The Sweater (UPDATED: Sun 3/26)

UPDATE: Goalie declines to wear jersey celebrating LGBTQ community on Pride Night, takes heat - American Thinker

Surely he should be summarily shamed into repenting-- and apologizing-- for not being coerced into proclaiming the LGBTQ community to be more equal than any other. After all, almost every other person and entity in the Western world has been systemically cowed into doing just that. Why should he be any different? It’s maddening, really, his insubordination.  . . .

. . ." So, should players be expected-- or even forced-- to wear a heterosexual-themed jersey if and when their team hosts a Heterosexual Pride Night? Should they be expected to don a jersey celebrating Catholic Pride? Capricorn Pride? Vegan Pride? Minor-attracted persons Pride? Conservative Republican Pride? How about “Polyamorous Pride?” “Jewish Pride?” “Canuck Pride?”

"Or perhaps a jersey sporting the message, “White Lives Matter?' ”

"The defenseman, who said he is Russian Orthodox, declined to go into further detail"

Issues & Insights (issuesinsights.com)  "A couple of National Hockey League players have refused to be bullied into wearing pride jerseys during pregame warmups and much of the response has been madness – and worse. It’s another sign that Western culture is in a steep decline.

"In 1980’s “The Sweater,” an animated short that gets its title from the traditional term for a hockey jersey in Canada, a boy in Quebec accidentally receives a Toronto Maple Leafs jersey rather than the Montreal Canadiens No. 9 Maurice Richard jersey that his mother had ordered, and the jersey all his friends wear. As a Quebecois, he is humiliated by the Toronto jersey and benched by his coach. The peer pressure he feels to fit in is enormous.

"Now in the 2020s, the pressure from radical activists and the corporate cowards who take a knee to them at every opportunity is on players to wear jerseys during warmups that celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community.

"But even in 2023, when so many among us are either part of the social bullying culture or so fearful of it that we’ve surrendered to it, there are still men of strength and principle. On Jan. 17, Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Ivan Provorov declined to wear a pride jersey in warmups, citing his Christian (Russian Orthodox) beliefs. So he sat in the locker room, banished, while his teammates took their pre-game skate.

“ 'I respect everybody, and I respect everybody’s choices,” Provorov said after the game. “My choice is to stay true to myself and my religion.”

He mistreated no one yet he was viciously maligned by those who self-identify as inclusive, tolerant, and righteously fair.

"However, within days, No. 9 Provorov game replica sweaters were selling out on the NHL Shop and at Fanatics, indicating that despite the hatred that was heaped on him – shameful hockey media hack E.J. Hradek suggested that Provorov return to Europe and “maybe get involved” in Russia’s war in Ukraine, while sports writer Cyd Zeigler huffed that “Proporov chose to embrace prejudice” – not just a few appreciated his position.

"Provorov even had support from Brad Polumbo, a libertarian-conservative journalist and the co-founder of BASED Politics – who also happens to be gay.". . .

Why Alvin Bragg’s case against Trump is falling apart

The DA supposedly had his star witness, former Trump lawyer and proven liar Michael Cohen, ready to counter Costello’s claims — but it seems Costello surprised him with testimony Cohen couldn’t address. NY Post

Opinion by Jonathan Turley   . . .Alvin Bragg is looking to indict Donald Trump for paying off Stormy Daniels. Steven Hirsch"
"While an indictment was expected this week, the grand jury looking into former President Donald Trump will go another week amid reports of opposition in the grand jury over what is viewed as a “weak” case.
"The problem is that Bragg has long been searching for a crime in the criminal code to fulfill his pitch during his campaign that he was the man for voters who wanted to bag Trump.
"The falsification of business records in reference to the $130,000 payment to porn star Stormy Daniels might have been a possibility, but it lacked two things.". . .

"First, it expired as a chargeable misdemeanor after two years — and that was roughly five years ago.

"Second, it was a mere misdemeanor that could be brushed off by Trump even if they succeeded.

"Prosecutors then created a Rube Goldberg approach and suggested that the misdemeanor was committed to conceal a federal election law violation — a crime that the Justice Department declined to charge.

"That theory has been widely ridiculed, even by many on the left. The bootstrapping of a federal crime under this statute appears unprecedented and likely unsustainable.". . .

LGBTQ+ rights are core to America’s foreign policy -

LGBTQ+ rights are core to America’s foreign policy - American Thinker  "Biden believes he is the embodiment of moral leadership, but when it comes to his positions on LGBTQ+, a good portion of the world sees America as an immoral hegemon, using cultural colonialism to threaten nations that don’t subscribe to what they see as extreme irreligious views. That’s why, when White House spokesperson John Kirby said LGBTQ+ rights are core to America’s foreign policy, he inadvertently shed light on why China is the new global powerbroker.

"When China makes inroads into countries that are not its own, its policy has been to avoid interfering in that country’s social policy questions. It willingly goes into countries that, per American standards, engage in human rights abuses.

"The Biden administration, however, believes that its cultural standards should be the world’s standards, something that is glaringly obvious when it comes to LGBTQ+ rights. Under the laws of most countries in Africa and the Middle East, and some in Southeast Asia, people who identify as LGBTQ+, and who act on that identification, are engaging in criminal activity.

"In 2022, Russia passed a law dubbed, “Answer to Blinken,” that basically criminalizes mentioning in any public space anything related to LGBTQ+. At the time, Putin accused the West’s position on LGBTQ+ of “moving towards open Satanism.' ”

Recent Lowlights in the Woke Capture of Our Once-Venerable Institutions

  The American Spectator

"Is the Left for free speech and an open exchange of ideas, or is it not?"

"Lamenting the astonishing success of the activist Left’s century-long Gramscian march through America’s major institutions is, at this juncture, old hat. Still, there have been a few recent powerful examples, coming in quick succession, illustrating the extent to which leading liberal institutions of civil society have been captured by far-left activist wokesters who take opportunistic advantage of their groups’ venerable reputations in an attempt to repurpose them for dubious ends.

"Take, for example, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, once one of the nation’s leading lights of the civil rights movement, which in recent decades has increasingly degenerated into a cesspool of grievance politics, intersectionality, race-tinged hucksterism, and crass Democratic Party politicking. This week, the Florida chapter of the NAACP asked its national board to issue a travel advisory against visiting the Sunshine State due to Gov. Ron DeSantis’ (R-FL) recent moves to, among other things, extirpate “diversity, equity and inclusion” racialist indoctrination from public universities and convince the College Board to drop asinine leftist indulgences such as “queer studies” from its model AP African American Studies curriculum. As DeSantis aptly summed it up at a press conference, when asked about the NAACP tiff: “What a joke!”

"Consider also the American Civil Liberties Union’s steady descent, in recent years, away from the free speech absolutism that was long a hallmark of the organization and which led it, back in 1978, to legally argue on behalf of neo-Nazi provocateurs who wanted to march in the heavily Jewish suburb of Skokie, Illinois. Not so much nowadays, as a 2021 New York Times headline put it: “Once a Bastion of Free Speech, the ACLU Faces an Identity Crisis: An organization that has defended the First Amendment rights of Nazis and the Ku Klux Klan is split by an internal debate over whether supporting progressive causes is more important.”

"The ACLU’s “internal debate” over whether to err on the side of free speech or progressivism was on full display recently at Stanford Law School. The school’s associate dean for DEI, Tirien Steinbach, who served as a high-ranking local ACLU official prior to her diversitycrat sinecure, was caught on video asking the ludicrous (and now viral and frequently “meme”-d) question of whether the “juice” of the heavily protested Judge Kyle Duncan’s right to speak freely was “worth the squeeze” of the “harm” his mere presence allegedly caused congregated students’ snowflake sensibilities. I also have some personal experience in the modern ACLU’s resistance to open debate: A few years back, I tried to organize a written debate on the hot-button topic of biological male (“transgender women”) athletes competing in women’s sports, and was rebuffed by the ACLU — an organization that has a whole section on its website dedicated to “transgender rights.' ”. . .

. . ."But someone who had a big part to do with it was the moron and toxic blight at Stanford whom they call the Assistant Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Her name is Tirien Steinbach; I do not know whether she is named for the fictional dwarf by that name. At least a Lannister always pays his debts. These DEI deans are malignancies on the body academic, absolute poison. They get paid boatloads of money collected from overblown tuition, which saddles students and their parents with debt for life, to provide an ostensibly valuable service that my law degree, rabbinical degree, advanced history degree, and other educational attainments still leave me unable to fathom. Biden’s Approval Rating Sinks Towards Lowest Point Of His Presidency: POLL ; Read more to know why

Biden Cuts Illegal Border Crossings By Redefining ‘Illegal’ – Issues & Insights (issuesinsights.com) The Biden administration’s bulletin board, also known as the Washington Post, featured an article last week headlined: “Biden takes heat for border measures, but illegal crossings are down.”

Various other news outlets echoed this theme, using terms such as “plunged” and “plummeted,” to describe what is, in fact, a record-high number of illegal crossings in both January and February.

"How did the administration pull off this “plunge”?

"Basically, by narrowing the focus and by redefining what counts as an illegal border crossing.". . .

Biden Administration Unveils New Restrictions On Air Conditioners Despite Backlash Over Gas Stove Restrictions

 The Daily Wire

. . ." The Energy Department then unveiled forthcoming efficiency standards which would impact approximately “half of the total gas cooking top market.” Proposed regulations would introduce a new “maximum integrated annual energy consumption” standard for gas stoves, marking a change from previous regulations that prohibited constant burning pilot lights in gas stoves, but placed no limits on energy consumption. Officials noted that “products achieving these standard levels are already commercially available for all product classes covered by this proposal” and cited “important and robust” climate benefits in documents justifying the new rules.

"Some 38% of households in the United States use gas stoves for cooking, with the figure approaching 70% for states such as California and New Jersey, according to data from the Energy Information Administration. Those who use gas stoves often cite the easier temperature control offered by the appliances relative to electric alternatives.

Here's Why Ray Epps Is Now Targeting Tucker Carlson (Updated 3/25+) Ray Epps is now targeting Tucker Carlson

The video I have seen shows violence where Mr. Epps happens to be and calm inside where he is not. TD

Julio Rosas  "Ray Epps' lawyer has sent a letter to Fox News demanding a retraction over host Tucker Carlson airing more footage taken during the January 6 riot and exposing Epps lying to the House Committee on when he left during the unfolding incident.

"The New York Times reports the letter sent by Michael Teter also demands Carlson publicly retract his "false and defamatory statements" that Epps had worked as an undercover provocateur for the federal government to whip up the crowd that stormed into the Capitol building.

" 'The fanciful notions that Mr. Carlson advances on his show regarding Mr. Epps’s involvement in the Jan. 6 insurrection are demonstrably (and already proven to be) false," Teter wrote. "And yet Mr. Carlson persists with his assault on the truth."

" 'Oddly, Mr. Carlson now also espouses the view that those rioters were akin to peaceful tourists," Teter continued. "This leads to the obvious question: Is Mr. Carlson now accusing Mr. Epps of provoking peaceful protests?"

"Not only was Epps caught on camera telling people to go to the Capitol building on January 5 and 6, along with being among the first to breach the outside perimeter of the complex, but footage Carlson aired proved Epps lied when he testified he left the grounds of the Capitol earlier than he actually did.". . .

The failure of the FBI to arrest the most conspicuous ringleader of the Capitol breach has naturally heightened suspicions that Epps — and likely others — were either federal agents or assets.

The “journalists” at the New York Times did not share those suspicions. In July 2022, … Times reporter Alan Feuer lamented the fate of this seeming MAGA extremist. “Epps has suffered enormously in the past 10 months,” wrote Feuer, “as right-wing media figures and Republican politicians have baselessly described him as a covert government agent who helped to instigate the attack on the Capitol last year.”

“Baselessly?” The fact that the Times would shred its remaining credibility to defend this man suggests just how much Epps matters. …

"Why it matters so much:

The media and the Democrats feel compelled to defend Ray Epps. To acknowledge that Epps was a government asset is to acknowledge that he and others like him infiltrated the January 6 protest and spurred it to violence.

UPDATE: 3:25: Ray Epps is now targeting Tucker Carlson - American Thinker

"During his expose regarding the occurrences on January 6, 2021, Tucker Carlson covered the curious circumstances surrounding Rap Epps.

"Epps was seen on camera inciting Trump supporters to go into the Capitol the night before the Jan. 6 protests.". . .

"Carlson reported Epps sent a text to his nephew claiming he ‘orchestrated it’.

"This is most certainly a suspicious claim to make at that juncture when temperatures were running very high.

"Carlson also revealed that, when Epps was interviewed by the January 6 House Select Committee, he claimed that he was heading back to his hotel in D.C. when he sent the text.

"Carlson then showed footage of Epps at the Capitol for at least half an hour after his text.". . .

Why Bragg's case against Trump is falling apart

Note to the Democrats: Doesn't this DA have the same name as a Confederate general? Just asking.

JUST IN: Alvin Bragg Is 'Struggling' To Get Grand Jury To Charge Trump, Has 'Weak Case' (trendingpoliticsnews.com) . . ."One source called Bragg’s case “weak” and said it is causing a rift within the DA’s office. “They are having trouble convincing the jury to swallow the case. It’s a weak case and has caused divisions in the DA’s office.”

"This revelation comes after the grand jury ended up not meeting on Wednesday to consider the charges against the former president. Rumors have swirled their failure to meet suggests prosecutors are struggling to build a strong case against Trump.". . .

Will Alvin Bragg be a team player or is he in it for himself? - American Thinker   "Alvin Bragg openly admitted during his election campaign that he would make it a priority, if elected, to prosecute Donald Trump, albeit without bothering to select a law that’s been broken.  Bragg is only the next batter up to try and make party politics a crime.  He steps to the plate way down in the order following such heavy hitters as the FBI, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Adam Schiff, Leticia James, and Merrick Garland.

"If he indeed does follow through and charge the former president with a crime that he knows full well will never result in a conviction, he will do it against the express orders of the Democrat party hierarchy.  The power brokers on the left, from Barack Obama all the way down to The Squad, understand that Trump the Martyr is a far more serious and dangerous a candidate than The Donald of spring 2023, who lagged in the polls behind Florida governor Ron DeSantis. ". . .

Arrest That Man (Donald Trump). Crime to Follow. (dailysignal.com)

George Washington law professor Jonathan Turley, a Democrat, called Bragg’s case against Trump “legally pathetic” and accused the George Soros-funded DA of “struggling to twist state laws to effectively prosecute a federal case long ago rejected by the Justice Department against Trump.”

"An Unprecedent Inquiry": Manhattan DA Fires Off Angry Letter Blaming Trump For Arrest Rumors | ZeroHedge   "Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg - who lied about growing up poor, has fired off an angry letter to House Republicans, calling their investigation into his case against former President Trump over hush payments to Stormy Daniels "an unprecedent [sic] inquiry into a pending local prosecution," adding "The letter only came after Donald Trump created a false expectation that he would be arrested the next day and his lawyers reportedly urged you to intervene.' "

Why Bragg's case against Trump is falling apart (nypost.com)  "It appears that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg will go another week in the legal effort to locate the nation of Kailasa on a map.

"Recently, Mayor Ras Baraka and the city of Newark held a formal ceremony signing a partnership with the nation of Kailasa that pledged mutual cultural, social and political development.

"After all of the fanfare, pomp and circumstance subsided, a small problem emerged.

"Kailasa does not exist.". . .

HART: Soros-Funded Manhattan District Attorney Predictably Weaponizes His Office Against Trump | The Daily Caller

They go from the Russian hoax/Mueller investigation to a series of impeachments of Trump for trivial matters, to the Jan. 6 show “hearings” and throwing people in jail with no charges for months over the “insurrection.” Tucker Carlson aired some of the January 6th security tapes he got, and no serious person would say the people on the tapes should go to jail for four years. I have seen more violence at Walmart entrances on Black Friday.

Double Standard on Decorum in White House Press Corps

 Daily Signal

Jean-Pierre is really in no place to lecture that the American people deserve a better press corps when their goal is for the president to avoid it as much as possible.

The White House press corps is a microcosm of the national media. It is overwhelmingly liberal, stuffed with Joe Biden voters. So, it was downright weird when former press secretary Jen Psaki told the Los Angeles Times she sometimes thought, “I am an orderly in an insane asylum.”

"The briefing room is usually a tank of hungry sharks for a Republican’s press secretary, and a classroom full of teacher’s pets for a Democrat’s press secretary. The news cycle has to be pretty negative for reporters to sound hostile to President Joe Biden’s press aides.

"On March 20, black reporter Simon Ateba from an obscure website called Today News Africa began screaming at the very top of the briefing that current press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was not calling on him so he could ask his questions. Other reporters joined the fight, insisting Ateba press his complaints off camera.

"There should be decorum at press briefings. The White House is not a place for egotistical shouting by reporters, no matter the outlet. But some people have thought they could secure fame and fortune by doing it. Ateba scored friendly interviews with Fox and Newsmax.

"Before him, CNN’s Jim Acosta routinely yelled at then-President Donald Trump and was celebrated as heroic and was gushed over by Stephen Colbert. Acosta constantly suggested Trump would get journalists brutalized or killed, and wrote a self-congratulatory memoir titled “The Enemy of the People: A Dangerous Time to Tell the Truth in America.”

"In 2017, April Ryan squabbled with Trump press secretary Sean Spicer, and then she joined CNN as a political analyst. That year, she also was named “Journalist of the Year” by the National Association of Black Journalists.

"This will never happen to Ateba.". . .

EXCLUSIVE: DOJ Sued Over Protests at Supreme Court Justices' Home

 Daily Signal

"The Heritage Foundation’s Oversight Project is suing the Justice Department for communications related to the department’s failure to apply federal law against far-left protests at the Supreme Court Justices’ homes.

"The suit follows Attorney General Merrick Garland’s admission that it is a federal crime (under 18 U.S.C. § 1507) to protest outside a judge’s home with the intent of influencing that judge. Garland has not enforced that law, though both Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin and former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan requested that he do so, and in March, Garland claimed that the U.S. Marshals “on scene” make the decision “whether to make an arrest.”. . .

. . ."These groups of far-left activists, which include individuals such as Sadie KuhnsMelissa BarlowNikki Enfield, and Nadine Seiler, have been protesting at the homes of the Supreme Court justices since the May leak of the draft opinion indicating that Roe v. Wade would soon be overturned.

"That unprecedented leak, which sparked protests throughout the country, attacks on scores of pro-life centers and faith-based institutions nationwide, and even an assassination attempt against Justice Brett Kavanaugh, made the justices “targets for assassination,” according to Justice Samuel Alito.

“It was a shock because nothing like that had happened in the past,” Alito said of the leak in October during remarks at The Heritage Foundation. “So it certainly changed the atmosphere at the court for the remainder of last term.”. .  .
