California Fires Updates: Wednesday, Jan. 22

Breaking: New wildfire reported in Los Angeles County on Jan. 22

California fires live updates: Los Angeles County fires death toll rises to 28 - ABC News   . . ."A new wildfire was reported today at 1:46 a.m. in Los Angeles County. The wildfire has been burning on private land. At this time, there is no data on the containment status of the fire and the cause has yet to be determined. "
California Fires Updates: Wednesday, Jan. 22   . . ."Thousands of firefighters have been battling wildfires across 45 square miles of densely populated Los Angeles County. The two largest fires, the Palisades Fire in Pacific Palisades and the Eaton Fire near Pasadena, remain active." . . .

The Los Angeles wildfires have exposed the incompetence, neglect, and lack of preparation of progressive Democrat leadership — just like Hurricane Katrina did in New Orleans.   . . . "You’ll forgive me if my frame of reference is a little local for the taste of much of our readership, but ever since the images started coming out of those fires spreading all over Southern California and piling up the billions of dollars in lost homes and businesses, I haven’t been able to shake the comparisons to what happened in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans some 20 years ago.
"You’ve got to admit the analogy is substantial. In New Orleans, the infrastructure failure was poorly made and shoddily maintained levees, while in California it’s the intentional neglect of the reservoirs and water capture infrastructure in an area that is constantly water starved and prone to wildfires in the first place.
"Then you have an out-to-lunch governor. Louisiana had Kathleen Blanco, who was instantly overwhelmed by the organizational challenge of a hurricane response. California’s Gavin Newsom is certainly that, but he’s also badly out of touch and has no understanding of the dynamics of an emergency situation, either.
"There’s the analogy of the mayor. Karen Bass was in Ghana when the fires first broke out, and when she returned, it was clear Los Angeles’s emergency management wouldn’t really profit from her presence. That isn’t so different from the performance of New Orleans’s Ray Nagin, who camped out in a suite at the Hyatt Regency Hotel next door to the Superdome and ran up a massive food and drink tab while doing rambling interviews with CNN as his constituents turned into a mishmash of refugees and looters.
"George W. Bush was castigated as an out-of-touch president as the levees broke after Katrina, and perhaps that was true. Bush probably deserved the media opprobrium he got for staring out the window of Air Force One as it flew over the Katrina floodwaters in New Orleans, but that shouldn’t have been half as destructive a set of optics as Joe Biden interrupting a briefing on the Los Angeles fires to announce that he’s now a great grandfather." . . .

That last bit was a taste of Barack Obama or Sean Hannity: "no matter the story, here's something about me."

Must-See: Rep. Tim Burchett Absolutely Bodies Smug Jim Acosta Live On-Air, and Then Does It Again

 Bonchie

. . ."There were several exchanges in which Burchett left Acosta fuming, and naturally, the topic of the day was January 6th because CNN is intent on going down with that ship." . . .

"Jim Acosta will soon be relegated to CNN's after-midnight block, but in the meantime, he's ensuring everyone knows why he was banished.

"Infamous for accosting a female staffer during the first Trump administration while fighting over a microphone (a microcosm of his career if there ever was one), Acosta was pulled off the White House circuit during the Biden years to host a daytime television show. It's gone about as well as you'd expect, with the "journalist" routinely placing third place in the ratings battle among the big three networks. Ever the trooper, though, that hasn't stopped him from being as insufferable as humanly possible.

"On Wednesday, Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) found himself battling Acosta and ended up rhetorically bodying him in the process. As an aside, I still do not understand why any Republican goes on CNN when all its doing is helping make the left-wing network money, but that's a discussion for another day. " . . .

OUCH. @TimBurchett absolutely bodies CNN's Jim Acosta as the network losing to Spongebob reruns....

. . ."ACOSTA: And I just want to ask you, if any of these people who were released from prison, if any of them commit crimes in the future, should Donald Trump take personal responsibility for that?

"BURCHETT: No more than Joe Biden should take personal responsibility for the 14 million people, for Laken Riley losing her life because he didn't have enough guts to enforce the law and back Americans.

"ACOSTA: I'm not talking about Joe Biden.

"BURCHETT: Well, you should be." . . .Full article...

Jim Acosta Ridiculed for Ridiculous Live on Air Stunt He Pulled in Attempt to Keep His Job

. . ."As could be expected, commenters on X found that contention was laughable. For example, Glenn Greenwald wrote, “This nakedly partisan b**** really does think he’s the Conscience of America.” He added, “Never seen a more self-important, sanctimonious blow hard in my entire life. And no, I’ll never get over the fact that he wrote a book bought by dumb liberals where he depicted himself as endangered.” . . .

The Long Awaited Hostage Transfer

 Phyllis Chesler

"First, Hamas delayed the hostage release, delayed disclosing the names of who was being released. More psychological torture? Does this delay rise to the level of breaking the "cease fire"?

"Second, as Hamas is sending the first three female hostages back to Israel, they are out there in force, fully masked and armed. They are still terrorizing the hostages on their way out to freedom.

"Third, none of the Gazan men and boys who are mobbing and blocking and slowing down the Red Cross ambulance which is holding the three Israeli female hostages on their back to Israel, look emaciated. No one seems to have been starved or genocidally exterminated. They are all holding up their cellphone cameras. The streets are chaotic.

"Fourth, Still, the IDF is planning for every eventuality even as the Israeli government is collecting and transferring Gazan Arab terrorists from Israeli jails. Men with a great deal of blood on their hands; men who will commit mass murders again and again; men who will be living in Yehuda and Shomron, East Jerusalem, and possibly in Gaza. What is wrong with this picture?

"Fifth, let's take careful note of how well fed, housed, educated, and medically serviced these barbarian terrorists have been in Israeli hands.

"Sixth, Israelis are, even now, in the streets, demonstrating both for and againt this deal.

"Seventh--the Red Cross never once visited the Israeli hostages. I have nothing to say about such an egregious omission.

"Eighth, I cannot begin to imagine the torture these three women must have suffered nor can anyone predict what they will need to recover "well enough" to rejoin their former lives.

"By the way, the IDF had to rescue a corpse from 2014, a corpse that Hamas refused to hand over.

"More to come."

Why Am I So Sad on This Day of All Days?

. . ."Here is the naked proof, but one example, of whom Israel and all infidels are dealing. After these three young women have already spent 471 days hovering between life and death in dark tunnels beneath the earth--the sadists had not had enough. They needed to remind the women and the world of who they are. Barbarian fascists, a greater threat to world peace than any Western right-winger could ever be." . . .

. . ."I've just watched masked, armed, Hamas barbarians storm the departing Red Cross Vehicle in which three female Israeli hostages were being transported out of captivity. With guns and hoarse cries of, "Kill the Jews," these sadistic fiends banged on the windows, jumped on the car roof, surrounded the car/van, blocked it from moving." . . .

For Pardoned J6 Defendants From PA, A New Nightmare Might Be Looming

Matt Vespa

"[Philadelphia DA] Larry Krasner dropped charges against Philly rioters from the Riots of May- June 2020, October 2020, and August 2023"

"President Donald J. Trump pardoned or commuted the sentences of some 1,500 January 6 defendants. They’ve been released from prison for engaging in a little riot, which, contrary to liberal fake news, did not result in the deaths of any police officers. Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick wasn’t killed in the melees—he died of natural causes. The only person who died was protester Ashli Babbitt.

"Yet, for those defendants pardoned who live in Pennsylvania, a new legal threat might be looming with Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner, who is mulling filing state charges. There will be challenges vis-à-vis double jeopardy, but Krasner is reportedly sold on the opinion that “you can have a state prosecution for conduct that was not fully encompassed in the federal prosecution.”

George Soros’s Prosecutors [including Larry Krasner] Wage War on Law and Order | The Heritage Foundation

"Before he was elected in 2017, Krasner was a career criminal defense attorney who sued the Philadelphia Police Department repeatedly. In his first run for District Attorney, Krasner received $1.7 million from Soros-funded groups—90% of his campaign cash. For his 2021 re-election campaign, Krasner received a combined $1,259,000 from Soros-funded groups." . . .

. . ."Krasner fired 31 career homicide and violent crime prosecutors immediately upon taking office. He replaced them with public defenders and defense-oriented criminal attorneys and ordered them to decline to prosecute most drug cases, charge lower gradations of crimes, offer sweetheart plea deals, require shorter probation and parole periods, and more. Sound familiar?"

National chain employers are shuttering Philadelphia stores due to retail theft/security/safety.  Krasner uses his office to crusade against what he considers “social injustices,” such as bail reform and reduced sentencing. However, his campaign comes at the expense of victims and lost lives.

That Elon Musk Nazi salute continues

The Elon Musk Nazi Salute Story Got More Interesting   "The liberal media is going to obsess about this for days, aren’t they? Elon Musk gave a heart gesture to the audience at the Trump inaugural rally on Monday, and the Left, predictably, thought this was a Nazi salute. It’s not; luckily, the story is losing legs because it’s untrue." . . .

"Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has been especially triggered by this moment, which no one cares about. The Anti-Defamation League also said this wasn’t a Nazi salute."

A Bishop Insults Trump

Rajan Laad

"The rest of Rev. Budde's statement made her sound like an MSNBC contributor. She mentioned 400 years of systemic racism and white supremacy. She aligned the church 'with those seeking justice for the death of George Floyd.' Although there was an explicit mention of supporting peaceful protests, her lack of condemnation of the burning of the church or the rioting, looting, and violence made it clear where she stood." . . .

NOW - Scott Jennings Nukes Woke 'Bishop' for Hijacking Trump's Prayer Service

"Just yesterday, at an inaugural prayer service sermon, an Episcopal bishop addressed President Donald Trump directly and urged him to “have mercy upon” illegal immigrants and LGBTQ+ children.

"The Right Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, said the following during the concluding moments of her sermon.

"Millions have put their trust in you. And as you told the nation yesterday, you have felt the providential hand of a loving God."

“In the Name of our God, I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now.”

“There are gay, lesbian, and transgender children in Democratic, Republican, and independent families. Some who fear for their lives.”

“The people who pick our crops and clean our office buildings, who labor in poultry farms and meat-packing plants, who wash the dishes after we eat in restaurants and work the night shifts in hospitals. They may not be citizens, or have the proper documentation, but the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals.”

“Our God teaches us that we are to be merciful to the stranger, for we were all once strangers in this land.”

"So, what does one make of this?

"The bishop had no right to abuse her position in the church and hijack a prayer service with a political message. By mentioning only working-class illegal migrants, she is attempting to imply that this is about class and that Trump is persecuting the less fortunate. It also reveals her outlook when she assumes that illegal aliens can only be dishwashers and such. But illegal aliens could be wealthy and hold white-collar jobs. They could be the kind who overstay their visas." . . . Full article...

A disgrace at the National Cathedral

. . ."As we watched this ignominious display of sheer hubris and in-your-face arrogance, I wondered how many of the viewing audience thought as I did that what we just saw is the reason there will never be a rapprochement with the far left, as its members have utter contempt for every tradition and custom and code of civility upon which America is built.  With all due respect to the high place she holds in my church, I just must say: disgraceful!" . . .
