Trump's behavior during Hurricane Idalia was appalling –

 HotAir

Trump has been spending this time comfortably ensconced in New Jersey while DeSantis has been doing the hard work of governing–governing so well that even Democrats are praising his efforts.

"Trump’s superpower is his outspoken aggressiveness, and his kryptonite is his petty self-centeredness.

"Unfortunately, he married the two during Hurricane Idalia and behaved like an ass.

"I wavered on writing this post because I didn’t want to wade too deeply into presidential politics while riffing on a natural disaster, but since Trump spent the last 72 hours blasting Governor DeSantis while he was actually doing a superb job making the lives of Floridians better I have to comment.

"Starting a couple of days ago it was rumored that Trump sent out the word that he didn’t want any of his supporters to do anything that might make DeSantis look good–including sharing public announcements about the storm. I didn’t bother to write about it because it may have been propaganda to make Trump look bad, although subsequent searches of Trump’s followers showed that even Trump’s Florida-based influencers were remarkably silent about the storm as it crashed into the state.

"It sure looks like Trump sent out the word to stay quiet. But perhaps they decided to do this on their own.

"But there is no question about Trump’s actions themselves. The guy sent out tens of “Truths” attacking DeSantis throughout the storm, producing a hurricane of invective aimed at the governor as he spent 20-hour days working to mitigate the damage.

"Trump dumped over 30 videos of himself on Truth Social since the hurricane hit. About himself and his campaign. He even spent a good amount of time specifically attacking DeSantis–including about the hurricane itself–while DeSantis was dealing with the storm and its aftermath." . . .

Keith Olbermann says Riley Gaines 'sucked at swimming,' inciting online spat

Washington Examiner   Liberal podcaster Keith Olbermann blasted swimming champion and OutKick host Riley Gaines for her support of a Nebraskan bill that defined sex as biological.

Gaines took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to applaud Gov. Jim Pillen (R-NE) on formulating a "Women's Bill of Rights" in an executive order on Wednesday. The order clarifies that "a 'female' is an individual whose biological reproductive system is developed to produce ova."

"THAT is leadership," Gaines wrote of the order. "Thanks for implementing [the Independent Women's Voice's Women's Bill of Rights] and protecting nearly 1 million Nebraskan women. The tide is turning."

"Can you just address the reality and move past it?" Olbermann responded to a post from Gaines on the subject. "You sucked at swimming. That's why you lost."

"Ah, makes sense now why you got fired from ESPN," Gaines replied. Olbermann hasn't worked for the sports network since October 2020." . . .

Look at this Keith!

AOC gets (gently) questioned about her border hypocrisy

"The Tunnel Dweller only attacks me because he knows he can't date me!"

HotAir   "The NY Times published a new interview with AOC, which was pretty clearly prompted by a piece written by Freddie deBoer for NY Magazine last month. It was titled “AOC is just a regular old Democrat now.”

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s recent appearance on the Pod Save America podcast had, for me, the feeling of a final disappointment, the kind that’s a little sad but brings a set of quixotic hopes to a close. AOC appeared on the popular Crooked Media show to announce her endorsement of Joe Biden for president in the 2024 election. To deliver that particular endorsement while appearing on that particular podcast — where former Obama-administration staffers define the limits of acceptable left-of-center opinion — was to send a very deliberate message. It was AOC’s last kiss-off to the radicals who had supported her, voted for her, donated to her campaign, and made her unusually famous in American politics, the beneficiary of a wholly unique cult of personality that is now starting to come
undone.

"When I wrote about that story I highlighted these images from 2018 when AOC was just an unknown candidate.

Tucker Carlson Warns We Are Speeding Toward the Assassination of Trump

We can comment on the silliness of CNN, but no outlet can match MSNBC for narrow-eyed venom and sheer hatred in the persons of Joy Reid, Joe Scarborough, and Donny Duetsch.
The Western Journal.  Tucker Carlson has reached a conclusion that must also have occurred to many of us at some point since 2020.
"Appearing on “The Adam Carolla Show” on Tuesday, Carlson noted that the years-long trajectory of persecution against former President Donald Trump has only one logical end.
" 'We’re speeding toward assassination, obviously,” Carlson said.
Carlson offered this shocking observation as an answer to a question from Carolla about the future. “Are they going to let Trump be president?” Carolla asked.
"Without identifying who “they” might be, Carlson began by reviewing the history of opposition to Trump. The former president’s enemies have subjected him to insults, protests, multiple impeachments and now four separate indictments. Meanwhile, Trump’s popularity has grown.
“ 'So if you begin with criticism, then you go to protest, then you go to impeachment, now you go to indictment, and none of them work, what’s next? I mean, graph it out, man,” Carlson said before making his assassination prediction.
"To be clear, Carlson did not say that an assassination would happen. But he did say that assassination represents the logical conclusion to a relentless campaign of destruction.

. . .“They’re savage animals. They are people that are sick — really sick,” the former president said.

Why don't they employ Keith Olbermann? He was born for that channel. TD

Has the regime finally given the green light to get rid of Biden? -

Revolver News    "The Biden administration is clearly on some very shaky ground right now. The popular theory is that Dems are using Republicans as a tool to take down Biden. They realize that winning in 2024 with Biden at the top of the ticket, even with another wave of sketchy mail-in ballots, is a long shot. The latest scandal is a big one. According to National Archives, Biden sent over 5,400 emails using secret accounts during his vice-presidential tenure, apparently to facilitate he and Hunter’s foreign money hustle. Now, a new very intriguing rumor is making the rounds in the Swamp that could be the ultimate downfall for the Biden Boys. According to Newsmax, there’s evidence that confirms Biden’s guilt beyond any reasonable doubt. Greg Kelly says there’s a video that will end Biden’s 2024 campaign. So, as these scandals continue to pile up the question on everyone’s mind is: have Dems finally given Republicans the green light to oust Biden?

"Here’s what Collin Rugg, the co-founder of Trending Politics had to say about this recent development:

BREAKING: Newsmax host Greg Kelly claims an audio tape containing “incontrovertible evidence of Joe Biden’s corruption” exists and will be released to the public in the coming weeks.

Big if true.

Kelly claimed the audio tape is so explosive that it will force President Biden to drop out of the 2024 race.

“I am told by people in the know… that there is incontrovertible evidence of Joe Biden’s corruption that is about to be made public,” Kelly stated.

“He will not be able to remain a candidate for the presidency for reelection. It will be over and done with.”

“They’re worried about it right now at the White House.”

CNN Sinks To All-Time Low To Defend Biden (msn.com)

"Right on cue, CNN came rush to the defense of President Joe Biden’s “routine” summer vacation in preparation for “workaday realities” in Washington, D.C. amid “Republican backlash.”

In reality, Biden has set an all-time record by vacationing 40% of the time while in office. In just 2.5 years in office, Biden has vacationed for an entire year." . .

“Heading home from Lake Tahoe on Saturday, President Joe Biden exchanged a week of waterfront seclusion for the more workaday realities of running the country from Washington.” (Poll: Is CNN ‘Fake News’? VOTE)

“ 'With the vacations usually comes criticism,” the left-wing network continued. “For Biden, the harshest attacks came following the Maui fires. Although he quickly signed an emergency declaration and worked to marshal federal resources, a ‘no comment’ when questioned about the death toll on the beach led to days of Republican backlash. (The White House later said Biden couldn’t hear the question.).”. . .

Who’s above the law? How about Hunter Biden, Hillary Clinton and BLM rioters, for starters

Consequently, federal officials telling pleasant fictions about no one being above the law only serve to highlight the distance between the elites and the people, between stated aspirations and ugly truths.

AfterMath - Home (terrellaftermath.com)

Who's above the law? How about Hunter Biden, Hillary Clinton and BLM rioters, for starters - Washington Times    "Recently, we have had to endure a series of reminders that “no person is above the law” from a batch of folks, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Attorney General Merrick Garland and Republican Rep. Mike Turner of Ohio.

"But that is not really true, is it?

"There are many, many people who are and have been, at least so far, above the law. Here’s a very short list:

• Hunter Biden, and the “big guy,” aka President Biden, assuming he really did profit from whatever Hunter was doing with the communist Chinese, the Ukrainians or the Mexicans.

• The honorable Hillary Clinton.

• The FBI agents who offered whatever wound up being necessary for the FISA court to issue warrants to surveil the Trump campaign in 2016.

• BLM rioters/“mostly peaceful” protesters.

• “Mostly peaceful” pro-abortion protesters, either picketing outside the homes of Supreme Court justices or tossing the occasional firebomb through the windows of a pregnancy center

• The folks who gave you the wholly fabricated Steele dossier.

• The 5 million people who have crossed the southern border in contravention of American law since Mr. Biden became president.

• Everyone in the Bush administration who was absolutely certain and completely wrong about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

• Everyone in the Obama administration involved in the extrajudicial killing of an American citizen (Anwar al-Awlaki).

• Everyone who has committed or is committing crimes that local district attorneys in places like New York City, Philadelphia and Los Angeles don’t feel like prosecuting.

• Medical professionals who perform gender-transition surgery on those too young to give consent.

• The federal government teams at Ruby Ridge or the Branch Davidian ranch near Waco, Texas.

"So, it turns out that quite a few people are above the law.

"Maybe everyone who is busy telling us no one is above the law have other folks in mind."

Apparently, Not All Black Lives Matter

 Ann Coulter (townhall.com)

But media coverage that reflected reality wouldn't keep the nation in a panic over the imaginary scourge of white supremacy. Bashing whites is more soul-satisfying than treating black people like adults. Also, ginning up black hatred of whites helps create more exciting crime stories for journalists to report!

"Let's be honest: As far as the media are concerned, most black lives don't matter. Only in the tiny, infinitesimally small percentage of cases when a black person is killed by a white guy do the media sit up and take notice.

"Thus, while there was blanket coverage of a white racist 21-year-old (mentally ill, it hardly needs mentioning) who killed three black people in Jacksonville, Florida, on Saturday, the families of Khaaliq Williams, 16, Hamza Ali Omar, 18, Allan Howard, 34, Ashuntice Wilburn, 17, RayJohn Harshaw, 14, and Brandon Hatcher Jr., 24, mourned alone.

"Those are just some of the black Chicagoans murdered two weekends ago in one single city in an area comprising about 14 square miles.

"Am I cherry-picking by going back two weeks? No, I just wanted to wait for more information on some of the murdered black people whose deaths the media weren't interested in covering.

"The wildly atypical killing in Jacksonville has already generated hundreds of thousands of stories on Google. The New York Times alone has run about dozen stories on those three black victims -- with more to come!"...

Joe Biden: Stupid Or Liar? Well, he IS a 21st Century Democrat.

Biden Reportedly ‘Fumed’ About Being ‘Treated Like a Toddler’ by Staff (freebeacon.com)  "President Joe Biden reportedly complained to friends that his staff "treated him like a toddler," according to a new book on the Biden administration.

"Rather than owning his failure, he fumed to his friends about how he was treated like a toddler. Was John Kennedy ever babied like that?" reads the new book, The Last Politician by Atlantic writer Franklin Foer. The incident was reportedly provoked by staffers at the White House who immediately walked back a comment Biden made in March 2022, when he said Russian president Vladimir Putin "cannot remain in power."

"The book claims Biden "resented his aides for creating the impression that they had cleaned up his mess." . . .

Poll: Americans Know Biden Is Too Old, Slow, and Stupid to Be President (townhall.com)  . . ."I’m Joe Biden. I’m a Democrat. I’m right. It’ll all sort out.’ That’s the mindset of this man. Inflation is transitory. Remember that one? He can’t do the job. He’s lost. He can’t create any more task forces—he already has several of them. None of them have done anything. It reinforces the notion that the adults are not in charge. The White House is a nursing home. And gross incompetence is pervasive within the walls of this administration. Gas prices are through the roof, inflation is killing American families, job growth is anemic, and the economy shrank last quarter. It’ll shrink next quarter which means we're officially in a recession. We’re already in it, but I just want to see the liberal media sweat trying to defend a recession as a Biden accomplishment. And now, majorities of Americans see Biden as too old and slow to be president. He’s also too stupid (via National Review):. . .

Joe Biden: Stupid Or Liar? (townhall.com)   . . ."Those are unlikely. As I pointed out at the time, Barack Obama had the exact same situation in regards to Benghazi – he was either lying or had a direct order ignored by the military when he said in an interview that his first action upon hearing the attack was to order everything be done to protect those in Libya. Since no help was sent, either he was lying or someone disobeyed a direct order from the President and cost Americans their lives. There was never any follow-up, and we still don’t even know where Obama physically was during the attack.

"That leaves us to wonder under Biden, just as we did under Obama, is the President of the United States stupid or a liar? Or, more accurately, which combination of both is it?"

This Is Just A Preview Of How The Dishonest Media Will Lie And Mislead About Trump’s Show Trials

Quotes and summaries reported by the media are always either half wrong or deliberately misleading. The Trump trials will be the same.

This Is A Preview Of How Media Will Lie About Trump's Show Trials (thefederalist.com)

. . .A perfect example of that truism was provided this week by Axios’ Mike Allen, who claimed Monday that Georgia Democrat prosecutor Fani Willis included an “Easter egg” in her I’m-a-very-serious-lawyer indictment. Allen said that a specific portion of the documents had “a twist” that “could spoil” Trump’s legal team’s effort to have the entire case moved to federal court, a move that could possibly secure him a more favorable jury (as opposed to the pool of “marginalized, underserved and disadvantaged” voters he would surely get in Fulton County).

"That “twist” is an open letter Trump sent to Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger in September 2021, which was after the former president was out of office, thus supposedly undercutting the Trump team’s assertion that the criminal charges are purely federal in nature, rather than addressable at the county court level. In that letter, the indictment notes, Trump solicited Raffensperger to “unlawfully” undo the 2020 election outcome “and announce the true winner.”  "Here’s that portion of the indictment in full:

Suicide DISCOVERY - White House refuses to admit it

American Wire News  Suicides by women in Afghanistan are skyrocketing according to a new report that has come out a year after President Biden catastrophically pulled US forces from the country handing it over to the Taliban.

"The despair of Afghanistan women suffering under the deadly oppression of the Taliban is palpable to all women and it should bring great shame to the Biden administration.

"One young woman was kept from becoming a doctor and then was forced into a marriage with her cousin who was a heroin addict. She felt she had nothing left to live for and proceeded to take her own life in a country where more women than men commit suicide.

“ 'I had two options: to marry an addict and live a life of misery or take my own life,” the 18-year-old stated during a phone interview from her home in central Ghor province with The Guardian. “I chose the latter.” . . .

KJP: The misinformers yell loudest about misinformation

There was never any evidence Trump colluded with the Russians but the media continuously used Adam Schiff as a source to spread misinformation.

Jack Hellner - American Thinker   . . ."The media colluded with Democrats to challenge the 2016 election and call Trump an illegitimate President but now they act like anyone challenging an election is a threat to democracy.

The media colluded with Fauci and others to block an investigation of the Wuhan lab as the source by falsely calling it a disproven conspiracy theory. They sought to silence those who disagreed with government talking points and edicts.

"The media participated in spreading the “hands up don’t shoot” lie to gin up racial hate, division, and violence against white cops. How many cops have been injured or killed because of that intentional lie?

"The media has allowed Biden and others to lie for years about what Trump said in Charlottesville in order to perpetuate the lie that Trump is a racist. They know that Trump repeatedly denounced white supremacists and Nazi’s but don’t care. The media and other Democrats always play the race card because they don’t want to defend their unpopular policies.

"The media, especially the WaPo, sought to destroy Judge Kavanagh with unverified accusations. There was not one ounce of evidence showing this was true but the media and other Democrats didn’t care. They are the party of personal destruction. They seek to destroy anyone who gets in their way whether the people are black like Clarence Thomas or Tim Scott or women like Sarah Palin or Kari Lake or an orange man like Donald Trump. All that matters is that they are conservatives or Republicans.

"The WaPo even sought to destroy Christian boys for the crime of wearing MAGA hats. They were accused of being racists. There were videos showing the allegations weren’t true, but the truth hasn’t mattered for a long time." . . .

KJP’s terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day at the WH press room podium - American Thinker    . . ."Face it, Karine Jean-Pierre does have a tough job, unless you think her real job is simply to be the first black, female LGBTQWERTY press secretary, in which case she doing splendidly by remaining female (and she does have choices, we are told), Black, and so far as we know still sapphic. After all, putting a happy face on the corruption, incoherence, incompetence, and sheer stupidity of her president is a mighty challenge." . . .

White House Refuses to Say Whether Boys Playing Girls Sports Is a 'Women's Rights Issue' (breitbart.com)

Native Americans - Indians- outraged by Washington Commanders staffer’s insult

A heartwarming video of Nevada rangers taking down environmental activists

"It's every driver's nightmare: you're heading to the airport, the labor and delivery room, your dying parent's bedside, your daughter's elementary school play, your child's preschool pickup (which charges you $10 a minute if you're late), or just home from a long day at work, and you find yourself stuck in a traffic jam.  Infinitely worse is when that jam occurs as you're heading to Burning Man, not because of an accident or legitimate road work, but because of climate activists sitting in the middle of the road.  But in Nevada, on tribal land, the rangers did something wonderful, the kind of thing that makes you want to stand up and cheer."

UPDATE: A friend wrote with the following information:

Those are Paiute Indian Rangers doing the arrests. They are tough because they have to deal with a lot of problems with alcohol and drugs among their own people. They have a slightly different court system on the Reservation than what these protesters are expecting to receive in a White Man’s courtroom.

One of the things I loved about this video is the instant justice.  These activists know that, once the arrest is a done deal, they're home free.  Some leftist group or Hollywood star will pay their bail, and a plea deal will be worked out that says that the three hours before their bail was paid constitutes "time served."

. . ." Stuff that works in blue cities but doesn’t seem to work in Nevada:

“We were just standing here” “What’s your badge number?” “Please, we’re just environmental protestors” “I’m not part of this”

Joe Biden's long racist record is a specter to behold

After three years of Trump’s presidency of lower tax rates, fewer regulations., low inflation, and energy independence, the economy was lifting all boats. Poverty hit all time record lows dating back to 1959. Think of how much better it could have been if the media and other Democrats hadn’t sought to destroy Trump and his policies every day.

Joe Biden's long racist record is a specter to behold - American Thinker   . . ."Maybe the reason the student thinks Joe Biden would be a good source is because she believes the congenital liar when he says he marched with the Civil Rights movement. He didn’t.

2 truths and 31 lies Joe Biden has told about his work in the Civil Rights Movement

Since the early 1970s, Joe Biden has been a serial liar when it comes to his "work" in the Civil Rights Movement. It's the equivalent of stolen valor and is fundamentally disqualifying.

When I marched in the Civil Rights movement, I did not march with a 12-point program, I marched with tens of thousands of others to change attitudes, and we changed attitudes.”

Except Joe Biden never marched in the Civil Rights Movement. Not once. He didn’t march with or without a 12 point program. It was a complete fabrication.

In 1983 Joe Biden was a keynote speaker at the Democratic Conference in Maine and falsely claimed there to participate in sit-ins at movie theaters and restaurants to desegregate them when he was 17 years old in 1960.

Joe Biden did no such thing. In fact, nobody did.

Candace Owens Stands Up To Nancy Pelosi With An EXPLOSIVE Speech

"What's most inspiring about Candace Owens is knowing her background. I used to drive through the rural Eastern North Carolina small Farms in tobacco country where she grew up. It was a shortcut for me to the interstate. Her grandparents raised her in one of these small farm houses dotting the rural countryside. Yet, encouraged by her grandfather, she applied herself in school and the rest is/will be history. Look at her now!"

Karine Jean-Pierre: I Was Picked for the Role Because I'm 'Beyond Capable'

Karine Jean-Pierre: I Was Picked for the Role Because I'm 'Beyond Capable' (townhall.com)     She aimed for capable and missed it by a mile. TD

"Back in June, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre spoke with theGrio on multiple occasions to promote herself as "historic" and said "I cannot fail," as "it's not an option." It looks like this lack of humility is a pattern, given that she's also "beyond capable," and that that is why President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden picked her for the job.

"The remarks in question come from a podcast recorded in March with Stacy Brown that is once more gaining attention. When discussing how she was picked for the job, Jean-Pierre offered that "they decided to put me in this position," speaking of the president and first lady. "They decided that they wanted Karine Jean-Pierre, with all of the things, all of the communities that I represent, clearly being a black person, right, being a black woman. They said, we want you to represent us, we want you to represent the White House. We want to meet this moment that we're in, and we know that you are beyond capable of doing that, right. You are--you are, uh, you are experienced, and you are the voice that we want to have."

"She then told Brown that "knowing that I am representing the voice of the president, then I have to do that, right? That's the job." In that case, then, it would appear, that the president doesn't know much of what's going on or would defer to others, given how often Jean-Pierre doesn't have answers or is referring the press to other departments. She's often blamed the Trump administration for issues, too." . . .

Liberals gloated, then reality struck

Thank Tom DeLay for Trump's mugshot - Don Surber (substack.com)

. . ."Trump has the power of a innocent man falsely accused of nonsensical crimes with serious penalties for corrupt judges to impose. Americans back him as never before. The message is clear. We either fight back together or we die alone."

"Let’s start the week off right with a nice big cuppa liberal tears. For eight years, liberals dreamed of seeing President Trump in a mugshot. They finally got their wish.

"Liberals gloated, then reality struck.

"The Hill reported, “Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-N.Y.) shared a video of him laughing at the mugshot photo and saying, ‘We got you, and more to come . . . Clown, thug, crook, criminal.’”

"The tweet is here.

"Shortly afterward, the congressman realized the error Democrats made.

"He panicked and tweeted, 'This mugshot is not what you think it is.

“ 'It’s a jackpot for Trump who will use this image to raise MILLIONS of dollars from his cult — and the worst part is they are going to use it to win even more elections so they can change our laws to make it easier to steal our democracy.

“ 'It’s a symbol of everything that is wrong with our country. It is a reminder of the deep divisions that exist, the hatred that is spewed, and hate is tolerated. It is a sign that our democracy is in danger." . . .

Trump’s minacious mugshot owes a tip of his MAGA hat to Tom DeLay, the former Republican congressman from Texas who would have been the Speaker of the House when Dennis Hastert resigned and went to prison for having sex with male minors.

On October 20, 2005, DeLay had to pose for a mugshot after a Democrat prosecutor indicted him over the same kind of horseshit that Fani Willis, Alvin Bragg and Jack Smith are indicting him on. DeLay turned the mugshot against the prosecutors.

“Answer: A photo of DeLay grinning from ear to ear doesn’t pack quite the punch in a Democratic attack ad as one that looks more like the mugshot of, say, actor Hugh Grant, after his arrest in 1995 for picking up a prostitute.

. . ."Liberals know their charges are bogus, which is why they now fear Trump because his mugshot shows he will fight them in court and fight them in his second term in a manner never seen before.

"Sorry Republicans, you have no choice but Donald Trump. He has to win because if he goes down, all hope for restoring our republic goes with him. That mugshot liberals spent millions on witch hunts backfired. Their sobs are music to mine ears."

7 Major Failures of the Biden Presidency (dailysignal.com)   . . ."Over half of those surveyed couldn’t come up with a single success during Biden’s first year in office.
“I’m hard-pressed to think of a single thing he has done that benefits the country,” one respondent wrote, according to CNN." . . .

Biden's Strategic Failures in Foreign Policy (senate.gov)   "Testifying before the Senate Armed Services Committee, Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Mark Milley called the U.S. pullout from Afghanistan “a strategic failure.” The same can be said of many of the Biden administration’s foreign policy decisions. The missteps and failures are alienating America’s allies, strengthening our enemies, and threatening our national security."...

A President Joe Biden, we were told, would be a moderate president, one who could unite Americans and competently lead our nation.

"Talk about fake news.

"Ten months into the Biden presidency, it’s clear that he is neither moderate nor, despite decades in Washington as a senator and vice president, competent.

"Yet perhaps no president was ever better set up to be successful.

Why you rarely believe celebrity apologies on social media -

  BBC Worklife

On social media, posts of contrition from public figures are endless. They usually flop.

"At a recent concert in the European country of Georgia, rock band The Killers found themselves in the middle of a decades-long political conflict. On 16 Aug, lead singer Brandon Flowers invited a Russian audience member on stage and asked the crowd to treat the fan as a "brother". The request was met with immediate boos and even walkouts; the backlash continued after the show.

"The next day, the musicians issued a swift social media apology via X, formerly known as Twitter. They wrote, in part: "We recognise that a comment, meant to suggest that all of The Killers' audience and fans are 'brothers and sisters', could be misconstrued. We did not mean to upset anyone and apologise."

"That social media apology came the same week Tiffany Gomas apologised on Instagram for delaying an American Airlines flight; and members of the cast of the reality show Below Deck: Down Under apologised on their individual social accounts for an incident of sexual harassment that took place while filming the current season.

"In a social media-centric world, apologies have become compulsory; increasingly, audiences are demanding responses from celebrities and CEOs alike to address a range of missteps, such as mass layoffs, extra-marital affairs, the use of racist or hateful language or even criminal activity.

"It's a change from the world of sterile press releases from publicity reps. Instead, public figures now use social media to convey their contrition. They intend these apologies to meet their audiences where they are – be it Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, X or even LinkedIn – with the hope the platforms will help to mimic the good faith of a face-to-face mea culpa." . . .
