Republican voters now know that the GOP candidate running for the Senate is utterly worthless on the border issue.
McConnell is a cat with nine-times-nine lives. But the abject mess he made with this border bill, which has Democrats like Schatz pointing and guffawing like drunken hillbillies at a cockfight, should be enough to finish him.
" 'Mitch McConnell has to be finished as the caucus leader for the Republicans in the Senate. Now. He has to resign, and if he won’t, then that caucus needs to get together and force him out.
"Now. Not next week, not next month, not after this election cycle. Now.
"McConnell gave a speech Monday demanding a “yes” vote on that atrocious border bill that Melissa Mackenzie and I both wrote about here at The American Spectator on Tuesday and discuss in the next episode of The Spectacle podcast. By now you already know how utterly awful a bill it was. And after McConnell blathered on for a while about what a good bill it was, the public outrage over the bill was so white-hot that three hours later McConnell relented:
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell recommended that Republicans vote against the $118 billion border security bill, at least for now. Even Oklahoma Senator Jim Lankford, one of the bill’s authors, indicated that it was too soon to bring the bill to a vote. The sudden about-face on the part of the GOP caucus left Democrat Brian Shatz saying on X, “Just gobsmacked. I’ve never seen anything like it. They literally demanded specific policy, got it, and then killed it.”
The cloture vote scheduled for Wednesday is certain to fail. Without the momentum of its much-anticipated release and the tactical advantage of not giving anyone time to read it, it seems that if the bill does pass, it is unlikely to resemble the atrocity unveiled Sunday night.
"The nonbinding resolution could play a part in the legal push to knock Trump off the primary ballot in some states because of the Constitution's 14th Amendment, which, in part, outlaws those participating in insurrection from holding public office.
"Gaetz, an ardent supporter of Trump, said the ex-president was "thrilled" that 63 Republican lawmakers have signed on to the measure.
" 'President Trump was heartened by his many supporters for backing our legislative endeavor," Gaetz said during a question-and-answer session at the U.S. Capitol. "I think the House of Representatives has a special and unique voice here." . . .
. . ."There is a real question of whether this attempt to protect American democracy — by removing a would-be authoritarian from the ballot — is itself a threat to American democracy. Will proponents and supporters of the 14th Amendment option effectively destroy the village in order to save it?" . . .
"Authoritarian"? Consider Obama who shut the nation down during the Government shutdown; giving orders to the NPS to "make it hurt". He closed off open-air monuments around the nation and had the vindictiveness to block off places distant from the monuments where people could see them from a distance, such as Mount Rushmore."
. . ."The Obama administration tried to make political hay out of the government shutdown by closing the National Mall and denying access to monuments, but the decision backfired when the veterans defied the signs and fences and entered the WWII Memorial. The vets were taking part in the Mississippi Gulf Coast Honor Flight, established in 2011 to help fly the state’s WWII veterans to Washington, D.C. and to provide tours to monuments dedicated in their honor.
"Obama told the American people that it was necessary to shut down the Mall and blamed Republicans for creating the hardships. However, the emails reveal that the Department of the Interior and National Park Service did not have to shut down the monuments but did so to make a point. "
"On September 30, Tom Buttry, a legislative correspondent in Senator Tom Harkin’s (D-Iowa) office, stated that it would actually be easier and less costly to keep the mall open than to shut it down:" . . .
. . ."Although the law is never enforced, Americans who are not leftists voluntarily abide by it. They don’t salute kings or queens; they salute America’s symbol and the song that celebrates it.
"But then there’s that hymn. As I said, it’s a very nice hymn celebrating God and liberty, and the melody is lovely. It is an essentially American song.
"The problem is how the left is using it. By focusing on its title as “the Black National Anthem,” leftists are essentially saying that Black Americans are a nation within a nation. There is, of course, no such thing. Even playing it at the Super Bowl right before the National Anthem itself isn’t going to make it an actual national anthem. Instead, it just takes a beautiful piece of music and makes it divisive.
"To give you a sense of that divisiveness, you only need to look at the tweet from Rep. Steve Cohen, who was elected out of Memphis, Tennessee. Memphis, like the NFL itself, has a population that’s around 60% black. That population may explain why Cohen saw fit to pander at an almost unimaginable level:" . . .
Tlaib's fervent defense of Hamas and their grievances failed to beg them to release hostages. I have not heard a word of protest asking her people not to commit these atrocities, not a word of regret over the people she represents. TD
"Rashida Tlaib is a U.S. Representative from Michigan, which may seem surprising; but the state of Michigan has the only Muslim-majority city in the country, and she was elected by a strong Muslim vote. We aren't talking about Muslims, we are talking about Islam. Don't continue in the ignorance enjoyed by most Americans. Educate yourselves about Islam. The fact that Muslims can put someone in the U.S. Congress that does not represent American values should sound alarm bells everywhere. The fact that she displays the Palestinian flag and not the flag of the United States in a building that is part of a complex meant to house representatives that serve U.S. interests is tantamount to her planting that flag in U.S. soil and claiming it for Palestine (which, as you should know by now, is not a country, not a sovereign state, but a creation of Yassir Arafat, a brutal terrorist, who spent his life trying to spin a lie into the truth.) Wake up, America. Wake up."
"Cohen had gone to the Nova music festival in the desert of southern Israel to be with his girlfriend of two months, Maya. She tried to flee with another friend and was killed, he said. Cohen saw another young woman shot in the head as he ran to hide in a bush – the spot where he witnessed the rape, he told CNN.
I consider standing up against the people who behead and burn infants alive, machine gun unarmed families hiding in "safe rooms", rape women so violently that pelvises are broken, and carry hundreds off into captivity underground is the very essence of "speaking truth to power". The Tunnel Dweller. (TD has been my nom de guerre for years but suddenly it seems an unfortunate choice.)
• The Wall Street Journal cited statistics showing that forty percent of Americans did not show up for work or called in sick on Monday following the Super Bowl game. Coincidentally it was reported that Americans consumed fifty million cases of beer Sunday. And that includes a 12-pack of Bud Light.
• The Super Bowl offered two top teams the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers Sunday at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The entire country partied all day in what has become a national tradition. I hope you all had a Happy Super Bowl Sunday or as we Dallas Cowboys fans call it, Passover.
• Daily Variety forecast that Super Bowl TV viewership could surpass the previously most-watched event on TV, the 1969 moon landing. It was an odd event for a politician to pass up. President Biden refused to agree to a three-minute interview before the game, but he did offer to throw out the first pitch.
• The Super Bowl drew huge TV viewership Sunday generated by two great teams and the arrival of Taylor Swift to the stadium in Las Vegas. The NFL went all out to accommodate its new fans. Since more women were watching the Super Bowl than ever before, the pigskin was injected with Botox.
• Sony paid $1.2 billion for rights to Michael Jackson's song catalogue. Thanks to licensing fees and revenue from their hologram concerts, Michael Jackson and Elvis are worth more money dead than alive. In an unrelated story, Paul McCartney's kids plan to take him skydiving on his 82nd birthday.
• Donald Trump appealed to the Supreme Court Monday, arguing that the president can't be held liable for actions in office. He walked into the chamber, shook hands with the air, talked gibberish, failed to remember where the exit door is, then tripped on the way out. Not a Special Counsel can touch him now.
• The White House went into full damage control after the Special Counsel's report saying Biden has too diminished a mental capacity to stand trial. I disagree. In more proof that President Biden knows exactly what he's doing , he just asked Ukraine for $14 billion to help fund his war against Texas.
Newspapers are a critical part of the American news landscape, but they have been hit hard as more and more Americans consume news digitally. The industry’s financial fortunes and subscriber base have been in decline since the mid-2000s, and their website audience traffic has begun to decline as well. Explore the patterns and longitudinal data of U.S. newspapers below.
"Has anyone seen a newspaper correction about the crazy coverage of covid that proved to be wrong, wrong, wrong? Has anyone in the media apologized for dismissing ivermectin as horse medicine? Has anyone admitted the vaccine wasn’t a vaccine? A few news outlets and media personalities have finally said, gee, it really came from a bioweapons lab in Wuhan.
"The New York Times and Washington Post still bitterly cling to their Pulitzers for pushing the Russian Hoax. They are the Jussie Smolletts of journalism.
"Another reason for the decline is the loss of objectivity — or as ignorant journalists call it “bothsidesism.” Apparently the word objectivity no longer is used in J-school." . . .

Lakewood shooter identified, had history of mental health issues (chron.com) Officers continued to engage Genesse until she fell to the ground, Hassig said. Her child also fell to the ground after being shot in the head. Genesse was pronounced dead at 2:07 p.m. Authorities stated that the buttstock of the AR-15 she wielded featured a sticker of the word "Palestine." Previous reports incorrectly stated the long gun featured the words "Free Palestine." Hassig stated "antisemitic writings" have been discovered in subsequent investigations into Genesse. The commander said the shooter used male and female aliases in the past, but has identified as female "this entire time." . . .
"The 5-year-old child shot Sunday at Lakewood Church is not expected to survive, a Montgomery County District Attorney's Office spokesperson said Monday, per a Houston Chronicle report.
"The child, who has not been identified, was wounded when gunfire was exchanged with two off-duty police officers working as security for the church. The child came into Lakewood Church with the woman, Houston Police Chief Troy Finner said Sunday.
"The child was transported to Texas Children's Hospital in critical condition.
"KHOU 11 indicated that they discovered the references to Jeffery Escalante during a Texas Department of Public Safety Records search on Moreno.
"The station also found her prior arrest records, including “arrests…[for] failure to stop and give information, assault of a public servant, assault causing bodily injury, forgery, possession of marijuana, theft, evading arrest unlawful carrying weapon.” . . .
"Some antisemitic writings have been recovered, but a motive behind the Sunday afternoon shooting has not been determined, according to police.
" 'We do believe that there was a familial dispute that has taken place between her ex-husband and her ex-husband's family," some of whom are Jewish, police said." . . .
"Because if the bill had passed and given them all political cover for what they’d done on the border, it would have then been pushed into America’s memory hole, that place where modern America drops ideas we can’t deal with.
"And left-wing media–meaning all of corporate legacy media–have one job. To seal that hole shut so that what’s inside passes from memory and is forgotten.
"But first they must memory hole the damn thing, because there is no need for new immigration laws. There are enough federal laws on the books right now. The president right now has all the unilateral authority he needs if he’s capable of being president." . . .

. . ."And the elder Biden, the people said, told those confidants that Garland should not have eventually empowered a special counsel to look into his son, believing that he again was caving to outside pressure." Townhall
"In the backdrop of Special Counsel Robert Hur’s report on Joe Biden’s mishandling of classified information, there was another tidbit that Axios touched upon when we were hours away from learning that the president’s memory has degraded to the point where he doesn’t remember the timing of his son’s death. The Biden White House is in a de facto state of war with the Justice Department. The president’s aides were worried about the Hur report inflicting damage on the White House. It’s done that and then some—Biden also cannot recollect his vice presidency. The rage turns to the man who signed off on Hur’s appointment, providing another chapter in the annals of Joe Biden's hypocrisy.
"Politico wrote at length about Biden’s growing anger at Attorney General Merrick Garland for being an impartial actor and appointing special counsels to investigate him and his family’s activities. On Garland’s part, he noted the appointments were required since the president left sensitive materials in multiple unsecured locations. Garland isn’t expected to run the DOJ if Biden wins a second term. Also, while they don’t say it explicitly, Biden’s main gripe is that the DOJ didn’t move fast enough on the investigations into Donald Trump, preventing the president from weaponizing its findings first. Our own John Hasson and Huy Benson also commented on this White House leak on Twitter. It's a scandal (via Politico):
Black conservative pundit CJ Pearson wrote on X: “Before tonight’s Super Bowl, as a young black man and proud American, let me make myself clear: There is only ONE national anthem. As there is only ONE United States of America.”

'Woke' NFL Makes Super Bowl About Race Yet Again"NFL half time super bowl performer Usher vowed to make his performance focus on promoting Black culture, and yet again dividing Americans by race.
"The NFL also featured the Black national anthem, titled “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” before the game and ahead of the traditional U.S. National Anthem.
"Social media erupted in negative criticism against the “woke” league for involving itself in identity politics and causing further division, rather than uniting Americans." . . .

The Braves, listed as the 26th-best farm system in the sport, are called just "Atlanta." And in case there was any doubt that it was a mistaken omission, the very first sentence also starts with a simple "Atlanta," excluding the team name. Like they said, that's it. He's solved racism.
The AP quotes Thomas Gift of University College London. Gift predicts that America's time as a global leader is at an end no matter who wins the White House in November. He says that we are heading toward a multipolar planet in which the United States is no longer “the indisputable world superpower.”
. . ."Is America's foreign policy situation falling apart? That's the impression that you might take away from this weekend's Associated Press analysis. With the election continuing to look like a rematch between Joe Biden and Donald Trump, the AP concludes that many of our allies are worried that it doesn't really matter who wins. America is absorbed in its own affairs and could become a "less dependable" ally in the near future. And that could increase the risk of new dangers cropping up related to "flashpoints around the world from Ukraine to the Middle East." There may be some merit to a few of the points they are making, but these assumptions clearly ignore the very large and obvious policy differences between the two candidates." . . .
"But aside from the spending and debt, the other problems listed above were driven or at least exacerbated by Joe Biden's horrible policies and leadership. If you get rid of the source of those problems, more resources will be freed up to address other issues once the mess has been (hopefully) cleaned up. Also, the international scene tends to be a lot more calm when America has a leader who is viewed as being strong and willing to act decisively if the situation calls for it. The next phase of events on the world stage may not look exactly as they did during the first Trump term even if he returns. He will have a lot of domestic fires to put out. But they could still rebound a bit and look better than what we're currently seeing. America can still be a reliable ally, but as the flight stewards on the airlines always remind us, we're going to need to put our own oxygen mask on before we try to help the person in the next seat." . . .

Bible teacher Dr. David Jeremiah discussed this back in 2019 with this message,Israel Will Stand Alone.
. . ."This scenario seems unlikely given that Israel maintains a defensive military policy, never preempting any attack unless war is, with all certainty, inevitable. The Jewish people value life, and every man or woman who dies erases their progeny—an entire generation and every generation that would follow. Most Israelis feel that military conflict with Syria, at least for now, can be avoided.
"I do not believe President Trump has a workable plan for Syria, nor do I think he could ever calculate, with certainty, the outcome of his decision. Every human action is made with calculated risk. While I am sure the President weighed these risks, he is not able to predict the future.
"However, I do know the one who knows the future, and with meticulous calculation, is sovereignly controlling the affairs of humankind to bring His plans into present history. He is the one who has and will always have a perfect plan and destiny for Israel. He knows the exact outcome of every human decision because he orders it to fulfill His purpose.[i]
"Of course, I am speaking about the God of Israel, and I believe He holds the heart of every President in His hand. Like a river of water, He turns it wherever He wishes to accomplish His will for the only nation born of His covenant—Israel.". . .
Video: Students kicked out of school for illegal immigrants (americanmilitarynews.com) "Multiple local residents expressed concerns to The New York Post regarding the city’s decision on Tuesday. Additionally, The New York Post reported that one parent confronted the illegal immigrants, shouting, “How does it feel that you kicked all the kids out of school tomorrow? Does it feel good? I hope you feel good. I hope you will sleep very well tonight!' ”. . .
. . .“When there is no meaningful consequence applied to illegal activity, that activity will continue—and others will get the message that they can also engage in it with impunity. That’s exactly what has happened at our borders since Secretary Mayorkas took office. Aliens cross the border illegally, test the system, are released into the interior, and then call home to share their experiences. That’s happened millions of times in the past three years. With the advent of social media and the ability to instantly communicate with family and friends back home, this dynamic has only accelerated. Those phone calls will not stop, the videos on social media will keep being posted, and the accounts will still be told so long as Secretary Mayorkas doubles down on his refusal to enforce the immigration laws passed by Congress. He must be held accountable.” . . .
. . ." First blame Joe Biden who began all this the day he took office as expected by the illegal immigrants." TD
