 Scores of GOP lawmakers support Matt Gaetz resolution saying Donald Trump not insurrectionist    "Feb. 6 (UPI) -- Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz said in a news conference on Tuesday he has introduced a resolution stating that former President Donald Trump did not engage in insurrection on Jan. 6, 2021.

"The nonbinding resolution could play a part in the legal push to knock Trump off the primary ballot in some states because of the Constitution's 14th Amendment, which, in part, outlaws those participating in insurrection from holding public office.

"Gaetz, an ardent supporter of Trump, said the ex-president was "thrilled" that 63 Republican lawmakers have signed on to the measure.

" 'President Trump was heartened by his many supporters for backing our legislative endeavor," Gaetz said during a question-and-answer session at the U.S. Capitol. "I think the House of Representatives has a special and unique voice here." . . .

. . ."There is a real question of whether this attempt to protect American democracy — by removing a would-be authoritarian from the ballot — is itself a threat to American democracy. Will proponents and supporters of the 14th Amendment option effectively destroy the village in order to save it?" . . .

"Authoritarian"? Consider Obama who shut the nation down during the Government shutdown; giving orders to the NPS to "make it hurt". He closed off open-air monuments around the nation and had the vindictiveness to block off places distant from the monuments where people could see them from a distance, such as Mount Rushmore."

The vets were taking part in the Mississippi Gulf Coast Honor Flight, established in 2011 to help fly the state’s WWII veterans to Washington, D.C. and to provide tours to monuments dedicated in their honor.
