Turner Classic Movies Surrenders to the Woke Vampires

Conservative Angle   "TCM makes a Turner Classic Mistake by offering up their supposedly “racist” and “sexist” films as sacrifices."

"About 15 years ago, my younger brother, George, looked over my DVD collection of classic movies, including Gone with the WindThe Searchers, and Animal House, and said, “You know, pretty soon you won’t need any of these. You’ll be able to download every one of them off the internet.” George was proved right technologically, but what he couldn’t predict was that cancel culture would target those films. No one could in 2006. Now I, like many other naïve movie lovers, regret having discarded my hard copies of the titles and am racing to replace them before they get erased.

"I recalled that moment last Thursday when watching the premiere of Turner Classic Movies’ (TCM) ill-advised March series Reframed: Classic Films in the Rearview Mirror featuring Gone with the Wind (1939), Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954), and Rope (1948). With the series, TCM hopes to continue its only raison d’être — presenting screen masterworks — yet protect itself from modern woke vampires bloated with fresh blood — Dr. Seuss’s and Mr. Potato Head’s. Other classics to be deconstructed for anti-wokeness include Woman of the Year (1942), Gunga Din (1939), and The Searchers (1956). TCM declares its intent in a ghastly website statement:

Many of the beloved classics that we enjoy on TCM have stood the test of time in several ways, nevertheless when viewed by contemporary standards, certain aspects of these films can be troubling and problematic. This month, we are looking at a collection of such movies and we’ll explore their history, consider their cultural context and discuss how these movies can be reframed so that future generations will keep their legacy alive.

....... "That the announcement is typical progressive drivel becomes obvious in the first sentence. Because “the beloved classics” clearly “have stood the test of time,” the phrase “in several ways” signifies nothing. Neither does “when viewed by contemporary standards,” nor the utterly insipid “certain aspects of these films can be troubling.” Hey, welcome to art, snowflakes. The sentence ends with the ultimate vague yet loaded word, “problematic.” . . .

Classic scenes from the movie were part of every corner in American culture:

'Hold the White Guilt Trip': In Moment of Clarity, Bill Maher Tees off on BLM Virtue Signaling

RedState

. . . In Friday’s episode of “Real Time,” the left-wing comedian went after various left-wing causes and the requisite “sanctimonious lecturing” from his pals on the left. “It’s time to raise awareness about a very serious problem,” he said: “Raising awareness.”

Maher is sick of constantly being made "aware" of some plague or other through ribbons, bumper stickers, flags, hashtags.

 He then ticked through several examples of nonsense he’s had more than enough of. Finally he gets down to Black Lives Matter:

 "Maher eventually got to Black Lives Matter and the constant white guilt trip” on the left, which leads lefties to virtue-signal the crap out themselves nonstop, he said. Or as I like like to call it, prostrating themselves before the altar of Black Lives Matter and pretend “systemic-racism.” There has been no better example on the planet over the last year than the slobbery pandering of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. Anyway, Maher correctly observed:

“Crew members on the major airlines wear Black Lives Matter pins during the flight. You know, you can support a movement without constantly being reminded of it. Can I just get a rum and Coke, and hold the white guilt trip until we land?”

.  . . “ 'That ribbon isn’t there to make me think so much as to raise awareness of what a good person you are,” Maher said as he wrapped up the monologue, closing by suggesting April should be designated as “Chill the F**k Out Month.” . . .

Everyone can say “the lives of blacks matter,” but you might decline to say “Black Lives Matter.”  . . . "The Black Lives Matter movement begins with a simple slogan everyone can agree with—that the lives of people of color are important. They matter. According to the webpage on the Black Lives Matter site, we can see what else they believe and work for. They stand for “justice and freedom for black people—and by extension for all people.” In other words, “All lives matter.” So far so good. That is also something with which every right-minded person can agree.Taking their words on the website at face value, there are other idealistic and worthy causes to which most decent people can give a nod. When we read their manifesto to the end, however, we discover further aims: . . ."

It’s Now Five: Two More Cuomo Accusers Step Forward, Calls for His Resignation Intensify

 Legal Insurrection  “For the good of the state, Governor Cuomo must resign,” New York State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins (D) said in a statement Sunday just hours after Cuomo again insisted he would not step down." (Emphasis in the original)

"It’s impossible to overstate just how bad things have gotten for New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

"It started in late January when the state’s Democratic Attorney General Letitia James detailed how nursing home COVID death numbers were higher than the state originally reported. The undercounting, James said in so many words, was due in part to how New York changed how nursing home deaths from the Wuhan coronavirus were calculated.

"Another explosive report that hit not long after revolved around the governor’s office admitting they deliberately hid nursing home COVID death data from state lawmakers because they feared an investigation by Trump’s DOJ. Another bombshell report revealed the actual number of COVID-positive patients who were let back into nursing home facilities was 9,056, which was over 40% higher than what Cuomo’s health department had initially reported.

"And late last week, the Wall Street Journal reported that “Cuomo’s top advisers successfully pushed state health officials [last summer] to strip a public report of data showing that more nursing-home residents had died of Covid-19 than the administration had acknowledged.”

"On top of the reports on the governor’s office deliberately deceiving state lawmakers, the press, and the public on the nursing home death numbers have been the sexual harassment allegations. The combination of both scandals has led to various calls from Democrats for Cuomo to either resign or be censured or impeached. At a press conference last Wednesday, Cuomo said he would not step down.

"Investigations into both matters are underway." . . .

Top Leader In Albany Said Cuomo Should Resign If Accusers Hits “4”. Now Totally Silent As Count Hits 5…   ...“ '@AndreaSCousins we now have five accusers alleging predatory sexual behavior by the highest-ranking elected official in our state – one more than the red line you laid down two days ago. It’s time. The people of NY state deserve nothing less. Call for his resignation,” tweeted Lawler.

Three Trump Foreign Policy Successes Biden Is Undoing

Breitbart  "President Joe Biden is undoing several foreign policy successes of the Trump administration for no apparent reason other than radical ideology and political spite.

"In each case, former President Donald Trump was able to achieve goals that both parties had long claimed to share. And in each case, Biden has not only hurt the interests of the United States, but reduced the leverage that he might otherwise have had to pursue foreign policy goals unique to his administration. Three examples:

Border policy: President Trump signed agreements with Central American countries that slowed the flow of migrants. In June 2019, he announced a deal with Mexico under which it would deploy troops to its southern border and allow asylum-seekers to remain in Mexico while their cases were adjudicated in the U.S. That fall, he reached deals with the “Northern Triangle” countries to keep asylum-seekers home. There is no reason for Biden to have dismantled these humane policies, which kept vulnerable migrants out of the hands of cartels and deterred thousands from undertaking a risky journey (and sending their children to do the same). He could have kept them in place even while changing U.S. immigration policies. Consequently, there has been a massive surge of migrants to the border — especially unaccompanied minors — and there undoubtedly will be more. The reason appears to be that the Biden administration wants more migrants to come north.

"Middle East: President Trump signed the Abraham Accords, creating a network of peace deals between Israel and many Arab and Muslim states. Biden has punished many of the key players: raising tariffs on the United Arab Emirates (UAE); withholding arms sales to the UAE and Saudi Arabia; de-listing the anti-Saudi, pro-Iran Houthi militia as a terror group; publishing an intelligence report naming the Saudi Crown Prince as a key player in the murder of Jamal Khashoggi; and appointing the same pro-Iran diplomats who crafted the disastrous Iran nuclear deal. All Biden had to do was continue where Trump had left off, rewarding Arab and Muslim countries that made peace, and maintaining pressure on Iran. But Biden’s foreign policy team, apparently blinded by the conviction that everything Trump did must necessarily be wrong, continues to repeat the mistakes of the Obama administration, which appeased Iran and allowed it to cause regional chaos.

"Keystone XL Pipeline: It was understood that Biden would rejoin the Paris Climate Agreement — even though the U.S. reduced carbon emissions without it, and experts admitted it would not be enough to make an real impact on the global climate. However, he went further, canceling the permit for the Keystone XL — a pipeline that would have created tens of thousands of “good, paying, union jobs” (to quote Biden’s favorite refrain) on both sides of the border. The pipeline is the cleanest, least carbon-intensive way of transporting oil that will now most likely be moved by rail and by truck. Canada’s Liberal government, under Justin Trudeau, was only too happy to see the project canceled, never mind the economic cost. But all Biden needed to do was leave the Keystone XL in place. Instead, he pursued a symbolic victory to appease radical environmentalists, increasing emissions while killing jobs and undermining America’s hard-fought energy independence." . . .

Evangelicals For Biden ‘Feel Used And Betrayed’ By Biden Fulfilling His Radical Abortion Promises

Define "evangelists"

 The Federalist  "In an open letter released Sunday, Pro-Life Evangelicals for Biden urged him to “honor his commitment” and include the Hyde Amendment in Democrats’ $1.9 trillion COVID-19 spending package, writing “we feel used and betrayed.” The letter states:

We are very disappointed about the COVID-19 relief package’s exclusion of the Hyde Amendment, a longstanding bipartisan policy that prevents taxpayer funding for abortion. We’re even more upset that the Biden administration is supporting this bill. As pro-life leaders in the evangelical community, we publicly supported President Biden’s candidacy with the understanding that there would be engagement [with] us on the issue of abortion and particularly the Hyde Amendment …We feel used and betrayed and have no intention of simply watching these kinds of efforts happen from the sidelines.

Pro-life Evangelicals for Biden Share Regretful Message

Hold up. Pro-life evangelicals, whose most important issue is (presumably) pro-life policies, chose not to vote for the most pro-life president ever, but instead voted for a radically pro-abortion candidate on the premise that he’d... have a dialogue with them!?

"Speaker Pelosi has introduced a spending plan that pays off nearly every imaginable left-wing interest group"

Pelosi’s HR1 bill a blatant power grab for Democrats  "Nancy Pelosi’s top priority is to turn America into a one-party nation ruled by Democrats. Her bill HR 1 trashes the U.S. Constitution in an attempt to rig the system and make it virtually impossible to elect a Republican president or Congress again. It’s a power grab.

"The bill eviscerates state voting laws and forces all the states to conform to a set of rules that includes automatic voter registration. Anyone who goes to a DMV or applies for food stamps, Medicaid or other social services, or attends a public college will be automatically enrolled to vote." . . .

Republicans in Congress and President Trump need to unanimously and loudly denounce this New New Deal scam, which would pad the wallets of those who are funded by programs that have zero to do with the virus itself. Coronavirus didn't create the $100 billion Illinois and New Jersey pension deficits.

Abolish the police? After little boy has seizure, family gives up on 911 call after hearing automated hold message

 Law Enforcement Today

"KANSAS CITY, MO – A family in Kansas City was recently shocked when they called 911 while a 4-year-old child fell unconscious and began seizing, due to the family being greeted by an automated “please hold” message when calling the emergency number.

"This in turn caused the family to abandon their 911 outreach efforts, opting to simply rush the child to the hospital themselves. While the boy is okay, the 911 debacle that transpired does present concerns. " . . .

. . . "In four of the months from 2020, the average hold time for 911 callers was longer than 20 seconds. In two of the months of 2020, there were recorded hold times that exceeded 12 minutes with some 911 callers.

"And on the very same day that the family called 911 about little Nathan, another 911 caller was on hold for 1 minute 21 seconds and another caller was on hold for 3 minutes and 51 seconds.

"In all fairness though, the average wait time for 911 callers that day was 12 seconds – but when there’s an active emergency, every second counts. " .  . .

What Does ‘Defund the Police’ Mean?

“Defund the Police” is a more ambiguous expression, and therefore less threatening to potential allies, than “Abolish the Police.” The genius of the phrase is that it encompasses both means and end.

The GayBC‘s are In, Dr. Seuss is Out

 The Stream

"More than a decade ago, I purchased a number of gay-themed books for children, wanting to see what parents and educators were reading to their little ones. Recently, I became aware of The GayBC’s, by M. L. Webb, published in 2019 and as extreme as any children’s reader I have seen. Yet these days, books like this are celebrated while the beloved Dr. Seuss is deprecated.

"The blurb for Webb’s book joyfully proclaims, “The GayBCs is perfect for fans of A Is for Activist and Feminist Baby — showing kids and adults alike that every identity is worthy of being celebrated.”

"The suggested reading age is children 4-8, and the book contains lines like this: “Bi is for bi” (as in bisexual) and “C is for coming out” and “D is for drag” and “N is for non-binary” and “Q is for queer” and “S is for sashay.”

"I’ve even seen a video of a child well under four going through the pages of this book, pages which he had clearly memorized. What kind of madness is this? And what little child on the planet can possibly understand the meaning of these words and terms? Yet one professional reviewer stated, “The GayBCs should be required reading for all children.”

"This is shameless – and dangerous – indoctrination. " . . .

Trump Will Exact His Revenge On Murkowski for Her Impeachment Vote

 Rick Moran

  • "Loyalty is a quality highly prized in people, especially political people.

    "But political loyalty can be ephemeral. It’s the “what have you done for me lately” syndrome that determines many politicians’ loyalty. For Donald Trump. who has thrown his share of politicians under the bus, loyalty is defined as personal fealty to his person.

    "To Trump. It’s not a cause or party that he demands loyalty to. It is to him and him alone that loyalty is demanded and expected.

    “ 'I will not be endorsing, under any circumstances, the failed candidate from the great State of Alaska, Lisa Murkowski,” Trump said in a statement first reported by Politico. “She represents her state badly and her country even worse. I do not know where other people will be next year, but I know where I will be — in Alaska campaigning against a disloyal and very bad Senator.”. . .

Leftists Start a Pillow Fight with Mike Lindell

 Charles Turot (Pseudonym)*  . . . "Is there an American who doesn't know Lindell?  A college dropout and serial entrepreneur, he became addicted to crack cocaine.  He lost his home and was divorced.  He credits his sobriety to his Christian faith . He's passionate about it, as anyone should be after escaping the talons of the devil.  There but for the grace of God goes any of us.  He invented his revolutionary pillow in 2004.

CDN

"My pillow is a MyPillow.  It costs a lot, but darned if it doesn't do exactly what it claims.  The typical box-store pillow is shot after a year at most.  MyPillow soldiers on.  Lindell's son is running the company now, though Dad's familiar face still sells the products on TV.  His new ambition is politics.  Last March, "the MyPillow guy" appeared with the president, praising his handling of COVID and dedicating his factories to production of then-scarce masks.  He defied the narrative that we should tremble in our locked down homes and it was all Trump's fault.  With his highly visible support of the Orange Man, the benevolent bedding-peddler with the cross around his neck quickly earned a place on the Public Enemies List of the mainstream media and the radical left.

. . .

"We also support those who do.  We stocked up Goya foods in response to a boycott when its CEO joined a presidential panel on Hispanic enterprise.  The shelves were half-emptied in my supermarket.  We ordered from L.L. Bean more than ever when a donation to a Trump PAC from a Bean family member sparked a boycott (not that its products aren't sufficient reason for loyalty).

"Conservatives support businesses who support freedom: freedom of expression, freedom of political affiliation, freedom to pursue success.  The left boycotts those same businesses, for the same reason.  This defines conservatives as well as anything.

"Your money, it turns out, buys not just pillows.  It buys freedom, for you and for others.  Where you spend your money matters much more now than it did when we bought the old sofa.

Condemning The Racist And Anti-Semitic Views Of The Reverend Al Sharpton

The Federalist, 2019

"The text of this resolution, sponsored by Joe Scarborough, was introduced 03/08/2000."

"Whereas the Congress strongly rejects the racist and incendiary actions of the Reverend Al Sharpton;

"Whereas the Reverend Al Sharpton has referred to members of the Jewish faith as “bloodsucking [J]ews”, and “Jew bastards”;

Whereas the Reverend Al Sharpton has referred to members of the Jewish faith as “white interlopers” and “diamond merchants”;

Whereas the Reverend Al Sharpton was found guilty of defamation by a jury in a New York court arising from the false accusation that former Assistant District Attorney Steven Pagones, who is white, raped and assaulted a fifteen year-old black girl;

"Whereas, to this day, the Reverend Al Sharpton has refused to accept responsibility and expresses no regret for defaming Mr. Pagones;

"Whereas the Reverend Al Sharpton’s vicious verbal anti-Semitic attacks directed at members of the Jewish faith, and in particular, a Jewish landlord, arising from a simple landlord-tenant dispute with a black tenant, incited widespread violence, riots, and the murder of five innocent people;

"Whereas the Reverend Al Sharpton’s fierce demagoguery incited violence, riots, and murder in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn, New York, following the accidental death of a black pedestrian child hit by the motorcade of Orthodox Rabbi Menachem Schneerson;

"Whereas the Reverend Al Sharpton led a protest in the Crown Heights neighborhood and marched next to a protester with a sign that read, “The White Man is the Devil”;

"Whereas the Reverend Al Sharpton has insulted members of the Jewish faith by challenging Jews to violence and stating to Jews to “pin down” their yarmulkes; and

"Whereas the Reverend Al Sharpton has practiced the politics of racial division and made inflammatory remarks against whites by characterizing the deathof Amadou Diallo as a “racially motivated police `assassination”:
