"New York City’s Jewish fire commissioner Robert Tucker handed in his resignation first thing Wednesday — just one day after anti-Israel Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani was elected, The Post has learned.

"Tucker, a Jewish philanthropist and businessman, will step down from the role he has held for just over 12 months on Dec. 19, sources said.

"He will go back to running the private security firm, T&M, which he headed before joining Mayor Eric Adams’ administration, the sources added." . . .

". . . "He’s also been involved in various charitable endeavors, including serving as secretary of the FDNY Foundation, and has received honors from the New York Board of Rabbis and Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City.

"His Jewish faith was clear when his father held a copy of the Tanach – the Hebrew bible – for his swearing in, according to the Jewish News Syndicate. It was the same bible that was reportedly used for his bar mitzvah." . . .

Mamdani winning in NY means antisemitism can win elections, would impact Jews globally    "Every Jew across the world has been following New York City’s mayoral election, although it may be far away from where they live. By early Wednesday morning Israel time, we will probably know who won this mayoral race held on Tuesday, with results expected soon after polls close in the US.
"According to The Jerusalem Post’s election-day brief, “Mamdani, Cuomo, and Sliwa face off as New York City polls open,” and “the city’s Jewish community has been divided in its support of Mamdani.”
"Regardless of whether Mamdani wins, this election period in New York has caught the attention not only of the Jewish world but of the world at large. Its effects will be felt far beyond New York City.
"Mamdani has been called a “raging antisemite, a terrorist sympathizer, an ardent socialist, and a polarizing figure” – language that reflects why the campaign has become a global story.
"Mamdani’s own words have amplified concerns. In a 2021 clip resurfaced in the Post coverage, he said co-founding Bowdoin’s SJP chapter and anti-Israel BDS activism were the “crux of the reason” he joined the Democratic Socialists of America." . . .
. . . "If he wins, this is a clear message for the Democratic Party: Antisemites can lead; they are no longer in the margins. This means that being a supporter of a boycott of Israel – not just West Bank goods but also sovereign Israel – is normal.
"This means that globalizing the intifada, as he calls it, is a relevant call for destroying the only Jewish state in the world, while dozens of Arab and Muslim states already exist.
"Mamdani, though, created a counter-effect and united most of the Jewish community – including Reform Jews and Orthodox Jews, young and old – around this cause. Unfortunately, we needed a Mamdani to make that happen." . . .

Linda Sarsour: Mamdani's biggest financial backer is Council on American–Islamic Relations

"Pro-Mamdani super PAC New Yorkers for Lower Costs “took $100,000 from the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), Unity and Justice Fund, an organization whose leader said that he was, quote, ‘happy about October 7th,’” he said in October, according to Politico."

Mamdani Poses 'Clear and Immediate Threat' to NYC's Jews

"There is a clear and immediate threat to Jewish institutions and synagogues, most of which are secured by the New York Police Department," Akunis said. "These include those that have been targeted by these demonstrators in the past."
