Your first 5 minutes at Marine Corps Recruit Depot - San Diego

Youtube
Thinking of joining the Corps? Be advised:  I cannot believe how many recruits thought the first day they got to Boot Camp, they would be issued dress blues and let out onto the streets.
Also here.
Familiar sounds on the "grinder";  Also here. Here;
In a few weeks, the motley crew in the video above will resemble the men in this video:

Reminds me of the Reception Station at Ft. Jackson, South Carolina for U.S. Army BCT in 1967.

In those Vietnam War days the Army and Marines did boot camp pretty much the same way, but the Army became more liberal in the 1970s and the recruits complain they don't even lose their beer belly.

Of course, if they have a combat MOS, the various line units will whip them into shape when they arrive from BCT with the beer belly and Airborne, Ranger and Special Forces training are a real bear.

Too bad, because the USMC have right idea how young troops should be greeted when they first come off the bus and how they should be trained for the next four months. I think this should be standard treatment for all branches of the military.

BTW, I noticed the Marine D.I.s did not use profanity! I saw a couple of my buddies actually break down and cry when they were singled out and cursed by an Army D.I. for some small reason. One guy who did that said he was a preacher's son and couldn't take the profanity....at first :-) but he learned to give it as well as take it later :-)
