Early commentary on the GOP debates

"Fox Business News was perhaps a mite too self-congratulatory about how well it conducted tonight’s debate–but the contrast to CNBC’s embarrassing performance was sufficiently stark that I can forgive it. "

"Ben Carson packed quite a bit into slightly more than thirty seconds of his closing statement, and each element resonated. "

The Winners, Losers, Running in Place  . . . "Biggest loser on merits: Kasich. He’s done. He came across angry, condescending and unprincipled. By the end of the debate he came across as the drunk, obnoxious, uncle everyone wishes hadn’t accepted the invitation to Thanksgiving dinner.
"Biggest loser politically: Jeb Bush" . . .

Shocked at Yale and Mizzuo? Look what pro-Israel students have suffered for years.

Shocked at Yale and Mizzou? Pro-Israel students have lived with intimidation for years
. . . "The attention on physical and other intimidation to silence opposing viewpoints is welcome, but don’t think this is something new on campuses, even if liberals are just paying attention because liberals now are targeted.
"For Israelis and pro-Israel students, physical disruptions of events by groups such as Students for Justice in Palestine,
have become common.

"We reported just the other day how Protesters shouted down an Israeli Professor at U. Minnesota law school. Law Professor Dale Carpenter gave this first-hand account:

The lecture, which I attended, was delayed half an hour as one by one the protesters stood up to shout denunciations of Israel and were escorted from the hall by university police. One young woman came screaming back into the lecture after having been ejected. Outside the hall, the protesters chanted so loudly that it was difficult to hear Halbertal, much less to concentrate on what he was saying, until 45 minutes after the lecture was to have begun….
"Just a couple of weeks earlier, an Israeli diplomat — who happens to be the first Israeli diplomat who is Bedouin — had his event disrupted at the University of Windsor. "

"A “Taste of Israel” event at Tufts University was disrupted in late October.

"Cornell students were physically threatened by SJP and Ithaca activists for silently holding pro-Israel signs (language warning):

Those campus protests at Mizzou discussed

There appears to be a theme at American Thinker today, and none of it humorous

White Racism at Mizzou and Berkeley: Racial Hoaxes of the Week
. . . "The racism on campus may have been a hoax. But like Columbia, violent crime in Berkeley is not:  and yes, it is a black thing there too. Often directed at their Asian students with their sweet, sweet phones and laptops.
Just a few months ago, while protesting police brutality against a New York sidewalk illegal cigarette merchant, a white man was attacked by a black mob. They fractured his skull with a hammer -- despite the fact that he was on their side.

Mizzou media professor tries to ban press from covering protests
. . . "As chilling as all this is, it's probably going to get worse. The protesters have tasted power and have developed quite an appetite. They are now calling for the resignation of the Chancellor of all Missouri state universities. Hopefully R. Bowen Loftin is made of sterner stuff than former president Wolfe.

Mizzou and the Hillary campaign
" . . .Keep in mind that both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have met with leaders of the Black Lives Matter movement.  Is it a coincidence that a few incidents in which nothing much really happened have now exploded into a national airing of racial grievances and apparent confessions of guilt via resignations?

"Remember how Occupy Wall Street, an AstroTurf movement supported by tons of MSM coverage, took place to frame the Romney campaign as out of touch and uncaring.  This is just the same tactic, translated to new circumstances."

Vocal fry: why some women talk the way they do

The Valley Girl Speech Pattern Meets The 21st Century
"If you’ve ever watched reality tv, then you are probably familiar with the concept of vocal fry. It’s a popular method of speaking where words are drawn out with a low, grungy twinge. Many find the sound of vocal fry annoying, but are there more serious consequences? Faith Sallie investigated and found that the use of vocal fry is a lot more prevalent than previously thought, especially among college-aged girls. It was also found to be dangerous to the long-term health of your vocal chords. Some medical experts even classify it as a disorder. So next time you want to emulate a Kardashian in your everyday life, stop and think before you talk."

Here's the real reason Obama killed the Keystone XL pipeline

Michael Ramirez Cartoon

IBD Editorials
. . . Obama "insists now is the time to "protect the one planet we've got while we still can." Though his rhetoric will resonate with those who want to hear that sort of bunkum, the rest of us recognize its vast emptiness.

"Obama's decision Friday was based on nothing more than political opportunity. The announcement was timed to coincide with the United Nations climate talks, which begin in Paris at the end of the month, and shaped to make him look like a strong leader.

"As usual, it was all about Obama, who craves the international approval and domestic back-pats he will get for being such a forward thinker.

"But here's what we have learned through almost seven years of his presidency — when it's all about Obama, the rest of us generally get a boot to the head. In the instance of his Keystone decision, we're talking lost jobs and energy prices that will be higher than they should be." . . .

And it's not just gasoline prices. Obama made it a goal to push the cost of burning coal in power plants so high that they will go bankrupt.
America is now a global leader, all right — in a costly fight against an imaginary enemy.

US Intelligence; an agency in Crisis

"IF YOU DELIBERATELY SET OUT TO DESTROY THE U.S. INTELLIGENCE COMMUNITY, COULD YOU DO MORE DAMAGE THAN HAS BEEN DONE UNDER OBAMA? NSA Morale Has Never Been Lower." Instapundit

Observer News
Fort Meade, UNITED STATES: (FILES): This 25 January 2006 file photo shows the National Security Agency (NSA) in the Washington suburb of Fort Meade, Maryland, where US President George W. Bush delivered a speech behind closed doors and met with employees in advance of Senate hearings on the much-criticized domestic surveillance. The US National Security Agency has assembled the world's largest database of telephone records tracking the phone calls of tens of millions of AT and T, Verizon and BellSouth customers, sources familiar with the program told USA Today. In an article published 11 May 2006, the daily said the NSA launched the secret program in 2001, shortly after the 11 September 2001 attacks, to analyze calling patterns in a bid to detect terrorist activity. "When Edward Snowden went public nearly two-and-a-half years ago with his explosive revelations about the National Security Agency, his former employer, the mask of secrecy that NSA had worn since its birth in 1952 fell for good. For NSA, America’s biggest and most important intelligence agency, this was a deeply unwelcome and uncomfortable change. For decades, the agency had gone about its top secret business with little public scrutiny or fanfare.

This Washington Post reader says the Christmas story is about WHAT?

Washington Post Story Claims Christmas Is About Honoring Poverty Stricken Family Fleeing Tyranny With A Newborn…

175539

Buried deep inside the Washington Post’s “The Phony War On Christmas Is Back” post lies this delightful nugget of how this WAPO reader sees the story of Christmas. Would it shock you it’s from a social justice point of view?

"No mention of God or Christ being the promised savior.  Nope.  Christmas, it’s all about fleeing poverty like self taking urchins from Azerbaijan or Syria.

This? This is what Christmas is all about?
I’m willing to concede that there is a war on Christmas. The real Christmas.
If Christmas is about honoring the birth of an impoverished child to a homeless couple who must eventually flee a tyrant to keep their baby safe, then, yes, there is a war on Christmas.
If Christmas is about peace, joy, generosity, thankfulness and goodwill among people, then yes, there is a war on Christmas.
But this Starbucks frenzy is a faux war on a faux Christmas.

Is the FBI closing in on Hillary?

Bear in mind that it is Obama's FBI.

American Thinker
"In an administration known for its disdain for accountability and appalling disregard for justice, FBI Director James Comey sets himself apart as a straight shooter and strong adherent of the equal application of the law. To those who know and/or have worked with him, Comeys character is unimpeachable, his integrity unique, and his pursuit of justice determined, focused, and incorruptible in a capital where such traits are routinely eschewed.

"According to Dr. Monica Crowley, quoted below, Comey is closely overseeing his crack cyber-forensic team, which has masterfully managed to do what many claimed couldnt be done: they accessed the files on Hillary Clintons wiped email server. If they find ample evidence to indict her, as Crowley intimates below, and the Justice Department decides not to pursue charges, many political pundits foresee Comey resigning, or looking the other way when whatever illegal activity they found starts to leak." . .

When "civility" means political correctness

"William F. Buckley once observed, “Liberals claim to want to give a hearing to other views, but then are shocked and offended to discover that there are other views.”'

Selwyn Duke
. . . "Now, I’m not sure Prof. Santana knows what a “marginalized” group is, but I invite him to visit some left-wing sites and peruse what’s posted about Christians, and traditionalists in general. And how about these comments, from under a viral 2012 YouTube video featuring a cute 6-year-old boy providing 10 reasons not to vote for Barack Obama:
  • can someone kill that child… to teach his parents a lesson!!!!
  • Where is Jerry Sandusky when you really need him? This kid needs a shower!
  • If I could id kill this kid. He’s somewhat racist and brings up obama stereotypes. Dumb redneck.
  • This child and his parents need to be euthanized.
And here’s one I’ve had to clean up (as much as leftists’ messes can be):
“GO F*** YOUR MOTHER YOU LITTLE ****-SUCKING HOMOPHOBIC GUN LOVING ****-SUCKER IF YOU WERE MY F****** KID I WOULD BE GIVING THE BIGGEST S**T KICKING OF A LIFETIME YOU LITTLE GOOD GOD FEARING GOOD FOR F****** NOTHING F****** ****-SUCKER!!!

More on the author of that Carson hit piece in Politico. Other Carson stories

Author of Ben Carson Hit Piece: ‘I Was In Guantánamo for 12 Hours’

Kyle Cheney and Ben Carson

. . . "Cheney complained about his detention with dozens of others in Pier 57, “Guantanamo on the Hudson.” He later agreed to a deal, along with other defendants, in which charges were dismissed “if we stay out of trouble for half a year.” Still resentful weeks later, Cheney claimed that America “can never claim to be what it once was: A land that cherished freedom of expression, distinguished between peaceful protesters and malicious terrorists…”.

"At Politico, Cheney has covered Obamacare, but his most recent efforts have included wide-ranging political coverage, including premature cheerleading for Donald Trump’s decline. Cheney’s original article claimed Carson admitted misleading the public about applying and being accepted to West Point, but in fact Carson never made those claims, and never admitted wrongdoing. Politico was forced to revise the initial claims in Cheney’s story." . . .

Ben Carson: Where Was the Media’s Interest in Obama’s Relation to the Rev. Wright, Frank Davis, Bill Ayers . . . ?
"It’s been less than two weeks since CNBC’s train wreck of a debate exposed just how much of a double standard the mainstream media can have against GOP presidential candidates."...
. . . "But as former CBS News reporter Bernie Goldberg noted, the follow-up coverage on the Wright story was scant and notably apologetic. The story should have prompted full explorations of the Obama-Wright connections. Instead, there was media malpractice.

"The media malpractice extended to many other areas of Obama’s life." . . .

Black man escapes plantation -- media hood up and ride.  . . . "Attacks on conservative Blacks and women in order to hang on to the Democrats’ urban base voters will continue and become ever more vicious. Bear this in mind when evaluating them."

Carson Unbound   . . . "Carson threw it back in their faces in textbook fashion. This video should be closely studied by all GOP candidates along with such figures as McCain and Ryan. But it won’t be."

Conservatives Need to Rally Around Ben Carson  . . . "Politico is known to be the personal propaganda website of Democrats and the Republican Party’s establishment, both of whom hate Carson (and other outsiders and/or conservatives like Donald Trump and Ted Cruz)." . . .

What the British did at Taranto in WW2 is a lesson for the US today

Seventy-Five Years after Taranto  "On November 11, 1940, Britain began its long counterattack against the four great powers that dominated Eurasia – Nazi Germany, Soviet Russia, Imperial Japan, and Fascist Italy – with a blow so unexpected and so devastating that military historians tend to assume that the results of that strike were inevitable.

"
Until that day, the British and French were reacting to the enemy. " .  . .

. . . Our generals and admirals doubtless have many ideas after hitting the bad guys in ways that unnerve them.  These "military commanders also know how to win big victories with the least amount of blood from our soldiers.  We need a president who will support them and empower them.

"Most of all, however, we need a political leader who grasps and articulates to our people and to our allies and enemies around the world that wars – hot, warm, or cold – are fought by good nations to win and for nothing less than victory.  And victory means defeating, utterly and absolutely, those who wish us harm."
Full article here.

Battle of Taranto   The Japanese watched this battle with great interest and out of it came the attack on Pearl Harbor.
