We left our nation in San Francisco

Shellenberger joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss how the left’s “victim” ideology has harmed West Coast cities and what can be done to save those communities from complete ruin.

AfterMath - Home (terrellaftermath.com)

Former Soros Activist Explains How Progressives Ruined San Francisco (dailysignal.com)  . . ." One of the things, when you interview progressives still to this day, and I discovered this quite a bit in my research, they blame [Ronald] Reagan, first as governor in the 1960s and then as president, for the homeless crisis, even though progressives have controlled California for decades. Democrats have a supermajority in Congress. We spend more than any other state per capita on homelessness and mental illness, and we have the worst outcomes.
"So I wanted to write “San Fransicko” to both get to the bottom of what’s really going on and also figure out what the solutions are because, obviously, we’re dealing with a catastrophe. I mentioned drug overdose deaths rose from 17,000 to 70,000 by 2017. Last year, drug deaths were 93,000, which is almost three times as many people than die from car accidents and four times as many people as die from homicide. Clearly, we are in the midst of a massive drug crisis, and it felt like nobody was offering a particularly clear explanation of it or offering very good solutions.
"Allen: I love that curiosity and that drive to say, “OK, there’s obviously an issue here, and we actually need to find a solution.” You’re asking the hard questions. That’s something we really need more of. Now, Michael, for those who have not been to San Francisco, for those who are not too familiar maybe with the situation there, if you were to leave your house, cross the bay, and walk through the streets of San Francisco, give us a picture of what we would see.
"Shellenberger: Sure. San Francisco remains one of the most spectacularly beautiful cities in the world. Just driving across the Bay Bridge into San Francisco, its skyline is stunning; three major bridges into San Francisco, incredible skyline, beautiful, surrounded by water, humpback whales not far from the coast.
"But as soon as you drive downtown, you see tents. You see what are euphemistically called homeless encampments, but they are more accurately described as open drug scenes. That’s the expression that’s used by European researchers. I point out that the Europeans dealt with this exact same problem in the 1980s in places like Zurich, Switzerland; Amsterdam, Netherlands; Lisbon, Portugal; Frankfurt, Germany.
"What you find is just these are people that are living on the street. They’re living on the street because … almost all of them, if not really all of them, are suffering from severe drug addiction, severe drug and alcohol addiction.
"In the 1980s, what we called homelessness—I point out in the book that homelessness is a propaganda word. It was designed to mislead people about what’s really going on. It was designed by progressives to mislead people into thinking that people live on the street because they can’t afford the rent. That’s not the case. The people on the street, we know, are there because of addiction and untreated mental illness." . . .

Has The Hallmark Channel Gone Too Woke?

Has The Hallmark Channel Gone Too Woke?

"They need to go back and bring back the original awesome actors and actresses. Hallmark is not the same as it was a few years ago. I’ve lost interest in watching.

Nolte: CEO and Stars Flee Hallmark Channel for Non-Woke Network (breitbart.com)

. . ."No one wants to watch that crap.

"No.

"One.

"The Hallmark Channel had a very specific audience, a wholesome audience. The left targeted it to deliberately alienate that audience and destroy one of the few remaining family channels that was still a family channel. That’s what the left does. And those who fall for it find they have not increased their audience. Instead, they are ruined.

"Knowing this, Bill Abbott, the CEO of Crown Media Family (which owns the Hallmark Channel), jumped ship. He wanted nothing to do with producing propaganda. This is also true of a number of the stars who helped make the Hallmark Channel what it is: Candace Cameron-Bure, Danica McKellar, and Jen Lilley.

"Giant Freakin’ Robot says Abbott’s goal at his new network, Great American Media, “is to respond to the Hallmark Channel’s initiatives by providing the family entertainment his former employer became known for[.]”

"Abbott adds that Great American Media viewers can “expect lighthearted fun … heartwarming stories [and none of the] “dark situations, violence, sexual situations, things that just…create anxiety.”

"And now, the same thing that happened to Star Wars and the Boy Scouts will happen to the Hallmark Channel. What had been universally beloved will now become polarized, intolerant, stressful, and no fun.". . .

Well, I haven't seen Hallmark get to that point yet. TDing

anymore.

Randi Weingarten's Divisive Rhetoric

"There might not be anyone that's done more damage recently than Randi Weingarten to the kids living in distressed communities, especially like the ones where I grew up… It's so frustrating to hear these liberal lies, hearkening back to a day that no longer exists."  Sen. Tim Scott

American Thinker   "Teachers’ union boss Randi Weingarten has taken a troubling stance that has left many parents and supporters of school choice and parental rights initiatives feeling alienated and insulted. Weingarten's recent comparison of these advocates to segregationists is not only divisive but also a grave mischaracterization of the very parents who are striving to be more involved in their children's education.

"Weingarten's likening of the rhetoric of parental rights advocates to that of segregationists is a deeply flawed and misguided attempt to delegitimize their cause. Using race as a weapon to shame those who seek to empower parents is not only disingenuous but also a troubling trend in today's political discourse. Weingarten's choice to invoke the specter of segregation is a deliberate attempt to silence opposing viewpoints and shut down legitimate debates about the future of education.

"At its core, the issue at hand is not about race but about the fundamental rights of parents to have a voice in their children's education. Randi Weingarten, as the leader of a prominent teachers union, has made it her mission to deny parents this crucial voice. Even more concerning is her consistent effort to subvert educational standards, effectively fueling an era of low expectations for our children.

"Every year, millions of parents entrust their children's educational well-being to a system that should prioritize their input and concerns. Instead, they find themselves belittled and voiceless in the face of a union boss who claims to care about parents but consistently works to destroy local control of education. This isn't just about policy differences; it's about the very essence of democracy and the role of parents in shaping the futures of their children." . . .

Joe Biden Can’t Stop Making Racist Comments

America Insider (msn.com)   . . ." An attorney for IRS agent Gary Shapley responded, “This suit against the IRS is just another frivolous smear by Biden family attorneys trying to turn people’s attention away from Hunter Biden’s own legal problems and intimidate any current and future whistleblower.”

“The federal judge in Delaware who oversaw the aborted plea deal shot down similar claims against the whistleblowers after they exposed the secret backroom deal between Hunter Biden and the Department of Justice,” the lawyer continued.

“Neither IRS SSA Gary Shapley nor his attorneys have ever released any confidential taxpayer information except through whistleblower disclosures authorized by statute. Once Congress released that testimony, like every American citizen, he has a right to discuss that public information.” . . .

"Biden’s offensive comments came during a speech at Prince George’s Community College in Largo, Maryland.

"Rep. Burgess Owens (R-UT), who is black, said, “Another day, another racist comment from Biden. Crickets from the mainstream media. I keep saying I am almost 51 years old and Joe Biden is the most explicitly racist president in my lifetime,” said attorney Aaron Walker. “Good lord.”

National GOP spokeswoman Madison Gesiotto Gilbert said, “Nooo, he didn’t.”

"Later in the speech, Biden appeared to admit that he discriminated when hiring his cabinet and judicial nominations.

“You know, and, by the way, when I got elected, I promised that I wanted an administration that would look like America,” Biden said. “I got more women in the Cabinet than any president has ever in history. And I got more women — more women than men in the Cabinet,” he said.

"“And I put more black women on the appellate court and the Supreme Court than every other president combined in American history.”

"The mainstream media is accused of giving Biden a “free pass” by failing to scrutinize these remarks. Here’s a look at some of Biden’s other racially-charged comments: . . ."

The death of comedy on Campus

Is there a connection between the campus generation and their desire to burn cities and businesses, to threaten Supreme Court Justices and Government electors with physical harm? The same who find people lying prone in the streets from a beating and kick them solidly enough in the head as they lay there. TD

Tucker Carlson's 'Death of Comedy' Slammed by Comic Featured in Documentary (newsweek.com)

Lighten up, buttercup: Special snowflakes on campus must learn how to take a joke | The College Fix    "Humor is dying on campus – and it isn’t funny. Increasingly, jokes can’t be told, or laughed at, at least not without fearing backlash or a verbal lashing from the campus thought police.

"As the old saying goes: “Grow thicker skin.” Or better yet: “Grow a pair.”

"But instead, students, with the help of administrators, have infantilized themselves in what’s becoming the “safe space” era of college. From the padded walls of an insane asylum, we’ve reached the padded walls of a campus classroom, and now the inmates run the place.

"Thanks to a combination of identity politics, hints of moral relativism and the right to victimization, college students can no longer bare any unsavory joke, satire, or tongue-in-cheek comment. We’ve reached the dawn of humorless campuses, a tragedy.

"“I like to think that all jokes are okay as long as it’s making the joke about society rather than about the victim of society,” a student from a humor group, Bloomers, told the student newspaper at the University of Penn.

"Herein lies the problem." . . .

Today’s college students can’t seem to take a joke.

Hillary Clinton Hit With Some Inconvenient Truths After Speech on ‘War on Truth,’ Journalists in America –

  RedState

"As I've said before, Hillary Clinton is one of the least self-aware people on this planet, and she proved it once again in remarks she made Tuesday in a speech given on the second day of the Clinton Global Initiative Meeting in New York City.

"Clinton portrayed herself as a staunch defender of journalists and the First Amendment and talked about how she saw the dangers the press sometimes faced firsthand during her time as Secretary of State under then-President Barack Obama.

"She could not of course resist ranting about how journalists here in America faced attacks on a daily basis from people who she said wanted to create "alternative facts to support false narratives."

" 'We have a very real war on truth, facts, and reason," she also declared, while calling on people to do their "duty" in defending "free and honest journalism, to help keep all of us informed, to hold institutions to account."

"She went on to say, "You can't have a democracy if you don't have people reporting on what leaders are doing."

"Watch a short clip below (or the full speech here starting at around the 1:04 hour mark):" . . .

"The first thing I thought when I watched that clip was that this woman had absolutely no shame considering everything she's done to undermine the institution of journalism over her decades as a power player in national politics, not just as First Lady in the 1990s but also as Senator in the early 2000s, as Sec. of State, and most notoriously of course during her two failed runs for president in 2008 and 2016.

"I wasn't the only one with that thought:

Following the Biden clan

Hunter Biden Sues IRS For 'Embarrassing' Him, And We Can't Stop Laughing - America Insider

Hunter Biden – Hollywood Hills, $2.5 Million   "Amidst the rolling hills of the Hollywood Hills, Hunter Biden’s home is a hidden gem. The midcentury modern abode is nestled away from the hustle and bustle of the city, offering its residents a taste of old Hollywood glamor.

"Four California homes in four years – Hunter Biden is on the move again.

"The beleaguered First Son and his wife Melissa Cohen have moved into a new $15,800-per-month Malibu pad, DailyMail.com can reveal.

"And when Hunter moves his Secret Service detail has to pick up stakes as well. They have landed a home across the street at $16,000 per month – funded by none other than the US taxpayer." . . .

. . ."Hunter’s first home in Southern California was a $12,000-per-month rented house in the Hollywood Hills, where he set up his art studio for his new career in 2019. The three-bedroom, three-bathroom mid-century property had a pool and a gated drive.

"He then moved to a $4.2million canal-side Venice Beach house in 2021. He and Melissa allegedly left the home in a state of 'disarray and disrepair' and owing approximately $80,000 in outstanding rent, a source told DailyMail.com.>" ''Hunter and Melissa were horrible tenants. Not only did they stiff the owner for months of rent, they left the house in terrible condition,' the source said.

"At the time, the imposing three-story property was owned by Sweetgreen CEO and co-founder Jonathan Neman.

"The source added, 'They were totally disrespectful of Jonathan and [his wife] Leora's property.

" 'Melissa was rude and entitled. They destroyed the stereo equipment in the home and when someone came to fix it, they were uncooperative. They also left the place dirty.'

"The former owner allegedly could only shift the property after cleaning up the Bidens' mess and was left out of pocket when Hunter shorted him more than three months' rent, the insider claimed.

"Hunter, Melissa and  Beau then moved on to Malibu later that year. "  . . .

Bidenomics to the rescue

AfterMath - Home (terrellaftermath.com)
Biden is making it harder for America to get back to work (nypost.com)    "Economics is all about incentives. And if you incentivize people not to work, they will drop out of the labor force, and unemployment will rise.
"Friday’s employment report is a stark dramatization of how the Biden Administration — with its grandiose designs to turn the US economy into a European-style welfare state — is providing all the wrong incentives. There’s a workforce on the verge of significant growth, if only the government would get out of its way.

"Despite vast swaths of the economy reopening from the COVID shutdowns, and small businesses complaining they can’t find help, unemployment perversely rose to 6.1 percent in April. Hiring oddly slowed — only 266,000 jobs added to the economy, which is about 750,000 less than what was expected. The reasons for all these mixed signals are varied, but the primary source of the problem is extended unemployment, with hundreds of extra dollars tacked on to regular benefits. Wittingly or not, the administration is begging Americans to live on the dole instead of going back to work.

"The president, of course, doesn’t see the logic that paying people to stay home means more people will do just that. But then again, he also doesn’t see the logic that being fully vaccinated and wearing a mask outdoors as he often does makes people think twice about taking the COVID vaccine. Responding to the weak employment report, Biden said the economy is on “the right track . . . My laser focus is on growing the nation’s economy and creating jobs.” Translation: He and his cronies think they now have a decent talking point to ram through a Congress with slim Democratic majorities another $4 trillion in spending on top of the $1.9 trillion he just finished putting into the economy. " . . .

Guy currently destroying nation says Trump wants to destroy nation – HotAir    "I don’t know what they’re putting in Joe Biden’s Wheaties this week, but he seemed to have a bit more pep in his step than usual during a trip to Manhattan last night. He even managed to make it through some (obviously prepared) comments on stage without too much trouble. The event was a fundraiser for him, of course, with tickets at the theater ranging from $250 to $7,500, and plenty of Broadway stars turned out to support him. So what was Uncle Joe’s pitch to get people to support his flailing reelection bid? Since he has virtually nothing to point to in his own record, he fell back on his favorite golden oldie. He told the audience that Donald Trump is still lurking out there and he is “determined to destroy the nation.” That’s rather rich, coming from the guy who is currently in the process of doing just that. (Associated Press)" . . .

. . ."But what is that “democracy” that Joe Biden keeps promising to “fight for” and what does it look like? Does he mean the democracy where a leader’s political opponents are pursued by the so-called Justice Department and even threatened with prison time? Is it the democracy where family members of the most powerful in the preferred political class can thwart our system of justice and receive favorable treatment where others would find their doors being kicked in by armed FBI agents while their children were eating breakfast? Does he mean that democracy?"

With Hollywood on strike, Biden leans on Broadway stars in his hunt for 2024 campaign cash (wmur.com)   . . ."Others set to perform at Monday's Broadway fundraiser include Annaleigh Ashford, Alex Edelman, Josh Gad, Christopher Jackson, LaChanze, Ruthie Ann Miles, Leslie Odom Jr., Andrew Rannells, Aaron Tveit and Betsy Wolfe.

"Thomas Kail will direct, with music supervision by Alex Lacamoire. Additional contributors for the event include Andy Blankenbuehler, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, and Amanda Green.". . .

ANDY NGO REPORTS: Portland business owner who promoted Antifa riots closes taproom, cites business decline in the city

  The Post Millennial | thepostmillennial.com

A woke Portland cider taproom is shutting down, citing business decline since 2020. Its owner, Nat West, advocated for business vandalism during the 2020 BLM-Antifa riots.

"A leftist Portland, Ore. business owner who advocated for the city's destruction during the Antifa and Black Lives Matter riots of 2020 and 2021 announced he is closing his taproom after suffering significant financial losses since that time.

"Nat West, the owner of Reverend Nat's Hard Cider on Southeast 35th and Division Street, who identifies as he/him on social media, is permanently shuttering the doors to his taproom. The taproom's beverages are a former staple in the progressive city now struggling with surging crime, homicides and business closures following the 2020–21 riots.

"The shuttering of West's taproom is ironic given his strong advocacy and promotion of property destruction and vandalism in Portland.

" 'Please smash all my windows if it will be a step toward change," West said in an Twitter (now X) post in April 2021, nearly a year after the deadly riots started in Portland. For more than 120 days straight in Portland, far-left extremists carried out acts of insurrection against the local and federal governments through firebombings, explosive attacks, looting, arson, gun violence and rampant property destruction.

"In response to an individual criticizing rioters for smashing up the Oregon Historical Society in October 2020 at an Antifa direct action, West suggested the museum deserved it.

"'Just because you are doing a better job now than you've done in the past doesn't exclude you from a little bit of reckoning. Doesn't demand it either. But windows are windows," West wrote.". . .

Trans over all

"The Democrats are learning on a daily basis that there is more to politics than January 6 and hating Trump.  They are also learning that some voters think their party has been hijacked by some pretty weird people who think boys can be girls and girls can be boys.

Enter a community in Michigan.  This is the story:" . . .

. . ."Betrayal?  Really?  Maybe the LGBT community never really understood the value system that these immigrants have.  Over the years, I've spoken to many Muslims in the U.S., and they are very conservative on family issues." . . .

Muslims in America be damned: Biden proposes strengthening Title IX protections for transgender students | CNN Politics    The laws targeting trans students focus on several different areas of life. In Oklahoma, for example, Republican Gov. Kevin Stitt last month signed into law a bill that requires students at public schools and public charter schools to use restrooms and locker rooms that match the sex listed on their birth certificates. Earlier this month, Louisiana banned transgender women and girls from competing on sports teams consistent with their gender at all public and some private elementary and secondary schools and colleges. A number of these so-called sports bans have already been challenged in federal court, with judges temporarily pausing West Virginia’s and Idaho’s enforcement of their bans in the last two years.

Several civil rights groups on Thursday praised the proposals from the Biden administration, saying the new rules will help protect LGBTQ youth from discrimination.

“This is a much-needed step in the right direction,” said Paul D. Castillo, an attorney with Lambda Legal, an LGBTQ legal advocacy group, in a statement." . . .

And just like that, Biden was too old -

Don Surber (substack.com)  " Why are they suddenly saying Biden is too old to run for a second term?

"The mugshot didn’t work.

"There. That is the column. It is simple as that. Panic set in and our overlords will sacrifice Biden by throwing him under the Bus of Baal. They must feed the monster to keep President Trump from winning a third consecutive presidential election.

"This week, the media in unison declared Joe Biden is too old to be president. Odd that they discovered this now because he has been a doddering old fool since suffering his aneurisms (plural) 35 years ago.

"The Daily Mail reported, “New York Times and Washington Post BOTH run op-eds branding Biden, 80, too old for office with NYT raising specter of him dying before retiring like Ruth Bader Ginsburg.”

"8 of the 45 previous presidencies ended in death — four died naturally (don’t gorge yourself on cherries, kids) — and the nation survived.

"NYT had Ross Douthat do the deed. He was blatant in wanting Biden out because defeating Trump depends on that.

"Douthat wrote, “Obviously, this is a column about President Biden’s age. But not only about Biden, because America has been running a lot of Buckner experiments of late. Consider the dreadful-for-liberals denouement of Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s career, where nobody could tell a lifetime-tenured Supreme Court justice who had survived cancer that it was time to step aside and Democrats were left to talk hopefully about her workout regimen as she tried to outlast Donald Trump. And she almost did — but in the end, her legacy was reshaped and even unmade by a decision to stay too long on the political field.”

"The fear of Biden losing and Trump replacing him like he did Ginsburg is palpable and a rare instance where Washington elitists are right." . . .
