Impeachment commentary:"Impeachment Is Not the Issue, It's the 2020 Election"

American Thinker is a site you can link to for thoughtful commentary on politics

Impeachment Is Not the Issue, It's the 2020 Election

Sally Zelikovsky: For Pelosi's Impeachment Democrats, It's All about the Disruption
. . . "With the Democrats, we have a case of a predictable paternalistic party that controls the media, the educational system, and the culture.  We must identify all of their vulnerabilities, which can overlap with their strengths, anticipate their moves, and devise a strategy to defeat them before they even know what hit them. Kind of like what the Democrats have been doing to us for decades." . . .
Some of us had suggested that the Democrats would exert untold pressure on weaklings in the GOP – Romney, Collins, Murkowski, Portman, Gardner, etc.—to persuade them to vote with Democrats and against the Republican majority for a “fair” trial and any number of procedural votes that only required a 51-vote majority.
There are Republican RINOs who would side with these people:

Bill Livingstone: Impeachment Is Not the Issue, It's the 2020 Election  . . . "What do the Democrats offer voters in response?  High taxes, open borders, gun confiscation, abolishing ICE, uprooting the electoral college, restricting free speech, a Green New Deal, free health care for illegal aliens, scrubbing bail for crimes, and more – all loony left issues that scare the bejesus out of middle America.  Making matters worse, the leading Democrat presidential candidates are a bust, uninspiring talking heads who can barely muster a respectable crowd in far-left districts.
"So how do Democrats hope to win in November?  By making Trump the issue.  By demonizing the president to such an extent that voters will turn against him despite his successes." . . .

Andrea Widburg: The Democrats' weird response to sending the impeachment articles
to the Senate
As you watch the House Democrats' revelry, don't forget that these same House Democrats refused to give a vote of support to the ordinary Iranians facing down their violent, despotic, theocratic government.

The Democrat candidates and the Trump Economy

Rich Terrell, genius
The Democrat candidates live in Never-Neverland  . . . "Sanders, who seems to be in the lead, is the very worst of the bunch.  He is a communist who honeymooned in the USSR and, if elected, would govern as one.  That there are any Americans who support this man is an indictment of our public and private education.  Communism and socialism have been blights on every population that has suffered under those ideologies.  That Sanders has any supporters at all is proof that for two generations, American young people have been miseducated.  It is obscene, a crime against our youth.  They are being taught that the Constitution not only is "flawed," but needs to be rejected.  This is treason by faux education.
"All of the Democrat candidates ignored the phenomenal success of the American economy under Trump, the historically low unemployment among all groups, the seven million people no longer on food stamps.  They ignored Trump's decision to take out Soleimani when that was all they could talk about for the last week, how horrible that was." . . .

NFL Legend Franco Harris Says He Would Have "Beat The HELL Out Of Traitors Like Kaepernick"

Breaking First   . . . “When he puts on that suit, when he steps out on that field, now it’s more than just him. It’s his teammates, it’s the NFL, and it’s the fans.”
"Harris went on to say that the team must come first, and coaches and teammates in his day would have slammed Kaepernick over his protest.
"Harris continued to say Kaepernick is free to voice his personal position, but he could’ve done so on different platform and without dragging the football league into it. As they continued to discuss, Mediaite columnist John Ziegler asked about how Harris’ coaches and teammates would’ve confronted Kaepernick over his protest.
“ 'We had two of the meanest guys in football, who I think would’ve dealt with it that way, and that would’ve been Joe Greene and Jack Lambert,” Harris said."

Andrew Klavan: Booker Suspends Campaign To Spend More Time With His Gladiator Movies

Satirist Andrew Klavan   "It’s time to say a fond farewell to Corey Booker, who has suspended his presidential campaign in order to spend more time with his gladiator movies.
"Senator Booker got the word that he was not going to be president after the word passed through the mind of every single citizen of the United States, made a transit through first Western and then Eastern Europe, moved across the Dardanelles into Asia, then down to Australia , from which it spread throughout the Middle East to the continent of Africa, then made its way across the Atlantic to South then Central America, finally coming up through Mexico and on to Iowa where it was received by Corey Booker, who was completely shocked to hear the news.
"Political analysts say that Booker’s campaign may have failed because the public was confused about his persona. For instance, as a dynamic young black man, Booker hoped to remind voters of Barack Obama, but the voters were never sure whether he was Obama the charming and eloquent politician, or Obama the jerk who killed the economy and screwed up the Middle East.
"Booker hoped to present himself as heroic by declaring that he was Spartacus, but voters just assumed he enjoyed running around bare-chested while wearing a short leather skirt. And Booker thought he could win attention by repeatedly declaring that he was the man for this moral moment, but it turned out that just made him sound like an annoying pain in the ass.
"Finally, Booker thought that he could run on his record as mayor of Newark, New Jersey, where he improved education with charter schools, but that turns out to violate the Democrat platform created by teachers unions, so voters felt they would prefer to vote for an 80-year-old Communist who at least makes them laugh.
"On the positive side, Booker has always made a point of living with his constituents in inner-city, low-income neighborhoods, so at least he won’t have to do crap like that anymore."

Duchess Meghan Wants To Move To ‘Progressive’ California But She Doesn’t Want Her Company To Pay California Taxes

When considering a California celebrity spouse, think of Harry and Meghan; Hollywood screwed up the American culture, the family, rational discourse, roles of the husband and wife, et.al. Now the British culture and traditions are being Californicated, um...royally. TD

Daily Wire  "The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Harry and Meghan, are reportedly looking to move to the United States, at least eventually, after President Donald Trump leaves office. But while they may be eyeing the leftist paradise of Los Angeles, California, the pair’s commitment to social justice apparently ends at their pocketbook.
"Just before the pair announced that they planned to separate from the British royal family and earn their own keep — at least partly — Duchess Meghan revived her California-based lifestyle company, Frim Fram Inc., and moved it out of the state of California, re-registering it in Delaware, where the tax code is far more business-friendly, per the Telegraph.
"Frim Fram, Inc. applied to be a Delaware corporation on New Year’s Eve, sliding in just under the wire so that the newly revived company could avoid paying taxes to the state of California for any income the business might earn in 2020, now that the royal pair are in talks to separate from their current source of income, Prince Charles."
. . .
"The pair also, it seems, wants to pursue a more overt political agenda, something members of the royal family are prohibited from doing. Duchess Meghan, at least, has broken that protocol several times, even after announcing her engagement to Prince Harry. The pair ran into trouble over the summer after Prince Harry suggested people should have two children or fewer to avoid over-taxing the Earth’s resources just before he, his wife, and his young son boarded a series of carbon-spewing private flights to spend quality time in exclusive locations with celebrity hosts.
"Eventually the pair plan to move to the United States — at least according to reports that surfaced over the weekend, indicating that Harry and Meghan want to end up in Los Angeles, California, eventually. The pair, who are said to be talking to George and Amal Clooney and Oprah Winfrey about their plans, won’t make their home in the United States, though, until after Trump leaves office. Duchess Meghan has been an open critic of Trump."

Impeachment: Do Republicans Have More Fun?

                                                    Fast Company explains impeachment

Ann Coulter  "Impeachments aren’t what they used to be. Today, young people are supposed to be excited that the president withheld taxpayer money from Ukraine –- a half-billion-dollar foreign aid package that ticks off most Americans under any circumstances, going to a country notable for not being our country, and for a purpose other than the wall.
"Now, Bill Clinton –- that was an impeachment!
"First, there was the corpus delicti of the case -- a White House intern, Monica Lewinsky, earning her “presidential kneepads” by sexually servicing the president.
"The telephonic evidence wasn’t about “Burisma Holdings Limited” or a Ukrainian prosecutor whose name no one can remember. It was tapes of Monica blathering on and on about servicing the president, including such fascinating items as:
-- Clinton couldn’t remember Monica’s name after their first two sexual encounters;" . . .
. . .
Idiots keep announcing on TV that all impeachments are “political,” which they understand to mean “partisan.” No –- that’s not what it means.
"As Alexander Hamilton explained in Federalist 65, impeachable offenses are “political” in the sense that they are attacks on the body politic -- “injuries done immediately to the society itself.”
"It doesn’t get much more injurious to a “nation of laws, not men” than to have the president of the United States perjuring himself over and over and over again in a citizen’s Supreme Court-approved lawsuit against him.
"You see, kids? That was an impeachment!"

Nancy Pelosi names the seven Democrats who will manage Donald Trump's Senate trial and puts Adam Schiff in the lead, saying it will be 'an impeachment that lasts forever'

UK Daily Mail

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (center) names the following impeachment managers: (from left) Reps. Hakeem Jeffries, Sylvia Garcia, Jerry Nadler, Adam Schiff, Val Demings, Zoe Lofgren and Jason Crow
. . . "Pelosi chose all Democrats to serve as managers. There was a push by some to have her also select Rep. Justin Amash, a Republican-turned-independent who has sided with Democrats and supported Trump's impeachment.
"McConnell says the Republican-led upper chamber will begin opening arguments in the impeachment hearing Tuesday next week. Members of Congress will observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday.
"The House voted, almost entirely along party lines, last month to impeach Donald Trump.
"Pelosi then held the impeachment articles in the House, breaking with precedent in sending them immediately to the Senate following the vote.
"The California Democrat said she wanted to prove to the American people in that time that there was a need for witnesses in the Senate trial.
"She repeated that stance Wednesday morning during the brief press conference.
'On December 18, the House of Representatives impeached the President of the United States. An impeachment that will last forever,' Pelosi began. 'Since December 18 there have been comments about when are we going to send the articles over.'
"She said she had hoped the Senate would extend the 'courtesy' to tell the House 'what the process would be.' " . . .

Some bits of the debate:

‘Rigged’: Critics Cry Foul as CNN Debate Slants Against Bernie Sanders  "Supporters of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) are infuriated by the results of the seventh Democrat presidential debate in Iowa because it appears that moderators favored Sen. Elizabeth Warren in the debate hosted by CNN on Tuesday.
"The clearest example of bias cited by debate watchers was when CNN moderator Abby Phillips had the following exchange with Sanders and Warren:" . . .
. . . "After the debate, Warren pointedly refused to shake Sen. Sanders’s hand, a puzzling move, as Warren tried to paint her relationship with the Vermont Senator as respectful and collegial." . . .

Fact Check: Pete Buttigieg Claims Climate Change Caused Australia Fires
“In Australia, there are literally tornados made of fire taking place,” Pete Buttigieg said when asked about climate change. “This is no longer theoretical.”
"But the direct cause of the Australia fires is a result of arson, not climate change, as Breitbart News has chronicled." . . .

Five little-noted doozies from last night's Democratic debate

"Before I drifted off out of boredom, I caught the first part of Democratic debate seven, on foreign policy, health care, identity politics and other topics, and oh, what a revelation about these last six characters from the clown car still standing. These are the people who would occupy the White House and you wouldn't want to be there if it happened.
"Five things stick out as doozies of contradictions, hypocrisy and full-blown whoppers:" . . .

Democrats are getting nervous as they realize their base is tuning them out

. . . "Trump knew in 2015 that the media outlets were not only the enemy, but also dinosaurs, partisan, ill informed, and mindless.  (Or as Ben Rhodes said, "The average reporter we talk to is 27 years old, and their only reporting experience consists of being around political campaigns...  They literally know nothing.")  Americans have figured this out, too, and the smart ones are listening to Trump as he tweets right past the media."

Latest Democratic debate the dullest political event in years  . . . "Combat troops aren’t the answer, they said. They were prepared to be commander in chief because they care about health care for veterans or education for veterans, which is lovely but really doesn’t address the question of how they would confront threats to the United States of the sort posed by the Tehran regime." . . . Democrat debate: Who were the winners and losers?

Hollywood Least Trusted Thing In America, While Some of the Most Trusted Things Aren’t Much Better

RedState

. . . "The polling company, Morning Consult, attempted to gauge American’s trust in various things and found some interesting results. For one, finishing last is Hollywood at only 4 percent.
"We have every reason to feel that level of mistrust. Not only has Hollywood proven themselves to be less than moral while holding themselves as more moral than the average American, but they’ve also continuously pushed bad science and stupid nonsense on us with the confidence of a king.
"I mean, Gwyenth Paltrow is selling a candle called “smells like my vagina” and has an accompanying scent that smells exactly as advertised. This was after she told women to put a rock in their vagina for health reasons.
"Just after those is the U.S. Government at 7 percent and the news media at 8 percent.
"No surprise there.
"So what do Americans trust?
"According to the poll, the two things at the top are pretty common sense stuff. People trust their primary doctor at 50 percent while coming in at second is 44 percent. From there, things get weird.
"Amazon and Google come in next at 39 and 28 percent respectively.
"That’s right. Apparently, over a quarter of Americans believe that Google and Amazon are telling them the truth whenever they give them information of any kind. That’s…slightly disturbing, especially given the fact that Google has been caught up in so many information scandals that I’ve lost track." . . .

Joe Biden's streak of being wrong on foreign policy continues, uninterrupted

Political scientist Ian Bremmer, certainly no fan of Trump, was unequivocal in describing what a coup this was for Trump. “Literally, the United States has killed the head of Iran's military in the Cabinet, and the response has been, you know, virtually nothing.”

Washington Examiner  "In Tuesday night's Democratic debate, Joe Biden claimed a vast array of foreign policy accomplishments in an attempt to make the case that his foreign policy experience made him the best prepared candidate to be commander in chief. But all he did was remind viewers that he has an extensive history of getting it wrong.
"Don't just take it from us. In his 2014 memoir, Duty, former Defense Secretary Robert Gates famously shared his view that Joe Biden, then the vice president and previously chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, had been wrong about “nearly every major foreign policy and national security issue over the past four decades.”
"This amusing fact reared its head again last week as President Trump celebrated what may prove to be the greatest foreign policy triumph of his administration.
"Early on Jan. 7, Biden was savaging Trump as “dangerously incompetent” for the strike that had killed Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps terrorist leader Gen. Qassem Soleimani a few days earlier. Biden claimed that Trump was close to starting an “endless war in the Middle East” and that “this outcome of strategic setbacks, heightened threats, chants of ‘death to America’ once more echoing across the Middle East, [and] Iran and its allies vowing revenge — this was avoidable.”
"Of course, literally every part of Biden’s statement was wrong. Iranians loyal to the current regime have been chanting “death to America” for decades and were, in fact, doing so the very day Iran signed the nuclear agreement with Biden and his old boss, President Barack Obama. Much more importantly, as Biden spoke, the Iranians were just hours away from launching a toothless, face-saving retaliatory attack that demonstrated their lack of resolve and their aversion to conflict. For the sake of domestic political theater, the ayatollah and his minions launched 17 missiles that exploded harmlessly at and around a base that had been cleared two hours earlier." . . .

Campaign Staffer Reveals Life Under President Bernie: Riots, Gulags, Reeducation

Barbie and Ken's life under socialism

Issues & Insights  "An Iowa field organizer for Sen. Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign believes he knows what the Vermont socialist is thinking and has been willing to share it. The staffer’s taste for violence, and his eagerness to punish those who’d rather not be forced into the commune, are almost exactly as we would have expected.
"Apparently believing that he was speaking to a friendly journalist from the mainstream media over the course of several months, Kyle Jurek, described by Sanders’ Iowa field director as a “top-tier organizer,” went off on a tirade that sounded like Politburo talking points. When asked if “MAGA people could be reeducated,” for instance, Jurek chuckled and said, “we got to try.”
"Jurek was actually talking to a Project Veritas operative, who was secretly recording their conversations.
"Project Veritas’ hidden camera caught Jurek saying that “after the fall of the Nazi party         " 'Germany had to spend billions of dollars reeducating their f**king people to not be Nazis.”
“ 'We’re probably going to have to do the same thing here.”
"The reeducation won’t be held in concentration camps, though. It will be done through our universities.
“ 'That’s kind of what all Bernie’s whole f**king like, ‘hey, free education for everybody’ because we’re going to have to teach you not to be a f**king Nazi.”
"And those Soviet labor camps? They weren’t so bad.
“ 'There’s a reason Josef Stalin had gulags,” Jurek said. “Gulags were actually meant for, like, reeducation,” and were quite efficient at stripping the wealthy’s “privilege,” because the rich were going to learn what it meant to be working class. Exercising free speech might also be rewarded by a trip to the gulag in Jurek’s world. Anyone who says things the ruling class doesn’t like should expect a “violent reaction,” and deserves to be beaten.
"And then there’s the showcase of the inherent violence of the political left when it doesn’t get its way." . . .

James O'Keefe is back, with a truly chilling look at a Bernie-supporter

" 'Bernie's a bad judge of character..."  There's a ready-to-win bumper sticker for you."

Andrea Widburg  "Investigative journalist James O'Keefe sent his undercover agents to check out what's going on with the Bernie Sanders campaign.  On Tuesday, he dropped the first of what promises to be a series of videos focusing on the people working for Bernie."
Jurek
"The video, which is embedded below, is pretty shocking.  Kyle Jurek, a field organizer for Bernie in Iowa, is a foul-mouthed man with a limited vocabulary.  He revels in thoughts of riots, explosions, burnings, beatings, and gulags.
"Jurek's imagination doesn't limit itself to what will happen in America if Bernie wins.  Instead, he predicts the ultimate dystopia should Trump win re-election.  For him, the 1968 Chicago Riots at the Democratic National Convention will serve as a small introduction to what Bernie-supporters will unleash should their man lose.
"It's not just conservatives who earn Jurek's wrath.  In true Leftist fashion, he imagines a world in which Bernie's political rivals on the same side of the Leftist aisle get their comeuppance.  He's no fan of the Clintons, for example, and makes the usual joke about the Clintons and suicides.  He then adds, "We don't gotta kill the Clintons.  We'll make them kill themselves. ... Reign of Terror."  How very Soviet." . . .
. . . Jurek is just one man, and he seems to be a very disturbed, violent, angry man.  Unless the Bernie campaign has affirmatively known about his views and done nothing, it's not Bernie's fault that a scary person has attached himself to Bernie's candidacy.  In a two-party system, the crazy people have to go somewhere.  . . .
. . . Again, that's not saying Bernie has espoused violence, for he has not.  It's just an observation about the history of the ideology Bernie holds so dear.  . . .
