Stephen Colbert’s Costly Mistake; Johnny Carson he is not.

 Jeffrey Lord

"Late-night audiences are not climbing into bed after a hard day of work to be lectured on the politics of the moment. They want to chill. To laugh."

"More than $40 million.

That’s the pricy sum the Stephen Colbert–hosted Late Show was losing every year for CBS, according to news reports.

One would think that, this being the case, Colbert and his bosses would have long ago taken a serious look at what wasn’t working and changed course. Simply put: Fix the problem!

"The problem, of course, was something Colbert was unwilling to fix.

"That problem? His obsession with President Donald Trump.

"One of the reasons for the continual success for the man known back in the day as “The King of Late Night” — that would be NBC’s Johnny Carson — was that he made sure that when he or his guests went after the president of the moment, it was always done for laughs.

"Take a look here from this clip now on YouTube. Carson’s guest of the moment was the comedian/impressionist Rich Little — and, as you can see, Little’s Nixon routine was not some serious lecture on Nixon’s politics and issues of the day. To the contrary, Little did his best Nixon imitation, exaggerating Nixon’s mannerisms to the max and leaving both his audience and Carson in stitches.

"Alas, Colbert is utterly unwilling or unable to go down the road of making humor out of a president. What Colbert is about is thinly veiled humor that is so obviously a stern, humorless lesson promoting far-left politics. And, in doing so, he usually includes a stern lecture about Trump. Or addresses the president directly, as just in the last few days when  Colbert looked into the camera and told Trump…

"Hmmm. This being a family publication, I will not print what he said. A link to a Fox News headline will suffice to get the point across of the kind of anti-Trump behavior Colbert thinks acceptable.

"Bear in mind that this is late-night TV. Americans are either getting ready to head to bed or already tucked in, slowly starting to doze off to dreamland. The last thing they want after a long day of work and kids is some humorless alleged comedian acting like a jack lecturing them on politics." . . .

Colbert just could never come up to Johnny Carson's level:

Johnny Carson as Reagan, a "Who's On First" spoof   "Johnny Carson is posing as Ronald Reagan preparing himself for a press conference. Originally aired in 1982, it is a spoof on the famous Abbott & Costello "Who's On First" routine. Except this time it is Hu (premier of China), Watt (Sec of Interior, James Watt), Where, Y (YMCA), and Yassir (Arafat). Fred Holliday (born Fred Grossinger) is the actor playing Reagan's Chief of Staff."

Firing Colbert has to be the end of America.

Not "Democratic", but now "Democrat"

We are no longer the knights who say "Democratic"

Rich Terrell

What’s in an adjective? ‘Democrat Party’ label on the rise   . . . "The shared grammatical construction — incorrect use of the noun “Democrat” as an adjective — was far from the most shocking thing about the two men’s statements. But it identified them as members of the same tribe, conservatives seeking to define the opposition through demeaning language.

"Amid bipartisan calls to dial back extreme partisanship following the insurrection, the intentional misuse of “Democrat” as an adjective remains in nearly universal use among Republicans. Propelled by conservative media, it also has caught on with far-right elements that were energized by the Trump presidency.

"Academics and partisans disagree on the significance of the word play. Is it a harmless political tactic intended to annoy Republicans’ opponents, or a maliciously subtle vilification of one of America’s two major political parties that further divides the nation?

"Thomas Patterson, a political communication professor at Harvard’s Shorenstein Center on Media, Politics and Public Policy, said using “Democrat” as an adjective delivers a “little twist” of the knife with each usage because it irritates Democrats, but sees it as little more than that." . . .

Media's never-ending Trumpgates

 Don Surber

"What is it this time? Qatargate? Paradegate? Not Epstein AGAIN!"

"So what was the media-made scandal this week? Not Epstein again. Sheesh, the dude died six years ago. They are really desperate.
"BORING!
"But if the media insists on talking about Epstein, let’s see them report on the letter Dom Lucre posted on Twitter. He said, “On July 6, 2007, a 23-page letter from Jeffrey Epstein's lawyers Alan Dershowitz and Gerald Lefcourt stated that Epstein was Co-founder of the Clinton Global Initiative which became the Clinton Foundation.
" 'The letter was tied to a successful plea deal before Epstein was charged, this directly ties Hillary and Bill Clinton to Epstein’s network.”
"Don’t expect George Stephanopoulos to break the story.
"Many things have changed from the first Trump presidency in his second presidency. Congress is cooperating. His Cabinet is capable and loyal. The border is closed. DEI is dead. Spending is being cut by a trillion-plus dollars over the next 10 years.
"But the media has not changed. It keeps trying to bring him with a new complaint just about every week.". . .

. . ."Then there was the scandal manufactured by Jonathan Karl of Disney’s ABC. Karl has written 3 anti-Trump books while being a totally objective reporter.
"On May 11, Karl reported, “In what may be the most valuable gift ever extended to the United States from a foreign government, the Trump administration is preparing to accept a super luxury Boeing 747-8 jumbo jet from the royal family of Qatar—a gift that is to be available for use by President Donald Trump as the new Air Force One until shortly before he leaves office, at which time ownership of the plane will be transferred to the Trump presidential library foundation, sources familiar with the proposed arrangement told ABC News.”
"The headline called the plane a Palace in the Sky.

Wrong.

The gift was to the Air Force.

The plane will be stripped down and rebuilt.

The plane will be used by the next president and likely several more presidents after that as an Air Force One plane.

"But the Deep State Drudge Report spread the lie so Mickey Mouse’s favorite reporter got away with it."

"Obama has officially moved from “shifty guy in the shadows”

Revolver

The walls are caving in… fast and furious style. Yes, pun intended.

"For years, the American people have been gaslit, silenced, and lied to. We were told that Russiagate was real, that Trump was Putin’s puppet, and that the intelligence community had the evidence to prove it.

"But now, the whole thing is blowing wide open, thanks to President Trump and Tulsi Gabbard. And what’s being exposed isn’t just some shady political hit job; it’s something way bigger. This was an orchestrated coup attempt. A deliberate, calculated, and sinister scheme to take out a presidential candidate and then sabotage him once he won.

"This wasn’t some leak or a goofy misunderstanding. This was fake intel, manufactured in the shadows of the Obama White House and funneled straight into the media through a pipeline of deceit, manipulation, and weaponized propaganda.

"And the key players weren’t low-level flunkies or anonymous bureaucrats. They were the highest levels of Obama’s regime.

"Obama has officially moved from “shifty guy in the shadows” to full-blown conspirator. The situation is changing fast, and there’s something else developing that your average reader hasn’t fully grasped yet—a new DOJ “Strike Force” operation aimed at Barry and his merry coconspirators that could change everything.

"We’ll get to that in a minute…

"But first, Tulsi Gabbard just dropped a nuclear truth bomb, and it might go down as one of the most important six-minute press conferences in US political history.

"In this presser, Tulsi doesn’t speculate or theorize. She’s got actual receipts.

"She explains that the intel presented to Obama and his top brass in 2016 made it painfully clear:

  • Putin was NOT backing Trump
  • He was convinced Hillary would win.
  • He was holding “blackmail-level” dirt on her for when she took office.
  • Including the explosive revelation that Hillary Clinton appeared to be a bipolar mess, drugged up on tranquilizers.

"We’re not talking about some run-of-the-mill dirty politics game. This appears to be a criminal conspiracy that ran straight through the heart of the Obama regime.

Watch:

Obama’s Self-Incriminating Defense

Obama: the man who referred to his administration as "my Secretary of Defense", my Secretary of State", "my Cabinet", ad nauseum.

  Jeannie DeAngelis

"Barack Obama had the power and influence to set things right, but his ego, hatred for Trump, and his evil intent toward anyone who disagrees with him led him to do otherwise."

"For two decades, Barack Obama has demonstrated, through words and deeds, that his deference is toward no one other than himself.  This is a man who behaves as if he were ordained to deliver America from the faults of the forty-two presidents that preceded him and to straighten out any president who succeeds him.  That’s why it took the former Commander-in-Chief a whole seven days of being subjected to prison memes and accusations of “treason” to manifest public indignation over being perceived as anything less than Messianic.

"Barack Obama pretends that he would never levy a war against the U.S. or take up arms against the American people.  However, by providing material support to a party at war with the Constitution, it appears he would, and he has.  The only difference is that Obama’s weapons of warfare are political subterfuge, deceit, and manipulation.

"Partial to what constitutes “misinformation” and what does not, the former president defended himself against the recent controversial accusations coming from the Trump administration.  In response to Donald Trump’s statement that Obama and his band of sleazy warriors committed “treason” during and after the 2016 presidential election, the former president sent out a spokesperson to address what he is calling “a desperate distraction,” “misinformation,” and “bizarre allegations.”

"Obama is reacting because the current Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, recently declassified documents revealing that he was integral in a plan to cover up intel gathered by then-Director of National Intelligence, James Clapper, that proved Russia tried but could not exercise influence over the 2016 election.  Because the intelligence did not serve the left’s goal to diminish Donald Trump in the eyes of the nation, the then-president of the United States chose instead to cover up the facts.  In place of making the truth about Russian non-interference public, acting under his guidance and approval, Obama and his administration coordinated a treacherous plot to promote the idea that Russia was the only reason Trump defeated Hillary."...

Karoline Leavitt just CALLED OUT the Fake News reporters in the Briefing room to their face over their efforts to spread the Russiagate Hoax!

Whatfinger; Karoline Leavitt just CALLED OUT the Fake News reporters

Democrats: unearned Pulitzers and unmerited Nobels  . . ."This is truly one of the greatest political scandals in American history," Leavitt told the press. "And reporters at legacy outlets, some of which are sitting in this room today, like The New York Times and The Washington Post, were ridiculously awarded Pulitzer prizes for their perpetuation of this hoax."

"It's well past time for those awards to be stripped from the journalist who received them," she added. "It is not journalism to propagate political disinformation in service of the Democrat Party and those in the intelligence community who hand over out-of-context and fake intelligence to push a false political narrative." . . .

Gonzo Gaslighting: How the Media Turn Molotovs into Protests and Prosecutors into Villains

. . . "That piece—The Ideological Hustle Masquerading as Journalism—examined how “advocates say” and incendiary or manipulative language are increasingly used to distort facts, assign victimhood, and turn criminal enforcement into a moral offense.

"Politico offers yet another case study in narrative manipulation—this time leaning hard into passive framing and insinuation by adjacency, subtly recasting law enforcement as persecution and protest as immunity.

"What Politico delivered here is gonzo gaslighting—where Molotov cocktails are softened into protest props and federal law enforcement is painted as the villain for doing its job." . . .

Scott Adams: Prosecute Obama & Brennan for Russia Hoax, Even if it Risks Civil War  “For most of my adult life, I would have said, “No, no, you don’t want to go prosecuting the last administration.” Because once you start doing that, everybody’s going to be trying to prosecute the last administration. Except that’s what the Democrats did to Trump when he was out of office. They went after him. And to which I say, well, they took the gloves off. They changed the rules. So, I believe that they have given Trump a free punch.”

Much ado about Colbert*, who "built a career on smug, anti-Trump screeds"

Kevin O’Leary: 'Only a Moron' Would Behave Like Stephen Colbert

"But that wasn't the fatal blow. CBS could have cut the staff to the bone and hired a cheaper host — if they believed there was still life left in the late-night format. Fox’s Greg Gutfeld is the lone exception — but he abandoned the format years ago. No desk, no monologue, no scripted celebrity guests. Just a budget setup, a panel of sharp weirdos — and ratings that make the networks wince."

"Stephen Colbert built a brand on letting his Trump Derangement Syndrome drive his comedy. It finally caught up with him, and CBS is cancelling his show.

"Of course, leftists blame everything they don’t like on Donald Trump. When the president celebrated CBS’s decision, Colbert took to the airwaves on Monday to get ugly.

“ 'Would an untalented man be able to compose the following satirical witticism: ‘Go f*** yourself,’” Colbert said with particular nastiness.

"I would argue that profanity doesn’t take talent. If Colbert had the level of talent and sophistication that he claims he possesses, he would’ve been able to come up with something witty. Instead, he revealed himself to be a nasty hack with nothing better to say than an F-bomb." . . .

"To be fair, I can’t imagine how frustrating it is to lose your job like Colbert has. But to handle it as gracelessly — TDS or not — as he is reveals something unflattering about his character. It’s not a good look."

Letterman was funny and entertaining, sure, but never missed a chance to dig at Republicans.

CBS announced it will not replace Stephen Colbert with another chat program. Maybe they could try a comedy show.  . . ."For the Democrats, the Colbert cancellation is just one more loss inflicted on them by Donald Trump in his first six months in office. The proof is their hysterical — in both senses of the word — reactions. “Stephen Colbert is the best in the business,” tweeted former VP nominee and Dem macho man Tim Walz. “He always told truth to power and pulled no punches.” Best what, one might ask — mope, hack, scold? Certainly not comedian. And as for always telling the truth, his cringeworthy vaccine dance number during the COVID scare should dispel that idea." . . .

"Fox News’ Greg Gutfeld mocked them all, to include Joe Biden poop jokes*. The result is Gutfeld’s 3.2-million nightly viewers tops Colbert’s 2.4 million, Kimmel’s 1.7 million, Fallon’s 1.2 million, and Meyer’s sub-million at a fraction of their production cost. Gutfeld hit close to five million viewers one night last September, when his guest was Donald Trump. He has one more big advantage over his four rivals. He’s funny." . . .

*Sorry, but I find Gutfeld a turnoff at that particular juncture. TD

Johnny Carson Silences '60 Minutes' Host with Answer He Didn’t See Coming

"Dave Rubin of "The Rubin Report" shares a DM clip of Johnny Carson telling "60 Minutes'" Mike Wallace why he didn't discuss politics on "The Tonight Show" and why future late night comedians like Stephen Colbert would be wise to follow his advice."

Remember when Barack, Hillary, and the media ruled America? UPDATED

Be aware that Tulsi Gabbard now holds the post once held by James Clapper.

How many Hillary Clinton foibles will it take before all but the true believers understand how corrupt many democrats are?  . . ."But 2016 politics? There was a simple rule: If the topic is Hillary, just shut up and smile.

"Today, we've read intelligence documents, eyewitness accounts, foreign heads of state, and Secret Service agents all telling the same stories: That lady was unstable and everybody knew it.

"The media just didn't fail us; they lied, mocked, and protected a walking liability with both physical and emotional explosions." . . .

All the President’s (Obama’s) Men and Women   "
Reporters leapt at the chance to use the Watergate burglary to drive Nixon from office. Obamagate elicits no such urgency."
. . ."Obama never would have become president had it not been for a fawning media exemplified by former MSNBC political commentator Chris Matthews who once admitted that he felt a “thrill going up my leg” when Obama spoke. They won’t turn on him now. Nor will they turn on Hillary Clinton, Susan Rice, James Comey, John Brennan, Andrew McCabe, Loretta Lynch, James Clapper, and other officials whom Obama reportedly directed to create a new intelligence assessment that implicated Russia in helping Trump win the presidency in 2016 — because the original intelligence assessment did not support the Trump-Russia collusion story." . . .

Report: Hillary Clinton Was a Little 'Psycho-Emotional,' Given ‘Heavy Tranquilizers’ During 2016 Campaign

"A declassified 2020 House Intelligence Committee report alleges that Russian intelligence claimed Hillary Clinton suffered from "psycho-emotional problems" and was on "heavy tranquilizers" during the 2016 presidential campaign.

"The report, declassified and made public Wednesday by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, claims information on the former First Lady's fragile emotional state was reportedly kept secret by President Barack Obama and Democratic leaders at the time." . . .

10 Ideas For Better Shows To Replace 'The Late Show' With Stephen Colbert

Babylon Bee

"After announcing the cancellation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, CBS is hard at work searching for a better program to replace their old flagship. Here are ten great ideas that would be way better than The Late Show:
  1. "Larry The Dying Leper: This show is just watching a man slowly die of leprosy. Way funnier!
  2. "Kidney Stone Watch90 straight minutes of a dude trying to pass a kidney stone.
  3. "That old "KaBoom" infomercial with Billy Mays on loop: Such a classic.
  4. "Cemetery Cam: Nothing but a livestream from a camera at a cemetery. Big upgrade, CBS.
  5. "The Ingrown Toenail Experience: Way less painful than the "Vax-Scene."
  6. "Dora The Explorer: Eh, pretty close call.
  7. "Mold: Watch bread slowly grow mold in some family's closet. What an improvement.
  8. "Moist Madness: People saying the word "moist" repeatedly for an hour and a half. Much less cringey.
  9. "Who Wants To Be An Orphan?Sad, yes, but still better.
  10. "A commie screeching and crying but at the end someone comes out and whacks him with a stick: Sweet.

"So many great options. You're welcome for the help, CBS."

Is Decapitation a Job Americans Won’t Do?

 Ann Coulter

"The permanent war crowd demand that we get deeply involved in every catastrophe all over the world, just not the catastrophe happening to us. Trump’s slogan, “Make America Great Again!” has never been so apt."

"Oh look, another American’s been beheaded by a Mexican.

This week’s beheader is Jose Luis Mendoza-Gonzalez, an illegal alien who, according to the Department of Homeland Security, decapitated 37-year-old Megan Bos, then stashed her body in a bleach storage container. Arrested for the crime in April, Mendoza-Gonzalez was promptly released from custody by Illinois judge Randie Bruno, who is the same physical type — chubby, short-haired, white woman — as the Milwaukee judge charged with helping an illegal sneak out of her courtroom to avoid ICE agents.

"Illinois: sanctuary state for Mexican decapitators.

"Because they’re not busy enough rounding up the 20 million pillars of society Joe Biden allowed to sneak into America, Immigration and Customs Enforcement had to devote time and resources this week to recapturing Mendoza-Gonzalez. Otherwise, you never would have heard about it, and liberals could keep pretending not to know that Mexican drug cartels decapitate people.

"Remember the hilarity that greeted Gov. Jan Brewer back in 2010 for talking about cartels leaving beheaded bodies the Arizona desert?

The left exploded in angry indignation, with mocking cartoons, parodies, fact-checks and blistering headlines in newspapers around the country.

"You’d think she’d accused Mexicans of something totally preposterous, like dominating the Nobel Prizes in physics. Heard of the Aztecs? Human sacrifice and cannibalism were the high points of Mexican culture.

"Politifact ruled Brewer’s claim “PANTS ON FIRE!” saying it was “completely made up and an example of fearmongering of the worst kind used by Brewer to manipulate an already emotional national debate on immigration.”

"The Washington Post’s Dana Milbank’s witty take was: “Ay, caramba! Those dark-skinned foreigners are now severing the heads of fair-haired Americans? Maybe they’re also scalping them or shrinking them or putting them on a spike.”

"Actually, Dana, the scalping and head-shrinking are practices of other primitive cultures that also have no place in an advanced Western society. Mexican culture is the one known for decapitation and dismemberment. Don’t worry — lots of people make that same mistake. After a while, primitive cultures all start to look alike." . . .  More here...

Colbert Clearly Doesn't Have 'It' Anymore

Michael Katz

"When asked by Darcy whether Colbert dropping the F-bomb on Trump threatened the future of the deal, Carr replied: "lol, no," according to the Post"

"Federal Communications Chair Brendan Carr chided late-night talk show host Stephen Colbert after Colbert made a profane response to President Donald Trump's glee that the comedian's show was being canceled, saying Colbert "clearly doesn't have 'it' anymore."

"In a Friday post on Truth Social, Trump wrote: "I absolutely love that Colbert got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings. I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. Has even less talent than Colbert! Greg Gutfeld is better than all of them combined, including the Moron on NBC who ruined the once great Tonight Show." In response, Colbert said during his opening monologue Monday, "Go f*** yourself."I think it's just sad," Carr said in response to a text from Oliver Darcy, a journalist for Status News, the New York Post reported Wednesday. "Colbert clearly doesn't have 'it' anymore – if he ever did. I don't know if it's from TDS [Trump Derangement Syndrome] or something else.

"He's paid millions of dollars to be funny and entertaining, and he's just not able to make it work. He's gotta feel bad about how the end is playing out."

"CBS announced Thursday that "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert" would end in May after the upcoming broadcast season, saying the decision was "purely financial" against a "challenging backdrop in late night" and not  "related in any way to the show's performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount."

"Paramount, CBS' parent company, reached a $16 million settlement with Trump over a heavily edited "60 Minutes" interview with Kamala Harris that attempted to give the former vice president a favorable impression before the 2024 election. The FCC also is weighing a long-awaited $8.4 billion merger between Skydance and Paramount." . . .

Jonathan Turley: Politicians and Pundits Call for an Investigation into Colbert’s Cancelation  "In Washington, Democratic politicians are calling for a congressional investigation, while in New York; the Writers’ Guild is asking New York Attorney General Letitia James (D) for a state probe. No, the issue is not the use of the autopen by Biden staff to carry out presidential functions or the crisis in public education. No, it is the cancellation of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” by CBS.

"The outrage over the show’s cancellation is the latest example of presumed entitlement from the left, which suggests that the government, universities, and corporations should subsidize their preferred news and entertainment. Call it the NPR syndrome."  MORE

Good News! U.S. Olympic Officials Finally Side With Women

 PJ Media

According to the Times, "Those new rules still allow trans women to compete, but only in the men’s category. The policy says that nonbinary athletes, transgender men, and intersex athletes will also be limited to competing in the men’s category."

"After years of coming up with ways to dodge the issue, the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) quietly changed its rules about eligibility for the sexes earlier this week. It will now ban "transgender women" from participating in all women's sports. That means that a man who thinks he is or pretends to be a woman can only play with the other guys, and women are safe to compete without worrying about men in their locker rooms or coming at them with unfair advantages on the court, on the field, on the track, in the pool, etc.

"The new policy is tucked away in the "USOPC Athlete Safety Policy" and doesn't mention trans women or anything of that nature specifically, but it reads:

The USOPC is committed to protecting opportunities for athletes participating in sport. The USOPC will continue to collaborate with various stakeholders with oversight responsibilities, e.g., IOC, IPC, NGBs, to ensure that women have a fair and safe competition environment consistent with Executive Order 14201 and the Ted Stevens Olympic & Amateur Sports Act, 36 U.S.C § 22501, et. seq.

"Executive Order 14201, of course, is the one entitled "Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports," which President Donald Trump signed in February. It calls for the country to "protect opportunities for women and girls to compete in safe and fair sports" by rescinding funding to education programs that "deprive women and girls of fair athletic opportunities."

" 'The committee’s new policy means that the national governing bodies of sports federations in the United States — which oversee sporting events for all ages, from youth to masters’ competitions — now must follow the USOPC.'s lead, according to several chief executives of sports within the Olympic movement," according to the New York Times

"Basically, the governing bodies of each individual sport can't make their own decisions about this topic any longer.

"For example, last week, USA Fencing changed its own policies to prevent biological men from competing in women's categories. Previously, its biological male athletes could register under whatever sex they wanted as long as they'd completed "one calendar year (12 months) of testosterone suppression treatment.' "  . . .
