"Black Democratic strategists, lawmakers and activists are frustrated that Texas Democrats rejected Jasmine Crockett as their Senate nominee Tuesday night — but they also saw it coming.

"Following Crockett’s single-digit loss, they recounted a laundry list of why she fell to state Rep. James Talarico: Her campaign was unfocused; she had an insufficient campaign infrastructure to challenge Talarico, even though she earned the backing of former Vice President Kamala Harris. They also said her media strategy relied too heavily on social media rather than television ad buys — typically seen as critical in a sprawling state like Texas and its nearly two dozen media markets.

“ 'People who don’t understand politics will be upset because Jasmine was their hero,” said Texas state Rep. Jolanda Jones, a Democrat. “But for people who understand politics, [Crockett] literally had no ground game.”

"She added: “This L is on her.”

"Taken together, Crockett’s campaign shortcomings doomed the upstart Senate bid of the two-term congressmember who entered the contest with broad name recognition and hopes of showcasing her firebrand personality and penchant for viral moments to help Texas Democrats end their nearly 40-year winless streak in Senate races.

"Still, Black strategists and activists warn Crockett’s loss will have ripple effects.

They say the party rejected an established star in favor of an untested, white state lawmaker over style — the two candidates did not substantively disagree on policy — raising concerns that Black voters, especially women, will not turn out when the party needs them the most.

“ 'A lot of Black women who work in the Democratic Party, vote for Democrats, organize for Democrats, have always had a sense of this,” said Houston-based political strategist and social media influencer Tayhlor Coleman. “It is a lot more apparent now: A lot of people in the Democratic Party want our labor, they do not want our leadership.” . . .   More...

Daylight Saving Begins on Sunday—What to Know About Efforts to Lock the Clock

"Any efforts to eliminate daylight saving time in Washington, D.C., will likely have backing from President Donald Trump, who previously suggested he’d support it, saying it was inconvenient and costly."

Daylight saving time will begin on Sunday, causing clocks to skip forward an hour at 2:00 a.m. for most people living in the United States.

The majority of Americans who are expected to lose an hour of sleep on March 8 don’t support the current daylight saving system.

An AP-NORC poll from 2025 showed that just over 10 percent of Americans supported the current system, while nearly half of the others polled opposed it. The rest of the survey-takers remained neutral about the topic.

But there are efforts to lock the clock so Americans can press snooze (for good) on the ongoing “spring forward” and “fall back” rules, which disrupt sleep schedules from coast to coast twice a year.

History

Daylight saving has been a controversial topic for over a decade in the United States.

In the late 1800s, railroads used different time zones. Then, in the 1940s, President Franklin D. Roosevelt turned the entire nation’s clocks an hour ahead to save energy for World War II, and after that, in the 1960s, the Uniform Time Act of 1966 established a uniform Daylight Saving Time across most of America.

Every year, daylight saving time starts on the second Sunday in March for “spring forward” and ends on the first Sunday in November for “fall back.”

"Anyway, I have now lived and worked in sunny Cal since June 30, 1976, as a script writer, novelist, economist, lawyer, law teacher, and expert witness. I love California. I love the weather and the climate and pretty much everything else.

"But I do not like at all the exploding antisemitism in the air. It has been here for a LONG time. But now, with Israel and the USA trying to stop the Iranian hate/murder regime, and the antisemites all over the left side of the state, I am moved to anger and fear.

"The most awful part of it is Gavin Newsom, our governor. He is now speaking out in hate phrases against Israel. Israel is the most urgent, most powerful enemy that the Islamic genocide architects face. Mr. Newsom is urging Americans to stop Israel from defending itself. On the other hand, Jackson’s memorial was the perfect send-off for a man who hitched his wagon to Martin Luther King’s star—a star that won the nation’s soul by pointing to America’s future as a colorblind meritocracy—and then spent decades reducing that message to a Democrat party platform of race-hustling redistribution.

"In 2002, Senator Paul Wellstone, a leftist senator from Minnesota, died in a plane crash. His funeral made national headlines, not because it was a solemn and beautiful service honoring a great man (that is, a memorial like Charlie Kirk’s), but because it turned into a raging Democrat political rally. The funeral was so vile that Wellstone’s staff had to apologize for what happened.

"That was then. Now, of course, it’s de rigueur to turn memorials for well-known Democrats into political rallies, so Jesse Jackson’s memorial was no exception.

"Barack Obama, the man who ran in 2008 on uniting America, used the opportunity to launch a brutal attack on MAGA. Always trailing in someone else’s shadow, Kamala Harris did the same. Joe Biden, meanwhile, used the opportunity to tell everyone in attendance that they were stupid. For once in his life, Biden may have been right, although he abandoned his “smart” credentials when he forgot about Clarence Thomas.

"Looking at Jesse Jackson’s career, despite his allegedly telling his family that he wanted a non-political funeral, the memorial was a fitting capstone to a man who traded in racial ugliness for decades. Jackson was also a forerunner of today’s overt antisemitism on the left.

"Barack Obama (who arrived without Michelle, who couldn’t be bothered to honor a party icon) couldn’t say enough about how wonderful Jackson...er, scratch that. Couldn’t say enough about how vile MAGA is—and please note how the Hawaii-born Obama, who went from one high-end white school to another, intermittently mimics the cadence of a black Alabama preacher. According to the Irish Star, the 54-year-old television journalist was seen meeting colleagues at Studio 1A inside Rockefeller Center in New York City on Thursday, March 5. Visuals showed that Savannah appeared emotional during the visit, sharing hugs and quiet conversations with staff members who have continued hosting the popular morning show in her absence.

The return of the TV presenter was confirmed by NBC on the program’s official Instagram page. The caption read, “Savannah Guthrie stopped by the studio the morning of March 5 to be with and thank her TODAY colleagues. Reform California Submits 1.35 Million Signatures to Place Voter ID Initiative on 2026 Ballot

"In a significant push for election integrity, Reform California Chairman and State Assemblyman Carl DeMaio (R-San Diego) announced on Tuesday that his organization has collected and is submitting over 1.0 million signatures to qualify a Voter ID initiative for the November 2026 ballot. The initiative, which aims to require photo identification for in-person voting, citizenship verification for voter registration, and enhanced safeguards against non-citizen voting, represents a major grassroots effort to address long-standing concerns about California’s election processes.

"DeMaio shared the milestone via a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “1.0M Signatures! Yesterday and today in each of the 58 counties in California, we are turning in signatures to force a vote on the CA Voter ID Initiative! We got it on the ballot, but now we need to PASS IT!” He urged supporters to join the campaign through Reform California’s website. The announcement was accompanied by photos of petition boxes and supporters at various county registrar offices, underscoring the statewide scope of the signature drive.
