On the road again; blogging routine changes

Early Monday morning, the Tunnel Dwellers hit Interstate 40 for the left coast. Next blogs will be posted in the evenings until later in the week and this may be nice in some ways; events of the day may have fresh commentary. But we still prefer to post in the morning and will do so when we can.

The Policies That Keep Us Safe

Max Boot  "Give Obama credit for breaking his campaign pledges and essentially adopting the Bush approach. And of course, give Bush credit for weathering years of abuse from Senator Obama and other critics to hang tough and institute policies that have helped keep us safe."

Anchorage CBS Affiliate Caught on Voicemail Conspiring Against Alaska’s GOP Senate Candidate

Big Journalism  "Clearly the reporters were conspiring to set up some type of smear of Joe Miller. With glee, they even cite a recent controversy over an incident involving the Rand Paul campaign, while discussing how they would spread the story via social media after whatever incident they had in mind came off. It also brings to mind another recent episode that ended with Jerry Brown’s California gubernatorial campaign being caught up in controversy when someone from Brown’s camp called Brown’s opponent, Republican Meg Whitman, a “whore.”"

Plot still thickening in Alaska, but not as much as ABC news claims   "It's possible that there are influential Republicans in Washington who are rooting for Murkowski, either because they like her or because they think Miller may be difficult to work with. But there's no reason to believe that the focus on attacking McAdams stems either from any belief that Miller can't win or any preference that he not do so."

Heilemann and O'Donnell: Obama Will Demonize Victorious Republicans Just Like Clinton Did

Newsbusters "And the liberal media blame Republicans for the toxic political tone in the nation. "

In The Senate, The Die Is Not Cast

Cook Political Report  "One week out and there is a distinctly bifurcated look to this 2010 midterm election. On the House side, the Republican wave still looks large and powerful while in the Senate, the situation appears much cloudier and more uncertain.
"My cautious side argues for Republicans to gain seats comparable to the 1994 tidal wave, when Republicans picked up eight Senate seats and 52 House seats on election night — more added with subsequent party switches.
"But there is a potential, particularly in the House, for that to go much larger. "

Liberty Institute Resources for Voters

Help for voters  "How do I find my district/races?
"To find your district and election races, please visit the Action Center and fill out the appropriate information."

Issues  "All across the country, your freedoms are under attack. Sometimes the attacks are obvious, such as the attack on free speech in a possible revival of the Fairness Doctrine, but some are more subtle, like hate crimes legislation which limits free speech while creating an entire new class of crime penalizing thoughts instead of actions.
"Liberty Institute looks at these attacks, and works to make sure that your values are upheld and your freedoms preserved. We work in the courts, legislature, media, and culture to combat these attacks head-on. Join us in the fight to protect freedoms and strengthen families.
"Click any of the terms on the left to find out more about how your freedoms are under attack and what you can do to stop it."

Obamination: Terror & Treason

Crusaders Armory "I learned through Red White Blue News, that President Barack Hussein Obama spoke yesterday about the bombs shipped from Yemen.  I selected three paragraphs from that speech because they contain al-Taqiyya requiring exposure & refutation.  Use the link above if you want to read the whole speech in context; the video is embedded below."....
"Terrorism is not a function of poverty, insecurity, idleness or geography; it is doctrine driven.  The doctrines which drive Islamic terror are contained in the Qur'an & hadith."

Obama’s Islamic Appeasing Tour Continues

LogansWarning  "The president, who lived in Indonesia for four years as a child, plans to deliver a speech in Jakarta following his visit to the mosque. White House Deputy Press Secretary Josh Earnest said Mr. Obama plans to “talk about some of the themes of democracy and development and our outreach to Muslim communities around the world, while also speaking of Indonesia’s pluralism and tolerance as well.” "  Tolerance?

What Kind Of Person Posts A Tweet Like This?

Le·gal In·sur·rec·tion  "The same kind of person responsible for running (and still defending) the Christine O'Donnell "one night stand" story. "

"There is a sickness in our media, and Gawker is one of its primary homes."

(Updated) Rally to Restore Yusuf Islam's Reputation (aka, the artist formerly known as Cat Stevens)

Weekly Standard "You can imagine the media firestorm that would have engulfed Glenn Beck for inviting someone who'd wished death upon a writer for exercising his free speech rights. But, hey, Cat Stevens made some pretty great music, so Stewart gets a pass, right?"

Photo: iowntheworld.com

I cannot say Islam has brought out the best in Mr. Stevens.

Fatwa-endorsing singer featured at “Restoring Sanity” rally   [Stevens-Islam] "added that “if Mr Rushdie turned up at his doorstep looking for help, ‘I might ring somebody who might do more damage to him than he would like. I’d try to phone the Ayatollah Khomeini and tell him exactly where this man is’.” "
Peace Train Lyrics  Do the words apply only to Muslims?

Repeal—Now More than Ever

Weekly Standard "When the Democrats passed their health care reform legislation in March, they assured one another that the law would grow increasingly popular as its contents became better known and its early provisions began to take effect. Seven months later—as those contents have become better known and those provisions have begun to take effect—the law only looks worse, in both substantive and political terms. Its disastrous consequences are already being felt. Voters clearly know it. The case for repealing Obamacare and starting over has never been stronger."

The highs and lows of the Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear. (Updated)

Photo from ConservativeBlogsCentral
Slate   "C-SPAN's host sought a bit of clarification from one caller: "Now, you refer to the rally as a concert, so do you think it's political or do you think it's entertainment?" She replied, correctly, "Yeah." "

Stewart-Colbert ‘Sanity’ Rally Hosted By Radical Muslim Singer Yusuf Islam…"The event sought in part to be a counterpoint to the “Restoring Honor” rally in August by Glenn Beck, the Fox News commentator popular among conservatives and tea party supporters. Beck’s rally, which had strong religious overtones, drew some protests from civil rights supporters."

The Stewart/Colbert Shark Jumping Contest "Aside from the smug sanctimony oozing from these alleged comedians, this tuneless anthem can’t decide if it’s pro or anti-American. But it stands as a good example of the kind of “entertainment” what preceded it. An attempt to extol the virtues of big government sandwiched between performances by geriatric pop stars and lame humor bits that sucked harder than a million vacuum cleaners."

Cat Stevens Appearance At Sanity Rally Rankles Right Winger

TPM  "...Salman Rushdie or indeed any writer who abuses the prophet, or indeed any prophet, under Islamic law, the sentence for that is actually death. It's got to be seen as a deterrent, so that other people should not commit the same mistake again." Cat Stevens, aka Yusuf Islam, supporting the Ayatollah Khomeini's fatwa calling for the death of Salman Rushdie.

"During Islam's appearance, Sarah Palin aide and Weekly Standard writer Michael Goldfarb tweeted "What the f---. Sanity = supporting fatwa against Salman Rushdie?"

Tea Party Brews in Israel, Prompted by Concerns About Obama

The Freedom Fighter's Journal "Sunday’s rally in Tel Aviv is headlined “Say no to Obama,” signaling the view held by many Israeli conservatives that the president is placing undue pressure on Netanyahu to make concessions in negotiations that are not in Israel’s national interest."

(Updated) Christians In the Muslim World- How Islamic Nations treat Christian minorities- Christian News- Videos

Freedomist  "A video tour of the fate of Christians in the Muslim World. While Islamists fight to have the right to build mosques in our neighborhoods, they kill our brothers and sisters in Christ.
"Christians in Egypt face death every day"

BLOODBATH ENDS BAGHDAD CHURCH HOSTAGE SITUATION  "The police arrested eight gunmen, who are believed to be affiliated with the Islamic State of Iraq, a militant organization affiliated with Al-Qaeda in Iraq."

Pre-election terror plots

Troy 2010   "But did the Saudis assist in interupting a plot, or did they assist in staging, or, more likely, simply free-lance a propaganda coup?
"My friend further notes:
"I also understand that O is on his way yet another reach-out to Muslims. He will undoubtedly mention this excellent good turn as an example of Islam as the religion of peace and love.
"Watch for it."

Terror plot thwarted as US-bound explosives seized   "Authorities on three continents thwarted multiple terrorist attacks aimed at the United States from Yemen on Friday, seizing two explosive packages addressed to Chicago-area synagogues and packed aboard cargo jets. The plot triggered worldwide fears that al-Qaida was launching a major new terror campaign. "

Cargo plane bomb plot: Key developments  Comments: "This timeline is important because, according to an article in today's Telegraph, even with all these data, Obama failed to pass on crucial information to the British--they learned about it when they saw his TV speech."

Republican gains may foil terrorism trials in U.S.  "Only one suspect from Guantanamo, Ahmed Ghailani, has been brought to U.S. soil for trial. His case in New York began on a rocky note when the judge barred a witness from testifying because he was located as a result of coerced interviews.
"Republicans have seized on that ruling as a sign that the criminal courts cannot deal with terrorism suspects." Via KeepAmericaSafe

Meek goes under the bus; whither black America?

American Thinker   "Black Americans, you should be insulted beyond belief. You should also wake up and realize you are only friends of the Democratic party to the extent you are useful to them.
"Wake up; please wake up..."

The Great Divider — Or ‘Elections Have Consequences’

Victor Davis Hanson  "Obama has turned manic in his efforts to save his sinking presidency. Every divisive tactic has been tried — and yet so far found wanting. We have gone through, in creepy Alinskyite fashion, all the bogeymen, JournoList enemies — Rush Limbaugh, Fox News, Justice Roberts, the Tea Party, John Boehner, Karl Rove, and Ed Gillespie. We have witnessed the furor over the voters’ purported stupidity — the dopey clingers who do not understand science or logic, but are driven by their “fears” to reject the hope and change salvation. Obama hammers that condescension home; everyone from Jimmy Carter to John Kerry in similar exasperation joins that chorus that we know not what we do."

Report: Al-Qaeda Planning to Take Hostages in Mumbai-Style Attacks Across Europe to Force Release of KSM From U.S. Custody

Montreal Gazette  "Noman Benotman said that Osama bin Laden wants to force the Americans to release Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, who is awaiting trial for his part in the 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center.
"Mr Benotman, a Libyan and former Afghanistan terrorist camp trainer, said that he was present at several discussions about the plot and believes it has now been reactivated." Hat tip to Weasel Zippers . Photo from that blog.

Queensbury rules in the war on terror?  "John Sawers, head of Britain's legendary MI6, appears to be ready to trade the welfare of terror attack victims for purity when it comes to methods."

BECK VERSUS STEWART = HONESTY VERSUS SARCASM, CYNICISM AND ELITISM

The Astute Blogger  "BECK'S RALLY WAS GREAT AND ITS VALUES GOOD. BY COUNTERING BECK, THESE LEFTIST COMEDIANS PROVE THAT THEY ARE SMALL AND BAD.
"NOTHING GOOD CAN COME FROM THEIR SARCASM, CYNICISM AND ELITISM.
"SARCASM, CYNICISM AND ELITISM CANNOT CREATE MORE BUSINESSES OR JOBS, NOR CAN IT DEFEND US FROM GLOBAL JIHAD OR CREEPING JIHAD."  Emphases in the original
The Rally today

A genuine rally of sanity and/or fear "Meanwhile, while the ralliers rallied, all the synagogue services and other usual events on Friday night and Saturday, the Jewish Sabbath, continued as planned despite an FBI warning.
"The intended victims, Jews, were not supposed to be angry because that's racism."  Ethel C. Fenig

Saturday Open Thread: Thank You Jon Stewart Edition  "Today, 10’s or 100’s of thousands of hip lefties will gather in Washington D.C. to nod approvingly-and ironically-at wry witticisms instead of, you know, walking precincts, cavassing voters or making get-out-the-vote calls. The kinds of things you usually do the weekend before the midterm elections. Yes, lefties, travel this weekend. Thank you, Jon Stewart. We hope your rally attracts millions."

Liberal groups tag along with Jon Stewart rally   "Abortion-rights supporters, marijuana fans, environmental activists, government watchdogs and the Democratic National Committee all will be cruising the Mall and spreading their messages in the hopes of winning hearts, minds and votes three days before Election Day."

The socialist brain of a liberal Democrat  "How do they fit all that angst, worry, outrage, hypocrisy, hand wringing, arrogance, strutting, condescension, ego, and moral blindness all in one head?"

With election outlook bleak, despairing young liberals look to Jon Stewart  I think that many liberals that will march in the ‘Rally to Restore Sanity’ realize that the Barack Obama era of ‘good feeling’ politics is over and as Republicans regain power, the only comforting fact is that they will fall back into the crosshairs of the Daily Show. After all, it was the cynical Jon Stewart view of politics that sustained many despairing liberals through the Bush era when their political stars failed to beat Bush in 2004 and failed to end the war in Iraq in 2006. If you are a liberal faced with these kinds of failures, what else is there to do but throw up your hands and laugh? Via Lucianne

Why is Assange still alive?

Jonah Goldberg  "Indeed, most of the documents from WikiLeaks debunk the vast majority of conspiracy theories that fueled so much idiocy on the left for the last decade. No sinister plots involving Halliburton or Israel have been exposed — because they only existed in the fevered fantasies of some coffee-shop dissidents."

America Not Losing Its Religion

Kathryn Lopez  "...The American consensus on religion's role in the public discourse is not just a national mood, it's a fact founded in American history." We cannot afford to expunge it. We should not co-opt it. We should embrace it in the most honest and transparent of ways. In God we trust. And for political prudence, we pray."

Charles Krauthammer: The great campaign of 2010 (reprise)

Washington Post  "...Quite a uniter, urging Hispanics to go to the polls to exact political revenge on their enemies - presumably, for example, the near-60 percent of Americans who support the new Arizona immigration law.
"This from a president who won't even use "enemies" to describe an Iranian regime that is helping kill U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan. This from a man who rose to prominence thunderously declaring that we were not blue states or red states, not black America or white America or Latino America - but the United States of America.
"This is how the great post-partisan, post-racial, New Politics presidency ends - not with a bang, not with a whimper, but with a desperate election-eve plea for ethnic retribution. "  Emphasis added.

Karl Rove: Signs of the Democratic Apocalypse

Wall Street Journal  "In recent days, Mr. Obama screamed defiantly to Democratic rallies that Republicans have to "sit in the back," and he told a Latino radio audience that it's time to "punish our enemies and . . . reward our friends." That may be the president's idea of how to appeal to Americans' better instincts. Next Tuesday night we'll see how badly wrong he is."

Evidence of a Teleprompter Addiction, People’s Exhibit C

'The Powers That Be' "The photo is a few months old, but I always like to kick off the weekend with a laugh, and what better to do that with than by showing a “gifted orator” who uses a teleprompter in a cabinet meeting:"
"We’ll get a photo of People’s Exhibit D as soon as Obama speaks to India’s Parliament."

Gawker's nonstory about Christine O'Donnell reveals the public's role in making a "sex scandal."

Slate   "If you're in your twenties or thirties and have never suffered through an evening such as Mr. Anonymous describes, I invite you to leave the convent or seminary now and report back to me in a couple of weeks. What adult among us has not been Mr. Anonymous or Christine O'Donnell (or both!?) in their lifetimes? Fumbling sexual encounters, even those of unmarried senatorial candidates, are as noteworthy as bucket of sand. If the Gawker piece engaged or enraged you, you're a sucker, and Denton is laughing at you."

Do we have a theme here?

The Elections

David Limbaugh" Liberals at War With Liberty  "America, its founding principles, its Constitution, its robust liberty tradition and its strength are being stolen out from under us by a man who has no appreciation for America's greatness and who has contempt for ordinary Americans (we're "enemies"), whom he considers beneath him and unworthy of their sovereign prerogative to preserve this nation."

Republicans: Hold the Hubris by Mona Charen: "Republicans are overwhelmingly likely to regain control of the House and thus ring in the end of the Pelosi regime. They will then be situated to prevent President Obama from doing a whole lot more damage to the nation. But a Republican Congress, even with control of both houses, cannot repeal Obamacare, or FinReg, or even the Lilly Ledbetter "fair pay" act, over Obama's veto. To repeal these damaging laws, and to pass new ones, a new president will be required."

What Did Mr. Meek Stand to Inherit? "Bill Clinton's involvement in the three-way Florida Senate race suggests that the Democrats want Rubio defeated so badly that they're willing to cheat -- again."

The Real Choice This Election  "On October 20, 2010 the President gave a speech in Portland, Oregon where he stated the real issue in the upcoming election: "But we also believe in a country where we look after one another; where we say, I am my brother's keeper, I am my sister's keeper. That's the America I know. That's the choice in this election."
"And he is right. The choice in the upcoming election boils down to whether you think you are your brother's keeper or whether you have a right to live your own life as you see fit."

Charles Krauthammer :  The Great Campaign of 2010  "This from a president who won’t even use “enemies” to describe an Iranian regime that is helping kill U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan. This from a man who rose to prominence thunderously declaring that we were not blue states or red states, not black America or white America or Latino America — but the United States of America.
"This is how the great post-partisan, post-racial, New Politics presidency ends — not with a bang, not with a whimper, but with a desperate election-eve plea for ethnic retribution. Nice."

Update: Meek Almost Dropped Out of Senate Race, as Urged by Clinton

Clinton Meddles in Florida Senate Race for Charlie Crist  "The high-level efforts, involving a former president and several White House officials, suggest that the leaders of the Democratic Party were willing to go to extraordinary lengths to make sure that Rubio, a rising star in the conservative movement of Hispanic descent, is not elected to the Senate on November 2."  STEPHEN F. HAYES

Voter Fraud Watch: A Primer on What to Watch For  "But what does voter fraud look like? What can citizens be on the lookout for when they participate in their election? Let me share some examples:"

The Clown-In-Chief

Pajamas Media  "This law professor, who we found out after the election wasn’t … this senator, with the thinnest of resumes … this radical leftist that sought, in his own words, to “fundamentally change America” and “cause energy rates to necessarily skyrocket,” and encouraged Hispanics to target his “enemies” has done more damage to our nation than any other president in our history. I’m including Carter here. So why am I surprised to see the so-called leader of the free world hitting the comedy shows before an election that is expected to wipe out Democrat majorities in Congress?"

Obama to Jon Stewart: Obamacare ‘As Significant’ As Any U.S. Law Ever Passed, But Only First Step in Government Transformation of Health Care  "Obama countered by underscoring what he perceived to be the historical magnitude of his health-care legislation, and by pointing to what he believes is the path forward for an even more expansive government-driven transformation of the health-care industry."

Red tape rising: 2010's record flood of regulation

The Heritage Foundation "Unlike on-budget spending, there is no transparent accounting of regulatory costs. Instead, they are largely hidden in the form of lost jobs, higher prices, and slowed investment. If anything, the actual costs of the FY 2010 rules are likely higher than $26 billion, since regulators tend to minimize the costs of their rules."

Justice Department vows to stop intimidation of voters

Washington Times  "The Justice Department on Wednesday vowed to thwart any efforts to intimidate voters at the polls on Tuesday and to ensure that the ballots of military voters are counted, as activists on both sides of the political aisle reignite their regular election-time tango over the dangers of voter fraud versus voter suppression."

Thomas Sowell: A Crossroads Election  "For all its sweeping and scary provisions, ObamaCare is not nearly as important as the way it was passed. If legislation can become laws passed without either the public or the Congress knowing what is in those laws, then the fundamental principle of a free, self-governing people is completely undermined."

How To Cut Federal Spending

Heritage   "The Heritage Foundation’s Brian Riedl has identified $343 billion in spending cuts that can be made for the fiscal year 2012 budget. You can see a table of all the cuts here. The bulk of the cuts fall into six areas:"...

No Taxes

Point of View   "In many countries in the Middle East, oil revenues fund the government, and the citizens pay no taxes. Since they don't have any "skin in the game," they are less involved as citizens. What will happen in the U.S. if a majority of Americans don't pay taxes? I think a reasonable assumption will be that citizen apathy will increase." Kerby Anderson

Focus on the Family voter guide

CitizenLink   "With this weighty responsibility, it is absolutely critical that we all understand where our candidates stand on the issues that matter to us. We hope you find this Web site informative and helpful as you choose the candidates who best line up with your beliefs, convictions and values.
"You may even want to print the information and take it with you to your polling place. This is perfectly legal and may save you time as you cast your ballot."  Via Probe.org

How the White House Bungled the Politics of Health Care

Weekly Standard  "They overestimated the amount of support passage would produce among their own allies, and further assumed opposition might wane as more Americans learned about the details of the legislation. As the Christian Science Monitor’s Gail Russell Chaddock wrote after the bill passed, “Democrats say Americans will soon forget the go-it-alone process they used to move this historic legislation as they come to know its benefits.”
"But the bigger misstep was underestimating the backlash."
Who can forget the image of Democrats walking past the TEA party and others protesting outside the capitol building, taunting them while Pelosi brandished her large gavel? There was no concern among Democrat supporters for our nation's economic foundation, only mocking. Like this!

Signs and omens "Here is one pointed reason served up by Barone: "[The Democrats] passed a health care bill that was the most unpopular major legislation passed by Congress since the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854." "

Reverend Jackson rebukes NPR - finally

Ethel C. Fenig "Hmmm, maybe NPR could offer Jackson a gig as oh, maybe a political analyst. Certainly he would meet NPR's standards of neutrality and non partisanship."

The Communist Party's recommendations

Communist Party USA Under "Take Action", click on Get out the vote and you will be directed to an AFL-CIO page promoting the Democrat agenda and election tasks. More interesting, however will be on the Take Action page where you will find the CPUSA platform which is basically the Democrat platform. More on CPUSA at the Mark Levin site.

George W. Bush Book 'Decision Points' out Nov. 9

ABC News  "Bush has said he is not writing a traditional memoir but an account of key decisions in his life. ....
"According to Crown Publishers, "Decision Points" will offer "gripping, never-before-heard detail" on such historic events as the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks and the 2000 presidential election along with Bush's decision to quit drinking, his relationship with his family and other personal details."

The Democrats' Final Recourse: Massive Vote Fraud

American Thinker  "I have long said that this election would see vote fraud of unprecedented magnitude. And it does seem that a perfect storm of such criminality is brewing. The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals just struck down an Arizona law requiring proof of citizenship to vote, a treasonous act that facilitates vote fraud. Of course, some liberals are more forthcoming about their intentions; in Portland, ME and New York City, there is a push to allow non-citizens to vote. Not to be outdone, San Francisco seeks to allow even illegal aliens to cast ballots in school elections. Hey, why not? They're not illegals - they're undocumented Democrats."   Selwyn Duke

Government Kills Businesses (video)

John Stossel
John Stossel  "This video should be required watching for every government official who is getting ready to pass more regulations. ESPECIALLY those who are getting ready to pass more regulations and say that they also want to “create jobs.”
"When will they learn that the best way to “create jobs” is to LEAVE US ALONE?"

Whitewashing Islam; "Who Controls the Past Controls the Future”

Photo: TheReligionOfPeace.com
Bruce S. Thornton  "The fight against jihadism has been compromised by just such narratives in which the facts of history are twisted into a melodrama of Western imperialist aggression against a peaceful and tolerant Islam. This idealized picture of Islamic history would have astonished our ancestors, who for centuries called Islam the “religion of the sword” based on their own unfortunate experiences with centuries of Muslim aggression. This whitewashed history would have insulted the Muslim historians who proudly recorded the triumphs of Allah’s warriors and the devastation they left behind them."

Larry Elder: "NPR Fired Juan for Getting Krauthammered on Fox"

RealClearPolitics "Williams, as liberals go, comes across as more reasonable than most. He wasn't always like that. Years of getting his leftist butt kicked at the Fox round table by the likes of quick minds such as William Kristol, Brit Hume and the brilliant Charles Krauthammer made Williams more sensible. He raised his game, which meant fewer silly emotional arguments and a more nuanced, if still often wrongheaded, criticism of "the right." "....
"Can a lib really say to Fred Barnes/Krauthammer/Kristol/Hume that "Bush Lied, People Died" -- and not get his clock cleaned?"

Charles Krauthammer: "This Is How the Great, Post-Racial Promise of Obama Ends"    Video from Bully Pulpit.

Thomas Sowell: "Brass Oldies", parts 1, 2, 3

Part One:  "One of these brass oldies is a phrase that has been a perennial favorite of the left, "tax cuts for the rich." How long ago was this refuted? More than 80 years ago, the "tax cuts for the rich" argument was refuted, both in theory and in practice, by Andrew Mellon, who was Secretary of the Treasury in the 1920s."

Part Two:  "Unemployment never hit double digits in any of the 12 months following the stock market crash of 1929. But it hit double digits within 6 months after government intervention-- and unemployment stayed in double digits for the entire remainder of the decade, as the government went in for one intervention after another."

Part Three:  "One of the brassiest of the brass oldies in the law is the notion that the Constitution creates a "wall of separation" between church and state. This false notion has been so widely accepted that people who tell the truth get laughed at and mocked."
Thomas Sowell is a senior fellow at the Hoover Institute and author of The Housing Boom and Bust.

Shipping out jobs/ A myth pols find convenient  "In fact, American companies have quite valid reasons beyond any tax advantage to establish overseas affiliates: That's how they reach foreign customers with US-branded goods and services."

You Don't Have to be Crazy to be a Democrat, But it Helps

Ann Coulter "...That's not Patty Murray-stupid, but it's still pretty stupid. How many late-term abortions are you planning to get, Californians, that it's worth being represented by such a cretinous woman?"
....
"...When the Army considered court-martialing [Colonel] West thousands of letters poured in defending West and thanking him for what he had done. Ninety-five members of Congress signed a letter to the secretary of the Army in support of West. No court-martial was ever convened.
"Liberals won't say that John Phillip Walker Lindh disgraced his country. Washington Sen. Patty Murray thinks Osama bin Laden is a swell guy for building "day care centers" in Afghanistan. But they say a hero like Allen West "disgraced his uniform" by saving the lives of American soldiers.
"Yeah, the Tea Party candidates are a real embarrassment."

Republicans, heading for big gains, ready agenda

Photo: Weasel Zippers
Google News  "The question is how much of the GOP's government-shrinking, tax-cutting agenda to advance, and how fast.
"It's certain that Republicans want to capitalize quickly on tea party-fueled anger and the antiestablishment fervor that they believe will provide momentum to accomplish an activist to-do list. It's equally clear, however, that the outsized expectations of a fed-up electorate and a crop of unruly newcomers could complicate the plans. So could Obama and fellow Democrats who will still be around after Tuesday's elections."

Herger, House Republican Leadership Introduce Legislation to Repeal Government Takeover of Health Care and Replace with Solutions that Lower Costs  "Boehner’s address [in 2009] emphasized four common-sense reforms that will lower health care costs and expand access to quality care without a government takeover of our nation’s health care system that kills jobs, raises taxes on small businesses, or cuts Medicare for seniors:"

Obama Coalition Is Fraying, Poll Finds "The poll provides a pre-Election Day glimpse of a nation so politically disquieted and disappointed in its current trajectory that 57 percent of the registered voters surveyed said they were more willing to take a chance this year on a candidate with little previous political experience. More than a quarter of them said they were even willing to back a candidate who holds some views that “seem extreme.” "  If the voters consider the candidate a "celebrity", they won't care what he or she believes.

Cal Thomas:  The Morning After   "The Republican Party must also change. The coming GOP success is not a victory of party, but of philosophy. It is the tea party movement that is making it possible for Republicans to regain power. If party leaders in and out of Congress try to quell passions and put out the fire that is burning in so many bellies, they will deservedly lose everything in 2012. "

Congressional Report Casts Doubt on Constitutionality of Obamacare's Individual Mandate

CNS News "Published on October 15, the CRS report examines the arguments both for and against the constitutionality of the individual mandate, which requires every American to purchase government-approved health insurance or else pay a fine."....
"The CRS report finds that the two primary defenses of the mandate – that it is a tax and that Congress can impose it under the Commerce Clause – to be problematic."
The report:  To date, the Supreme Court has not articulated a fundamental right to health care.78 Indeed, the words “health” or “medical care” do not appear anywhere in the text of the Constitution. Thus, rights of individuals to health care services derive from statutory rights (with a few such rights also set forth in state constitutions) and have most often concerned the provision of medical care to poor persons. In challenging a health insurance mandate on due process grounds, it is possible that one could allege a fundamental right to be uninsured, or to not purchase health insurance.
"However, this is not a fundamental right that has been recognized by the Supreme Court".

The Left’s voter fraud whitewash

Michelle Malkin   "More cunningly, these organizations are seeking to marginalize complaints about election integrity by casting citizen watchdog efforts as racist “scare tactics.” Echoing President Obama’s message to the Democratic faithful on the campaign trail, they are accusing political opponents of suppressing the votes of minorities and the poor."

Voter fraud watch: They’re at it again  "In the meantime: Vigilance plus citizen media plus the willingness to be sued for blowing the whistle equals the best defense for voter fraud. We must all be voter fraud watchers now."

The New Black Panther Party Case: Cast of Characters "And yet, the NAACP can find no time at its convention to address the antics of the NBPP. Instead, they took great pains to go after the white devils that attend the tea party tax protests.
"Apparently, denouncing those who call for the killing of “crackers” and their babies does nothing to advance the cause of African-Americans." From the Comments section.

WikiLeaks’ Selective Morality

Victor Davis Hanson "Had the public known in real time from periodic media leaks about operational disasters surrounding the planning for the D-Day landings, intelligence failures at the Bulge or Okinawa, or G.I. treatment of some German and Japanese prisoners, the story of World War II might have been somewhat different. But then, in those paleolithic days FDR and Winston Churchill did not have to be flawless to be perceived as being far better than Adolf Hitler."

Iran training Taliban fighters to use surface-to-air missiles "Such intelligence is worrisome for U.S. and NATO officials. Surface-to air-missiles supplied covertly by the United States to mujahideen fighters in the 1980s played a crucial role in the defeat of Soviet forces in Afghanistan. Coalition forces are even more dependent on moving troops and supplies through the air than the Red Army was, experts said."

Negotiations with Taliban dismay troops "The Administration and some of our military commanders are “pandering to the enemy and giving a disorganized group of criminal insurgents a power they should never be granted – we’re not going to see this through and believe me we’re making a serious mistake,” said a military official in Afghanistan."

Halloween's Sexual Trend

Rebecca Hagelin, Townhall: "Well, brace yourself. Princesses look different these days. The pre-teen and teenage girls who show up are likely to be wearing trampy costumes that say “s-e-x,” rather than “trick or treat.” We all know that girls are being sexualized by the culture at younger and younger ages in their daily wear. But Halloween costumes have taken things to a new low, making our little girls into sex objects even midst what is supposed to be an evening of childhood fun. The sad reality is that we live in a pop culture that is obsessed with trying to make our boys and girls think about sex all the time."

More RESPECT for the President, Please!

Ken Blackwell, Townhall:  "...the words of Adams’ prayer for the White House. FDR even had it carved into the mantle of the fireplace in the State Dining Room.: “"I pray to heaven to bestow the best of blessings on this house and all that hereafter inhabit it...May none but the honest and wise men ever rule under this roof."
"The Washington Post’s McGrory records that when McCullough got to the “wise and honest” part, all of Bill Clinton’s closest friends looked at their shoes.
"Yet, apparently, this year’s crop of candidates would rather have the jolly, gregarious Bill Clinton stumping for them than the White House’s current occupant. One thing you have to say for Bill Clinton: He never came off as “holier than Thou.” "

Why Socialism Breeds Racism

Ben Shapiro, Townhall:  "I've been to a lot of arenas to watch NBA games and the Yankees, and I have never heard anyone have a go at a guy because he's from Puerto Rico or the Dominican or Africa or wherever," Henry marveled. "I can understand why people in America are kind of shocked [by European racism], because that doesn't happen in their sports."

Obama to ‘Daily Show’ as Campaign Nears End

NY Times   "Mr. Obama will sit down this afternoon with Jon Stewart, the comedian-turned-activist who hosts the show, in what White House officials concede is a blatant attempt to seek out young Democratic voters wherever they spend the most time. "

Californians: Vote a straight Republican ticket

Bookworm Room "This means California conservatives may be tempted to (a) sit this one out or (b) vote for a write-in or minor candidate. Those are luxuries of ordinary elections, though. In California, this election is not about a favored conservative candidate winning; it’s about making sure the Democratic candidate loses. And the only way to do that is with vast numbers of votes for the Republican, even if that requires some nose holding."

(Updated) While We’re At It, Let’s Defund Those National Endowment for the Arts’ Cowards

Big Hollywood  "That’s right: the tax-payer subsidized NEA, now basking in the attention it’s receiving from “ The Misadventures of the Romantic Cannibals" has yet to proudly sponsor a piece of “art” that mis-characterizes Islam or depicts figures of various other religions (outside of Christianity), in a provocative, if not perverted, sexual posture.
"What’s up with this feigned bravery? This propounded art-above-all-else mentality that is actually nothing more than an assault directed at the one religion the NEA trusts won’t react violently?"

Museum Exhibit Portrays Jesus in Porn Pose   "The controversial piece is part of a 10-artist exhibit called, “The Legend of Bud Shark and His Indelible Ink.” The lithograph showing the son of God engaged in a sexual act is called, “The Misadventures of the Romantic Cannibals,” and was created by Stanford University professor Enrique Chagoya ."

EPA: Red Tape Rising

Morning Bell  "Next January the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is set to issue new regulations on emissions from boilers used in facilities like oil refineries, paper mills, and shopping malls. The EPA claims their new regulations will only cost the economy $9.5 billion by 2013. But the American Chemistry Council says the cost will surpass $20 billion and kill 800,000 jobs. Who is right? We don’t know. But what we do know is that if you total up all of the new regulations already passed by the Obama administration last year, using their own cost estimates, fiscal 2010 saw the largest increase in regulatory burdens placed on the U.S. economy in the nation’s recorded regulatory history." Emphasis added.

EPA Funnels Taxpayer Money to Dozens of Liberal Community Activist Groups   "Environmental Protection Agency recently listed 76 community groups and government agencies that will share almost 2 million taxpayer dollars in the form of "Environmental Justice Grants ". "

U.S. Gives Liberal Activists Environmental Justice Grants "In a crusade to help minority and indigenous communities, the Obama Administration is doling out nearly $2 million in “environmental justice grants” to dozens of leftwing groups, including some dedicated to helping illegal immigrants."

This Is a Referendum, Not an Election

Dennis Prager  If the Democrats win:
-- The American people have announced, consciously or not, that they support the Democratic Party's "fundamental transformation" -- those were President Obama's words when he campaigned, and he has lived up to them -- of America from a liberty-based state of limited government into an equality-based welfare state with an ever-expanding government.
-- America will change from a country that emphasizes producing wealth to a country that emphasizes redistribution of wealth.
....Read more here...."And what would constitute a Democrat victory next Tuesday? Anything other than a Republican landslide. Any other result will be interpreted by the media and by the Democrats as solely a result of the economic recession and as the normal losses of the dominant party in off-year elections.

"In other words, the only way to ensure that the electoral results are seen as a repudiation of the growth of the state and the other Democrat and leftist goals is through an enormous Republican victory.
"Only then will America understand that this election was not first about jobs. It was above all about America."

Voting machines in Clark County, Nevada automatically checking Harry Reid's name; Voting machine technicians are members of SEIU  "Voter Joyce Ferrara said when they went to vote for Republican Sharron Angle, her Democratic opponent, Sen. Harry Reid's name was already checked.
"Ferrara said she wasn't alone in her voting experience. She said her husband and several others voting at the same time all had the same thing happen.
""Something's not right," Ferrara said. "One person that's a fluke. Two, that's strange. But several within a five minute period of time -- that's wrong.""

American Exceptionalism

William Stout "We have been lied to. By the President, by Congress, and by our political parties and they did so with the blessings of the press who cheered them on. Our system is broken, our politicians are corrupt, and our government has turned to tyranny in dictating to the public what we must purchase. Our founders would never have stood for such lunacy. They revolted over a tax on tea and yet we are forced to submit to a tyranny who seeks to beggar us and to dictate to us how to live? I think not."  Via Paladin's Page .

Video: Sink cheats during FL gubernatorial debate

Hot Air  "The first rule of Political Debate Club, at least in Florida’s gubernatorial race? No messages from staff. Second rule of Political Debate Club? Don’t get caught on camera breaking the first rule. It’s one thing to cheat during a debate, but Alex Sink commits the really unpardonable sin of being incompetent at it:"

America Sees Through Jon Stewart: Obama’s Clown No Longer Fooling Anyone

Big Hollywood  "Another way to look at it is that whereas Bill Maher is MSNBC, Jon Stewart is NPR, another media giant hiding behind the false veil of objectivity but only because they believe that particular posture gives them some sort of advantage in the war to destroy the right and advance the left. Thankfully, most people saw through NPR some time ago, and now we’re finally getting a chance to see the phony shine start to fade from Stewart."

Obama to Kids: Stop the Bullying; Obama to Latinos: Punish Your Enemies

JammieWearingFool  "Who's the man who just yesterday urged his constituents to punish their enemies? Oh, right, it was Barack Obama."
Barack Obama gave his marching orders:
"And then there’s this…"
Obama told far left Latinos to go out there and “punish” your enemies.
Unreal. Obama doesn’t even talk about radical Islamists that way.

Culture of Corruption: Harry Reid Staffer Caught in Sham Marriage to Keep Terror Suspect in the U.S.

Pajamas Media  "Two weeks ago, it was revealed that a Reid staffer and other congressional aides were buying or selling shares in companies regulated by Congress.
"Now, Reid’s Hispanic press secretary, Diana Tejada, has been implicated in an immigration scam involving a false marriage to a Lebanese national who was under investigation by the Oklahoma City Joint Terrorism Task Force, according to a FoxNews report."

California's Man-Made Drought

Climate Change Dispatch "Instead of pink blossoms and green shoots along Highway 5 in April, vast spans from Bakersfield to Fresno sit bone-dry. Brown grass, dead orchards and lifeless grapevine skeletons stretch for miles for lack of water. For every fallow field, there's a sign that farmers have placed alongside the highway: "No Water = No Food," "No Water = No Jobs," "Congress Created Dust Bowl.""

Obama's Last-Ditch Strategy

Daily Beast "The White House plans to test Republicans' unity and political resolve on three controversial issues: repealing the Bush tax cuts, implementing the deficit commission's findings, and pushing immigration reform. Obama's team says that these issues will make for good policy—and good politics, forcing Republicans elected in swing districts to choose between placating Democrats and independents and risking a possible Tea Party challenge in 2012."

Democrats’ Favorite Election Strategy Strikingly Familiar to Monty Python Fans    "When confronted with voters over the past year, the Democrats have wielded one consistent message: "I order you to be quiet!" "

Obama Says GOP Has ‘Gotta Sit In Back
"Ask yourself what Republican or conservative political figure could get away with making such a ‘pointed’ remark?   http://sweetness-light.com/archive/obama-says-gop-has-gotta-sit-in-back
He said Republicans had driven the economy into a ditch and then stood by and criticized while Democrats pulled it out. Now that progress has been made, he said, "we can’t have special interests sitting shotgun. We gotta have middle class families up in front. We don’t mind the Republicans joining us. They can come for the ride, but they gotta sit in back." …

"Alas, it turns out that Mr. Obama is just as much a post-racial President as he is a post-partisan one. Which is to say he is the most partisan and the most racially divisive President in our nation’s history." Sweetness and Light

Wikileaks's leaks mostly confirm earlier Iraq reporting (Updated)

Washington Post  "The report confirms that the vast majority of Iraqi civilian deaths were caused by other Iraqis, not by coalition forces; claims such as those published by the British journal The Lancet that American forces slaughtered hundreds of thousands are the real "attack on truth." "

Julian "Inconceivable!" Ass-ange "Instead of averting war or preventing bloodshed, Julian Assange has actually increased the chances of civilians being murdered and the possibility of civil war in Iraq..." Blackfive
