Amy Coney Barrett rips Ketanji Brown Jackson over dissent in birthright citizenship case

"Conservative Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett stunned veteran bench watchers Friday with a blunt takedown of liberal Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson’s “extreme” dissent in the landmark birthright citizenship case in which the Supreme Court curtailed lower court use of universal injunctions.
"“We will not dwell on Justice Jackson’s argument, which is at odds with more than two centuries’ worth of precedent, not to mention the Constitution itself,” wrote Barrett, the court’s second-newest justice, in a jaw-dropping rebuke of her colleague, the newest justice.
"“We observe only this: Justice Jackson decries an imperial Executive while embracing an imperial Judiciary.”
"Barrett had authored the majority opinion in the case, the most consequential on the docket this term, which gave President Trump a major win by limiting the power of district judges to block his actions.
"Liberal Justice Sonia Sotomayor penned the main dissent for the left flank of the high court, which Jackson joined." . . .

Take those away, and she is a truly dim bulb. But now that she’s on the Supreme Court, she’s a dim bulb with dreams of an all-powerful (leftist) judiciary.

"However, showing that the more intelligent people on the Court have finally lost patience with her, in today’s excellent decision saying that lower courts may no longer issue universal (or nationwide) injunctions, Justice Amy Coney Barrett gives Jackson a smackdown the likes of which I’ve never seen in a Supreme Court decision.

.Let me say again that, in all my years of reading appellate and supreme court decisions, whether state or federal, I’ve never seen anything like this. And so, while the opinion was a great win for the Trump administration and a necessary brake on out-of-control leftist judges, what social media caught was the fact that Jackson has clearly worn out her welcome amongst the members of the court with IQs over 100. Indeed, even Sotomayor and Kagan wouldn’t join her dissent, while six of the justices signed on to the main decision.

Blame must be assigned where it belongs; to the witless Biden and his unlearned handlers who placed Judge Jackson in this unfortunate position and set her up for predestined failure. Sadly, I see her on the opposite end of the spectrum from Justice Clarence Thomas.TD

" 'Zohran Mamdani, winner of the Democratic Party’s New York City mayoral primary, is overflowing with Marxist ideas of how to govern that are so lousy that it’s hard to believe he got more than his own vote in Tuesday’s election. Each of them is horrendous, from free bus services to rent control to punitive taxes on those who create prosperity, but none are quite so laughable as his proposal to establish a chain of city-run grocery stores.

"Mamdani’s campaign literature – overflowing with empty leftist jargon – says if elected he “will create a network of city-owned grocery stores focused on keeping prices low, not making a profit.” The mission “is lower prices, not price gouging.” 

"In an interview, the socialist Mamdani said he wants “a pilot program of one store in each borough that builds on the feasibility study that was done in Chicago,” which, incidentally, was never released and has been put on a dusty shelf where it will grow moldy.

"Apparently not even that city’s Marxist mayor believed he could make the idea work.

"It’s nearly impossible to imagine any adult would propose opening government-owned grocery stores. The concept might make for spirited debate in a junior high social studies class. In the real world, though, there are consequences.

“If the city of New York is going socialist, I will definitely close, or sell, or move or franchise the Gristedes locations,” says John Catsimatidis, the CEO of the Gristedes chain, which “has been feeding New Yorkers for over 100 years.”

"This should alarm Mamdani. It won’t. He’ll be glad to get rid of a dirty profit-monger who doesn’t belong in his socialist utopia.

"Far from New York is Erie, Kansas, which became known as the “small town that saved its only grocery store — by buying it.” The city took over Stub’s Market in early 2021 after learning that it was to close.

"But it didn’t go well. The Wall Street Journal reported in October 2023 that it was “losing money almost every month.” City Clerk Jamie Janssen told the Journal that the goal was “to narrow losses to under $100,000 this year.” Losses had reached $132,000 the year before, even though volunteers stock the goods, some of which are donated by local businesses." . . .

Mamdani promises “freebies”   . . ."Mamdani is a ludicrously inexperienced candidate who tends to speak aggressively and insistently, which is the tone of an immature know-it-all. His personal work experience is extremely limited and there are no notable accomplishments marking his life since he graduated from Bowdoin College.

"As a true Marxist, his campaign derives its impetus from the communist slogan of “from each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.” Since life is sustained at a basic level by the air we breathe and the food we eat, he has promised to have government run grocery stores where food prices will be kept down because the stores will not pay property tax or rent. As someone who had many students from the former Soviet Union after it collapsed in 1991, I heard many stories about obtaining food in the USSR under communism where all the grocery stores and butcher shops were government-owned.

"Students regaled me with stories of how family members would have to line up for hours at butcher shops to obtain even one chicken. Furthermore, to even be certain that a decent chicken awaited the customer after a long wait, bribes had to be paid ahead of time to those running the shops. The range of items for sale was quite limited. There was a pathetic lack of choice in the former USSR, a country big on promises but weak on delivery." . . .

"Socialist Zohran Mamdani is too extreme to lead New York City. His entire campaign has been built on unachievable promises and higher taxes, which is the last thing New York needs," Rep. Laura Gillen, D-N.Y., said in a statement Wednesday."
