Christian Vezilj - American Thinker
"What we saw in Milan wasn’t appreciation for gratitude and opportunity. It was the upside-down thinking of a nation that’s too comfortable."
. . . "But opportunity only exists because the country protects it, the law means something, institutions function, and someone stands between the innocent and those who would harm them. That is where the conversation about ICE becomes so distorted.
"Crossing into the United States illegally is not a matter of opinion or emotion. It is a legal violation defined by Congress. And Congress—not ICE—created the consequences. ICE does not invent its mission. It enforces the laws that elected representatives enacted. When ICE removes violent offenders, dismantles trafficking networks, intercepts drugs, or protects children from exploitation, it is not acting outside the American character. It is fulfilling it.
"A sovereign nation has both the right and the responsibility to enforce its laws. That is not cruelty; it’s civilization.
"Yet many Americans—especially those raised in comfort—have become so insulated from danger that they no longer recognize protection when they see it. They live in a world so safe, so stable, so prosperous that they assume these conditions are normal. They are not. They are the exception in human history. Most of the world would trade places with them instantly.
"And still, instead of gratitude, we see outrage, lack of pride, and shame. Instead of perspective, we see fantasy.
"This is the upside-down thinking of a comfortable nation: . . ."
