9000 "bodies" displayed on Normandy beach to remember D-day

To celebrate the International Peace Day, two artists have drawn nearly 9000 silhouettes  on the sand of Arromanches beach in Normandy. These 9,000 silhouettes represent the soldiers who had died during the WW2 during normandy landings in 1944, a grim reminder to the horrors of war. 

British artist Jamie Wardley (website Sand In Your Eye) and Andy Moss  had the innovative idea to do a project on Aromanches beach in Normandy in order to celebrate the International Peace Day. For the occasion, they used stencils to draw the 9000 silhouettes representing all the soldiers who had died during the Normandy landings on 6 June 1944. In order to accomplish this gigantic task the team sought the help of 60 volunteers and several hundred people inspired by the project.

. . .”This is an example of what happens in the absence of peace and it is a visual representation to help us understand the loss of 9,000 men,” says Jamie Wardley on his website. It is true that this surreal vision of 9000 dead bodies lying on the sand body gives us a food for thought. The artwork existed only a few hours as then the sea covers the entire range and clears the tracks. What do you think of this initiative, which pays tribute to the victims of landing and promotes peace in the world?"
