Issa vs. Holder: It's Go Time!

Via Drudge; Issa pushes ahead with Holder contempt vote despite Obama intervention

"Rep. Darrell Issa pressed ahead with a committee vote Wednesday to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress, despite an 11th-hour move by President Obama to exert executive privilege over the Fast and Furious documents at the heart of the dispute.
"The announcement instantly touched off a caustic debate on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, as Democrats accused Issa of prosecuting a "political witch hunt" and Republicans stepped up their criticism of Holder's "stonewalling" over the Fast and Furious probe. Even for Washington, the tone at the hearing was decidedly bitter and accusatory."

FLASHBACK: Obama Blasts Bush For "Hiding Behind Executive Privilege"
"You know, there's been a tendency on the part of this administration to -- to try to hide behind executive privilege every time there's something a little shaky that's taking place. And I think, you know, the administration would be best served by coming clean on this. There doesn't seem to be any national security issues involved with the U.S. attorney question. There doesn't seem to be any justification for not offering up some clear, plausible rationale for why these -- these U.S. attorneys were targeted when, by all assessments, they were doing an outstanding job. I think the American people deserve to know what was going on there.”

M Catharine Evans; Holder Met with Issa, Didn't Bring the Goods  "Issa has a textbook contempt case against Holder. The attorney general is required by law to comply with a congressional subpoena so what is Holder going to the mat for?
"The mainstream media is complicit as well. Their deafening silence coupled with Holder's arrogance must be inversely proportional to their level of guilt."

CNN; Obama asserts executive privilege over 'Fast and Furious' document  "President Barack Obama has asserted executive privilege over document sought by a House committee investigating the botched Fast and Furious gun-running sting, said a letter to the panel Wednesday from Deputy Attorney Gen. James Cole.
"The move means the Department of Justice can withhold the documents from the panel."
