill Maher’s audience clap

Andrea Widberg   "The headlines were about the fact that, when Megyn Kelly appeared on Bill Maher’s HBO show on Friday, she complained about the way her children’s pricey private schools in New York were indoctrinating them with pro-transgender values and anti-white animus. Bill Maher to his credit, agreed with Kelly that matters are getting seriously out of hand, at least when it comes to the anti-white hatred that’s becoming the norm in education. Maher’s always been a bit of maverick, though. The real surprise was the enthusiasm his audience showed for that sentiment.
"For conservatives, nothing that Kelly said about her children’s experiences in New York’s toniest private elementary schools came as a surprise. Kelly said that, while she and her husband identify as “center-right,” she was okay with the fact that the schools were on the left side of the political aisle. That changed, though, when “they went hard left, and then they started to take a really hard turn toward social justice stuff.”
" One of the hot-button issues was the schools’ efforts to normalize transgenderism, a form of body dysphoria that’s recognized as a mental illness when the subject is anorexia, not sex. Kelly told Maher that, when one of her sons was in third grade – that is, 8 years old, the school “unleashed a three-week experimental trans-education program.' ” . . .

Transgenderism: A dangerous new fad

Transgenderism: A dangerous new fad - American Thinker  . . . "Other countries are also dealing with transgenderism and witnessing the effects of its popularity among the young.  Australian psychiatrist Stephen Stathis, who is responsible for diagnosing gender dysphoria, reported on a patient who said, "Doctor Steve...I want to be transgender.  It's the new black."

"This cultural push ignores that men and woman are different, in brains and body.  While a boy may feel like a girl, he is not.  He is still a boy.  Feelings cannot change a person's sex.

"It also ignores the problems with transgenderism.  Per capita, more transgender people have attempted suicide — 22% to 43% of them — than any other demographic.  Additionally, two thirds of all trans youths report recent self-harm.  Believing you are in the wrong body takes a serious toll on your mental health.  If someone takes hormone-blockers or has a so-called sex reassignment done, this likely will also negatively impact a person's mental well-being in the long run.

"For example, in 2020, Keira Bell, a 23-year-old woman from London, sued the National Health Service (NHS).  Bell was only 16 when she went to the NHS for gender dysphoria treatment.  After three one-hour therapy sessions, the NHS prescribed puberty-blockers.  Three years later, it gave her a double-mastectomy.  Once she had taken these steps, it was too late to go back." . . .

Call between Biden and China’s Xi portends rocky road in post-Trump era

AfterMath - Home (terrellaftermath.com)

Crazy Old Biden and the Countdown to Kamala - American Thinker:  . . . "After the election, his mental decline has become obvious.  To cover for his cerebral issues, he has not held a formal press conference and has been interviewed only a few times by friendly reporters.  His one town hall meeting was broadcast on CNN, a pro-Biden network that supports his agenda and uses most of its airtime to fume about President Donald Trump and his supporters.

"On a typical day, Biden will make a statement or issue an executive order.  He will give a speech filled with bumbled or contorted language and then immediately exit the room as reporters are ushered out shouting questions.  This is in contrast to President Trump, who gave impromptu press conferences constantly.

"Sadly, the liberal mainstream press is covering for Biden.  If Trump had acted in such a manner during his first five weeks, there would have been a press uproar.  Eventually, these mental problems will be too severe to hide, and even the liberal media will have to report on them.

"Biden is mentally deteriorating, as most astute observers knew he would.  His condition has become so worrisome that 31 House Democrats are demanding the control of the "nuclear football" be removed from the sole authority of the president. " . . .

There's a battle going on between Khamenei and Biden  . . . "The main Iranian opposition, the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), understands how to treat Iran's mullahs.  It holds that the Iranian regime is only responsive to the language of determination.  Lifting of sanctions — which is the opposite of determination — will pave the way for the Iranian regime's blackmail, nuclear ambition, and internal repression.  Future peace negotiations in the Middle East will be in serious jeopardy." . . .

Biden's Latest Verbal Slip Might Be His Most Disturbing Yet – PJ Media  "Conservative media has been calling out what appears to be Joe Biden’s cognitive decline for a long time. During the presidential campaign, we were the ones sounding the alarm bells while the mainstream media covered for him. At times it was amusing, yet also a bit scary. This man is running for president? The most powerful position in the world?

"Now, it’s just scary.

"On Saturday, Joe Biden did it again. While attempting to list off the names of several Democrats, even he was surprised by his own forgetfulness." . . .

Nevertheless, Xi persisted — with Biden's support (nypost.com) . . . "Now and then, you are reminded that the Khomeinis and Khameneis, and the Osama bin Ladens, too, have a point. America’s politicians are decadent and feckless. They substitute image for reality, and when it goes wrong, they pretend it never happened. Everything about Joe Biden is false, from his teeth to the random musings that float past them. The whole world sees this, but we are enjoined not to by an administration that drifted into office on a cloud of fantasy, puffed up by a largely complicit media.

“Biden confronts China’s Xi in first call,” reports Politico. Biden couldn’t “confront” a cheese sandwich without a side order of denture paste.

“In first call with Xi since election, Biden warns him on human rights,” reports The New York Times. That’s a “warning” on “human rights” abuses that Xi says aren’t happening.

“Last night, I was on the phone for two straight hours with Xi Jinping,” Biden announced to the press on Thursday, as though boasting of the bladder strength of a younger man. “We don’t get moving, they’re going to eat our lunch.” . . .

Total Different Reactions To Trump And Biden* Bombing Syria…

  Weasel Zippers

Did Wind Power Fall Hard During the Great Texas Storm? Yep. Twice.

PJ Media   "Texas is that rare state that has everything: oil, natural gas, coal, space for wind and solar, rare-earth minerals, great food, good-looking people, and abundant humility.

"Maybe not that last one. And we haven’t had a Super Bowl champion in much too long a time.

"Anyway, Friday morning I pulled electric power generation data by source from the United States Energy Information Administration. EIA is reputable and authoritative, to the extent that any government agency is. Insert shrug emoji if you wish. I mostly trust their data. It’s EIA’s data everyone cites when they, accurately, say the United States reduced carbon emissions faster than other developed nations and ahead of the Paris Accords targets over the past few years. EIA’s data attributes that to the rise of natural gas as a cheap, reliable, and clean power source. So you’ve probably trusted their data too, whether you were aware of it or not.

"Here’s what their Texas energy generation graph of the past week says.

"The beige line at the top is natural gas, the green line in the middle is wind. Take note of what that line does between Feb 15-16 and then again on Feb. 17. Also take note of what the beige line is doing during that second period.

"I’ll add some arrows to point out wind’s lowest generation points": . . .

Biden bombs when comparing Trump to Nazi official

Bostonherald.com  "Joe Biden, who has accused Republicans of being practitioners of the Big Lie, is no slouch either when it comes to telling whoppers.

"And he can get away with it because the biased media fails to hold him accountable for anything, even when he calls Republicans Nazis. They believe him or pretend to.

"Otherwise, some straight-shooting mainstream reporter (if there are any left) might have asked Biden what the hell he was talking about when he compared President Trump, U.S. Sens. Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley to Nazi Joseph Goebbels and the Allied World War II firebombing of Dresden, Germany.

"It all may be academic now that Trump is out the door, but it matters.

"But no reporter asked a follow-up question, perhaps because they had no idea what Biden was talking about. Dresden to them probably was some sort of chinaware. Besides, it sounded like more of Biden’s gibberish.

"World War II is not taught much in schools anymore, and only a diminishing number of veterans who fought in it are still with us. So, ignorance about it is understandable.

"It was a war in which the United States defeated Nazi Germany, and fascist Italy and Japan. The U.S. freed Europe from Nazi occupation and made the world safe for democracy, as quaint as that might sound today.

"Biden, prepping for his presidency — and tired of using Hitler as an insult — came up with Goebbels, who was Hitler’s propaganda minister and a master of the Big Lie. . . ."

Regrettable need for a language warning:
