"One of the disturbing ransom notes received by Nancy Guthrie's family included a chilling apology for accidentally killing her, according to a new report.

A bizarre blackmail letter sent February 6 offered to return the 84-year-old's body in return for money, a source familiar with the investigation told Air Mail

The memo followed an earlier note to TMZ from the same sender, which correctly described what Guthrie was wearing on the night she was abducted, and included information about a damaged floodlight in her backyard.

Guthrie, who is the mother of NBC News Today anchor Savannah Guthrie, was kidnapped from her home in Tucson, Arizona, on the night of February 1.

Initial messages from the sender said Guthrie was 'safe but scared', and agreed to return her if the family paid $4 million in Bitcoin by 5pm on February 5.

They added that if the ransom was not paid by February 9, this would increase to $6 million, 'or else', according to Air Mail, a digital weekly newsletter.

The 'apology' note, which came from the same IP address as these initial, seemingly credible emails, arrived at the Guthrie family's home on February 6.

It said that Guthrie had been accidentally killed, and offered to deliver her body back to the family for a sum of $4 million.

Iran stars leave emotional handwritten note in World Cup locker room

 The Mirror US

"Iran's World Cup squad left behind an emotional handwritten note in the locker room after completing its two-match stay in Los Angeles, which included a poignant reference to a school bombing during the country's recent conflict with the United States.

"The gesture came after Iran secured a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Belgium on Sunday, a result that kept its hopes of advancing into the knockout stages alive heading into a crucial Group G clash with Egypt in Seattle. Before departing the city, the players penned a message thanking Los Angeles and its residents for their support throughout their stay, expressing gratitude to the fans who cheered them on.

"From the ancient Persia of thousands of years ago to the civilized Iran of today, the spirit of Iran remains alive and steadfast," the note said. "We came to Los Angeles with Pride, competed with honor and leave with dignity. Thank you, Los Angeles, for your hospitality. And thank you to every Iranian who gave their heart, voice, and soul for Iran throughout these 180 minutes. May peace, respect, and friendship prevail among all nations." It comes after a sickening discovery was made outside the Iran team's training base in Mexico.

"The Iran team's LA note also included the hashtags "#168" and "#Minab," an apparent reference to the reported death toll from a school bombing in the Iranian city of Minab during the conflict between Iran and the United States earlier this year. While casualty figures have varied across reports, with some estimates placing the death toll at 156, U.S. responsibility for the strike has not been disputed."  . . .

The catastrophic mistake Nancy Guthrie investigation suffered in its early days: report

 Page Six

"When Savannah gave her first interview . . . she spoke to the veracity of the ransom notes receivedI believe the two notes that we received that we responded to, I tend to believe those are real,” she said".

Officials searching for Nancy Guthrie made a major mistake in the early days of the investigation, according to a new report.
"The Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI allegedly blew a chance to find the 84-year-old’s kidnappers in early February, sources told Air Mail.
"The outlet claimed Saturday that on Feb. 1, hours after Savannah Guthrie’s mom was reported missing from her Arizona home, a potentially credible ransom note was sent — as was reported by media outlets at the time.
"The alleged kidnappers, who provided accurate details about Nancy’s outfit at the time of her disappearance, and the damaged floodlight in her Tucson backyard, requested $4 million in Bitcoin by Feb. 5.
"The note, which reportedly dubbed Nancy “safe but scared,” ended with the words, “Or else.”
"Instead of paying the full sum and potentially tracking down the kidnapper when the Bitcoin was turned into cash — and giving the money back to the Guthrie family — officials used a “tickling the wire” tactic.
"Investigators sent $152 to the Bitcoin address, hoping this amount would be withdrawn and present them with new leads.
"This move, however, did not “tempt” the alleged kidnapper, who was captured in chilling security camera footage from Nancy’s home, and the Bitcoin sat untouched.
"On Feb. 6, an email from the same I.P. address arrived and, according to sources close to the case, read as “sputtering,” “labored” and “less confident” than the last.
"The individual shared an “apology” for Nancy’s inadvertent death, as well as a request that a ransom payment be made for the return of her body." . . .More...

"Not that there's anything wrong with it!"

"When fans think of Disney movies and the Disney television channel, they may think of a tale as old as time in which a princess marries a prince, and then they live happily ever after. It's happened over and over, a man and woman falling in love, but Disney has started to change that, particularly the purely heterosexual aspect.

"The LGBTQ+ community has become more represented in media in recent years and Disney is just one of many companies hopping aboard that train as well. Unfortunately, not every aspect of the LGBTQ+ community has been represented due to a lack of characters within the Disney canon, and some representation has fallen flat. Hopefully, in the future, there will be more, and better, representation from Disney.

"Updated on June 7th, 2022 by Danielle Bruncati: In the wake of Florida's extremely controversial "Don't Say Gay" bill and the strong criticism that came from within The Walt Disney Company for not speaking up, it seems like Disney is finally understanding out important LGBTQ+ representation is for its fans and its cast members.

"While the company has begun to make small steps in recent years on both the big and small screens, the LGBTQ+ community and its allies are no longer ready to accept the ambiguous ways Disney has introduced LGBTQ+ characters into their stories. Instead, viewers want to see characters clearly stating their sexuality and living their authentic selves which thankfully looks like it is actually happening." . . .

Disney producer cops to 'adding queerness' to animated shows

“I was just, wherever I could, adding queerness,” Raveneau added. “No one would stop me, and no one was trying to stop me.” The leak of Raveneau’s comments came as Karey Burke, president of Disney’s General Entertainment Content, vowed to drastically increase inclusivity in its productions, promising that at least 50 percent of its characters will be LGBTQ or racial minorities by the end of the year. Burke made the pledge in a company-wide Zoom call Monday that was later posted to Twitter.

Your Kid May Graduate Into an Economy That No Longer Needs Entry-Level Workers

Steve Williams – RedState

"We should not accept a future where technology gets smarter, shareholders get richer, government gets bigger, and human beings become economically and spiritually disposable."

"Artificial intelligence is not just another technology issue; it is the next great middle-class issue.

"It has moved into work, school, medicine, finance, media, transportation, housing, hiring, policing, campaigns, and family life. It is moving faster than Washington, faster than Sacramento, faster than school districts, faster than unions, faster than most businesses, and faster than parents can explain to their children.

"For decades, Americans were told to follow a basic path: study hard, get into a decent school, get a good job, learn the trade, build a career, buy a home, start a family, contribute to your community. That was the ladder. It was not perfect, and it was never equally available to everyone, but people understood it.

"AI now threatens the bottom rungs of that ladder.

"The immediate danger is not that every job disappears overnight. The more subtle danger is that entry-level career work gets hollowed out first. Junior analysts, junior engineers, paralegals, associates, coders, designers, consultants, finance staff, writers, researchers, schedulers, and campaign staffers all do basic work that more advanced workers may dismiss as routine. But that routine work has always served a deeper purpose.

"It is how young people learn judgment." . . .More...

'We 100% Got People Killed': Biden-Era DEA Allowed 'Staggering Amounts' of Fentanyl Into US

"Everyone responsible for punishing Howell should be held accountable for the deaths that followed. That includes Garland and whoever really ran the White House during the Biden Regency."

"Oh, the Associated Press doesn't say that the Joe Biden Regency allowed fentanyl rings to flood the US with their deadly product. In fact, the AP never mentions Biden or who ran the DEA and Department of Justice at the time. The timing in the first paragraph speaks volumes, however:

Even as it battled the deadliest drug epidemic in American history, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration permitted hundreds of thousands of fentanyl pills to hit the streets of New Mexico between 2023 and 2025, according to three current and former DEA agents and government records reviewed by The Associated Press.

DEA agents repeatedly monitored shipments of fentanyl pills — but did not seize them — as federal prosecutors sought to bring bigger criminal cases against traffickers of a synthetic opioid that the White House last year designated a “ weapon of mass destruction.”

"Hmmm. Say, who was president between 2023 and 2025? Which party controlled the White House and these agencies, setting policy in regard to both drug interdiction and border security? Three guesses, and one hint: the answer does not rhyme with thump or sound like "Gee, Opie!"

"In fact, as people may recall, Donald Trump made fentanyl trafficking a key part of his presidential campaign. Part of that related to getting tough with China, where the precursors are manufactured, but the bigger point Trump made related to border security. He accused Biden and Kamala Harris of allowing fentanyl to flood across the border without any effective policies to stop it, which Biden and later Harris denied.

"Now DEA agents are telling reporters that this was not just neglect, but a deliberate approach to poison America in hopes of making headline cases against drug traffickers. However, the DEA did not keep track of the shipments, which meant a lot of that fentanyl hit the streets in US cities during the Biden Regency. "We 100% got people killed," one DEA agent told the AP, while others likened it to another disaster during the Barack Obama administration:" . . .   More...

Media Won't Investigate Fraud, They Have Algae To Track

"The Department of the Interior has said that the issue is being resolved quickly with treatments, which may offer a partial explanation of the media blitz: These left-wing outlets want to squeeze as much anti-Trump fodder out of the algae bloom before it is gone."

The Federalist   "Corporate media are pulling out all the stops, sending their most seasoned left-wing reporters to cover this week’s national scandal: algae blooms in the newly renovated Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. Their dedication to this minor story shows how these media outlets have the capacity to focus on important things like crime, fraud, homelessness, and drug use plaguing America’s cities, but choose not to in order to score political points in favor of their Democrat friends.

"Americans have been bombarded with algae coverage by the likes of CNN, ABC, CBS, and the rest of the usual suspects, who are offering wall-to-wall coverage of algae growing in the reflecting pool to undermine President Donald Trump’s push to beautify the nation’s capital after decades of disrepair and neglect. They are essentially arguing that the $14 million renovations were not worth it, and that somehow its previous state of total disrepair is better than the attempt to fix one of America’s most recognizable national monuments.

"As the Department of the Interior, which oversees the pool’s maintenance, pointed out, algae “has plagued every Lincoln Reflecting Pool reopening — most infamously Obama’s reopening — since 1922.”

"Notwithstanding the fact that the reflecting pool has had algae problems essentially since it was built, the time and money put into news coverage of the algae issue stand in stark contrast to the lack of time and resources these deep-pocketed outlets put into reporting on the genuine national crises plaguing the country.

"Take, for example, the near-media blackout on coverage of one of the nation’s largest sewage spills in history in January, when between 200 and 300 million gallons of untreated sewage spilled into the Potomac River — a body of water that is just hundreds of feet away from the Lincoln Memorial. The result was 12,000 times the safe amount of E. Coli in the water.

"For CNN’s part, it offered an Associated Press wire (meaning the outlet did not even assign a reporter to cover the issue at first), followed by a 1:18-minute segment on Jake Tapper’s program, an article stating that “politicians snipe” about who is responsible for the spill, and a smattering of social media updates." . . .More...

World Cup Fans in the U.S. Are Sightseeing at … Buc-ee’s and Bass Pro Shops?

 The New York Times

On Shaun Alexander’s recent trip to the United States, he checked off some of the classic American pastimes from his bucket list: Catch a baseball game at Fenway Park in Boston, see live music in New York, visit the Alamo and try barbecue in Texas.

But he also had an unusual goal: Alexander wanted to visit Bass Pro Shops in every state he passed through.

“It’s just unbelievable,” said Alexander, 38, from Edinburgh. “It’s like a theme park and a museum all wrapped into, you know, a big retail store.” . . . More...
