There Is No Such Thing As A Free Grocery Store

Issues & Insights

"Unlikely, on both counts. The 33-year-old is a typical know-it-all who actually knows nothing. His real-world experience is less than that of typical high school student from flyover country."

"Zohran Mamdani, winner of the Democratic Party’s New York City mayoral primary, is overflowing with Marxist ideas of how to govern that are so lousy that it’s hard to believe he got more than his own vote in Tuesday’s election. Each of them is horrendous, from free bus services to rent control to punitive taxes on those who create prosperity, but none are quite so laughable as his proposal to establish a chain of city-run grocery stores.

"Mamdani’s campaign literature – overflowing with empty leftist jargon – says if elected he “will create a network of city-owned grocery stores focused on keeping prices low, not making a profit.” The mission “is lower prices, not price gouging.”

"In an interview, the socialist Mamdani said he wants “a pilot program of one store in each borough that builds on the feasibility study that was done in Chicago,” which, incidentally, was never released and has been put on a dusty shelf where it will grow moldy.

"Apparently not even that city’s Marxist mayor believed he could make the idea work.

"It’s nearly impossible to imagine any adult would propose opening government-owned grocery stores. The concept might make for spirited debate in a junior high social studies class. In the real world, though, there are consequences.

“ 'If the city of New York is going socialist, I will definitely close, or sell, or move or franchise the Gristedes locations,” says John Catsimatidis, the CEO of the Gristedes chain, which “has been feeding New Yorkers for over 100 years.”

"This should alarm Mamdani. It won’t. He’ll be glad to get rid of a dirty profit-monger who doesn’t belong in his socialist utopia.

"Far from New York is Erie, Kansas, which became known as the “small town that saved its only grocery store — by buying it.” The city took over Stub’s Market in early 2021 after learning that it was to close.

"But it didn’t go well. The Wall Street Journal reported in October 2023 that it was “losing money almost every month.” City Clerk Jamie Janssen told the Journal that the goal was “to narrow losses to under $100,000 this year.” Losses had reached $132,000 the year before, even though volunteers stock the goods, some of which are donated by local businesses.

"Last year, after learning that “owning the store is difficult and costly for the city,” Erie sold the market. If a city of not even 1,000 residents can’t keep a small government-owned store from losing $100,000 a year, what will the losses add up to in New York City?" . . .More...

Democrats blew it; The most popular place in America today is Alligator Alcatraz.

 Don Surber

"[Ketanji Brown Jackson] is not helping Democrats because she is a reminder that the Democrats resist everything Trump does. Democrats refused to stand and applaud a young cancer victim at Trump’s State of the Union address. Bad move. President Trump is popular. None of them are." They didn't know that would happen?

"The most popular place in America today is Alligator Alcatraz. Not every swamp needs to be drained. If you are an illegal alien, don’t bother with Disney World. Take your family to Alligator Alcatraz. The flight from the airport at the end of the visit alone is worth the visit. Where you land, nobody knows!

"The mayor of LA and the governor of California are trying to block ICE from rounding up illegal aliens. Newsom sees DeSantis as the biggest block to the presidency.

"So Brylcreem Boy trash-talked Alligator Alcatraz: “They're not serious people. What an embarrassment. Imagine the rest of the world looking at that. $450M a year of wasted tax money for pure theater.”

" 'He spent twice that on a railroad bridge to nowhere.

"Mayor Karen went to an ICE raid on illegal aliens. She said, “They need to leave, and they need to leave NOW.”

"She didn’t mean the 11 million invaders. She meant ICE. California emptied its mental hospitals and sent the inmates to run City Hall and the state Capitol.

"ICE targeted MacArthur Park. Richard Harris hardest hit. I understand that locals now call it Meth Arthur Park. Democrats have surrendered LA—and many more cities—to Satan and his drugs." . . .

Mattel introduces new ‘type 1 diabetes’ Barbie

pixabay
Eric Utter  "Mattel recently announced the release of its first-ever Barbie doll with type 1 diabetes! (Complete with a continuous glucose monitor and a pink insulin pump.)

"Yay! Way cool! And so inclusive!
"Krista Berger, senior vice president of Barbie and global head of dolls, released a statement saying
Introducing a Barbie doll with type 1 diabetes marks an important step in our commitment to inclusivity and representation.  . . .

. . . "On this logic, I can imagine an anonymous source telling me that Mattel plans to come out with at least a baker’s dozen of other “inclusive” Barbies in the near future, including:

*Irritable Bowel Syndrome -- or IBS — Barbie. (Can’t wait for this one! Will she come complete with Depends™ and medication?)
*Montezuma’s Revenge Barbie. (Similar to IBS Barbie, but this one has just returned from Mexico…and boy is her sphincter tired!)
*Breast Cancer Barbie. (Historically not well-endowed, this Barbie will come with three different sizes of breast prostheses, including a DDD!)
*Colostomy Bag Barbie. (This barbie may be hiding this accessory from Ken. Or maybe not.)
*Transitioning Barbie. (How topical?! How inclusive?! How fun?! Rumor has it this Barbie will come with various snap-on/off parts from all genders! She/He/They will also come with assorted pronouns and an extra “Billy” name tag.)
*Lyme Disease Barbie. (This Barbie will feature a small “bullseye” ring on her arm and come with various ointments and medications.)
*Autistic Barbie. (This Barbie frequently loses focus and has trouble communicating. She cries a lot and often prefers to be by herself. She is often stressed out and doesn’t like changes in routine.)
*Tourette Syndrome Barbie. (This might be my favorite of all the new Barbies! She will often twitch, bark, and yell out “f*** Ken!” and other obscenities while in public places. It doesn’t get much more inclusive than this! Fun for the whole family!)
*Obesity epidemic Barbie. (So meaningful. An inspired attempt to counteract ‘fatphobia.’ Though she is as wide as she is tall, she is still beautiful, right?)
*Coronavirus Barbie. (A ‘legacy’ throwback, complete with N-95 mask. Must always stay at least 6 feet from Ken. Makes me nostalgic for ‘the good ol’ days!’)
*Methamphetamine Barbie. (This Barbie is so, like, today! She never eats and is always ‘amped up.’ Her eyes twitch and her teeth are decaying. Well done, Mattel!)
*Artificial-limb Barbie. (Granted, it is a bit hard to tell on a small plastic doll, but this Barbie proudly sports an artificial arm … and leg! But there is nothing artificial about her big heart!)
*Upper-class ultra-liberal Barbie, a.k.a., “Karen” Barbie. (This Barbie comes with dyed hair, a nose-ring, a Palestinian flag, and a “My Vagina Doesn’t Open For Trump Supporters” tee-shirt. She’s dumber than the plastic she’s made out of, but always thinks she’s right.)

How Universities Created Zohran Mamdani

"Our universities now produce educated barbarians who are uneducated on the atrocities of antisemitism."

 The American Spectator

"The results speak for themselves. When nearly half of young Americans cannot name Auschwitz, when basic historical facts disappear into academic fashions, we create a generation vulnerable to the very ideologies that once nearly destroyed civilization." . . .

"There is a particular species of ignorance that flourishes in the academy: one that mistakes moral posturing for moral reasoning, slogans for scholarship, and fashionable outrage for historical understanding. Zohran Mamdani, now the Democratic nominee for mayor of New York City, represents the perfected specimen of this breed: the educated barbarian.
"Consider the extraordinary trajectory that led us here. A man who praised Hamas financiers in rap songs, who declared Israel guilty of genocide within days of October 7, who promises to arrest foreign leaders based on his interpretation of international law — this man now stands poised to govern America’s largest city. He is not some fringe radical clawing his way up from the margins. He is the product of Bowdoin College, one of our finest liberal arts institutions, where his worldview was carefully cultivated and his activism legitimized.
"
The pathology began early. At Bowdoin, Mamdani co-founded the college’s first Students for Justice in Palestine chapter, which
invited As’ad AbuKhalil, a professor who would later declare that America “made its bed” with the September 11 attacks and had “inflicted many 9/11s on people around the world.” This was not youthful indiscretion but institutional validation: a prestigious liberal arts college providing a platform for someone who celebrated George Habash, dubbed “the godfather of Middle East terrorism.”
"Mamdani’s education exemplifies a broader institutional failure. Recent surveys reveal the staggering scope of historical ignorance among young Americans. Nearly half of millennials cannot name a single concentration camp from the more than 40,000 that existed during the Holocaust. In New York — Mamdani’s own state — an astounding 58 percent cannot identify even one. When 63 percent of young Americans don’t know that six million Jews were murdered, and 36 percent believe the number was two million or fewer, we confront an educational catastrophe.
"Most disturbing of all: 19 percent of New York’s millennials believe Jews caused the Holocaust — the highest rate in the nation. Such ignorance doesn’t emerge spontaneously. It requires systematic cultivation by institutions that have abandoned their responsibility to transmit historical truth." . . .
. . ."The remedy is both simple and radical: mandatory Holocaust education in every university — not merely as a graduate program but as a required undergraduate course. Students should study the Wannsee Conference minutes, read Eichmann’s testimony, examine the railway schedules that carried millions to their deaths. They should understand that when Nazi officials spoke of the “final solution,” they meant exactly what they said." . . .Read more...

Schumer and the Democrats’ Antisemitism Problem

The American Spectator

"All of which is to say, Democrats have a decided antisemitism problem in their ranks. And with the election years of 2026 and 2028 directly ahead, stay tuned for a potentially pitched internal battle over the issue."

"The Wall Street Journal gets it.

"Over there on the WSJ editorial page, the paper’s editors have penned a sharply observant piece headlined: “Chuck Schumer’s Mamdani Test: Will the New York Senator abandon his life-long convictions?”

"In which New York’s U.S. senator — the Senate’s Democratic Leader, no less — is taken to task for playing cutesy with Zohran Mamdani, the Democrats’ recent and apparent choice for mayor of New York.

"A recent arrival on the national stage, Mamdani has quickly been revealed not simply as a Communist/Socialist sympathizer but someone with a decided record of antisemitism.

"Among other things, the WSJ noted: “Mr. Mamdani is a socialist who spoke as an Assemblyman of ‘seizing the means of production’ and blamed Israel, not Hamas, on Oct. 8, 2023.”

"Even more to the point, the WSJ notes that Senator Schumer has recently authored a book with this title: Antisemitism in America: A Warning.

"As it happens, I bought the Schumer book when it came out — before Mamdani was even on the political horizon. And obviously, Schumer wrote his book well before Mamdani was nominated by his fellow New York Democrats.

"The fact of Mamdani’s rise after the Schumer book appeared ironically makes Schumer’s book even more relevant, with a look back at exactly what Schumer had to say before he was suddenly confronted with an antisemitic mayoral nominee from his own hometown, seriously relevant indeed.

"With that in mind, follow along as I note here some of what Schumer has had to say about antisemitism — all of it pre-Mamdani. For example, Schumer writes:

“For the first time in my life, widespread antisemitism is a serious problem in America, and it’s getting worse.”

“I believe it is my duty to alert our country to the rising tide of antisemitism, to clarify how it can be identified and how it can be stopped.”

“In other words, antisemitism is a long-enduring form of racism, one of the world’s oldest and most powerful types …. To some antisemitism almost defies explanation. But the best explanation is the simplest one.”

“Antisemitism means hating Jewish people and all things Jewish.”

“Antisemitism just is. Has been. Will always be.”

"Schumer rolls on. And yes, some readers will roll their eyes at a senator going on and on as United States senators of all stripes are prone to do." . . .

Jasmine Crockett: Trump Supporters Tried to Assassinate President, Violence Doesn’t Come From Democrats

RedState

Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett believes violence doesn't come from the left side of the political aisle and insisted the men who tried to carry out assassination attempts against the President last year were actually "Trump supporters."

Gaslighting 101.

Crockett (D-TX) spoke with comedian Hasan Minhaj, another alumnus from "The Daily Show," a fake news program that leftists like to fall back on for their world views.

Minhaj prompted the Democrat by suggesting her Republican colleagues had shied away from impeaching President Trump because they were concerned about violence from their own voters.

Crockett took that claim, poured fuel on it, and lit a match with what can only be politely referred to as stupid on steroids.

" 'The violence doesn't come from Democrats, just to be clear," Crockett claimed without evidence. "I mean, obviously, anyone can be a criminal, but, um, it is MAGA. It's specifically MAGA faction."

" 'Like, I don't think traditional Republicans are getting engaged in all of this, but like even when we look at - and they don't talk about the assassination attempts anymore, that took place with Donald Trump - but these, these were Trump supporters, right?"

"She says this just days removed from a major plot by resistance actors to ambush and assassinate multiple ICE agents in the very state from which she is a Representative.

"It's difficult to ascertain exactly what Crockett is talking about. Republicans don't talk about the assassination attempts anymore? As if they're trying to move on because it, in her mind, turned out to be Trump supporters?

"Blithering. Idiot.

"I'm sorry, did we or did we not just have six members of the Secret Service suspended for their conduct in connection with the assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania? Or nah?

"You can watch more of Crockett's comments—because they get progressively more ludicrous throughout the interview—[Here]."

'Jig Is Up': Democrats Hardest Hit After Details Released on Worst of the Worst at Alligator Alcatraz

Rich Terrell

Sister Toldjah   "As RedState has reported, Democrats and the mainstream media have twisted themselves into knots over the Alligator Alctaraz temporary illegal immigrant detention center in Florida, alleging the center is "inhumane" and environmentally unfriendly even though it has essential amenities like AC and beds, unlike some of the temporary centers set up under Joe Biden's watch.

"The Miami Herald, for instance, published a hit piece this week that was sourced almost entirely by the spouses of some of the detainees and which alleged that there was a "hospitalization" and at times "freezing" temperatures at the location in southern Florida in the middle of the summer.

"DHS quickly debunked the "hospitalization" claim, noting the detainee was taken to the hospital and was back about an hour and a half later.

"But as the Usual Suspects continue to hyperventilate over supposed "conditions" at the Florida Everglades-situated encampment, Florida is releasing more information on just who their critics are defending.

"As one might expect, it's pretty close to a worst-of-the-worst scenario: . . .

Bill Melugin
: NEW: has obtained a list of some of the most egregious criminal aliens being held at Alligator Alcatraz, provided via office. They include multiple murderers, including & Cuban man who slit the throat of an elderly woman in FL & set her house on fire, a Venezuelan alien wanted for murder and aggravated robbery in Venezuela, a Honduran MS-13 gang member known as “Satan” who was convicted of conspiracy to commit murder in New York, and a Cuban alien convicted of sexual assault in Texas. Statement attributable to Attorney General Uthmeier’s Communications Director, : "The left-wing press continues to spend their time amplifying false reports, but the reality is that there are monsters awaiting deportation within Alligator Alcatraz far worse than the monsters lurking in the surrounding Everglades. This group of murderers, rapists, and gang members are just a small sample of the deranged psychopaths that Florida is helping President Trump and his administration remove from our country."

"Can the Senate impeach a SCUTUS justice for being incompetent? That would be fun to watch." UPDATED

Sotomayor Had To Explain The Law To KBJ Like She Was A 5th Grader

"And, and now Sotomayor had to say something similar, a little kinder, but basically it was, okay, Justice Jackson, I’m gonna explain this to you like you’re a fifth grader. Here’s why we need to grant the stay."

Toon added by TD

"Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson was severely castigated and mocked by the 6-3 majority in the “birthright citizenship” (aka “universal injunction”) case for her Dissent which the normally staid Amy Coney Barrett (joined by five other Justices) termed “at odds with more than two centuries’ worth of precedent, not to mention the Constitution itself.” No other Justice, not even Sotomayor or Kagan, joined in KJB’s dissent, which contained numerous KBJ-isms: I’ll meet your “(wait for it)” and raise you a “full stop”.

"KJB is carving out as niche among liberals as the “Great Dissenter” – but her dissents are so shallow that in the recent case in which the majority (8-1) stayed a district court order halting the mere planning for layoffs, Sotomayor had to spell out for KBJ why her solo dissent was legally unsound (emphasis added):" . . .

"The Gentle Grizzly commented: It warms the cockles of my heart to see places like Harvard dunging people like Jackson, or that Boston University graduating somebody like AOC. Certainly pierces the balloon of those fancy lah de dah colleges."

Ketanji Fatigue  . . ."The most surprising aspect of the majority’s agreed-upon shaming of Jackson’s “legal reasoning,” if such it can be called, is that it took so long to publish something of the sort. While campaigning for the White House in 2020, Joe Biden promised to nominate a “black woman” to any potential Supreme Court vacancy, should he win the election, thus denoting Jackson as an obvious DEI hire when she was nominated to the Court in 2022." . . .

Tour Group Under NUCLEAR Levels of Fire for Sending Grossly Antisemitic Email Refusing to Host Israelis

Doesn't anyone know what happened on Oct 7, 2023?

Twitchy  "
The same people who supported forcing a Coloradoan to bake a cake for a lesbian marriage seem AOK with a bunch of antisemites turning Jews down from taking advantage of their company.

"Almost as if our pals on the Left are ok with discrimination as long as it's their side doing the so-called discriminating.

"Check this out:

When they were contacted to inquire about their antisemitic response, a man named John from their team replied “Yes. Not interested to host so called israelis. Is there a problem with that?

How many of you are going to bother us? Just move on.”

So, no John, we won’t move on and how many of us are going to bother you? Many of us.

Want to know why? Because this isn’t Germany 1940 and we are no longer weak. We no longer have to take this antisemitic abuse, so you will be held accountable.

I hope the internet makes you pay for your disgusting words!

Democrats side with the bad guys over deportations. [UPDATED]

Dem Senators Want Law Enforcement Unmasked – Yet Mandated Mask Wearing for 3 Years’ in CA During COVID  "ICE agents wear masks primarily for their safety, as they face threats and harassment from the public, including doxing and death threats against their families.

"But Democrats are now pushing for ICE agents and members of law enforcement to unmask themselves.

"California State Senators Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) and Jesse Arreguin (D-Berkeley) are the authors of SB 627, the “No Secret Police Act” to prohibit law enforcement at all levels from covering their faces while conducting operations in the state of California.

"The bill also requires officers to be identifiable on their uniform.

“ 'As the Trump Administration expands the use of secret police tactics, SB 627 boosts transparency and supports public safety by bolstering public trust in law enforcement,” Sen. Wiener and Arreguin said in a press statement Monday.

"Ironically, these are the same people who mandated masks on everyone’s faces in California, including babies and children, during the coronavirus flu outbreak, while locking 4o0 million people down for 3 years.

"It’s as nutty as California Governor Gavin Newsom calling President Donald Trump an authoritarian, when Newsom ordered California locked down for 3 years, mandated masks, social distancing and the covid shot, to go back to work and school." . . .

"Authoritarianism? Totalitarianism? That’s rich, you rancid, unapologetic jackbooted Democrat politicians. Namely, Gavin Newsom, Scott Wiener, Jesse Arreguin, Hakim Jeffries, and the entire clueless gang. Look in the mirror if you want to see what an autocrat is, what you have so recklessly (and insincerely) called others. The unmitigated GALL of you people. Haven’t you had enough?"  Massachusetts Democrats Propose Ban on Masks for All Law Enforcement

"It's sort of funny when people picket in front of Columbia, in front of Harvard, and they have masks on—more than masks," said President Trump on Wednesday. "I mean, you can't see anything. Nobody complains about that. But when a patriot who works for ICE or Border Patrol puts a mask on so that they won't recognize him and his family, so they can lead a little bit of a normal life after having worked so hard and so dangerously, there's a problem with that."

Anarchists target civil servants who enforce immigration law, especially if they mask up. | Debra J. Saunders  . . ."The Department of Homeland Security says there has been a 700 percent increase in assaults against ICE agents.

" 'And yet some Democrats see ICE agents doing their jobs as the problem.

"In May, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz asserted, “Donald Trump’s modern-day Gestapo is scooping folks up off the streets, they’re in unmarked vans, wearing masks, being shipped off to foreign torture dungeons.”

"On July 1, Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., posted on X, “ICE is acting like a terrorist force. People all across the country of all legal statuses — including U.S. citizens — are being kidnapped and disappeared off the street by masked men.”

ICE agents ‘doxed’ on social media, wear masks after receiving death threats, director says – Boston 25 News

“They are wearing those masks because we ran an operation with the Secret Service where we arrested someone that was going online, taking their photos, posting their families’, their kids’ Instagram, their kids’ Facebooks and targeting them,” Lyons said Monday."

At Socialism 2025, @UPenn lecturer Geo Maher says the U.S. won’t be a democracy until the “neo-Confederates sticking their heads out of their snake holes” are “decapitated.” Let’s be clear: in this space, neo-Confederate means anyone to the right of Bernie.

It's Fetterman who is the unusual one with at least a little bit of sense in today's Democratic Party. He's trying to bring them back to sense. However, it's not working so far.
