NY Times columnist rebukes Biden’s ‘cold' heart for denying existence of granddaughter: ‘It’s seven grandkids’

This year President Biden has been fond of lecturing Americans about the importance of family values and not being a "deadbeat nation," all while his own son has been going to court to fight child support:
Sadly the Maureen Dowd column is behind a paywall. Perhaps this will suffice:

NY Times columnist rebukes Biden’s ‘cold' heart for denying existence of granddaughter: ‘It’s seven grandkids’   . . ."The letter also pleaded with the president, stating, "Mr. President, many years ago, you lost your daughter in a horrendous car accident. I know you still carry that pain with you every day because I have watched your face when you speak about her. Please do not throw away your granddaughter."
"After rebuking Biden from her sister’s perspective, Dowd provided her own opinion, saying, "Joe Biden’s mantra has always been that ‘the absolute most important thing is your family.’ It is the heart of his political narrative. Empathy, born of family tragedies, has been his stock in trade. Callously scarring Navy’s life, just as it gets started, undercuts that."
"She then declared, "What the Navy story reveals is how dated and inauthentic the 80-year-old president’s view of family is."
"Dowd expressed her belief that "the president can’t defend Hunter on all his other messes and draw the line at accepting one little girl," adding, "You can’t punish her for something she had no choice about.". . .

Navy Joan Roberts  "Hunter has another child (whose identity had been kept anonymous until the Daily Mail revealed it in November 2020) with a woman in Arkansas, Lunden Alexis Roberts. The child was born in August 2018. The paternity of that child was the subject of a now-resolved 2018 court case determining Hunter was the father, according to the Texarkana Gazette.

"Hunter Biden is currently attempting to prevent Navy Joan from adopting the Biden surname after Lunden Roberts said it would be “beneficial” for Navy Joan later in life, according to The Independent. “The name is now synonymous with being well-educated, financially acute and politically powerful,” Lunden Roberts reportedly said. No decision has been made regarding the case, but a hearing will take place on February 22, 2023."
